[Q] usb 3g for htc flyer? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hi,
I have a wifi only htc flyer and would like to check if anyone has been able to get a usb 3g stick running on their htc flyer?
Thanks,
Kim

Not 100% positive, but the answer is most likely no. Some time ago, i bought an adapter to plug my flash drive in. After a bit of research, it seems the flyer doesn't give off enough power to the usb port, therefore can't power a device attached to it. There might be a way to do it, not sure though.
Hope this helps

USB Host is supported! You have to use an external powered USB hub though and then connect everything to it. I have pictures of how I found it works here:
http://imageshack.us/g/824/gedc0010w.jpg/
So all we need is drivers and 3G support

I know that HC 3.1 supported USB hosts, but like i said, the flyer can't power the device by itself, you need an external power source, thats kind of an effort when you not at home. But good find

? My USB Hub is powered from my PSP charger! The Hub takes 5V and uses the same plug as the PSP.. I have an Idea! It's not Ideal but... Connect the USB Hub to the power pack with the PSP cable, Connect the Hub to the Flyer using a Mini USB cable and a USB Host cable! Et voila, Portable powered hub

I am also interested in this. As an experiment,I have ordered a cheap 3g router. One of the big questions is if it will support any of my usb modems.

Yes. It's called USB OTG (on the go).
Yep, see it demoed here. Unknown how wide the host support will be (will it include keyboard/mouse/gamepad etc).
Wow! That's really cool, thanks for the answer
Just curious... does Sensation also have this?

dunno if this has been asked before but i thought that this is the place to ask it.
since the phone has USB-otg could we use a mini usb to usb adapter or to we have to buy the samsung one?
The big question is if it is feasible somehow to read/write NFTS or at least EXT2-3-4 partitions! It would be great to be able to manipulate files on a 2.5" external HDD.
No, it can't read'write NFTS, but it works fine with large drives that are Fat32 formatted. Read my thread in the accessories forum for lots of information on USB OTG.
Where can we get the USB adapter for cheapest ?
There is even USB host support for your HD2. Trouble is usually you need an externally powered hub, as the phone can't supply enough power (or not for long) to power the USB device.
A microUSB plug to USB A jack is easy on ebay for like 2 bucks?
I got this one, works like a charm: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004TJC1IM
USB OTG has a floating (grounded) 5th pin on the microUSB connector to tell the host it's an OTG cable. Does anybody know the pin out of the microUSB plug?

[Q] Help! Micro USB to HDMI on HTC Amaze

I recently purchased a "ikross USB to HDMI" adapter on amazon, supposedly supported by the HTC Amaze. However, when i plug the adapter in connected to my TV(s), nothing happens on the phone or tv.
Im guessing I need some kind of 'drivers' on the phone to enable this feature.
Also, my problem might be stemming from the fact that i am running Beastmod v2.2.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for these adapters?
Thanks
I don't believe you purchased the rite thing, I was reading and interested in running hdmi from my amaze, I have read most places you need to purchase an MHL converter, that's why the plug on the phone is the funny square shape

Mhl uses micro USB, so you don't need a special port on the adapter.
My guess for op is that it might be the ROM. I use bullet proof, and my Mhl to hdmi adapter works fine.
Final, try making a backup of your current ROM, flash a ROM with sense, and try again.
Edit: Also, this should be in accessories

Huh I figured cause if you look in the port beyond the USB there are other pins I figured it requires a special plug to reach those pins

The port on the Amaze is a proprietary HTC design, called EXTUSB. It allows the device to get more power while charging, but it is also backwards compatible with microusb cables.

I got one of those, and it works IF you also plug a USB charging cable separately into the adapter - thanks for the stupid design HTC.
In order to do the hdmi out can you use a miniusb or does the adapter have to have the extusb?
Edit:
Also if I am reading this right you need a TV with the MHL chip in it for this to work:

I'm confused, where are you plugging it into on the phone? Does microhdmi fit in the extusb port?

All wrong. A simple Google will show you that EXTUSB was the port HTC used in the days of the T-Mo Wing, G1, and myTouch 3G.
The miniHDMI connector does NOT fit the Amaze. I wish I knew what our port was called... I'll report in if I can find it. But I know it's not EXTUSB
I recently bought Cable Matters Micro USB to HDMI MHL Adapter from Amazon. I have had success using it on stock phone, quicksense v3.0.0 and currently beastmod 2.3.0.
Just to set the record clear. The port on the Amaze 4G is called an MHL connector. It's not a proprietary HTC port, but a seemingly new industry standard. Just search wikipedia for MHL and you can read all about it.
Punchline is that you get a single port that can output HDMI and connect via USB in one go. Supposedly with the proper adapter your phone will charge while connected to an HDMI source. You can definitely use a standard micro USB cable on the MHL port if you just need to charge or connect to a computer via USB.
The one I bought, the power cable must be attached.

That's what Mr. Moo is getting at. MHL ports allows simultaneous output and charging; though I'm not sure they both need to be connected for either to work.
In my experience, the MHL with power connected doesn't really charge the phone. My battery still drains slowly while connected. Is that just me?

HTC calls the port ExtMicro USB. It's backwards compatible with Micro-USB plugs (the five leads on the flange you see on the front), but the proprietary plug has 12 pins total.
I was getting intermittent performance with a Micro-USB MHL-HDMI adapter, and had to have a Micro-USB charger attached.
The HTC adapter for the Amaze (and Flyer, and Rezound) is AC-M500, a 12-pin adapter with HDMI-out, Audio-out (3.5mm) and an ExtMicro USB port. I have pics of these on WikiMedia, and in a thread in the Rezound section.
I wish I could tell you what the 7 additional leads do that a conventional MHL-HDMI adapter doesn't ... and HTC isn't talking. (US Tech Support couldn't even confirm the that the port is different, only the recommended adapter.) aLogCat recorded some HDCP messages when I connected the phone with this adapter to a Dell ST2410 24" monitor that's been reported for not supporting HDCP-controlled HDMI video. When I connected my Amaze to a Samsung T27A300 1080P HDTV, it worked fine.

I have same trouble last week. I bought a "usb to hdmi adapter" from Amazon as a cheap price last month. But it can't work. So last week , i got a new hdmi adapter from Hdgenius .Finally it is OK and can work normally. So maybe you can learn from me and get another new hdmi adapter to have a test.

flyer exceeded power limts of usb port... cannot connect to pc!!!!

after updating to honeycomb... when i connect to PC(i have a dell XPS) i get a error message "the device has exceeded the power limits of the port" with a cross sign so i cant connect to PC this happens when i use normal usb ports of my laptop....however i am able to connect my flyer using esata port of my XPS.
this is not good as i don't have a esata port in my other old laptop and desktop where also i want to connect my flyer....
i am using default cable and using stock HC official one...
please help if there is a solution to this!!!! thanx in advance
i tried changing connection mode from charge only to htc sync and other options... nothing worked... this was happening from 1st day bt i never gave attention coz eSATA port was working but now i want to connect to other device running out of ideas...
try using a standard microusb cable rather than the flyer one.
That esata port you're using is a dual-mode port. Basically, it's 1 hole w/ both esata and USB pins inside. I'm guessing though it must have higher power ability (1A probably) which is why it works better.
Using the stock cable, the flyer is trying to charge and pulling too much power from the USB port. Normal USB is limited to 500ma, but the flyer *can* draw around three times that. A normal microUSB cable will let you connect for sync/data purposes but the flyer will know it's just a data connection and not try to charge over it.

[Found] OTG hard Drive

Today, a friend asked if I had an extra laptop. He needed one for his 10 year old son.
While rummaging through my closet (you know, the one with all the old computers, shotguns, and half empty Jack Daniels bottles) when I found one of these.
Two Pics … http://db.tt/GY4wfof6 and http://db.tt/rzkodoMi
Now, I have no idea as to how, where or when I got this. I had to search the net to even know what it was.
Ebay link … http://www.ebay.com/itm/230328510631?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648
Continuing my search of the closet I also found a 2.5 inch 160 gig IDE hard drive. Assembled the two and I now have a portable battery powered drive that works great with my Flyer.
That looks kinda old school. =)
So you connect to the flyer via bluetooth or microUSB?
It connects with microUSB.
Now that I’ve had a chance to use it a while I’ve found I can set its switch to PC or DC.
When set to PC I just plug it in to my Flyer and can copy files both ways.
When set to DC it will function as a standalone unit (because it has its own battery power). I can plug thumb drives and USB sdcard adaptors into it to move files both ways.
It will even plug into my camera and copy the pictures.
Kind of handy as the Flyer doesn’t supply power at its microUSB port to spin a hard drive.
It’s not what I call well built but seems to work.
At least it does the job! I didn't know we could use OTG harddrive for the flyer...
That's very cool. Vastly increases the number of movies I could take with me on a long trip!

Ok so spent about £40 on one of these and it doesn't work with my Flyer(32GB WiFi 3G). Flyer is not rooted and running the latest official version of HC. I have tried both DC and PC but device still does not detect the OTG drive. My samsung mobile finds the device fine.
Are you using a standard micro usb cable ??

Yes using a standard micro usb cable
Try this ... Shut down your Flyer (make sure Fast Boot is unchecked in settings) then turn on your drive in DC mode and restart your Flyer.
Your Flyer should find it then and will work from then on.
Using your file explorer of choice you should see a new folder called USB
Hi, tried this but still no go. Ran a USB host and USB OGB diganostics app which still fail to detect the device. The drive works with my camera/Samsung phone and brothers PSP. May have to fork out for WIFI drive.
Still no go with the OTG device. Tried with a friends Flyer and same results. I am going to try this device, is fairly cheap.

I have an OTG cable from my samsung but this did not work. what OTG cable are you using? I gather you are connecting the USB device into the OTG cable via a powered hub?
Got it working but it's a hackjob, was going to root but having to downgrade then upgrade again was a pain and was not guaranteed to work. Tried running the OTG cable into a powered hub but for what ever reason would always come up USB device not recognised when plugging in any memory device. Tried 3 USB hubs with the same result. Ended up cutting up an OTG cable and a few other USB cables so I could provide power to the device and then power to the tablet as well. For whatever reason i need to provide power to he memory stick before plugging into tablet. I have tested 4 different memory pens and 1 external harddrive and they all work.
I just bought a generic OTG cable, its about 6 inches long. I think it may have come from HP. I have used both a powered hub and a y-usb hard drive cable and both worked for me.
You have to have power on the device before you plug it onto the FLyer so that on connect the Flyer software knows what type of device it is and can load the driver. Otherwise the Flyer will label it unknown and disable the device.
Managed to get USB on the go to work on my Jetstream. See the following post. as the flyer very similar, should work for flyer too.

Does your adapter allow for power to be supplied to the device? What type of USB peripheral are you trying to connect?
There's a lot of OTG related information available in this thread.

I think that you need to have external power source. I tried with only OTG adapter but it havent worked. But when i connected external power source (USB) It worked like a charm.
No power supply, its a simple otg cable and what I'm trying to connect is simple 2gig flash drive. And I think I looked through that thread. So you think I need to modify my cable ,is it the only way?

You have to supply power either from a powered USB hub or an OTG adapter like this one that allows you to use your HTC charger in order to use flash drives and portable hard drives, or any other USB peripheral that requires power.
ramjet73
Well with the power supply it looses its portability. :/
Guess I will have to solder an otg cable with attached battery to it ,or even put it all in a little box so there isn't wires everywhere.Cause I saw a video on youtube with a guy who had attached another HTC battery to the adapter.
So basically its explained as EVO doesn't give out enough power to run the device?

Yes. Unlike some of the Samsung Galaxy models the Evo 3D wasn't designed to support OTG.
