Hi,
I think my phone has a serious problem.
I was on the cm9 nightly from june 16 and everything was working fine, after that i decided to flash siyah kernel 3.3.2, and again everything worked as it should initially.
Now a few minutes ago I wanted to flash the latest nightly via rom manager .
I downloaded the rom and wanted to boot into recovery mode, it didn't work
I tried restarting, but it would not boot anymore. Mind rebooting was working fine before.
Only download mode was working so i went into download mode and flashed siyah kernel odin version. The flash was successful but now the phone wont boot at all. no download mode , no recovery, just the samsung logo and after that, nothing.
I was probably stupid to try to reflash the kernel via odin.
have I killed my phone?
Edit: Oops you said no download mode :S
Do you have a JIG ?
Or just take out the battery for 5 mins and put it back. Try to enter download mode again.
if it works, flash a stock samsung firmware

no i dont have a jig, i probably have to buy one.
Already tried to take out the battery for 5 min, no download mode.
So I should be able to get into the download mode with the jig?
Another question, how could that happen? Everything worked fine until i tried to boot into recovery mode

It will not work if you have an ICS bootloader. (correct me if im wrong) If the jig wont work, your only option is to get a JTAG or to send it to samsung for service.

Honestly I don't know.
I don't know whether JIG will work, either.
JIG is your last chance if something is really wrong.
Try this.
Connect your device to your computer
On your computer, check whether there is a usb device problem in the device manager

Yes JIG is working with ICS , it's just not resetting the flash counter AFAIK

Pray that adb works
Open a command console (start/cmd)
and type this
Code:
adb reboot download
But you will need "adb" to get it working. Do you have it ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868734

Just flash an original stock samsung ICS firmware via ODIN
And for the last, don't do anything that you don't know well.
First read, read, read
Ok so I flashed a stock rom and everything seems to be working fine.
Thank you very much again for your help.
Now what have i done wrong / why did the the recovery suddenly stop to work? In order to avoid things like that in the future.

Don't use ROM Manager, weird stuff happens when it is used (the same problem happened to me, not a brick though). As to why your problem occurred, nobody will know, but at least if the problem occurs again, you will know how to fix it
Chris.
it is too late for this, but... i personally stopped using the rom manager. it (soft) bricked my phone twice. I think its always better to download the rom manually and manually enter the download mode anyways.
but maybe it's just me or you had bad luck
So rom manager could be the reason.
I never actually used rom manager to flash directly, i just used it to download and then boot into recovery from rom manager then flash.
Don't use Rom Manager if you have a kernel with CWM in particular (has also been known to cause probs for people not running kernels with CWM as well). Rom Manager has a habit of breaking CWRecovery and/or causing bootloops/soft bricks.
Use/have one or the other installed on your phone (I.E if you're running a kernel with CWM, use that & uninstall Rom Manager).

Hello,
Im all new in this forums and i just got my just got my first smartphone, a samsung galaxy ace with android 2.3.6
I tried to root it on my windows 7 laptop with superoneclickroot. this didnt work so i flashed AceGingerRoot with the stock recovery and it succeeded. After this i tried to flash ClockWorkModRecovery with the stock revovery and the original version didnt work so i downloaded ClockWorkAce.zip and flashed this with the stock recovery. After this i clicked reboot now. and after that my phone wouldnt boot anymore. I can turn it on but it then keeps getting stuck at the boot screen with samsung galaxy ace gt s5830i on it... I can get into recovery mode and into download mode and i looked on some forums and they told me to just flash the stock rom with odin. I tried this and got my phone in download/odin mode (it says odin mode but idk if it is download or odin mode) but my pc and laptop both dont recognize the phone, but my pc actually says: ''unknown device is ready for use'' but in odin the white box thingy with com port mapping above it doesnt become yellow, although i added the cooper.ops in the select ops box and i also added a 1 package in the one package option. oh, also when i plug the phone into the usb cable when its off it give a grey empty battery with a loading circle inside it on the phones screen
I only got my phone 1 day now so please help me, it would be REALLY REALLY appreciated

Try to install samsung usb drivers.the download mode volume down+home+power button...
Bootloader okay... (phew)

Then give it a go, at least you can get into download/recovery mode
Hmm, I might look into getting you a flashable stock recovery for 5830i... but don't rely on it
If this doesn't work you can try to install samsung kies. There are the drivers included, too
Purchased your phone today and already bricked it? Bravo
Well bro install Samsung Kies, it'll install all necessary drivers for you ( most of cases)
Then try ODIN and it'll recognize your device or go to samfirmware.com and you'll find everything of your need.
and you need to be very careful now on selecting anything for your device as its GT-s5830I not standard version GT-s5830. So must of the stuff will not work only S5830I things will work

Nope, its not a ROM- Its a Deodex (Removes .odex files in system/app to make free space) and only works on two paticular basebands
Try installing this in your recovery, you may have to name it update.zip, it is a cwm for your 5830i that you had on the link.
(Standard disclaimer, if it doesn't work and messes up your device further- I apologise very much, but you agree to take no action. By trying this you agree to it)
ok, i started odin version 1.84 (it says odin3 1,84) and here my phone gets recognized but its a really complicated program. I think it can be fixed with this program but i just dont understand it and the only stock rom i can find for s5830i is this one: http://www.androidaddicted.com/firm...erbread-2-3-6-india-firmware-update-1450.html and it is a indian version but the only one i think
So I rooted my Note a few weeks back using the non-counter advancing rooting method via odin. Worked flawlessly, and I'm rooted without issue. Tired of waiting for stock ICS to come out so I want to start flashing ROM's. Trying to install the newest CWM through Odin....well Odin doesn't recognize when the phone is connected. Tried 2 different windows 7 VM's and one W7 machine. I flashed via one of the VM's and it worked fine. It's not working on any machine that I have. I also have a mac book pro, but no idea if there is a apple Odin. What do I do? Don't have the android APK and really don't wanna go that route through ADB.
Can I just reboot into recovery and 'install via sd' or whatever the selection is, navigate to CWM touch recovery zip and install? or will that potentially do some serious damage?
Also if it's available on the CWM website as a DL why isn't it an option through the app to install? Would make my life WORLDS easier at this point.
A rooted phone would not interfere with Odin, completely unrelated. Perhaps your cable is bad, or you are installing the wrong drivers.
That said, once you have CWM on your phone, there should be no reason to use odin again. The updates for CWM are flashable via CWM. Most every single ROM is flashable via CWM. I can't really tell from your description if you were successful installing a custom recovery yet.

Trying to install a custom recovery. Sorry may not have made that clear in my rant. I've tried a couple different cables, and same luck. I DLed the CWM app from the Google Play, but have not installed a custom recovery. Trying to get CWM touch installed. Galaxy Note isn't an option when I try and install a custom recovery(CWM Touch Recovery...or hell any CWM recovery Note isn't an avialable model) via CWM.
So the options I've found so far are: Install custom recovery(CWM) via Odin, or install via ADB using android APK.
Are there other options to installing CWM recovery?
Sorry kind of a newb to all of this. I had a Dell Streak before this as my first android and it was a PITA to install Custom ROM's and root that I didn't mess with it much. Did root it and managed to soft brick my phone and bring her back to life. lol Then figured it was too much a pain to deal with.

Not sure what's going on with XDA, but my reply didn't post. So here goes: Yes that is correct I would boot into DL mode and odin didn't see my phone.
So I opened one of my VM's( the one previously used to root) uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers and voila odin sees my phone again. CWM touch recovery installed. Now off to flash Team Perfections ICS. Only chose them as they have a step by step video of installation and it seems stupid easy. Also seems to be the most stable from reading. Could be wrong. I'll try it out and wait for official CM9.
Have you tried using a different PC. I remeber my desktop wouldnt let me odin all the sudden one day. I tried my laptop worked no problem. using a VM sounds sketchy id be afraid there were too many facets or some risk of data corruption on its way. That may be incorrect but data > virtual hardware > hardware > phone. just too much for me -_-

I hear ya. Just when I start reading about some ROM's they say: oh and you need to flash this, this and this or else your phone will blow up and likely kill your whole family.
Being somewhat new to the flashing business just flashing ONE zip file is enough for me. Yet alone a bunch of other things. Just starts to confuse me with the multiple flashes......do I install all the same( as far as "flashing" goes)? Just boot into recovery navigate to file...double click and it'll do it's thing? If so I suppose that's not all that difficult. I like the one and done approach though. lol
Yup.
If there are multiple zips, flash them all like the main ROM.
Sweet! Flashed the Objection ICS. Like it so far. Seems like the modem is kinda all over the map for lte speeds.

Hello Sirs,
Today I was about to flash the long awaited CM9-RC1 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 device with ROM Manager. After downloading it with Rom Manager I checked the three options:
Wipe Factory/Reset
Wipe Dalvik
Backup Device
Phone reboots and screen turns black. I waited for a good 15 minutes yet nothing happens. I popped the battery out and tried to fire it up again but now it wont start properly. It will be detected by computer as a "Unrecognized Device" only. The phone shows the Samsung logo + the flashcounter warning I assume? (Yellow triangle with exclamation mark.).
I cant access recovery-mode (clockworkmod) the only thing I am able to access is "Downloading Mode" but the device remains "Unrecognized Device" by computer. I did a little research about this problem - I only found some tips on changing cables/clean usb-port. None of which worked out to any advantage. I cant access the phone with adb either, and USB Debugging is not enabled as far as I know.
Odin nor Heimdall wont recognize the phone.

Previously installed on the phone was 20120624-CM9-NIGHTLY along with Siyah Kernel SGS2 v3.3.2.
Worth to mention is that this happened to two phones at the same time. My brother also flashed his today and got the same result. Also with Siyah kernel as mentioned above.
I've tried 4 different USB-cables, and two different Windows 7 computer. Also I've reinstalled one of the computers to try a little more. No success.
This tells me that there is something with the Siyah kernel that borks the phone somehow. Yet it seems possible to fix it since I can access the "Downloading Mode". Dont you think? Anyone with similiar issues and maybe have a solution for this?
And if there is no software solution to this is it possible that a USB-JIG would sort this out?
Sincerely,
Your problem is likely rom manager instead of siyah kernel or otherwise. Rom Manager does not work properly on our phone and is known to cause problems when installing things with it. Did you install drivers with the other computers you tried?
Went through this today too. My fault for using Siyah
Don't freak out, just grab Odin 1.85, and flash the noob-proof build available in the Discussion thread from Download Mode.
Your data will be wiped btw. A safer way would be to flash the Recovery via Odin, and once in recovery, reflash CM9.
The lesson of the story is to not use Siyah, as it's not supported under CM9

That's not true. There's a whole thread full of people using Siyah and CM9 here.

Well I am kinda freaking out since the device keeps showing up as "Unrecognized Device"! So I am not able to flash anything since it doesnt show up anywhere. I cant do anything to touch the phones software. Its just b0rked I guess.
I actually have the same problem with a S2 LTE which suffered from the same symptoms as stated above. Im starting to suspect maybe a crappy USB cable is the underlying reason for this, causing the usbport on the phone to fry or something.
Did you install drivers with the other computers you tried? Yes sir I installed the proper drivers there aswell.
I tried flashing the latest RC of cm9 and it went well even though i have siyah as the kernel. You shouldn't have flashed through rom manager. I flashed it through recovery

I hate ROM Manager. Is some app that I will never trust. The only purpose of ROM Manager: money, and placebo [you think it's the easiest way to flash stuff]. Can't find out why they put this in the ROM. At least they could make some OTA download. What is the Software update for at settings? Don't know...
ROM manager is crap. Never use it. That is what caused the issue. I am using CM9 based ROM with Siyah without any problem.

So what are you suggesting I should use instead? I'm hoping to return
the phone in topic when ive jigged it and demand a new one since there is still warranty hehe.
Don't use Rom Manager with kernels which have CWM/CWRecovery I.E. Siyah, CWM is more than capable of doing all the flashing/backups/restores/etc you need. If you end up using CM9 & Siyah again, make sure you freeze Rom Manager with TI or similar.

So the weirdest of things just happened. I left the phone discharging with the download mode active during the night. Today I bought a new phone (4100SEK /$585USD) and I thought maybe, just maybe it works now. I put the device in Download Mode and now popped it into the computer with the same cable as yesterday. And there it was "Device installed successfully!". Holy ****. Fired up Odin v1.85 and just pushed that damn recovery image onto the phone and bam! Rebooting, works like a charm. Now thats just f**king unbeliveable. But of course this wouldnt have happened if I DIDNT buy a totally new phone. The irony.

Hey I have a i9100 that I had running on cm9 nightly. I updated my phone to the latest one at the time which was jul 22 and was 101.56 megs I believe. I went into cwm to install the firmware, wiped user data then installed the update. Install went fine, no errors in cwm. Although when I did wipe data I did not wipe cache with it.( I just wiped data accidentally because it was a force of habit since I flash alot)
Now the phone is in a boot loop. It won't go into recovery mode but will do download mode. Although when it is in download mode windows is saying that the device is malfunctioning. The setup I'm using is the same I've used to flash the phone atleast 30 times via oden so it should be working in theory.
Any ideas guys, I'm at the end of my rope as far as what to do.

That's the First thing I read when I searched for a solution. But that relies on the computer seeing the phone, which mine doesnt. It's looking like jtag may be the route I have to go. Any have any experience with those services

No CM9 nightly is 101.56MB. They are usually around 130MB. You probably flashed a CM7 nightly. AS long as download mode is working, you can flash resurrection and then the correct nightly.... or odin back to stock, root... then flash the nightly, but make sure you have the correct version as the CM7 and CM9 nightlies appear in the same list and it's easy to grab the wrong one if you aren't careful.

Do you have the drivers installed? If so, and it's still not working, you might try a different USB port and/or cable combo to see if one of them could be wonky.

could it be that flashing cm7 on cm9 damaged the usb functionality. but the phone is still recognizing the jig that i have. the phone will go into download mode via button combo or jig. since the jig still works doesnt that mean that the usb port on the phone is still functional
HELP! Bricked Galaxy S2- GT-i9100
I have a galaxy s2 gt-i9100 and i love this phone but it's been bricked and i want to know if theres anything i can do. I was running cm10 no problem for awhile now even though one of my flashes took away my computers ability to see my phone when plugged in and i've tried everything. I thought mobile odin was what i was looking for to flash the official JB that came out. so i flashed it and then that was all she wrote for my phone. won't turn on at all i just see a greyed out battery on my screen.
i can get into download mode using button combos no problem but odin doesn't recognize just like computer.
I can get into recovery mode but it's not the same as when cm10 was on i think it's stock recovery from when i tried to flash with mobile odin and the options it shows me do not help me at all.
my question is: can i save my phone? or do i have to buy a new one?
P.S. It must be the phone cause i'm using a new computer and it can't see the phone either, i downloaded kies and when i plug in the phone it still goes through the process of finding and trying to DL the drivers but then it fails. same as my computer.
please and thank you
