Poweramp multitasking - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Everytime I use Poweramp and, for instance, start using the browser, eventually it turns off. I've tried playing with the settings but didn't have any luck. Is anyone having this problem or knows a solution for this?
Another niggle I'm having is related to the volume rocker being unable to change music in longpress.
Thanks in advance.

Settings, Audio Engine, Advanced Tweaks - Enable Keep Service and Audio Thread Priority too 2.
Never had that problem before with these settings..
As for volume rocker changing songs.. Volume Rocker only changes the volume afaik
My name is Optimus Prime and I send this message..

Thank you so much, the audio thread priority did the trick for me
As for the volume rocker, I used to be able to change track on my old HTC hero. Very useful when I was driving. Anyway, it's just a minor annoyance.

On the Sammy's they only change volume, though give it a couple of months and someone will have come up with a mod to enable long press to change track (just as they did on the S II).

Cheers - had 3 of these cut offs in a 40 minute walk home this evening and it was driving me mad - hopefully that'll do the trick..

Unfortunately, I'm also having problems again. Strangely enough, it seemed to work for a certain amount of days, guess I wasn't running that many apps aside from the browser and poweramp, so it didn't trigger this behavior.
Meanwhile I changed from stock rom to Omega 6.0, but it shouldn't it have anything to do with the problem, right?

Ringer/notification volume changing on its own?

OK I have been having issues with my ringer and notification volume.
I can have it set to full volume and I miss calls or messages because the volume changes to the lowest setting or silent.
Any ideas on why this would happen?
A lot of people are having this issue, and, it is listed in the issue thread. The only 2 things we have come up with is that it is a software problem, or people are accidently pushing the rockers, and the phone is acting as if it is awake registering the action.

I am going with software. I am also trying turning off the special features like pocket mode and quiet on pickup to see if that helps.
i haven't had this problem yet, but i DO have the problem of system volume continuously making itself 100% lol..thankfully though i don't use anything that uses system volume, so nothing is blaring loud and scaring the crap outta me.

Well, you didn't specify it wasn't in your pocket or what not.
Turning off those features might help. Isn't there a setting that sets the volumes to be what they were on previous use? For example if you pick up the phone and the volume goes down, maybe it sticks like that? Doesn't explain it going to 100% though.
Ok here is my biggest issue that I have found. I use alarmdroid to wake me up and for other routine alarms. I have it connected to beautiful Widgets so when I press the time it opens alarmdroid. When I go in to the app, then exit, it changes my alarm volume to zero. I also use the app volume locker so I know when it is changing settings on me. I have successfully recreated this problem numerous times. Anyone else with this combination of apps experience this? How about with just alarmdroid?

I use plain old Sense clock and alarm.
Sense alarm rocks. It's easy, and wakes me up every time with its annoying ass beeping. I hate alarm clocks. I hate waking up, period.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
I 100% believe that I accidentally hit the volume rocker and so I downloaded volume locker and I have not had any volume issues since!!
I would use sense alarm, but I usually run sensless ROMs. So I like to keep things similar. Anyone else use alarmdroid? Anyone care to try it and see if they can duplicate the problem?

It happened to me a couple times and then one time I noticed that the way I was holding the phone when I woke it up or turned it "off" was applying pressure to the volume rocker and changing the volume. It happened so quick I barely noticed it, just saw a blip at the top of the screen once and figured out what it was.
I think changing those settings helped. I will keep checking on it though.

[Q] Odd unstable volume problem

Hi,
I searched for this and can't find anything on it. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem.
When using the FM radio the range of volume that the volume slider/buttons controls isn't always the same. Sometime when a message comes in and a notification plays the volume will jump up. I've tried to use the sound controls in settings to replicate this but it won't do it.
Co-incidentally, receiving messages while the radio is on also sometimes results in the tuned frequency to change :-S

This sounds like a software conflict seen this on the mini pro many times.
some apps or rom features change the volume when notifications come in... this screws with other settings put into place by other apps.
There should be "hopefully" a setting to disable this volume change in the rom.
Also please post in Q&A for future questions. Thanks

[Q] CM7 volume increments to big

SOLUTION FOUND - TESTING -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411317
I'll provide a better tutorial for those interested when im done testing it ;-) seems i can build a custom Framework.jar with edited volume increments.
I'm running cm7 from cm9, I listen to alot of music during the day and night but I find the volumes at the high end of the range perfect but the volumes down the low end to stark.
The gaps between 0 and 1 is no sound and then considerably loud in a quiet environment, is this a kernel related volume incriment or set by the code in cm7 somewhere?
I can't find an app to add what I'd call analouge volume control ( finer increments in DB from 0 to MAX)
Any ideas guys?

not to threadjack but how do you even use the high volume? at a volume level of 1 with my TripleFi 10 Pros is as loud as I wanna get.
I plug my SGS2 into the car and I can't go anywhere above 1/4. It's as loud as my Nexus S on FULL, and same with my iPod touch. the sound output is ridiculously loud.

This is a well known (and annoying because I use a rom that's a CM derivative) issue. I've learned to live with it & don't really want to run a standalone app just to give me fine control of volume levels, however, I found this on my travels recently. I haven't tried it, but this might be a good starting point for apps to try.

Nice find I tried about 8 apps last night, also considered a voodoo sound esque fix but we know the sgs2 has not got the correct hardware.
unless there is a voodoo sound kernel for cm7 out there but all kernels I try with cm7 give me a corrupt boot to the boot logo and then crashes and I have to hard reset.
CM7 is horrid for 3rd party Kernel support.

Since I started using the app in my sig, I only need volume on around 25-30% thru in-ears. Before that I'd have it on 80% or so. SGS2 (maybe not all, could be manufacturing variations .
Thats what i see manufacture variations .
Stock phone stock headphones no sound change apps volume level at 50% is far to high on my phone . Its an original day one released phone .

Supercurio has released Voodoo Louder for SGS2 which also boosts headphone/headset volume (by 6dB), but it doesn't give you that fine volume control.
And as JJE said in his post, with the experiences reported by SGS2 owners on here, this volume issue would appear to be a manufacture issue/dependent on which 'batch' your phone came from.

I'd like to call that unreliable information, as I never had this issue with Cognation ROM, its only become a issue with the Current CM7.1.
I'd take a look into this but I have no experience into editing the android system short of using command sin Terminal Emulator and ADB.
There must be a scale somewhere that relates to the number of volume increments and the DB output, after all there is a law regarding maximum volumes of devices in the EU and OEM's adjust there in their hardware dependant on Region, so the DB values can be adjusted some how, I just need to know where i can find it.
EDIT : This works on some handsets not my SGS2 !
Dial in *#*#197328640#*#*
Next, tap your finger onto the following, in the following order:
[5] Audio
[1] Handset
[1] Volume
[1] SRS Speech RX Volume
next notice the following defaults that pop up.
[0]0_lvl:63
[1]1_lvl:68
[2]2_lvl:73
[3]3_lvl:78
[4]4_lvl:83
[5]5_lvl:88
This basically means, that your volume up and down keys have 5 clicks, starting from the lowest setting, and click your volume up 5 times, takes you through the sequence of volumes listed above. You can change each click to be a new volume setting. For me 1-4 are fine, I just wanted max volume, which is click number 5, to be something higher. The phone does not let you to put in half increments, meaning 88.5 is not possible. So you have to use increments of 1. Please please do this carefully, dont suddenly jump to 95, you could blow out your speaker possibly. So I tried just 1 increment above 88, went to 89, and perfect, much louder now! okay so this is how you do it:
Once you get the list above, do the following:
Click your finger on [5]5_lvl:88
Next, a screen pops up asking for input. On the bottom of your phone, tap the menu button, this is the button next to the little home button.
Next tap "key input"
Next tap 1 increment at a time, lets start off with 89 so where it says enter value, tap this, your keyboard pops up, type in 89
Next Tap your menu button again
Next Tap "end"
you are now finished, make a phone call and see how 89 works for you, when your volume is set to max
Remember this volume adjustment seems to reset after you reboot the phone. Some people online are saying you can also make the volume higher by playing with the hearing aid settings, I personally haven't tried this yet.

You can call the volume loudness issue anything you want. But given the experiences of people who have posted here over the past however many months, that is what these experiences suggest.
This is what JJE & I were talking about when we mentioned the manufacture thing.
Not the fine volume issue.
Indeed, that seems to be prevalent on CM based roms. I don't recall having any problems increasing volume in small increments for the < 1 week I ran stock firmware on my phone after I bought it.
As I've said, it's not a big enough deal for me to use a standalone app, so it's definitely not a big enough deal for me to muck around with dialer codes. I saw these codes months ago before I even bought my phone, and never bothered with them. The fine volume control doesn't really bother me, I just thought I'd reply to you OP given you were after an app that enables same, and I'd found the app I gave you a link to recently.

That app did nothing, I used it and it gave me the same options as DSP gives you from CM.
The not high enough volume issue can easily be solved in CM7 but comment about that has hijacked my thread, im looking into how we can edit the fine volume adjustment or edit the increments to go from MAX to MIN volume.
Service codes don't appear to work on my handset ( CM related ? ) but I believe the service mode is built into the framework.

SGS3 on Silent, still playing a sound?

This might seem like a silly question...
However:
On my S1, when I hit silent or vibration only, when an email arrives, the S1 doesn't make a noise (or vibrates) ie. the notification (like Haze) doesn't play.
yet on the S3, no matter what I do, be it on silent, vibration or what not, the sound STILL plays.
Am I becoming crazy or did samsung just overlook an important bug?
-Chris
Did you check all the volume levels?
(Hit the button on the right side when you turn up / down the volume),
I've noticed that (At least in TouchWiz), the media and notification volumes don't always get lowered when you put it on silent.
Also check "System Settings -> Sound" to see if there's anything that would indicate that it should play a sound while in silent mode.
Confirmed, put phone on silent. Started a video, there was sound.
This sucks.

that's not the point of the button that you press for silent.
Or else what would be the point of the button, when i have to manually do it myself?
I'll log this and get back to you.
I don't know about you, but that seems normal, coming from ICS from SGS2 and iPhone, silent means alerts/notifications is off. But when you play Music or Youtube or Videos will play the sound, if you're actively trying to play media then it makes sense to play sound.
Android has always (except for a brief spell) had separate volumes for ringers, media and alarms

But when a SMS is received, on an s2, and you have it on SILENT what happens?
Does the notification sound still play?
As on the S1...and pretty much any phone dating back to the 3310, it remains SILENT
I've noticed this issue also. Silent mode doesn't mute the notification volume as it should. The temporary work around is to set volume manually, but it seems it is a bug in the Touchwiz UX framework.
I for one can't wait until I get either stock ICS or CM9 (maybe JB or CM10 soon if we're lucky, the source was recently released). These little issues are resolved very quickly in a community developed ROM (less than a week in most cases). There is usually a wait of months for OTA updates.
I just pray that AdamOutler can crack the verizon GS3 bootloader to allow easy customization. The International, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint users have unlocked/unsigned bootloaders.
Grab audio manager on google play
Then you set the mute profile for all the sounds you want (ringtone, notifications, player,...) and then you add the widget to your homescreen
When you want to mute, just "click" on the widget, got to the profile tab and then select your mute profile

What firmware would that be, out of curiosity? I'm running XXLFB based ROM and it's still not fixed, been driving me insane.
Not sure this helps if you've already got it fixed but I've been using RealSilent ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.geekherd.realsilent ) as recommended by Jerry over at AC. Pretty handy, but not sure how it works with the stock silent toggle in the notification pull down.
It does however work perfectly with CM9.

Isn't that app for the media volume, not notification?
I thought CM9 came with an option to link notification volume with ringer, so that notification on silent is no longer an issue purely because of that.
Maybe I will try a LG1 based ROM... can't believe Samsung overlooked something so basic.

After trying about 5 different apps including volume +, finally found a straightforward workaround, use the app called simple sound profile widget:
I can't post links yet since I'm under 10 posts, so search for it on Google play.
Really the issue is that Samsung unlinked notification and ringer, but left vibrate and silent toggle alone, so all it does is mute the ringer and not the notification. You'll notice on silent or vibrate, go to system volume and ringer volume still stays the same but shows a mute icon, while notifications volume does not. To fix this you need an app that, when toggling profiles, does not assume ringer and notifications are linked, and also TURNS DOWN VOLUME TO ZERO for both notification and ringer, as I don't believe mute for notifications is working. Simple sound does exactly that, the only thing missing is a true toggle widget since you have to click the widget then select a profile, but it fixed the notification issue properly so I'm not complaining.

Question Is there a quick way to silence P6?

Hi everyone,
I'm a bit more than a week in with the Pixel 6, coming from a phone that has an actual hardware ring/vibrate/silent switch. I miss that switch dearly.
Is there a fast way to silence the Pixel 6? I'm aware you can press the volume key, then choose the "silent" icon, but that takes some time/fiddling, and it DOESN'T SILENCE THE PHONE. Only silences notifications/rings. My old phone when silenced also silenced media, everything except alarms.
Invariably I'm doing something at the table or whatever and an ad comes on at volume. Sure, I can hold the volume down key, but it takes a bit for that to gradually silence the media.
What I want is to be able to double tap the volume control or something similarly fast and have it instantly silence everything (except alarms), similar to how the physical sound off switch worked on my OP6T.
Is there a solution for this? I'm fully stock, not rooted, not planning to root.

Settings > System > Rules. Enable and use the "silence phone" rule. It's location-dependant so there is no toggle like what you are used to.
EDIT: For finer control than what Google provides, Tasker or a similar app should work for you.

Hmm. I'm not sure I understand how this is supposed to work. I don't want the rule to start when I reach a location or connect to a network, I just want to be able to quickly tell the phone to silence all sounds (other than alarms of course) at specific times like if I see an ad loading up. And I would want to be able to undo the silencing quickly too.
I went into the rules and tried enabling, but it's all about doing things when I reach a location/wifi spot.
I did double check my gesture settings, to make sure the Flip to Shhh was on... it is... I Think the shushing just applies to notifications and ringing, not media (ad sounds are controlled via media sound level).
