Try from the SuperSU app, you might be able to do so.

Your phone can't be registered as "rooted" by using the HTCDev unlock. All it can do is record that your Serial Number requested an Unlock code. They can't confirm you actually used it without looking at your device.
Besides that, you can be rooted without using the unlock, if that's all you want to do. However if you want to install a custom recovery (and subsequently custom ROMs, kernels, splash screens or radios), you will need to unlock your bootloader with HTCDev.

Thanks! when will that change?? Will we ever have a work around??

Difficult to say. It's possible that devs are working on S-OFF, but it's not really necessary for this device. Sprint will service rooted phones, as long as the issue is hardware related.

I have no idea how I lost root?? I just went to use TB and realized I did not have root.. So I had to redo the process. Like I said it's the first time I have evt had it happen on any device... But this is my first HTC so I'm still getting used to it.

I made a mistake not a big deal get over it
..just wondering why some people want to do all this custom stuff to their tablet like installing a custom recovery to flash ROMs/etc, but don't want to root the device..? Huh, I don't get it. Rooting is pretty harmless. Please no offense to the OP, I'm just curious is all. The first thing I do is give myself root access then I start thinking about what I want to do with my device

Having actually read the OP, I think his issue is that he is on .21 for which there currently IS no root procedure, and he wants to know how, in the absence of root, he can flash recovery so that (perhaps) he can install a ROM which is rooted.

I used the Asus unlock tool, then I flashed the ClockWork Recovery Official "TOUCH" recovery v5.8.1.8,
Cleaned, wiped everything, and formated...
Then installed
[ROM] [04/11/12] Primalicious 9.4.2.21 to get back on ICS .21
So playing with it now.....so to speak

HTC ChaCha - Increase internal memory

Hello there. I've got a new HTC ChaCha, the only problem is that its internal memory is 150 MB.
This sucks. I've not been able to find a way to do it as stuff that are compatible with it are really few. I'm really new to Android. I've got the phone for only 2 days. It's true that I adore it, but that memory problem really sucks.
I've seen that there's a way to do so through rooting. Is this the only way to do so? And if that's true, then how?
My carrier is Vodafone by the way. It's unlocked but not rooted.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Find the HTC ChaCha section in the forums, since this is a HTC phone the bootloader has been locked down.
So if you want root you must unlock this bootloader

More information:
Android Version: 2.3.5
Software Version: 1.57.415.4
EDIT: @Frank, Yea I saw that. Someone told me that if it's SIM Unlocked I can download any RUU. I don't know which one to download.
Shall a mod move the topic please to the HTC section then?
A friend helped me with this ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449681 ) topic and I successfully unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. Superuser though says No apps on superuser list. BusyBox doesn't successfully install when I press the install button at the app (not the market), and Titanium Backup doesn't start. I tried using a terminal with su, su is not found.
Now I'm stuck with recovery. I do that fastboot thing, then go to bootloader menu, choose recovery, and I'm stuck forever at the HTC logo...
I've unlocked the bootloader and tried to root it. I've had a problem though as it's S-ON although any SIM works with it. I don't know how to resolve this...

[Q] Photon 4g 2.3.5 question

i have one question and yes i use the search, i have one photon than come from factory with 2.3.5 and i have another one that i make the update to 2.3.5 i read in other forum a article saying that is possible to root the one than come with 2.3.5 from factory, my questios is wich one i can root???? please help me i have both of them in a hurry for a root, thank you for the help
If you mean root, not unlock, there's no reason why you couldn't root either device. If you aim to unlock the bootloader and install custom roms etc. I am afraid you are outta luck.

Both phones can be rooted. I recommend this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1819660
Neither phone can be unlocked.
just curious
is there any android app that is like the samsung galaxy note 2's camera which can capture pictures of people and you could edit it one by one so the faces would be facing right.and if so will the 2.3.5 support it?

Why not unlock the boot loader there is always a Oden to complete stock with locked boot loader so u can return ice returned 2 phones with unlocked boot loaders and never had a issue even one even a MAXX HD lol and one note 2 as long add there's no root they return them. Not having your BL unlocked limits u quite a bit Its your phone just curious
I used casual, and did everything, root unlock and custom recovery

There's no way to root without Odin of root66 just like last build. Expect casual of course and as stated this is the wrong section so I went ahead and reported it for you so adev can move it. Just keep the sections in mind for future posts please.

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a root that does only that: give me root access.
Is CASUAL really the only possible way to achieve root? If so, is it necessary that it unlocks the boot-loader and installs custom recovery to achieve this?
I probably wouldn't mind except that I'd like to just be able to do OTA updates as available, which I hear is not possible after running casual, and I really don't want to fiddle with custom ROMs as the stock Note 2 one works so well for me.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions...

Odin and root66 will root your phone. If you recieve a OTA while rooted it will get rid of your root completely and you will have to re-root your phone, it also has the potential to do some wonky **** to it (ive even heard of bricks happening because of being rooted and accepting the OTA).
Once your bootloader is unlocked you wouldnt have to flash roms if you didnt want to unless you wanted to update to a new OTA.

[Q] Don't know what's wrong...

I'm new to rooting and the whole android scene. Just bought my s4 a month ago and rooted it this week. I've been trying to customize themes and icons and I know I need to deodex the files on my phone. I downloaded universal deodexer and dropped the files where I needed to but the program wouldn't run. My question is, is there any other way to deodex the files and how exactly do I locate them? Maybe I didn't locate the right ones.
First off, its pretty cool that you are actually trying to learn what you are doing. The initial learning curve is pretty big but you will get the hang of it piece by piece. I can't speak for everyone but I as still learning and started with the Droid years ago. Take a look at this post for some useful info. Credit to Obsidian for the definitions and links. Just take note that some of his definition do not apply to this phone since it was created for the Bionic, but most of the info is helpful and universal.

Now, to answer your question. Honestly I would flash a pre-deodexed rom and use it to modify things. A few are in the Samsung Development section that are basically TouchWiz minus the bloat. You may even find one there that suits you perfectly with no extra modding.

check out the youtube channel of DroidModd3rX... find his video titled "Verizon Galaxy S4 How To Unbrick, Unroot, Return to Factory Set"... even if you don't have a Verizon GS4 this will help you if you bricked your device. If you have a different Carrier than verizon then check out "wwjoshdew" channel on youtube........ check out his video titled "How To Unroot and Flash your Galaxy S4 to Stock Android 4.2.2"..... I'm sorry i didn't find you earlier.:crying: ........ this might help you to not pay where you "voided your warranty... please please please do this if you can get your phone back from the company. It will re-warranty your device.
It's ok, I found that video on you tube, and a couple others. I tried all their methods for I bricking, but to no avail. Now all it says is "firmware upgrade error. Please continue in Kies". But it won't let me do anything else.

Even ODIN?
Yea i tried Odin, 3.07 and I tried three different stock images and none of them worked. It got to a part during the process that said "Auth (fail)" and then it would close out the program. I just got my replacement yesterday but I'm kind of afraid to root it again lol.
Although I would really like to root it again, since half of the stuff I used it for had nothing to do with what caused the problem in the first place. I was just really excited to download and install a custom room that didn't lag as much as this nonsense from Samsung.

Your original problem sounded like you were trying to flash the mdk firmware on a me7 firmware which would cause auth fail in odin.
But I couldnt find any info above. If you did the the me7 root method you wont have write permissions because boot loader is locked. which would brick your phone when you flash a rom.
Is the me7 root method the one that roots through the micro SD? Is there a way to do so and unlock the bootloader currently or has one not been released yet for the newest Verizon update?

if you did it through terminal then yes. you are on me7 which is why odin gave you problems. currently there is no way to unlock the bootloader. only the firmware previous to me7 can unlock it. So you might be stuck for a while.
Well that's kind of a drag. Installing custom ROMs is the only thing that an unlocked bootloader does? Or is there another reason to root the phone now instead of waiting for a root that unlocks it? Sorry for all of the questions...

did you update to the new update that the phone was bugging you about when you first got your phone? if yes, then, YOU CANNOT FLASH ANYTHING! OR IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE. if you haven't, then, thank the good Lord that you didn't fall into the samsung trap. you can check on Settings/mydevice/about_phone/Build_Number.... i believe the last frace would say me7... if then, you're kinda screwed for now... if you have something else than youre ok:good:... If you're verizon you WANT TO HAVE "MDK" as your last 3 characters on your build number. MDK= ......Good luck!

root still lets you uninstall or freeze that bloatware on your phone. Only thing I used iy for anyways. have about an extra 400mb of ram freed.
Well that is good to know in case I decide to go through with rooting again. Is there a way to uninstall that update? Or am I stuck waiting for a new method to root the phone that allows flashing? I might root again just to have some of the apps like gmd gesture and greenify.

no you cant do anything right now besides the root. cant uninstall because the bootloader is locked.
some rooted apps are nice to have. just gonna have to wait patiently
In that case, are there any apps you would suggest getting that won't destroy my phone again? I checked online for a list of must-have apps but half of them were directed at people who were experienced with rooting.

I would just get titanium backup for now. and remove some bloatware a safelist can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314265 would not experiment with deleting random things it could cause brick problems nothing much else. if you are not comfortablr with that just try and wait for bootloader to be unlocked which has no eta
I may just do that. If I were to root again on me7 since there's no unlock method, if one were to be released would I be screwed or is there normally a way to do that at a different time than the root?
