Deadbeef - Motorola Droid X2

For those Linux users who may be familiar with, and for those Windows users who may not, Deadbeef-- is available on Android and can be found in the play store.
What is it?
DeaDBeeF (as in 0xDEADBEEF) is an audio player for GNU/Linux, BSD, OpenSolaris and probably other UNIX-like systems.
Description
Player which can play many file formats + online radio (shoutcast)* multiple playlists
* equalizer with 10 bands and presets
* gapless playback
* viewing music file tags and album art
* replaygain
* shuffle tracks and shuffle albums mode
* works with folders
* last.fm scrobbling
* plays many file formats - mp3, ogg, aac/mp4, flac, ape, wv, wav, tta, mpc, sid, mod, s3m, nsf and more
* loads cuesheets
* online streaming radio (shoutcast/icecast)
* full unicode support and charset detection
MAKE SURE TO INSTALL "DeaDBeeF Free Plugins Pack" IF YOU WANT MP3,APE,SID,AAC,MP4,WAV PLAYBACK
http://deadbeef.sourceforge.net/about.html
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.deadbeef.android&hl=en
Why use it?
Ever try to play a wav file or flac in CM7, or stock? Didn't play, did it... So then you search for another player, you find one that CLAIMS to play flac and wav, but when you install--still no love for flac and wav, right? Well, if they don't give you support that ain't native, you ain't gonna hear jack through your jack, Jack. With deadbeef, thanks to its addon package, most any audio file you can imagine can be played. Oh, and then there's the scrobbling and streaming.
Are there other music apps that will successfully hand you support for flac and wav? Yes, there are. I'm pushing this one because the developer is known to me (not on a personal level) through his development for the linux platform. He's always worked hard and for free...and always responsive to support request. I think Alexey deserves some promotion.
This app has a free version and a paid version, the paid version is only one dollar ninety cents.
As Alexey Yakovenko continues to work on this app, it will only get better and better--I highly suggest it.

Checking it out now looks good so far...just no lock screen control or pull down control...but that's not an issue for me

Oo this is fantastic! I have entire discographies I can't play because they're FLAC. Thank you!

It's a young app with room for improvement, that's for sure. The EQ is wonky and like you said, lacks lock screen controls and some other features.
I kinda place this as my *specialty* player right now, using it for my wav and flac files. As it picks up more users (and their inputs), I'm thinking it will mature into a first place player.

Actually someone in the reviews listed the lockscreen widget as one of the good features.

I rather use Power amp.

This program is my default chiptune player. It can play nsf (NES), vgm (Genesis), and spc (SNES) files along with a plethora of other game and computer formats that were before my time. There have been a few progressions in those file types like compression. Vgm has vgz (which is supported), and spc has rsn (which isnt). I could even look past this and the UI issues if the android player supported 7zip.
I usually play more chiptunes than music so having a dedicated player is nice. Modo isnt as good as it's PSP counterpart and Droidsound could use a big update. Currently Deadbeef has a partial feature set in comparison to the desktop version. If compression (and crossing fingers for psf/minipsf) could be added I would purchase this so many times

My fav player, one app for mp3 AND streaming playlist! Just one little cons: no lock screen control

[Q] what audio formats will play on the streak

What audio formats does the Streak play?
I never had so much trouble looking up the answer to such a simple question.
So experimentation shows that it doesn't play lossless wma files.
Is there a lossless format that will play on it?
get PowerAMP it plays plenty of file types:
mp3, mp4/m4a (including alac), ogg, wma*, flac, wav, ape, wv, tta (* some wma pro files may require NEON support)
I love it, it's automated, so when I plug in my headphones (even BT ones) it resumes play.
the basic player is just that, basic.
I'd link it, but I'm new, look it up on appbrain.

Good question. I can only speak for FLAC support as I don't use anything else.
The only Android media player that I know of that recognises FLAC is PowerAMP
http://powerampapp.com/
I second @bugmenotacc's endorsement.
I tried PowerAmp and it didn't play the album I ripped to flac.
I read the help section this morning (amazing what you can learn when you do that) and found out about selecting folders instead of the android library and lo and behold flac files play. Looks like I'll probably end up buying PowerAmp.
Yes it gets a bit confusing, glad you got it sorted too.
I loaded about 6 albums to my sd card today and set Android Settings to pull in the album artwork. Which all happened very quickly and seamlesly.
It is probably old fashioned of me but I prefer to set a Music folder rather than always have the app search my device for files.
Enjoy the app.

[Q] Flac playback on Flayer

Flayers stock music player didn't recognize flac files, and I decided to go for MortPlayer I am using on my Galaxy S. Unfortunately, while Mort did play other music files, it didn't play same flac files it does on Galaxy S. I am even suspecting some system problem with flac playback, but don't have any evidence to support this claim.
As I really love MortPlayer for three major things: flac playback, folder playback and it's free, can anybody recommend working flac player for HTC Flayer, with folder playback if possible?
I found app, name is Player . It is not as polished as Mortplayer, but it does play flac files, and can play everything from specified folder. If somebody a have better suggestion, please share.
PowerAMP hands down is the best music player
AndLess
I use AndLess, simple, and works great! I haven't really tried others so no comments on those.
PowerAmp has some unusuall high cpu usage spikes, it's a bit to shiny for me, and isn't free.
AndLess worked great on my Galaxy S, I like its simple and effective interface. Will try it on Flayer, thx for the tip

Are you kidding me? I even deleted the DSP manager (using CM7 too, latest nightly) after installing jetAudio (I am using it aside BeatsAudio though) It can amplify your music to the limits, add awesome effects, provides it's own unique equaliser... read the description, give it a try and then... post again
btw I'm having issues modifying the apk -> replacing the status icon to complete the beatsAudio mod. After I replace it, I install and execute it and I get the error message: "The application jetAudio (process com.jetappfactory.jetaudio) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." -> Force Close.
Any help on this?
Great player. I've used Jetaudio for years with the Cowon player I bought.
Problem with the free app, is that the sound effects cancel after 20 seconds.
Waiting for the Plus version to be released on Play Store.

If the covers are in the taggs of the MP3's you are playing they should be visible, I'm not experiencing this problem. But I guess it's an early version you gotta give it some time, there will be further improving updates
It's that which is offered to download above. but than a try to find a newer version.

They got a plus version out on the Play store now. But they removed the BBE effects for some reason.
too bad lastfm scrobbling is not supported

.caf == Core Audio Format, is an Apple defined media container that can hold a variety of audio and/or video encoded content.
Try MX Player, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad&hl=en
or Mobo Video Player Pro, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobo.video.player.pro&hl=en
Thanks MX player did the trick. Its annoying though i have many "good" music players such as poweramp and all could not play the .caf file which is very dissapointing.

I agree. I really don't know why Apple thought we needed yet another container format when there are already so many out there, unless it was to try to play the vendor lock-in game
iPhone doesn't support playing CAF files.
To play CAF on iPhone, I use a software named Faasoft Audio Converter to convert CAF to MP3, AAC, AC3, etc.

[Q] Recommendations for a music player

Hi all,
I have an extensive music library - and I'm currently using both Play Music and the default Music app to play the songs.
However it appears that no matter what settings I choose, whether I skip songs or not, both apps with only choose certain songs to play out of the 500 or so I have stored on my SD card.
Do you have recommendations on a good music player (prefer only music as don't watch videos) that doesn't just have a set list of tracks but actually shuffles when it says it is.
Thanks,
Linz.
Poweramp is pretty good but you would have to pay for it
yup, PowerAMP rocks!
there are music players like PowerAmp, N7player, PlayerPro, etc... all have trial versions, maybe you should try these and decide by yourself.

im more of a clean design guy with a serious music library ocd,
always used shuttle+ since it keeps my library sorted with artist and album pictures, its latest beta gives it a more material design feel, and has never let me down.
On the 'free' front, I have used Vanilla Player and would recommend it. It's very capable of handling large number of files, and playlists.
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=ch.blinkenlights.android.vanilla

On the 'paid' front, PowerAmp seems very popular. Personally, I have used 'Gone Mad Music Player' and found it very capable too of handling large number of files & playlists.

Both of these players support ReplayGain, which was an important feature for me.
