I have both a Galaxy Nexus and a Galaxy Tab 10.1, both of which have ICS. For a while now my main android web browser of choice has been ICS Browser +, which is built on top of the stock browser, with a few additions such as being able to permanently change the user agent string to "desktop". I know that the latest version of the Chrome browser has the ability to view web pages in desktop mode, but to my knowledge you must select the "Desktop Mode" checkbox in the settings every time you want the current web page to be rendered in desktop mode. Is there a way to make that desktop mode checkbox persistent or permanently checked? I really want to start using Chrome as my main android browser, but I need to know that I can permanently have Desktop Mode. I hate mobile sites!
I am also interested.

+1 Wont use Chrome without this option
solution
i got fed up with this tonight and found it. sorry no link cuz new account
Basically, if you have a rooted device you can do this easily. Go to root/data/local/ and make a file called "chrome-command-line"
inside you just put something like this:
chrome --user-agent=" Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.45 Safari/535.19"
Kill/restart chrome to apply changes
Instead of copying the useragent from my PC's chrome, I went to whatsmyuseragent.com, switched to desktop mode, and copied that. What I got is for my tf300 so yours may differ.
Apologies for any errors, I'm not a technical person, just thought I would make my first post count

Even 2 weeks with SGS2 I have troubles to get internet experience as I would like it (and as I expected it to be). Can anyone help me to answer at least one of these questions ?
1.) Are there some other browsers besides Opera Mobile that can do pinch zoom
with text reflow (and I mean exactly how it works in Opera Mobile) ? For
some reasons which go totally beyond me this feature seems to be
"uninteresting" for Android developers
2.) Are there some browsers where you can do fast switching between two
modes of opening links ? (like left click vs. mid click on desktop browsers)
mode 1: click on link = open in active window
mode 2: click on link = open on background in new tab
I need to be able to execute those opens in both modes very quickly which
means by single fast click, otherwise (e.g.: pressing link until popup is
shown) browsing feels terribly sluggish. For example good way of switching
between two modes could be by gestures ?
3.) Alternatively to second question - is there some other good way how to be
able to open fast in active window and also in background new tab (without
switching modes) ? E.g. double clicking on link = open in new tab... ?
4.) Currently I have about 11 web browsers installed and when I click on some
URLs in default browser (Miren browser as well) it will ask me
"Complete action using" with list of all installed browsers. Set default works
only for session its self at best. How do I get rid of it once and for all ?
How can I make it open in the browser from which it was clicked on ? (which
is like the only possible action which I think could ever make sense - so
again - this annoying "feature" of letting you choose which browser to use
goes totally beyond me Anyone can explain to me why someone
would like to have it like that ?)
5.) How can Samsung release default browser which seems to have major flaws
- like impossible to permanently set desktop mode without hacks ? (For a
supposedly best browser phone on the market - moreover the UA string for
desktop is actually not recognized as desktop on ALL web sites)
Checkerboards while scrolling ? No pinch zoom with text reflow (opera style)
? Most likely impossible to permanently set default action (see. 4.) with
multiple browsers installed (without hacks).
Does this mean Samsung doesn't care about the most important
application in the entire phone ? Does it mean it will stay like this also in
official future updates ?
6.) Is it possible to ask for some of this features "somewhere" with chances of
"someone" listening and implementing them ?

That's because the browser that came with the phone is still set as default. From your home screen, go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All (tab at the top) then find "Internet" on the list, click on it and in the bit that says "Launch by default" click on "Clear defaults". After that, whichever browser you select with the "complete action using" and provided you tick the set as default box underneath before clicking on it, will then stick as the default browser

Or I can do it myself, right ? Excellent. The thing is I am quite sure there are many more people that would appreciate e.g. "text reflow with pinch zoom" so I don't exactly understand why I should pay for development of overall useful feature like that - similarly if you had a web browser that doesn't have any way to input URL you could hardly say that if I want to enter URL I should pay for developing this feature. I consider pinch zoom text reflow to be essential on any mobile browser. Maybe not all people consider it essential but lot's of do. (and those who don't consider it essential would probably used it as well if it was an option in their browser)
Also - why do we have well defined actions on desktop browsers like left clicks and mid clicks (all major desktop browser have it like that) and on the other hand they don't have long press link popup menu with options "open in new tab" (no major desktop browser has it like that - because it would be slow and tedious) So if it makes sense to have those actions on desktop I don't see why it wouldn't make sense on mobile as well. Or why this should be a feature that I would need to pay for. (I don't need to pay for it on any desktop browser where it is a common standard for many years as tabbed browsing is etc.) If this feature is not viewed by majority as essential then I think either majority of users don't realize they would benefit from it or they genuinely don't need it (in which case that would be quite surprising to me - due to fact it is so common on desktops)
At last: regarding Samsung - I have already payed for the phone for which I expect the stock browser to work and I don't think that impossibility to permanently set desktop mode or checkerboards when scrolling qualifies as an OK working product. In this case I am quite sure it is not up to me to pay more money to get right what should have already worked at the moment I purchased the phone. Btw if the stock browser would work OK I wouldn't need any other browser to replace it. (nor to pay for the development process as you suggest)

Thanks - I wanted to be able to always open link in whatever browser I clicked on it - not just to set default browser. (because e.g. Miren browser also shows this pop-up menu and also uses application set in there). Something like that should be possible right ? However now (following your advice) I was at least able to set Internet as "default" and for reasons unknown to me now it will stick as default even after reboot). Yet to make all "Internet" links open in "Internet" and all "Miren" links to open in "Miren" somehow doesn't seem possible (without pop-ups). For now it's quite OK to have at least "Internet" links open by "Internet".
However here is again my favorite desktop analogy:
If on desktop PC I couldn't make open links in the same browser they were clicked on - the PC would probably very soon ended up being thrown over the window. So either I am stupid and there exists some easy and totally obvious solution how to do it on Android or otherwise the whole thing is just absurd.
Hello, does the absence of answers mean that 1.) indeed can not be enabled on any other browser besides Opera Mobile and 2.) can not be done on any Android browser ? And so on...
Or does it mean that none knows / doesn't care ?

Probably no one thinks it is that important. Since you have 11 browsers installed i think you are probably the best qualified person to tell others which browser supports what. If i make a poll, i doubt more than 1 % of the galaxy s 2 users have more than 4 browsers installed. You might get a place in Guinness Book World Records with 11

Interestingly I thought the most important feature on the phone was the ability to make a receive calls...
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know of an .apk for the DX2 that can change the UAstring within the default browser permanently? I know about the 'about:useragent' or 'about:debug' methods but these are not permanent. It gets pretty annoying to have to type everytime I open the browser.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, whenever our browser goes to a website by default it always displays mobile mode. When you set the UAstring you can set the user agent as android, iphone, desktop, whatever.
The stock browser is fast and I really like using it. I just hate that it always goes to mobile view.
I found this hack for the motorola xoom that does this, I don't know how applicable it would be for us since the xoom runs honeycomb. framework-res-uastring.apk is the APK that xoom owners apply to make the UAString change permanent on their device. Perhaps something similar can be done on our phone.

I'd recommend Boat Browser. It's a fast, lightweight web browser but it also allows user agent settings. You can find some of the details in the below link.

Another good one that I found the other day is Dolphin browser. It is also on the marketplace.
I need to use Internet Explorer on my mobile devices for my job. My company's as well as a few client's secure websites as require Internet Explorer to work correctly. I need to log into those websites to access data while I am working out in the field. Those websites absolutely require Internet Explorer.
Those websites do not even work on Firefox on PC or Safari on Mac. So far only a coworker's Windows phone with Internet Explorer seems to works. Everyone else with iPhone, iPad and Android phone have not been able to use their mobile devices, and we all have to use a laptop with Windows, which seems to defeat the purpose of having a mobile device.
I know Android does not have Internet Explorer, but is there some browser that can emulate Internet Explorer on Android?

Try Dolphin Browser... and try to change UA to Internet Ex (i think)... or Boat Browser
Inviato dal mio GT-S5570 con Tapatalk 2
maybe out of the thread ..
but try out emulating a pc .. ?
Like using your mobile as a controller of the pc
else try Opera if yo haven't , change the user agent into Desktop
hope it works well for yo ..
You can try Dolphin Browser since you can enter a custom user agent so the website will think you are using IE. If its only built to work with IE's rendering engine you may have issues, but often times these sites are mostly functional in other browsers unless they need ActiveX.
This user agent string will tell the site you are using IE8 on XP

Need to run site in compatibility view on IE 8 on android
Hi I have a similar issue with my phone and tab, need to login to secure server but even on PC the darn site needs to run in compatibility view for me to even be able to log in (IE 8-10 only) Have done the string like above opens the window but does not allow login as compatibility view is not enabled... Does the same thing as on PC if this is not enabled ( jumbles up the page and does not allow the login button to be clicked) Is there any way for me to get this working?
Please help.

This is my 3rd post about what I'm trying to get suggestions on with a browser I have been given access to that works only on Windows 10 in windows devices but also on any Android or iOS devices. The view mode can be changed from Android, to Safari, and between desktop/mobile. Mentioning this because noticed it does emulate ie on desktop mode. Could be the answer.
It is MX5, the latest version to Maxthon Browser, and it is worlds ahead of anything available for Android. I am trying to get suggestions as to setting up a thread for availability and such, and am sure you would have to create an account through a Maxthon Browser download from playstore. Has cloud storage as well as syncing favorites, open tabs, between devices. Also has the ability to store webpages offline now in their entirety, or just extract pics, vids that can be modded for use in other ways. Also has what is called UUMail built in you name your own webserver, enter email address into and create shadow (alias) email addresses to use online that are filtered for spam. Adblocking is builtin as well.
If this seems to be an answer, try Maxthon Browser off playstore, create a user account and password. Even if you change the view mode in it to desktop and that does not fix the IE compatability problem, maybe this version, MX5 will.

Here similar problem, wish/need/pray to acces with android browser to old website made for IE 5.0 and javascript... Under PC I sue IE Tab... Try install add-onson Firefox for android, but not works...
(
I need the same thing, I have a dodge service manual cd that uses internet explorer 7 and under to run properly, I have used internet explorer in dev mode to run it it using ie 7, also on chrome I used IE tab extension and they both work great for windows. The problem is on android nothing works. I have tried every browser. I have also tried Yandex browser which supports add on and have installed ie tab but it does not work. I also tried Firefox and install ie tab using chrome store foxified but again it does not work. I wish there was a way of running this cd on android. I think it needs activex, netscape, svg viewer and java script.
Before buying my One X+, I used to own an HTC Desire HD.
In the Internet app, whenever I wanted to share a picture (say on Whatsapp, GMail, Viber or any other program) I used to long-press on the image, and from the popup menu, I would select "share image with", then from the new popup screen I would choose the program I want to choose said image from.
Now, with Jellybean, my only options are to:
Save image
View image
Set as wallpaper
or
Share link
no "share picture"
And unless I'm mistaken, this should be bugging a whole lot of other people too, as this is not limited to the Internet app, but the same applies to Chrome (where the only 3 options for an image long-press are "save, open or open in new tab"
Because of this, I now have to save the file, go to Whatsapp or to the Gallery app, select the picture, and share the picture, then when i'm done, i have to delete the pic from the gallery, because well... i don't like to pile up stuff i no longer need.
I searched the forum and the web, and couldn't find a fix for it.
Which is worse, either very little people are raising this issue, or I'm unable to find these posts... everybody with Jelly Bean is suffering from this problem, but Googleing for "share image with option directly from browser on Jelly Bean" doesn't really yield that many relevant results! The keywords are just too generic!!!
So my question is: Can this situation be remedied by some sort of add-on to Chrome Mobile, a custom apk that modifies Chrome's sharing options or something???
PS: I know I can share the URL of the picture, but that's not the point now, is it? I want to be able to share the picture, not its URL.
Update: I just installed Firefox Browser for Android, and it has the option to share an image directly from the browser! It's a pity I won't be using Chrome anymore since it's super fast and it allows for bookmarks sharing between my laptop and phone, but well... I guess I'll have to make do with Firefox for now.
I don't get it though... why would Firefox have the option enabled and Chrome be so retarded that way? Pity! Firefox even has an extension that allows for a full-screen experience, like with the Internet app!
Chrome needs to improve on these basic stuff real soon!!! For many, like myself, not being able to directly share images from the browser is a deal-breaker (as soon as I found a browser that could)
Hello everybody,
I'm a huge fan of the S7+ and use it every day.
I use Firefox as a browser.
I'm trying to find a way to force desktop mode on web browsing without having to do it manually in the menu for each website.
Can't find a way ...
Thanks for your help.
+1 on that! It's really frustrating - all major web browsers don't offer desktop mode by default. You have to choose this per tab option every time you start the browser. I ended up using Samsung Internet as it was the only browser loading default desktop site versions.
Edit: Opera has this option in settings
There isn't an add on but I believe you can do custom useragent settings using about:config, general.useragent.override if you are running Firefox Beta/Nightly. I have been running this since Tab S4 but have to update the string regularly so it doesn't go out of date on browser version. I am not sure about:config is supported on stable Firefox though.
general.useragent.override not working
i try nightly version,
Any solution? Is there some modded version of firefox?
