[Q] Cannot charge with CWM and drained battery - HTC Rezound

HTC Rezound with CWM/ICS and Scotty's Stock Rooted RUU 3.14.605.5
Phone battery drained and it would not come back. I plugged it in to the wall outlet and nothing. I plugged it into my PC and I heard the familiar "buh dunk" saying the device was recognized by Windows.
I did some searching and found there is a charging issue with ClockWorkMod (CWM) and the phone battery being drained and that I should use AmonRA in the future. Well I couldn't access the phone but I thought "the PC recognizes it, why can't Hasoon's All In One Toolkit see it as well"? So I ran the toolkit and all I did was click on "AmonRa 3.15 (GB/ICS)" and then clicked on the "Flash Recovery" button and VOILA!!, The phone came back to life!!!
I still haven't checked to see what Recovery I have (phone is still charging), but hot damn my phone isn't DEAD!! The phone booted normally and is charging.
Once I get this fully charged, how can I tell if I am on AmonRa or CWM? I guess with the charging issues I want to be on AmonRa. I have my phone setup perfectly for me and I don't want to reload the damn thing, so any help would be appreciative.
Regards and I hope this helps someone in the future!!

In other words, restart your phone and select the reboot into recovery option from the restart menu.
Here's a helpful link to others' experience with CWM and discharged batteries:

Also my two points of experience with this:
There is a charger sold on amazon that can take the resound battery directly that only costs $2. I bought that in a band a few months back. I'll try to find a link later.
I've come to love team win's touch recovery on my rezound. Just an amon ra alternative that doesn't seem to be that popular atm.

I hope I'm doing this right

I think I got the same charger, and I would suggest using a battery charger if you use CWM.

I bought this recently, and it seems like a good deal. Both of the other batteries hold their charge well, but I don't know how they will hold up in the long run.

[Q] Have I killed my Flyer?

I installed an incorrect Rom over and Incorrect Bootloader and it resulted in the Flyer freezing and not being able to do anything. I let the battery drain down completely and when I went to charge it up again all it does is the red light flashes on and off which I guess means it's not charging.
I can get into the bootloader by holding power and the bottom volume button but it says there is not enough battery power to do anything. Is there anything I can do?
I tried putting the PG41IMG.ZIP file onto the SD card and booting but that doesn't seem to have achieved anything either? Is there anything I can do I'm at my wits end with this now.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Wait for help from Globaltron on this forum. He's seen it all before. He can get you on IRC and walk you through unbrick procedures.
In the main time search through his treads on reverting to stock.
Leave your device on the HTC wall wart charger. When the boot image and recovery are messed up, charging is affected and will be very slow or possibly not work at all.

Install teamviewer and send me a PM with the details. I'll connect, check current status and guide you from there.
Thanks Globatron, However I have finally managed to fix this problem.
I left the Flyer plugged into the Wall even though it was flashing to show it wasn't charging for about 24 hours, the light still continued to flash however when I booted into Fastboot and tried to flash a honeycomb RUU.exe it let me do it this time without the 'Not enough battery power' message that I had been getting.
Lesson learned, I shall not fiddle anymore.

That's great news. Don't worry about fiddling with it, just be sure you have it fully charged and that you know the full procedure for what you need to do.
Same situation
I keep getting the low battery error and am stuck in the same state you were. I let the damn thing charge for two days and the LED was green. The battery is as charged as it is gonna get.
I tried on multiple machines, multiple VM's, and same result.
The RAW RUU won't load with fastboot.
Question, what state did you have the view in when you ran the RUU? What I mean is were you at the boot menu in fastboot mode or what?
HTC Flyer won't boot completely, please help!

I have a similar situation to JussieXo. I own an HTC Flyer and recently purchased a 2nd used flyer for a birthday present for my son. The used flyer was running CM9. I thought "no problem", I rooted my flyer I will just use the RUU and reinstall the stock software. I started with a full charge battery. All didn't go well, after several hours and trying many ideas on several forums I can only boot to the white HTC screen. I have now drained the battery to the point that it would not turn back on last night. This morning it would come back on and the red power light has stopped flashing and remains solid (good news!). I have left it powered off and recharging for now. My question is can you help me get past the white HTC screen. I have read this and several other posts. I see you wanted JussieXo to download teamviewer...I have done this, if you could PLEASE help me get this working it will make one little boy and his mother very happy for his birhtday.
It is currenlty rooted using revolutionary with S-off, hboot is 6.11.1111. When I am in the HBOOT menu and I select recovery it will only load to the white HTC screen.
Try following the Globatron instructions to go from HC hboot back to GB hboot. If you had cm9 I think that was on the HC hboot and you need to be back on GB to run the RUU files to return to stock GB.

Thanks schalmers, I will look at this. I am currently leaving it on the charger powered off. The LED has stopped flashing, but it is still amber/red. I am hoping I can get a full charge with it again. I read somewhere that it charges very slowly (if it will at all) in this state. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Downgrading from 1.50 to 1.40...Can't Brick Phone..Help?

I'm trying to brick my device so i can downgrade to 1.40. Everything is fine up until the point where i have to pull the battery out and run off AC power without battery. When i pull out the battery the phone stays on like it is supposed to, but when i press volume + button to start update the phone immediately turns off.
I relocked my device and am running this stock rom. If anyone can offer some advice it would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Are you using the actual HTC charger that came with the phone? I've read here on XDA that the stock HTC charger puts out a little more power than normal chargers. Also, you can't use USB via your PC.

That shouldn't matter since we're dealing with just the bootloader. I'm not sure which guide you're using (if there's even more than one now) but here is the link I followed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547695
Make sure you boot recovery, remove back cover, plug in phone then pull battery when it says.

I know right! Never thought I'd be mad cause i couldn't brick my phone. Next time someone says they're scared about rooting cause they dont wanna break their phone, I'll tell them they couldn't do it if they tried.
I think I'm going to go back to HTC unlock. The only reason I decided to downgrade my phone in the first place was because i wanted to flash Newtoroot's rls3 and was not able to get it running without losing service. At this point I think I can get that rom to work on 1.50 before i can get this SOB to brick, much less get through the rest of this damn process. If not, I'll just go back to rls1, cause i had that version running perfectly (bugs listed in OP excluded).
Good luck to anyone who's trying to do this...may you have better luck than I did lol.
Sincerely,
J

I had this problem where my phone would turn off as well..I was using a stock htc charger that came with the E3d. What I did was hold my charger steady because if I moved it too much the charge would leave. No I didnt have a shortage in my charger but it just read like that in the laptop. Probably because being plugged into the laptop or cpu it doesnt feed off enough voltage. Hope this works for you.

[GUIDE] Debrick your Rezound (Clockworkmod charging issue)

So after my battery ran out today I realized that Clockworkmod does not allow charging while the phone is off... This left me in a tricky situation where I could not charge my phone at all. I had seen others mention using another battery but I did not have one on hand. Here's how I replaced Clockworkmod with Amon-Ra to fix it (this also works for all recovery images that I know):
REQUIREMENTS:
-Computer with ADB
-Rezound with Clockworkmod or other faulty recovery
-Amon-Ra's recovery image (attached)
1) Unplug USB and remove battery
2) Put battery in
3) Plug USB into computer (with ADB installed)
4) Enter "adb devices" until you see your Rezound show up as recovery. During this time, the orange LED may either blink shortly first or be solid for a few seconds and then turn off. Once it turns off, it should be accessible over ADB.
5) Grab your amonra recovery img and use adb to copy to phone.
Example: adb push amon-ra-3.15.img /tmp/amon-ra-3.15.img
6) Flash the image to recovery.
Example: adb shell flash_image recovery /tmp/amon-ra-3.15.img
7) Reboot your phone (adb reboot) and repeat steps 1-3 (but this time using wall outlet)
8) Sit back and let Amon-Ra save your Rezound. Once your orange LED has been solid for over a minute, you should be good

Rom manager. Also he offers touch for pay (which is what I mistakenly purchased thinking it could mount the internal sd. Either way though I agree, it is not safe for the average root user even to have a recovery that doesn't allow charging even through a wall outlet. It should only list Amon-Ra's under alternate recovery.

I'm fairly new to the Rezound. Came from the Nexus side because I wanted a more multimedia-friendly device (better external speaker/camera/same res). I bought mine pre-rooted and flashed to Clean, which was pretty nice - until I ran into this issue. I bought another battery from Verizon and hooked the other one up to an external charger. I figure it won't hurt to have two batteries anyway.
I know a ton of people have bad things to say about CWM but is this really the only issue? It flashes just fine, right? I ran a nandroid on what I have now and tried to install the latest leak, but I got a ton of reboots. Eventually reverted back to Clean. Either way, thanks for the writeup. Would have saved me a ton of stress over the weekend, hahaha.
Nice work djh816. this was the thing i have always feared lol. matter of fact, this is a HUGE weight lifted out of my mind. Thanks so much for this. keep up the good work

The OP of this thread are the instructions... Just do Steps 2-6.
Edit: or use hasoon2000's first AIO toolkit, which has AmonRa as a flash option (also another lingering source of CWM):

Haha I was fine as well with Clockworkmod Touch and had no clue it even had that problem until my battery finally drained all the way. Then I was SOL. But yea as he said, following those instructions simply replaces the recovery image. All your data will still be in tact (aside from your clockworkmod backups if you have them but Amon-Ra can read those too I think)
Yeah, I figured those instructions would work. You should advertise this as a how to swap between them also. There are others using CWM, and just not talking about it.
Thanks.

I have an easier solution, while phone has been dead for 5-10 minutes, hold power button and as soon as screen flashes plug in the device. Works every time. I also have 3 batteries, 1 original, 2nd from my replacement from warranty, 3rd is extended. I don't ever even change batteries though.
Funny that people are still having/talking about this issue.
I remember when the issue first popped up on the Rezound and people were clueless. All kinds of theories as to the cause and solution.
I knew of the cause from a few phones back... CWM has a history of issues with charging while powered off. I learned of it from an initial release of CWM for a different phone would that when trying to charge with it powered off, would turn on the screen.
Easiest way is to run the command
adb reboot download
boom phone restarts...
I have had this modded version of CWM touch by someone else (I will let him say who he is just in case he does not want to take credit).
It is a modded version of CWM 5.8.1.4-Touch that solves the charging when off problem.
I can not support it but can assure you it works since I have been using it since the beginning of April. I do switch between this and AmonRa for testing my ROM but all my backups are with this.
Still need to copy the .hidenandroidprogress file from internal to external clockworkmod folder to solve the freeze problem when backing up or restoring.
Just install it just like any other recovery.
NOTE: If anyone want to take this and start another thread with it that is fine by me. I just don't have time which is why I never posted it before.
I ended up doing it through fastboot, as I'm a bit more familiar with that, but thanks for the notes and link. I'm now on Amon Ra.
Anything I need to know as a CWM user since, oh, the G1?
And do I need to worry about moving that file so backups work, like you did in CWM?
Thanks again.
Thanks man, this this is totally pimp, sent you a donation - get yourself some good beer!

[Q] Need Help! Must get working for tomorrow

Ok I did my first root and install for my rezound. I messed with rooting more back when I had my TB and Eris but nothing more than doing some walk-throughs getting some new roms and such. I got Nils business sense 3.6 working great and what a great ROM! However I ran into a (in my head) major problem. With the knowledge of some people here I'm sure 30 minutes with my phone would get it going, but alas I am a noob, but good at following instructions. I'm good with all things tech until we start talking cmd and coding . Build a comp, fix a computer, OCing that kind of thing.
Anyhow, this morning I woke up to a dead phone forgot to charge, no biggy, I put in a new battery and booted...then got stuck at HTC white screen. So I boot into bootloader and all i get is the IMG updating thing and only an option to reboot. Now I'm in a loop. So I take the PHIMG out of root folder and try to boot into recovery and it goes to the white HTC screen with the small loading bar to a black screen that never changes. Cant get into recovery. Next step, using the Hasoon all in one toolkit (though I know I could use cmd myself, this makes my life easier as it accomplishes the same goal) I try to reflash recovery as recommended by someone here. No change. Alas I know my battery is probably getting low and it does NOT charge while turned off!! Lame...So any help would be greatly appreciated!

You could download and install the latest global RUU. Rename it to PH98IMG.zip and place it on root of SD. Make sure if your S-On to re lock your bootloader. Also stay away from CWM recovery, Amon Ra or TWRP is your best recoveries of choice.

To add using that option would be same as doing a factory reset+wiping /system. Also s-on users beware if attempting dirty flashes the wipe boot option is right above wipe system, WATCH YOUR DIRTY FLASHING!
Like this a lot, thanks. Two issues, one small. Battery life displays 66% at all times.
Also, my ROM had warned me that I had 1% battery life left, so I manually shut down. I plugged in the phone and was greeted by an orange blinking LED. after 1-2 minutes the led went solid. This is the same behavior I had before flashing the recovery. This time when I tried to turn on the phone the led went off and nothing happened. Had to pull the battery to get back to the blinking led, but ended up in the same cycle. After 20 min of being plugged in I couldn't get the phone to start. Luckily I have a battery charger.
v6.19.3 is up..

Had this loaded up and my Rezound battery died, like completely dead and then it sat for a several days dead... Had it on the charger now for couple hours, won't charge the battery at all. Kind of reminds me of the old CWM charging issues.
Just going to let it sit on the charger overnight and see what happens, then will swap batteries and flash back to TWRP and see if that helps.

Get it into fastboot mode with battery out on charger then put battery in and let it sit for a few moments.

Actually, I just let it sit overnight and I had the comforting green light on the top of my Rezzy lit solid this morning. Guess I just had to be patient...

Sorry for the long post.
I've got a similar issue. I was running the evervolve rom from a few months ago and had wiped data from this recovery. I then wiped the external sd card. I'm packing this away since I have the m8. As that was going my kid had a minor emergency and I ended up leaving it for several days. It was on usb but my computer went to sleep and the battery died.
Now I can't boot into recovery and when I plug it to walk or usb I'll get a few short flashes and one long one then nothing. With the battery out on usb I get absolutely nothing. With the battery in I usually get an unknown driver issue in device manager. Same computer I've used for a year with adb. Since this no combination odd battery/charging well be recognized by adb. I assume my problems are related to the dead battery but it's my only one and I don't have an external charger.
Any ideas?

Plug it in to a regular adapter, not a PC, for at least 8 hours without touching it, it should start charging... If it doesn't you may have a bad battery.

Thanks for the reply, I could definitely believe the battery has gone bad. It's been plugged into an OEM wall charger for a day or more 3 times. The battery is almost 2 years old and with the battery life of the Rezound it has gone through quite a few cycles. Is there anything else I can try to ensure that the phone is still functioning before I go buy a new battery? I'm hoping to keep this around only as a BT streaming device/backup phone so it'll be plugged in anytime it's being used.
