Hey, my phone has been bought in on September 2011.
I noticed battery keeps my phone shorter than it's been before.
Is it either by ICS or battery is just getting old and less reliable?
I use XWLPG and my hourly battery usage is about 0.8% to 1.4% (battery monitor).
Sometimes after I unplug from charger and keep phone alone, battery usage is about 0.1%... dunno why and how....
I use only few background apps:
- network type marker (to show I am in either 3G or 2G)
- TotallRecall for call recording
I know in GB I could unplug phone for night and by few hours I could loss max 1-2 percent (sometimes even 0% by 6 hours).
Now I lose usually 5-7%.
Do you have similar symptoms in your phones?

hey pal i also bought my s2 during the same period and my batt is good enough even now
u have to check which apps is causing the batt drain for u since in ICS, also turn off ur data connection when not in use since they also cause heavy batt drain
u can try Better battery app from store to see the wakelocks that is causing batt drain
ps- before all change ur modem and see
There are a couple of reasons why your battery is performing like that.
Some of my friends have reported lesser battery life when they switched to ICS, even when running the exact same apps. So you might want to try different ICS firmwares/roms to see if that will make a difference. Although, I'm using XWLPG also and it drops ~7% overnight. Same as your's.
Also, if you find that your battery levels are wack, then you might have a faulty battery. On my GNote, I sometimes have to push the battery upwards while turning the phone on so that the contacts touch. I think that it may have been due to constant charging (may be wrong) So, yes, there is a possibility that your battery is getting 'old'.

I don't use data connection and use same apps like in GB. I did check and deep sleep works, wakelocks test will have to wait till tomorrow when I charge battery fully^^

Hmm I am glad to hear you've got similar power drain during night. Perhaps ICS is really more powerhungry than GB. I will test in Better battery app for wakelocks occurence.
I don't know how and in what way the battery monitor reliable can be, especially when I see hourly battery drain. Generally sometimes I see power drain at 0.1-0.2%, sometimes at 1% but in same time CPU was doing nothing... (deep sleep).
I found Camera eats a lot of power compared to GB... or it is only my imagination
OK I checked Better Battery Aps but frankly dunno how to read values.

for the same open BBS app press soft menu key once to enter BBS settings there u select More> Dump to file
then u find the log file created in ur internal sdcard u post the same to analyse it

I really have a bad battery drain, I fully charged my new Samsung Galaxy S2 from 0% battery to 100% when it was off (after a calibration).
I have set all tips for battery consuming etc, etc.. I installed BetterBatteryStats and it seems like gtalk_async_conn (Google Services) used 17% of the battery in the last 40 minutes.
Is there anything I can do to disable this? I disabled the sign-in in Gtalk settings, but it's still wasting my battery.

if you are using BetterBatteryStats no need for an own thread, there's one already (use search).
In your OP you mixed count and percent, your problem is more than gtalk if your consumption is as you said.
following the hot-to for bbs start with giving us some details about awake and screen on but do yourself a favor, let a mod close this thread and post your questions together with the missing info in the right thread.

GTalk has not used 17% as you mistakenly believe. It has used only 3.6% as per your attached screenshot. So GTalk is not the only service responsible for your battery drain.
That said, it is a fact acknowledged by almost all the owners of SGS II that Low Battery Life and Low Volume of sound output are the two sore points of this phone. Samsung should seriously do something to improve Battery Life and Sound volume of this phone. Hope something comes up in the next updates.
Maps also should be running. Must be also one of the reasons.
And juice defender also consume battery.

3 days???? Which ROM? A lot of people exaggerate here. I'm on CF Rooted stock KF3 with 200+ apps and it lasts for only about 18 hours in normal usage.
i also want to see that 3 day....
Yup juice defender is nothing if you know what your doing.
Example : if you an app and minimize it it will be running in background if you wont be using the app for quite awhile kill the app using task killer. If example you use facebook app. And you u are using it frequently but you kill it and reopen it. It will consume more battery. Only kill app that you wont use.
And disable data went not using and use 2g network when not using data.

i guess we are in the same boat then, better battery stats also show me nothing suspicous,
with little to normal use, my s2 can hardly go for 6 to 7 hours, everything off, only 3g on..
that is on stock rom, im now testing CM7 build 38
Charged 100% go recovery wipe battery stats..
It take sometime for the bateery to function properly.. a day or two.. so after the calabaration let it go to nearly 10% then charge till 100% without disturbing it.

most definitely, i was a big fan of Juice Defender Ultimate but the reality is it actually uses up almost as much as it saves, this was pointed out to me and it is 100% true, since i froze it yesterday im having superb battery life my phone wont die until tomorrow i estimate ill get up to around 40 hours with about 1 call, 15/20 texts and medium internet usage, and some music so far and ive 47% left, the battery was charged to 100% at 23.50 last night and i left it on all night with data enabled and the drain was only 6% in almost 8 hours..

hi everyone this is my first thread and i am glad to be here
i have a question
i am thinking of buying the samsung galaxy s3 but i read that some people are complaining about the signal and the battery and i wanted to know is an issue in the carrier or from the phone itself ? and is it a problem on all of the samsung galaxy s3 phones ?
Well this S3 is the smartphone with the longest battery life I ever got.
I would say it is twice the nexus one or LG X2 I had before and 4 times my older Basic Galaxy.
Reception is very good and Wifi is also the best I have ever seen.
Battery life is fantastic and signal strength is also fantastic (both better than any other android phone I've ever owned). I've found wifi strength can be a bit lacking but not to the point where it becomes a problem.
Same as above, no signal or battery issues. Battery is very long-lasting.
Only issue I've had so far was a wakelock keeping the phone awake all night and draining it, but that can happen on any device.
Good reception and battery life. Gotta be happy with 6 hours screen time.

very impresive man..btw my s3 doesnt have any signal or battery issues
i think my have battery problem, it don even last me a day and i dont even use it that much and also mine gets very hot when charging it
Believe me after coming from a LG optimus 3D i would say the battery life is awesome. LG optimus 3d battery life with heavy usage 3 hours no usage 5. S3 with heavy usage 15 hours or more, no usage i have no idea last time i left it on idle to check it was almost 2 days..
That is comparing a dual core to a quad core phone the battery is simply amazing and the signal hasn't dropped for me at all it is excellent..
I'm having battery issues. Cell standby seems to use a crap load of battery for seemingly no reason.
This pic is just over night. I went to bed with 100% battery and woke up with these battery stats:
Battery life is not a issue in this mobile..its awesome..even signal strength is also fine so till now no probs at all ..
So I'm having major battery issues. After 2 hours of light use my battery is down to 84%. Tried to post screen shots of the battery usage but can't upload .png file. Basically the android system is consuming almost 90% of the battery. After 4 hours it is almost half dead and by 8 hours less than 20% left. Very frustrating. Power saving mode is on.
Ok so i was able to attach an image showing a screenshot I took yesterday showing the terrible battery life.

My problem exactly. Cell standby is giving my battery a hard time. On Voodafone now.
IMO High Cell standby power drains suggests your signal is weak?? chaning your wireless network settings may help Eg: 4G on or off, roaming etc. High Android system drains suggest unnecessary systems always running. I would try turning off any unused apps, GPS, etc & lowering display brightness. I think I'm going to get this phone tomorrow.

Is anyone else finding it extremely difficult to get through the day without struggling to keep your SIII alive? I thought the battery life was supposed to be superior to its predecessors? I'm a first time Android user but I did not think I would have to lower my brightness all the way and constantly monitor my devices battery life.
do you have some dumbass apps draining your battery?
i found my culprit and it's Friendcaster without even turn the notification on
get Badass battery monitor to find it or just use the one in setting
I'm finding the battery life is great, and lasts a whole day with no problems
It really depends on what do on your phone.
Try posting a screenshot of your battery stats. Android has an inbuilt monitor with each app and its usage being displayed. Easy method to spot a drain.
I just downloaded that in addition to my other app but there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary that seems to be killing my battery. Most of it is coming from my screen but I keep at it 25% brightness the whole time. Super odd
I usually get around 16 hours of standby and at least 4 hours or more of screen time.
You should try Watchdog Task Manager. It will be able to tell you if an app is running and using more processes than it should. Also I've never used badass battery stats, but better battery stats will tell you if anything is holding a wakelock. It is free for XDA members so you don't have to buy it on the market. Just search for it

On saturday I drove for 4 hours streaming music via bluetooth to my car. Used navigation for about 40 minutes with the screen on the whole time. Took a few calls, sent a few sms's. Read a few forums using data. Got home that night with about 40% left. That'll do me.
Maybe I'm just freaking out about the whole battery situation? I just expected it to be a lot longer and a lot better. I constantly worry if I'll be able to make past 10PM when I start my day at 7AM.
On wifi with little to no voice signal that cuts out frequently, I might get seven hours of screen on time today D:

I'm getting huge drain from Cell Standby.
It'll lose 30% overnight. I keep checking for a software update. It's got to be the modem.
I'm holding off on rooting and custom ROMS until I know for sure this is fixable in firmware.
My phone's on LE6 and is from Thailand.
I see that you have poor signal reception
maybe that's why
last time I went underground, just 5 mins of standby it took away 10% of my battery
when it searches for signal it drains a lot
you could also try to disable auto search for network
go to setting>more settings > network operators and select it manually

Super idea ) i've done that today. All seemed good. 2,5 % awake is fine
Anyone have any ideas what to look for? I dont think I have a battery drain because with the screen off I lose about .5-1% every hour or so. But when im using the phone, the battery seems to drain very fast. The most screen time I have gotten is 2hrs, and its usually less than that.
Brightness does not seem to matter, I always have auto off and have tried brightness at 20%, 30%, 50% and 60%.
Use this application to locate Battery Drain https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5XYXphQmUuYW5kcm9pZC5CYXR0ZXJ5RHJhaW4iXQ..
Update to the latest firmware or put a custom ROM.
The problem has been resolved. I had also a fast drain battery.
I even had the screen On during the night.
When I closed the eyes it was Off, but in the morning at my wake up it was On
Thanks I'll try the battery drain app.

The battery of my SG3 drains so fast I'm evne thinking of returning it (bought it yesterday). It can't be normal, it's almost like my old iPhone 3G. It goes like 1% per minute or so while browsing.

I think mine is like that as well. Maybe 1% minute when using heavily. Also thinking selling it. Can't return, bought on Craig list.
Very strange behavior. Something must be wrong with your soft or hardware because this is smartphone with the best battery (except razr maxx).

I am experiencing the same thing since i flashed omega rom v13. i was getting 5/5.5 hours of screen time on stock Samsung rom before i flashed. Right now the battery drains 1% every 2mins when the screen is on :/ (brightness has alwsys been around 20/30%)
Only thing that has changed since i flashed is the fact that i had wifi off during sleep on stock but now its always on. I have tried setting it to always off but it automatically switches to always on everytime i do it for some reason.

I believe this is normal with new devices. It takes time before Li-Ion batteries "adjust".
Flashed my phone to another rom, JB 4.1.1 and it's the same. So no, it's not software issue. Hardware? I don't think so... the phone is new and works just fine. The problem is the battery that it's new, or maybe is damaged... who knows (probably not).
I have the same problem. I see people post threads the battery, that lasts 2 days !
I'm thinking of buying a new battery, just to check if it is a battery thing, if the battery is ****ed up or something... The Galaxy S3, should last for atleast one day! and I can't get even that! is there a fix for that? I can post my battery use from the settings if necessary.
There are loads of threads about battery drain, a lot of it relates to Samsung bloatware and background services like face awake etc, you just need to explore your phone, learn how to use it, and see it up properly.....it is not an iPhone...it requires independent thinking skills
I'm experiencing the same problem on CM9.1. Try draining the battery fully twice. That'll calibrate it and improve battery life.

Since two days, I'have the same problem.
Before Wednesday, I'haven't issue about battery drain. My phone battery worked more than 2 days idle with about 4hours screen ON and 1 hour voice calls.
But now, it works fine between 100% and 60% and then, battery drain starts. Just a few hours for the phone to indicate that it's remain 5% of power.
Do you think they are a background daemon running sometimes (why since two days?) ? Or it's a network problem ?
I'll try to wipe my battery stats and fully charge the battery.
Currently, my SGS3 International works with the latest UK firmware : PDA/XXBLG8 - MODEM/XXBLH1

I'm currently using CM 10.1.3 STABLE with the radio included in the latest JB update for the UK. However, with this, battery usage when using mobile data is terribly high (I've tried two different batteries) and is eating about 1% per minute, even I know that's ridiculous.
Are there any suggestions?
Thanks.
Yeah, you need to use the one which gives you the best signal. That'll then be the one with the lowest battery drain as your phone isn't searching for a signal constantly.
To do that, test the modems released by your carrier for your region /country. If you still don't find one that works for you, flash whichever one takes your fancy. Don't flash modem +RIL as you're on custom rom, you want modem only.
The other thing is, have you installed betterbatterystats? My guess is that it's something eating your battery, not the phone searching for signal. Find the xda thread for it and follow the instructions in the OP to figure out what's causing the drain.

The other thing is, have you installed betterbatterystats? My guess is that it's something eating your battery, not the phone searching for signal. Find the xda thread for it and follow the instructions in the OP to figure out what's causing the drain.

I've had BetterBatteryStats running all day. Here's what it reported:
Kernel Wakelocks
- PowerManagerService
- Multipdp
- secril_fd-interface
Partial Wakelocks
- Event Log Handoff
Other
- Awake
- Screen On
- Good signal

It's no use to rely on BBS whilst you're using the phone. You need to look at the stats after you have left it idle for 4 hours or so. It's also not very useful to post the stats only, post the dumpfile after it's been idle for 4 hours. If you post the dump in the BBS thread the guys there are kind enough to analyze the dump.

Ah I see. Okay I'll leave her running until around midday today (I'm in GMT-0), and I'll pm you the dump if that's okay.

I'd prefer not to analyse dumps from a PM sorry. Nothing personal, but your best bet is to post your dump in the BBS thread itself. The guys there will analyse your dump and give advice how to proceed from there.

That's alright, I understand.
EDIT: Attached the dump.

Thanks.

Did you try and delete the batterystats.bin in /data/system. ?
And try recalibrating your battery:
-Recharge your phone,
-Use the phone as you normally do and let it Discharge,
-When it Discharges and Turns off, Recharge it again,
-Do that for 2 days.
Maybe it will work, im not sure try it. But as i see i think that the batteries are weak or something. You know the batteries have some sort of a self remembering method that remembers the usage and Discharging of a battery.

Spotting a weak battery
I found it here.
Cell phone shuts off
If the battery’s capacity has shrunk, it will still read "full" even if there is very little power in it, and the phone will quickly run out of energy and turn off. Or, the phone could be at fault. Borrow a battery from another phone of the same type; if the phone works with the other battery, it’s time for a new battery.
Charge does not last
A cell phone battery should be good for around 24 hours between charges. Dramatically decreasing battery life is a sign of a dying battery.
Swollen battery
Sometimes swelling is visible even with the battery in place. To test for swelling, remove the battery and place it phone side down on a level surface. If it can wobble or spin, it must be replaced or it could begin to leak and damage the phone.
Hard spot
Squeeze a battery along its phone-side edge; if it has a hard spot, replace it.
Visible corrosion
Check the contacts for corrosion or other damage. If this could be a result of water damage, the battery should be replaced as further damage may be hidden inside the battery.
Water damage indicated
Cell phone batteries often have an indicator strip that changes color if water damage has occurred. Some cell phones also have such a strip inside the battery area; know what color the strip should be and what changes indicate damage. Damaged batteries should be replaced.
Excessive heat
If a lithium ion battery gets unusually hot during use or charging, it is getting worn out and should be replaced. Nickel-based batteries normally get hot during charging, so this is not a trouble sign for them.
Hope i helped you.
