Email to sync on wifi only? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want an email similar to the stock cm7 with the option to sync on wifi only. Any recommendations?

one suggest is to turn data off till u in WiFi area..

In my opinion, instead of looking for an email app which allows Sync on wifi only, you should use an Email app which allows 'sync when Background Data turned on' and/or 'Auto Sync' settings is on. The reason is, emails are very important and they should be pushed/pulled on any internet connection you have at anytime/ anywhere. I know saving 3G data charges and/or over heat are your issues in this case, so my recommendation above resolved both of these two issues.
And K-9 Mail is such an app I would like to suggest. You can go to its Settings/Network to find these options.
My solution also means you will use an extra tasker app, such as Locale, Smart Action... for teaching your phone when/where/how long/etc... the Background Data and/or Auto Sync is turned on.
For an example which meets exactly your need, just use Locale to program your phone to turn on Auto Sync when wifi connection connected. This also means you must set Auto Sync always is off by default. That's all.
As for me, I even dont use Locale or Smart Action, but just using K-9 Mail with option of 'Sync when Background data and Auto Sync checked'
Hope this can help,

Thanks for your suggestions

Auto connecting to data plan-how to change setting?

When i insert my SIm card and set up my data plan on Cingular-AT&T my connection turns on automatically without me starting it. How can I turn this off? I do not want it to turn on automatically...
JM
You can set up a dummy connection setting, and switch to the dummy when you do not want to use the data plan. It would still allow you to make and receive call, but you can't surf the net or use email using the data connection (of course you could still use WIFI to surf the net, use email, update weather, etc).
They may be more elegant way, but this is the way I use when I'm dangeriously approaching my download quota limit.
auto connect
WHy does it auto connect by itself? The unit will be sitting on my desk and I look at it and its connected.
Can I make a setting that only connects manually like on my HTC touch phone?
Is this a push email setting?
JM
it'll depend on what you're running, htc weather will auto update, as will several others.
Paul at modaco has written a piece of software to easily switch between no data and data.

[Q] Turn off background data if wifi off?

Hi,
Is there an app, script or something (which MUST be lightweight for RAM and battery) that would turn off background data when wifi is off?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk
If you enabled background data at any point, you would know that 3G and 2G networks are only used when wifi is not connected. By turning it off when wifi is off would effectively make your data connection and plan redudant.
Disabling background data while is not on WiFi
Actualy, this is not a bad and dum question, these days, that many people have limited data, I really don't want my apps and other stuff on the background access the interent and I prefer these to get done on wifi, specialy market which I really don't want it to access the internet and check for updates while I'm driving, I would like this to get done when I'm on wifi, I noticed that my phone used 10 MB / day even if I don't use it myself.
please let me know if such a app exist
You can use DroidWall to get an exhaustive control over apps. Really easy to use, and you can decide app by app if they can get internet acces on 3g, wifi, 3g and wifi or not at all.

SORRY IGNORE ABOVE!! That is not what you're asking for. But you can use CPU tuner for that https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.amana.android.cputuner&hl=en
Go to wireless
Then scroll down and last one choose
Then untick the one wich is ticked

I've tried each of these suggested options, but none of these have I found satisfactory.
The problem is that one wants to be able to retrieve and send MMS messages, without other data being exchanged (at least in my contract in Sweden, MMS messages are included in the contract, and is not counted as regular data. I'm guessing your contract is under the same premises...). So that rules out the option os switching off the 3G network.
Next, the problem with DroidWall in this situation, is that there is a 0.4kb data leak through the firewall every time the Wi-Fi successfully connects to a wireless network. Don't ask me how or why (I used two or three different apps to ensure that this was the case). Even if this data amount was fairly small, I wasn't satisfied, since I pay a correlating fee for every byte sent or recieved by my phone, and I wanted all other data stopped.
The solution I finally came to was simpler than I imagined. I altered the API (or APN) settings in the "mobile networks" menu found in the network settings in the device menu. I simply accessed the settings for my account and changed API-type (APN-type), so that it only said "MMS" (erase "default" and "supl"). The only flaw with this option is that one has to fill out "default" in this Space again if one actually desires to use 3G data for some reason. Anyway, this has worked solidly for me for a couple of months (no data leaks).
Hope this helps you!
Sincerely, yitzhaq

Email client not syncing over 3G, only works over wifi.

Hi,
I search over the forum but didn't find the answer to my question.
I'm the happy owner of a GS3 stock rom, not rooted, fresh out of the box.
It works verry well. I'm impressed by the device itself but I struggle with a problem.
My exchange account won't syncronize over 3G. Every few minutes, I get a message saying "unable to connect to [my account]"
gmail client works just fine but I have two email addresses (pro and home).
This is not a connectivity issue as other apps works great aover 3G and this is not a network limitation as I can connect thru other wifi networks.
I can do all necessary test and I had a look in all settings I can find without any succes until now.
I had 3 FW update since I own the device, each time I hope it will solve my probelm...
Thanks for your help.
Best regards from Belgium,
JC

Thanks for your answer.
I checked and I can find any exceptions (I can't find the options, to be clear). Under the Data Usage, I have mobile data and Wifi pages but I don't find any way to manage exceptions.
There is a similar issue with the hotmail app - SSL auth error on 3G - Fine on Wi-Fi
The way to resolve that issue is to uninstall the app - remove any accounts associated to it (the hotmail sync account removed authomatically) reboot the phone - then set everything back up BUT DO SO ON 3G and not Wi-Fi!!! For some strange reason this sorts out the issue and can then connect on both 3G and Wi-Fi.
This is obviously specific to the hotmail app - but as this is also email it may also resolve your issue - Worth a shot at least. .Good Luck

How can I uninstall the stock email app? I will try to clear my account but not uninstall the app and see if it solves my problem. I will try it tonight when I will be back in my country and not in roamuing anymore.
Thanks
I don't use the stock app at all - I guess you can remove the associated accounts under settings/accounts then go to app manager and clear cache and data.
My issue was due to a self signing certificate or something - guess that a hidden setting somewhere changes when you accept but wasn't working correctly when setting up accounts over Wi-Fi.
Hope it works for you. You not the option to get a specific mail provide app from the playstore? - Could be another option
I will let you know
I'm quite happy with the stock mail app for now. If I can solve my problem by reseting my account over 3G, I will keep it.

I resolved this issue by:
- deleting the Exchange Active Sync eMail Account I set up over WiFi (Email->Settings->Delete Account);
- created an EAS Account over 3G, selected "Accept every SSL Certificate" (Email->Settings->Add Account).
It seems that creating an EAS Account over WiFi prevents the same account to access the server over 3G/EDGE/... connection.
Tried on Sony Xperia Tablet Z SGP321, default mail app, with Android 4.2.2.

Problem solved!
Hi,
I have also an Galaxy S5 Android and sinds we have Exchange 2010, it does not synchronize any more. If I put my phone on SAVE MODE, it doesn't work. If I DISABLE the SAVE MODE it works.
Go to Setting => Power saving => put Power saving mode OFF
good luck.

[Q] Issues with Juice Defender App Configuration

Hi,
Hope this is the right place to post this, I'm still mostly a lurker on xda.
Anyways, I've been trying to use Juice Defender Plus' app configuration to manage individual apps' connectivity.
I have virtually all other JD features disabled, as I'm using Tasker instead.
In order to try JD out, I set both Chrome and the stock browser to Disable, which as far as I understand, should cut off these apps' ability to connect to the internet.
But when I open either one and browse to a webpage, it acts as normal. Also, according to the app NetLive, Chrome sometimes connects to the internet in the background.
JD is enabled, and I'm on 4.1.2 stock, unrooted SIII.
What am I missing here?
JD is supposed to be able to block an apps data connection?
Thanks!
EDIT: I've set JD profile to customize, and on top of the settings page it says «all connectivity controls are disabled» . This disappears if I enable e.g. mobile data control, but doesn't change the behavior described above.
Contact the developer .
