Ok let me start my sad story. Months ago i upgraded to ICS and all was fine untill the phone started giving me that error " charging paused voltage to high". I used my nandroid to go back to GB and it was the same. Since then i changed Ics versions, now im on Cm9. I used contact cleaner spray and it actually worked for a few days. Then i got the problem again. In the last month there was no more "voltage to high" error but the phone was not charging anymore, usb or ac, unless i reboot the device. Then it says its charging but it doesnt say USB or AC, just charging. And today it stopped charging period. No matter if i reboot or not. The thing is that i bet you will all say its the USB port, and i might agree but if the micro usb port is broken tell me why odin recognize the device instantly in download mode and flashing goes smooth or why when i use my USB OTG cable my flash drive connects flawlessly and the copy operation runs perfectly? I dont get it, thats why i need help because i love my Sgs2. If there are other threads i appologize but im a seaman and im sailing alot hence my online time is either very limited or expensive.

Obviously a problem with the charging circuitry. You can replace the board yourself apparently (not something I'd try), you can send it in for warranty repair or a local non-Samsung authorised repair shop should be able to repair it fairly quickly I would have thought. We see this problem on here all the time.
You could always try another battery and/or charger if you still think it isn't this problem. If you do have the same issue with a new battery/charger, then it's definitely the problem.
You've done everything you possibly can to rule a hardware issue in/out (you've gone back to stock, back to GB, cleaned the contacts), there isn't a great deal more you can do other than the above.

Has anyone had this problem?
After three trouble free months, my phone has developed a a very strange problem.
After charging, it behaves as if I'm constantly connecting and disconnecting the phone to a PC. It bleeps whilst showing the battery being connected to a charger and then imidiatly acts like its been disconnected by bleeping and running media scanner on both SD cards. It also shows that its connected via Kies, even though all this is happening whilst only being connected to a charger!
I've already done a full reset, which helped for a few days before it came back. It normally sorts itself out after a few minutes but the period before it "calms down" is getting longer. This morning I removed the battery for an hour but it continued in its "loop". Another, possibly related symptom is that as soon as the battery is installed, the phone boots up without being switched on. The same thing happens if I shut the phone down, it just powers up again!
Any thoughts?
had you if ever dip the bottom part of your phone? sounds like short-circuit issue or I maybe wrong.. try bringing in on to the nearest service center for warranty
Sounds a plausible theory but as far as I can tell, it hasn't got wet. Its been doing it for a few day now, so I think if it was damp, it would have dried out by now.

my friend had a simmilar issue and it was damage to the usb port , it kept thinking it was connecting to the pc or charger , it also wouldnt charge when plugged into a wall point and went into usb mode and vice versa when he put it into a pc
he sent it back for repair and they sent him a new phone
it may not be what you have but it does sound simmilar
i would try a few things like a reset , format the mass memory , install firmware again , dont restore back ups but set phone up fresh like you would do if you just bought it , then see how it goes , it could just be a corrupted file or system error that could be fixed bya full wipe and fresh install or it could be like my friends and the usb could be on the way out
on the topic of usb ports i do think they could have been better designed and iam hoping mine doesnt break as its needed for hdmi out , charging , docks , etc etc

As a follow up, I put the battery back in after taking it our for about 3hrs and all seams fine. I know that it isn't a permanent fix but I think it points more to software than hardware, which in a way is more annoying as its all about trial and error, as you described. A mechanical fault is more straight forward.
I just dread having to charge it again!

Charged it overnight and no problems when disconnecting it this morning. So far!
If anything, the battery life it better than before the problems. The fact that removing the battery for 3hrs broke the cycle of connect/disconnect, makes me think its soft/firmware related.

Ok. Had GS2 5 months, been no bother , had several different roms and last rom was Criseklo v38. Plugged phone into charger and nothing happened
Tried several chargers nothing. Waited about 40 secs with charger in and suddenly the phone tells me its charging... odd but ok. left phone to charge well left it half an hour unplugged charger it read 92% but upon unplugging charger the phone read it was still charging After about half a minute it no longer read it was charging. Ok . Leave phone to charge to full when it tells me, i unplug charger it reads 100% and stays at 100% and flicks between its charging and its not and percentage doesnt drop from 100% until i reboot and it drops to about 96% or so. Battery now loses about 50% overnight and i cannot gauge what state my battery really is at. Wiped phone, formatted new rom, same issue. different rom same issue. I assume from this its not software problem. Is it i need a new battery or does it sound like phones gone **** up. BTW i plug usb to pc and it instantly loads up my sd cards as normal so the usb port seems unaffected. Im not sure what to do
Check what kernel was installed with your last ROM.Sometimes kernels that are use for OC/UV can cause wierd things like this.You may have a corrupt one and if so may need to flash it again.Flash a CF-Root kernel and see what happens.If that doesnt change the problem then we will have to look somewhere else,but its a start.
I acquired a new ext battery but phone still has same issue. I've cleaned kernels in cwm and flashed others but the problem still persists.
I don't know what else to try.

Had the exact same issue on my SGS2. This is not a software or battery problem. I took it to my local samsung service center and they replaced the port where we connect the charger and it started working fine after that.
Mine was under warranty and i was not charged for anything. So everything's back to normal.

Did you return your sgs2 to default or was it rooted when when you returned it to a Samsung service center. I think its what ill have to do is return it under warentee.

Wow sounds like the exact same problem I had just a few days ago. I think my problem was down to moisture caused by using my phone while out in the snow. I bought a new board on ebay for £7 and that fixed the problem but obviously involved removing the casing and a few screws and plugs to fit.
Well i rooted the phone and was running a deodexed rom with siyah kernel. but before taking it to the service center, i flashed a stock rom and kernel and did the binary counter reset with a jig.
Even then they found out that the phone was rooted before, though i pretended i dint do anything and they couldn't justify it. So i guess the warranty was still valid.
I know, I know, another bootloop thread. I've been reading dozens of them and I can't find my problem, please forgive me.
My wife's phone was stolen, and so we bought a used one from a stranger after seeing a listing on a local sales site (gumtree). Bad call - they demo'd it for us, but we didn't power it off and on before buying. After parting with cash, we find the phone won't boot unless it's plugged in to AC power (and not USB). All it does is loop grey/green battery logos over and over. Sometimes vibrating, sometimes not, but it would never break the loop, except to enter download mode, unless I connected it to AC power.
If I did boot it, I couldn't do some stuff, like enable USB debugging - it flat out wouldn't allow me to check that box. So I checked the kernel, and it seemed to have a weird kernel installed, so I thought it was time to just re-flash with the official firmware.
Well, first I wanted to try SlimROM, but I couldn't get to CWM Recovery (which was already installed) reliably, and on the rare instance where I could get it to come up, I couldn't navigate to extSD where the slim files were, nor mount USB storage (the PC wouldn't recognize it).
So I decided to try and re-flash to stock, using ODIN and the official samsung FW that worked well on my own GS2. This worked, after a fashion - I could get it to boot if I applied AC power, but things were badly broken. It'd reboot a minute or two after the setup began, and so I was forced to suspect either hardware failure or something that survived a complete wipe and flash.
So I thought kernel. The only one I had lying around that I knew worked was an old jeboo kernel. I flashed it with ODIN, and presto - it worked! The thing booted and stayed stable.
But I still have that accursed battery loop when the phone's off, the battery needs to be yanked to keep it actually powered down. And there are other bugs, like the screen comes on after you turn it off with the power button. Just once, but now it can't be powered down and ignored - you turn the screen off and wait to see if it comes back on and do it again.
And it's confused about charging - this morning it reported the AC adaptor was a USB charger, and this evening it thinks both USB and the AC adaptor are both AC (in the battery info settings screen).
And the only way to get it to boot reliably now is to remove the battery and plug it back in, at which point it boots as normal.
So, after all that long winded four-hours-of-tears-and-anger story, my question is this: What's the battery boot loop all about? Why does the screen flicker constantly when it's charging via AC? Why does it take -twenty seconds- to recognize it has been plugged in to power?
I can't install CWM, it won't enter recovery or boot successfully (no loop, just hangs on the yellow triangle screen). Before I start randomly applying new ROMs via odin, I'd like to find out more about my problem.
Please, can anyone shed light on this? I thought I knew what I was doing but I'm coming up empty here.
Sounds like the USB board/port (tho it might be worse than that; this is what I'd replace first). Relatively cheap/easy to replace; but you do need to check which board is currently in the phone & ensure you get the exact same as a replacement - there's 4 different boards, get the wrong one & you won't fix the problem/waste time & money.
Search for similar threads, there have been detailed threads in Q&A over the past few mths, those threads should have the info you need.
There's also a chance it might be as simple as the battery on the fritz, if you're able, try another one.
But definitely sounds like the USB board (hopefully for you) to me
Thanks for the suggestion. Certainly the flickering while charging issue and the delay to recognize the charger being plugged in point towards a USB board issue, but what I can't figure is the reluctance of the unit to boot without changing the kernel. Wouldn't the stock ROM via ODIN have included the stock kernel? Why does CWM cause the unit to lock up during boot?
Last night the thing stopped flickering on AC and recognized the charger cable instantly - is this a self-calibrating feature? (My research of a thousand similar threads seems to suggest a lot of battery issues correct themselves). For the record, the phone did come with a second 3rd-party battery, but neither it nor my own original GS2 battery make any difference.
So... Yeah, I'm still not sure if this is a hardware problem, software problem, or both.
Also last night I followed a suggestion from another thread and loaded up touchwiz, changed the screen timeout and switched back to apex launcher, and the screen started shutting off as desired. This morning it doesn't work anymore, and the phone is frequently found with the screen turned on. =/
Ok so by flashing full stock rom that practically eliminates the software side of things. Now do what mistahbungle said. My money is also on the usb board. I had to replace mine recently. Click the link on my signature, from there you can get onto a guide by keithross39 on how to DIY if you choose.

Do you want help, or do you want to continue doing what you think will fix the problem? If you're having the same issues on full stock, it indicates hardware issue. The software won't work unless the hardware is functioning correctly. Let me think, what did MistahBungle say was the problem? Oh that's right. The USB board. Hardware.

I'm not disagreeing, I'm fully prepared to accept the USB board is part or all of the problem, but I still wonder why etc etc.
OK....so....firstly, flashing a standard single file firmware won't fully wipe the previous software.....all it does is overwrite what it needs to (leaving who knows what untouched). The easiest way to regain a 'clean slate' is to flash a 3 part test firmware which DOES complete a full wipe during the flash..... @Hopper8 s guide provides a link to this test firmware and full instructions as to how to install it.
Secondly.....hardware faults can/do cause unexpected operational issues......some of the issues you describe were appearing on my wife's S2 before I replaced the USB board on her phone (they disappeared afterwards). As @Hopper8 has mentioned, his guide includes a link to my guide concerning the replacement of this part. I personally would hold off doing any more Odin flashes until you have replaced the board......if the USB port fails during a flash (because of a faulty board) you'll end up in a 'whole world of hurt' that will be infinitely worse than it is now.......

Given what you've already spent on it (cost of phone + replace USB board), if I were in your situaton, I'd be cutting my losses & put it down to experience rather than replacing the motherboard (with a 2nd hand board from a 'donor' phone), whilst that's nowhere near as expensive as paying a service centre to put a new board in, it's still likely to cost you >AUD$100. If you can get one for a lot cheaper than that, maybe it would be worthwhile.

Or...as first measurement, you clean the pins briefly and bend the holder slightly back to the center.

It's not a physical problem, at least in the USB port... I mean, we put a new one in it and nothing changed.

So the next step is either a motheboard replacement or the bin.
I realise this isn't what you want to hear, but think logically about it...You bought a 2nd hand phone from someone you don't know/had no idea what they'd put the phone through before you bought it, it crapped itself shortly after, giving no indications whatsoever the problems are firmware/software related, and showing a number of symptoms which indicate something major is wrong hardware-wise.
You tried the cheap/obvious & that didn't work, one way or another you need to bite the bullet (both options involve you spending a not insignificant amount of money in all likelihood, unless you can score a donor phone cheap).

Way ahead of you. Ordered a new (NEW this time) phone. Will be selling the S2 to the next guy, along with the caveat "Sometimes the screen comes on." Will lose a few bucks, but it'll go into the old logbook of lessons well and truly learned. ^_^

So Ive had my Note 2 since release on VZW. I have my ups and downs and I have read numerous threads from different forums about this situation. I wanted to know if this starting to become the norm, which it shouldnt be.
So lately I have noticed that my phone when I connect it a charger that it will make the the sound that it is being connected a bunch of times. Sometimes it wont charge after that and I have to let it sit for about 10min - hr while connected to get it to charge again. Yesterday I was planning to unlock the bootloader again as I got bored of stock. So I plugged into my computer and all I got was the normal ding ding when connected and that was it. I walked away to make me a "samich" and get a beer knowing it was going to be about an hour or so to get it unlocked, TWRP installed, pick a rom, and setup. So I got to my computer and notice that the phone was usb charging but no notification on phone for MTP or PTP. So unplugged/replugged and nada, Still got the ding ding and charge indicator but no usb connection.
Today I came back to the computer and saw that computer recognize my phone with

"How would you like to open your files"
So at least it recognize my phone. I disconnected/reconnected and still popped up on phone for MTP/PTP and on computer how would I like to open my files. I even jiggled the cable to thinking that the port may be broken/defective. I changed cables just to make sure that maybe the cables are bad

I mean pretty much right now my phone is fully operational and has full usb/charging functionality but I hate for this to happen if Im in ODIN or flashing something and it hits the fan and now have a paper weight. I have heard chatters that sometimes the the software might be the culprit as I am not seeing any kind of damage to the port that would indicate to be so.

Confirmed via Odin and ADB that phone is recognize, trying to eliminate that it maybe a driver issue.

Would like to note too ( <--ehh get it, see what I did there, lol) that I did send my phone in for repair twice, the first for memory card and the second for cracked screen. When I got my phone back the second time I have notice that horrid "Verizon" logo on the on the home button was gone. So happy about it. The problem which was minor at the time was when I connected my earphones into the jack and was charging it at the same time I had some weird distortion. Still does it but but just learned to to listen to my phone while charging.....
So idk if maybe somewhere down the line in repairs did something go fubar but Ill see what happens this weekend.

To my knowledge, this is a Sprint part. Keep in mind that I recently got my phone back from Verizon, well Asurion, from repair due to cracked screen. Like I said before the home button does not have the Verizon logo. Just a white blank button. I dont know if they share parts and what not.

The link above is the usb part I need for my phone but my question now is are these parts interchangeable like the screens or it is because its a Sprint Note 2 usb chip that Im having problems. I ordering the part as I cant claim insurance anymore until open enrollment in January. Hopefully this fixes the issue and maybe I can save myself the cash to have it serviced by a store.
I too gave up on trying to have my PC connect via USB.it only charges.I have 3 different computers and they only charge it. For transferring files I use air droid.

The problem Im having is I re-locked my bootloader and re flashed everything back to stock as I was following the insurance route to just get it fixed. But when I found out that I couldn't anymore then I went the other route to fix it myself. Now that I just want to unlock and start flashing away I cant because my computer wont read or register my phone. So Im waiting for the part to come in and do the repair myself. Easy fix in my opinion and will help out to get me to flash other roms. The only thing I was able to do is root the phone without my computer so at least I can play around with root apps.

Hello, I've had my Note 3 for under a year, and have had it rooted sense the day I've had it.
The charger port in it has recently been acting strange. (It's been charging really slow, if at all and has been thinking it is in a dock constantly)
I've done all the things to try and fix it, like cleaning the port with a brush and what not, to no avail. It has to be the charger port, I've tried multiple chargers.
I did manage to unroot via superuser before it had died, but when I go into download mode it still says custom and that knox is void (0.1). I'm wondering if I can get away with taking it to the sprint store to be fixed?
I'd give it a shot. I wouldn't say anything about the software on the device since the issue is the hardware. Of course if you happen to know that rep that his own rooted, you're in even better hands.
Thanks! I'm also concerned because they might question why I am still on 4.4.4. Should I re root and install the 4.4.4 stock firmware? Would I then be able to update to lolipop provided I can get enough charge?
Lollipop is a BIG update(about 900MB if I remember correctly). Unless you got at least 50%, you wouldn't have enough to download and install it. Also, the data pins usually get messed up beforethe power pins, so an attempt to Odin a ROM would result in a bricked device most likely. But again, that's software/firmware, and has nothing to do with hardware (broken USB port).
The rep should just need to plug in a charger cord and be like "Can't charge it, let's fix it." If he goes on saying that an update may fix it, go to another store, he doesn't know what he's talking about (personal opinion).
You're not using that bunk charger that comes with it are you? I've never had one last longer than a few weeks. Using a regular charger like the one for the s3-s4 and such works fine. Just throwing that out there.
