is there screen lock app? NOT a lock screen app - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

You know how some electronics have a physical lock switch to turn off all buttons and screen input. Is there such an Android app that would give me the option of assigning a button.. maybe a long hold on volume down or up that would lock all input out? Just would be nice when I'm jogging with music or watching a video . there's gotta be something but I'm not finding anything...

Ok. So you want an app who locks the screen while you watch a video, for example. There's no app for this function. But, if u want to lock the screen while you watch a video, try MX Player. The app Blocks the screen while u watching!

Yeah that option in mx player is great. Just wish it was a option in android..... Imagine holding the power button down..and when it brings up the options to shut down..restart.... Silent mode... There was also another selection to lock device.... Sounds like a great option..... Yeah?

Just curious.. What possible effect would that app have..
Not that its a bad idea.. I've already started searching the market for an app like that...
Tasker would be good app... Yes??
But in your case what are the probability that the screen will come on..
If its in ur pocket.. You'll first have to do really well to Press the Power button and even then it will only go to the lockscreen.. And some even if it unlocks only then some problem will occur..
Sad thing is it happens to me sometimes..
Keep this thread alive.. There's gotta be some solution
Cheers

For me it would most be when I'm running.. I like to look at my pace occasionally.. if screen times out I gotta hit power/unlock then be careful I don't touch the screen and pause my run or do something.. Also music and vids(netflix).. or if I hand my phone to someone to watch a video or picture I took or to look at something.. when handing it over they always tend to touch the screen and pause or scrub the video.. especially grandma!

App to lock: Touch Screen & Home Button for a 2 year old

Hi,
i have 2 year old kid he loves to watch cartoons or videos.
Is there any which blocks the touch and home button. On the iphone there was a application like Incarcer where you had to press volume and down to enable home and touch again.
Is there anything similar for an android phone. Got a galaxy s1 9100 and galaxy s 9000
Thanks.
If you want to stop your Kid from accidently making changes to your phone...This helped me a lot...

thanks but this is no use to me. I want him not to turn of the videos iam playing for them. At least he sits quite for a while when he watches some cartoons/videos. As you know they like to press the home button which closes the application like you tube or gallery. Also the touch screen which pauses the video. Need something which can prevent it
iphone had the tool called incarcer from cydia.

locking screen while viewing

Is there a way to lock the screen (disable touch) while viewing saw a movie on the tab? This way if i move the tab the movie continues to play in full screen mode and nothing responds to my touches on the tab. I figure some form of power button enable/disable option would work.
thanks in advance.
I've never seen this option put in any power button settings before, but its something to look into.
Mobo player have an option to lock the screen(using menu button) while watching videos.

Thanks...unfortunately this is mainly because I stream allot. So it must be able to control the hardware itself not just the app.

EVO days (likes and dislikes)

I will start since I couldn't find it anywhere.
I like its bigger that's better for my huge hands.
I dislike its feels like I could crush it with my huge hands.

I don't know if its because of how big it is or how thin it is, but I feel like I'm going to drop it when typing and holding with one hand. Original Evo felt better.

The one thing that is absolutely bugging the crap out of me thus far is the notification volume...you can't adjust it separately from the ringtone volume...I dont like my notifications to be as loud as the ring tone personally....
Also I left mine on connected to wifi with screen off over night, and when I turned the screen on I showed the unit had turned off data connections, and once the screen turned on the wifi connection then turned on and connected and got all emails sent over night...
though there is no power settings menu like the 3D had, that ive seen so far...
I miss the search button and HATE that the back button is on the left side and I can't reach it while holding the phone in my right hand.

I agree with the notification/ringtone volume. Seperate volumes is a must. As far as your WiFi turning off, if you go into WiFi settings, hit the menu button in the top right, then advanced, and change the WiFi sleep policy to always on.
Can't wait to get CM9 on this thing.

I used Volume Toggle (Free) from the play store to manage the 6 different volumes on my Android devices. It's a great app, you should check it out.

You should try THIS out for us
I think the lack of a hardware Menu button was a catastrophic failure on HTC's part.
Most apps haven't caught up to the "ICS standards", and so on apps like GoLauncher EX, you have that gawd awful "Menu button bar" at the bottom, covering 1/10th of the screen.
I genuinely don't understand how they could prioritize a Task Manager button over the Menu button... :\ Especially seeing as how leaving the Home button pressed down used to perform the same function on the old Evo...

I agree it is very annoying but if the evo lte is a huge success (if sprint every gets the ball rolling) then app devs will be more likely to update to ics standards. If every phone just included a menu button (sIII for example) then they would have no reason to care and update it.

Ha duh! Thanks.....
Edit:
......odd it shows "always" being the selected value under the sleep policy for it....so it shouldn't of turned off to begin with...have to keep an eye on this now...

the weight is a little light for me but i do have a 9 inch span on my hands lol. this also doesnt make the backj button a problem.. doesnt hurt i have double jointed thumbs either lol. I find myself using the multi task button a lot.. the biggest problem im having getting used to is using the menu bar button instead of hitting home button on the phone
Eventually most if not all apps will be updated to play nice with ICS and include the menu button onscreen. They officially have 2 years starting now.

That's how it is for me in Handcent. I'm constantly hitting the menu button instead of the space bar
I think my biggest gripe right now is the font scaling. For things like the desktop widgets 4x4 takes the entire HUGE screen. I should be able to see enough of my daily calendar as well as something else without taking the entire screen....this is a 720p display after all.
I want a half-screen ubersocial widget where I can actually see 4 or so tweets

buttons
The buttons are super easy to press... I find it's really awkward when I'm holding the device and trying to text or something (especially with one hand) I almost always push some of the buttons on accident... maybe I just need time to adjust.
I also REALLY wish the power charging port was on the bottom of the device. I *hate* having it on the side, makes no sense.

I actually love the charging port on the side. The port on the bottom always got in the way when usuing a phone in landscape. The charging port is completely out of the way now, landscape or not.
Starting to miss Search button.
Camera pictures are great I can just hold button forever until I hit the right shot, and it even suggest best pic.

Gestures whilst screen is off (alternative to volume buttons/keys)

In theory it would seem possible as the capacitive screen is "always listening" (ie as with the knock-on feature) you could create custom gestures that an app could listen to and perform tasks. For instance, I would like a gesture where you swipe your finger up the screen to turn the volume up, or down to turn it down.
Is this technically possible? Does anyone know of an app/hack to get such a thing working? Personally I find the back-button placement a bit fiddly and find that touching the camera lens is often the case as oppose to just wanting to turn the volume up

Does that work with the screen off? I can see no mention of it on the play store details page.
Interesting idea. There are alternative methods of turning your phone on though. There are shake on apps you could try to see how you like. I use a shake off app that I love. Just doing a quick shake when I'm done with the phone is just extremely convenient. Its one of the apps that I make sure to install first thing.
If you do find a gesture app that can work with the screen off that doesn't eat the battery like little shop of horrors, let us know.

Question Hey google not responding with screen off or locked?

Hey google not responding with screen off or locked?
Tried enabling in the settings, still only works when phone is active?.
I have same problem ... It works only on lock screen, not when screen is black. So for example if I have accident and cannot move my arms, then I cannot use assistant to call for help, because I need to push power button (or double tap screen) first . This is very sad, just imagine how many people dieded because they could not call for help .
LOL, im sure it will get fixed, glad its just not me.
Did they remove the BOOST charge option for you to?

In charge setting there was an option called BOOST MODE, i was getting 18 min charge with it on, now its 21-22 mins, not a big difference really, just wondered where it went.

A neat workaround is if you have a smartwatch, it still works on that.
