I'm actually having this problem too on stock/official ICS update.
Unlocked and rooted though, but still.
My phone widget forgets which app to use to make calls, even after I set defaults.
Maybe someone can help us out on this one?

Stock rooted ICS here too.

[Q]No vibrate since MR2 OTA

I noticed today that my phone doesn't vibrate when I get texts since I installed the update. Has anyone else experienced this? By the way, yes I've checked the settings and I'm not rooted using ADW launcher.

Did you wipe data and cache? Or just laid over?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Ok your not rooted , so you did the ota from verizon. it may be the OTA didnt sit right with the phone.... see if the phone vibrates in other modes, if it does, you will need to do a factory reset. If it doesnt vibrate, you may have a bad motor..
Well, I went through and basically turned off all vibrate options in every app, reported my phone and turned it all back on. Works fine now, could have been my phone confusing itself. Crisis averted. Thanks.

HELP, phone stolen, changed gmail password, now cant track

Is there any way to find the location of my phone? It was stolen and I just a dumb ass changed my gmail password right away so the person who stole it couldnt access my email.
Is there any way to track it now since google cant be synced with it??
I didnt install any tracking apps on my phone.......I am running 5.0 Inject Th3ry
Thanks guys I appreciate your help!
did you register for a sense account?
sense online does not work with the thunderbolt yet...
I thought lookout had a way to push the app to your phone to track it?
If you signed up for Verizon's TEC insurance via Asurion, I believe you get a phone finder service with that. Don't know how accurate it is though. www.phoneclaim.com Best of luck!

If all else fails. Call verizon, tell them it's lost. Call back every day to see if they placed any phone calls. If they did, call the numbers they called. Verizon can provide you with that info. Disadvantage of that, is they can use your phone to buy things or make expensive calls. But if you keep an eye on verizon's history, you should be able to control that if it gets out of hand.
One time my phone was stolen and I was able to find the guy that stole it because his dad was one of his recent calls. Turns out papa was very disappointed haha! I got my phone back and he got a beating.
Go to the android market on you pc and install Lookout Plan B on you lost phone. It will track it.

Umm, yes it does. If your running a ROM with it and your signed into HTC Sense. There is an option under the Location settings called Phone finder.
If it is checked you can go to www.htcsense.com, sign in and it will track your phone. I just tried before posting this to make sure.
That sucks but you hopefully had phone finder on

You can't change a Gmail password with a phone. You have to know the old password to change and it has to be done online. They probably factory reset the phone so u won't be able to track it anyway

I think the OP stated he changed the password himself which would then make Plan B no good since it cannot access the market

Just suspend the phone and black the esn so they can't use it. I hope you have insurance

Why don't you change your Google Account password back to what it was previously, then install Plan B from the market website. It will push to your phone so long as it's still trying to sync.

that's weird because when I try to sign up, the thunderbolt is not a choice when choosing your device.

Because stock, it isn't. But, for example, BAMF 3.0 rc4.9 uses it. And it works with the site.

There's a hacked .apk here that will work on stock ROMs (might have to be rooted). You sign up with your device set as a Desire HD. I'm running it on my stock OTA MR2 rooted ROM.

[Q] SMS Problem

I usually don't ask questions. I solve them myself. Now I have a problem I don't know what to do. I can send SMS, use Mobile Data, make and receive calls, but I cannot receive messages. They don't show up. I am on the AT&T network. Everything worked until one night, it just stopped working. Couldn't get texts. Being a teenager, that is problematic for me XD. I have been to two AT&T stores (local and corporate). They wouldn't help me since it wasn't a branded AT&T phone. Wow. They take the money no questions asked. The part that confuses me is. I didn't do anything to my phone the night it stopped working. Anyone have any thoughts.
-Done so far= Flashed to stock, factory reset multiple times, checked message center #

The only things I can think of is, have you got another messaging app messing things up, or in the messaging settings there's a spam settings, have you checked that?
Sorry if you have already checked these

I think as default the spam settings is on, at least mines on. Might be worth a try.
Also did you restore your old messages when you went back to stock, if so maybe try deleting all messages, clear data in app manager. Back up your messages before deleting though
Yeah i deleted everything. Flashed stock and tried. Nothing. It makes me mad that i cant use my phone.

just to clarify - the new sim card worked for a week or so on your S3 and stopped working. while the same sim card(with an adapter) works on your captivate ?
i want to figure out what's the source of your problem.
other thing - if i understand you correctly you went to AT&T to fix your phone. i suggest go to AT&T center or call their support cause every company has a number for checking sms transportation and see in what stage it failed. it's just sending a code to a certain number and you should get the desired info.
i really don't think it's a software problem
Here are the details. One night i noticed i wasnt getting text from a specific someone and it was weird. Within the next couple of days i went to AT&T store. Got a new micro sim for my S3, didnt work... Got a regular sim and put it into a old phone they had lying around and it worked. I then had them cut it down to micro sim and put it into my S3. Worked for about a week and stopped again. Got a new regular sim and put it into my Captivate and it worked. So im on that until i have it fixed.
Spam off
Sms center number right.

If I were you, I would try with another operator's sim card to figure out if the problem is on att network or the phone. Maybe get one of those pay-as-you-go/prepaid plans and try to receive an sms- if it works, then the problem is on att's network
Thanks i will see if one of my friends will let me.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
When you put your sim in your Captivate did all the missed messages come through on the Captivate. If they did then I would say it's an issue on the S3, if not then it's probably an at&t issue
All of them came through yes. But why would it not work on the S3. And randomly? There was another guy on the forums that had the same problem.

GPS battery drain issue and resolution!!!!

This may have been posted already but I figured out how to stop my GPS from toggling itself on. If I turned off my GPS it would turn itself on and say searching for GPS, or turn itself on when I would be on a call or be in an area with no signal. Even after rooting, installing twrp and flashing Clean Rom 1.1 (THANKS SCOTT) it was still there. Looks like it was the carrier IQ causing the issue. I've done these three steps and haven't seen it since. Step 1: Settings>Location access> check 'Wi-Fi & Mobile network location' then uncheck 'GPS Satellite'. Step 2: On your device go to Settings>apps>runnings>Android System> IQServices> Stop. Step 3: Download 'Disable Services' app, open the app and go to android system the uncheck IQServices. I read that if you reboot your phone it could come back on and you'd just have to do the same steps to turn it back off. Also I heard that AT&T can turn it back on but at least you know how to shut it off. Let me know if this helps
Thought I'd update here and state that this does not affect VZN. This is the only bloatware they outed out of ?

from all the threads I've read it seems to just be AT&T
Actually T-Mobile has it too but gives you an option on initial setup. And of course you can still opt out after the fact.

On the Clean rom Scott set it up so that it does the google initial setup and it ask you the Wifi and GPS question but on the unrooted AT&T version I don't remember it giving me that option. I don't even think they want you to know about CarrierIQ. Thing that sucks is it drains your battery

Try disabling 'remotely locate this device' in android device manager..
It helps preserve battery too..

(Q) wifi automatically turns on?[solved]

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like I can't keep my wifi off.
Every time I turn wifi off it gets turned back on by itself.
I'm sure I'm just being a complete noob and missing something.

Sounds like Sprints "Connection Optimizer" here, I think there's a way to disable it, but I just deleted the APK from the system folder, are you rooted?

After you uncheck it, if you're rooted, use TB to freeze or uninstall so it never comes back to haunt you. I've been freezing apps until I decide if they're fully safe to delete and that I'm sure I won't want them.

Connections optimizer isn't onlyfor Sprint. Fix is probably the same, but might be named differently, but similarly.
