Coming from the Galaxy Nexus? Yes.
If you are thinking about the GS3 then I would wait to compare the two.
This is just my opinion though.

Yes I would. If you're not in a hurry then I would wait to compare with the SGIII, but I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Absolutely! I LOVE this phone and I love Sense!
Sent from my EVO LTE using xda premium

Absolutely. My only beef with the Evo is its size (I have relatively small hands), but Nexus is about the same anyway. Actually had to get a small case for the evo to make it thicker though.
Runs great, very good phone call clarity, display is visible even in the sun (when turned up to 100%). At night on darkest setting it's still not too bright, even as a bedside alarm clock.

Yes, this phone has exceeded my expectations.. its super fast, they have finally made the hardware meet the demands of the software, only downside is that the SGIII comes with 2GB of ram, this would have made the evo even better.. but it hasnt slowed down yet.. i love it

Get this phone. Plain and simple. You won't regret one bit

The Phone is Super!!! Once the LTE is up and running and Google fix the Wallet issue the phone is the best!

There's one thing holding me back from getting the EVO 4G LTE and that's MIUI! I was wondering if anyone has tried the MIUI home launcher yet? I may just get it still I just want something a little more fast than the Ol OG EVO.

They are working on miui search development thread
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using xda premium

I had the original EVO, and I was really hesitant to take the step to LTE but I love it. The screen is just beautiful. Had to get used to the size, but that was an easy adjustment.
There are of course still a few hiccups, but they are excusable. Personally, the changes they made make the phone feel more professional and efficient, which was a big reason I disliked Sense before. You can access quick apps from the homescreen without having to mod; the quicklaunch is super, too. I'm not sure what exactly makes this one so much greater than any other phone currently available, but I've never regretted the decision.

You guys are very convincing. How's the development on it?
Any other downsides at all? I mean anything you can think of.

I 2nd that love my phone not to say SGIII isnt going to be bad ass too but i stick with EVO's

Honestly I hated the first EVO traded it back to sprint for a epic that's when the 2 phones first came out. Then I went to the EVO 3D it was fun but then I switched to the epic 4g touch for about 4 months loved that phone so nice. BUT THEN this came out so I got it and since day 1 I absolutely love this phone omg I will never go back to a galaxy not even the 2gb of ram on the s3 phases me LOL
Sent from my EVO using XDA

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm leaning toward the Evo over the SGSIII for a few reasons: SGSIII has a home button which I think throws off the design, the color options are not that great, and the use of touch wiz. Although the use of custom roms can remedy the touch wiz issue, it won't resolve the latter. HTC on the other hand, kept it professional looking, has no on screen physical buttons, and uses Sense. If I do get this device, it's getting rooted and romed right out the box.

The phone looks great, the hardware is amazing, but the signal is utter crap.
I've tried stock and multiple ROMs and no matter what I do, I have either a signal <-100 dbm or a data lock. It's insanely frustrating. I also can't get it to actually go into roaming exclusively, whether I use the Roaming options mod here at XDA or the Roam Control app (both used after rooting.)
If you have solid Sprint service in your area, no question that you should give this phone a shot. If you go anywhere that your signal is less than 3 bars, try it out for a few days, see if you'll actually have a signal.

dood, phone has been discontinued by tmo, it's not got much life in it. I just happens to be one of the 2 soon to be 3 available hspa+ 42mbps devices! once the s drops you can expect more price drops on the Amaze.
The phone may be going EOL but it's probably their best phone and is still comparable to the new One S. Also those ads are completely one sided, note that they are using an iPhone for Sprint which is only a 3G phone. I used to be on Sprint before switching to T-Mobile and their 4G service was decently quick... if you could get it.

My friend up here has an EVO3D and never switches 4G ON. I asked him why and he said "by the time it even connects or finds 4G signal, the web pages could already have been loaded on 3G"
Don't know how accurate that is but Idk why it would take so long to connect.

That would only be the case if you switch it on to check one page then shut it back off again. It does take about 30 seconds or so to connect to 4g, much like it does to connect to WiFi. Personally that sounds like a dumb excuse to not use 4g. We don't have 4g here but if we did, I'd likely leave it on all the time since my phone is near a charger all day anyways.
Shame the amaze is end of the line I actually want to go back to it. The galaxy s 2 with ICS is nice, but for me I really enjoyed messing with the amazes camera and thought sense was really cool.

It is nice even tho its a leak for the at&t skyrocket the awesome devs have got it working pretty perfectly for the T-Mobile s2. I am very interested in it, Asus is one of my favorite companys specially for gaming, i love their ROG series. i have the Asus G74 laptop right now and plan on getting the Asus Tytan.
Note that its never good to get any phone when its just released. i wait a few months for all the problems (if it has any) to be fixed and development to start and prices to drop. while the samsung galaxy ii already been out for quite a while.
according to this site it wont be too much more than the one s: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Asus...mer-Pad-300-Get-Priced-in-Europe-264743.shtml
only $15 more for just the phone. i will wait till the price is around $400 on ebay then ill buy it in a heartbeat
edit: look at their website now. they updated the information about it. http://www.asus.com/Mobile/PadFone/ you can get 102 hours of battery from padfone (the phone), the station (tablet), and the station dock (keyboard). they all use the hardware of the padfone (cpu/gpu/ram/camera), but they all have their own battery. also its all one data package (from the phone). this is going to get huge IMO.
the camera should be better than the amaze as well, has the same aperture, but a better lense made my asus.

What phone did you come from?

Just wondering what phone everybody came to the S3 from? There seems to be a lot of people from the Epic 4G.
If you came from the touch, what made you switch? I find it very similar.
OG Epic. I've never gotten a phone on release day tho, kinda weird.
Motorola Photon. It wasn't a very nice phone and had a lack of Devs and Themers. Learned how to theme because of that phone, so I have to give it some respect.
I just came from a Sanyo Katana eclipse...but that was technically a temp phone. Before I use to have an HTC Evolution Shift. Its a great transition from a small screen!

Thinking about trading in my EVO

Thinking about trading my EVO in for a Samsung Galaxy S3 before my 30 days is up. My past 3 phones were made by HTC. LOVED them all. Only Samsung phone I ever owned was the Instinct. Garbage...I love this phone but can't stand the signal dropping in and out all the time and the proximity sensor only works less than half the time. 1 more gig of ram wouldn't hurt either. Should I do it?

I had a chance to play with the new galaxy. I used to have the first epic, then the epic touch. Honestly, New tw4 is awful to me, makes ics way ugly and bloated. Sense is pretty good, other than multitasking. Personally, I wouldn't get the new gs3 unless there was a way stable cm9 for it.
Yes, I know that with source it is very much possible, but, just like with gs2, there's no real profile and prl update option. I've noticed that over time, network performance degrades big time when compared to other devices.

Well my good friend just came over to show off & compare his New GSIII to my EvoLTE. Well let me know after coming from the E4GT this phone looks & feels almost identical. It is bigger than the EvoLTE but it is lighter & thinner which makes it extremely hard to hold comfortably & safely IMO. The screen doesn't even come close to the Evo. The colors are way over saturated and it has a bluish tint to it. TouchWiz is back & ugly as hell. It does open apps and switch between screens with no noticeable lag which is a plus cause the Evo has been laggy for me at times. Overall Im happy with my decision to get the Evo. Think I'll pass on GSIII and maybe go with the Note 2 if Sprint gets it.

I hear people talking about the S3 like some new god of a phone, but I honestly prefer HTC, with Sense. The hardware and benchmarks are so similar, you really have to look at the devices and see what you personally prefer for the experience of the phone. I prefer the style of the phone to the G S3, and the extras like the dedicated photo key, which I use a lot, and the kickstand, which I actually use a lot as well. Don't forget the SLCD2, too.

I agree the evo is better IMO

Touchjizz and the GS3 look like a redeveloped iFail to me.
I agree that the G3 isn't that great, but for most people who aren't exactly super picky like us, will suck up the fact that touchwiz is god awful ugly and use the phone. Much like the iPhone, Samsung is doing a lovely job with the bandwagon advertising. People think the phone is god, people will buy said phone pretending all flaws do not exist.
I guess everyone's opinion will be different. I'm sure I would still prefer the EVO over the S3 myself, if given a choice...I just find it interesting how the screen on the Galaxy phones are always said to be color inaccurate and not as good as the LCDs on phones. I say this because OLED TVs are supposed to be the next big thing with the most accurate color reproduction of any TV to date, plus a sharper picture and best contrast ratio. And they will be damn expensive when they hit the market. I'm guessing there must be some kind of difference between the phone and TV version of the screens.

Yeah, it seems like everyone has said that when comparing them side by side... It's just strange when OLED is supposed to be the 'superior' technology. Maybe it's just a phone thing... on a side note, though, my next TV will definitely be a Sony and not a Samsung. Had problems with every Samsung we've had, and absolutely zero with every Sony.
Thanks, I feel better for sticking with my EVO LTE.
I'm wondering if people who own the GS3 are also having the same issues with text and calls not going through as well as connectivity issues some EVOLTE users are experiencing. If so, we would be able to narrow down these issues directly to Sprints network instead of blaming the phone.

Spring is preparing the towers for lte it's everywhere every phone is having that issue . I lost connection for a day and i just found out that alot of prepaid phones use Sprint towers my friends had vigin mobile and boost mobile and they had lost connection the entire day too. They fixed it for two hours then lost connection. We all at work thinking the world is ending lol. Sprint is giving me credit on my bill for that issue and anyone who calls in will to, i mean no data or signal or nothing but thankfully lte is up just not turned on because they said to me our town has to wait it's turn.

A few questions about sprint

So some of you might know me... Some may not but, I've been developing roms for Verizon's HTC phones for year's, and I think I might want to try a different carrier for awhile and sprint is at the top of my list... Don't get me wrong I love the user base from the Verizon peeps but it just keeps getting smaller and smaller... The last 2 devices I've had Incredible 2 and Rezound just seemed like they died before they got going by that I mean no support other than me and a couple other devs...
So what I'm asking is what are your thoughts about sprints service... And do you think the LTE should be my next device? I've played around with a lot of the new HTC phones and the LTE seems to be better than the other's, so it will most likely be my next phone, but I want to hear what you all think?

I love my LTE and have had Sprint service for nearly 15 years. No complaints here...Sure, the 3G speed isn't that great, but that should change with Network Vision project. I live in Baltimore so I get pretty decent speeds right now, but there are plenty of others that are not.
Customer Service: never had an issue with them
Dropped Calls/Missed Calls: not nearly as many as with AT&T and some others that my friends use. Seems pretty stable.
Data: 3G isn't great, but, it works and is unlimited.
Bills: Never had an issue with Billing
Hope that helps somewhat.
EDIT: I ran your NEWTS RC3 on the EVO 3D and loved it. Couldn't change ROMS after flashing yours because nothing came close...
You should definitely come over to the EVO 4G LTE forums and hook us up. LOL...
Do it newt. Data speeds are pretty decent in major cities, price is right and this phone is a beast. Two best parts: screen and audio quality. I came from the 3d and am glad I left the drama and subparness of that phone behind. Ran your sense 4.0 port at the end of my time with the 3d and loved it. Lets just hope sprint doesn't forget about this device like the 3d. Oh and there's no drama here like the 3d. Come join the party newt, we need more devs like you.
The phone is a beast, sprint is what it is
Would love to see u on this device

I've been with Sprint for 11yrs, it's been a rocky ride at times but they've improved substantially over the last several. I love my LTE but a friend of mine just got the GS3 and I was playing around with it and it's a really nice phone. That being said, the selfish part in me wants as many quality developers as possible committed to the LTE to try and bring development here to the level it was with the OG EVO. Since you're a developer and the phone will likely stay bone stock just long enough for you to root it, it really comes down to specs and personal preference as to design and build quality. LTE is a little lighter and seems a little thinner, GS3 seems a little more soldly built (even with it being all plastic). There's an issue of the LTE bending just above the kickstand due to the aluminum being so thin and weak in that area. IMO the LTE has a slightly better screen but the GS3 screen is still beautiful. GS3 has far more storage available to it and a removable battery. I've actually been thinking of switching to the GS3 just because all I really want is a fully working, solid, stable AOSP build and I have a feeling the GS3 is going to get there first.

I feel the same, my last 4 were Touch Diamond, OG EVO, 3D, and LTE. Honestly, I'd rather have you and as many other developers here as possible to help make this thing greater than it already is.

^^^^^^^^ this
If your willing to take the sacrifice from insanely fast data to Sprints mediocre data until LTE really starts going, I think you'll see this as a nice upgrade from HTC's previous devices. The build quality is something I didn't expect, because its really that nice. The one thing that I still have yet to get over on this phone, is this beautiful screen.
If you decide to come to the EVO-side I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

The EVO LTE is awesome compared to any other phone out there, period. Only draw back on the phone is not being able to take out the battery. Everything else on the EVO destroys the competition. (Well not destroy, just get the phone you won't be disappointed.) Sprints service is better than they get credit for I think. Though they need to work faster on 4G so we can stop getting charged for something we cannot use and so they can stop BSing that it is for data coverages. 3G speed is what you would expect really. Unlimited everything is a big plus. And their customer service is sub par but I think most carriers are.
From what I read here, your the man. Make it happen chief!
Would be good to have you here newt

Word... I WILL NOT buy a phone from another manufacturer. I feel that HTC's build quality is unmatched and honestly I love Sense with Nova instead of Rosie (i know that isn't a popular opinion).
Sprint has been good to me here in Charleston, Wv. I have the OG Evo, the Evo 3D, the HTC Flyer tablet and now the Evo 4G LTE... wouldn't trade this phone for anything currently on the market.
In this area on 3G I seem to average between 1500 and 1700 mbps and that is plenty for me as I am usually on Wifi... I honestly don't care much if 4G even comes to this area and of the handful of dropped calls I have ever had, I was talking to someone on AT&T so I tend to believe that it was on their end.
Sprint service is decent i have had worse t-mobile "cough" phones seen alot nicer on sprint if your an htc fan..excited to see you considering the lte
