[Q] Default Picture in Messaging App - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently installed Resurrection Remix 2.4 and have an issue with the messaging application. They have updated the messaging application and now the default icon for contact is a blue droid. It hurts my eyes even at moderate brightness. Is there a way to go back to the grey droid as the default picture?

Replace the icon in the messaging app's res/drawable-hdpi folder with another one you do like.

Do i need to edit MMS.apk for this or is there an easier way?

An easier way is to place the application onto your homescreen and change the icon with your own picture, if your launcher supports that feature (such as Apex Launcher) But that will only change the one on your homescreen and not in your app drawer.

I wanted to change the droid picture inside the messaging app. Anyways I found a solution to my problem here

It also adds the option to have linebreaks in SMS so I can't ask for more. Thanks a lot for your help guys

Change icons shortcut question

I know that you can set the TouchWiz to a customizeable grid and replace the icons at the bottom, but what I want to do is when I click on the messaging icon it takes me to handcent. I like handcents app but I like the stock messaging icon better. Is it possible to redirect the shortcut to handcent and dolphin for the browser?
I'm rooted btw and thanks.
You need to go to system apps and get the icon with an explorer (I love RootExplorer) from mms.apk and put the icon in place of the handcent icon. That make sense? I can't remember the names of the icons, but I want to think they are in hpdi or something. Don't quote me on file location though.
Alright I did that. This is what I did.
Went and extracted the messaging apparently, extracted handcent took the icon from the messaging apparently and put it.in.handcent and renamed it ic_handcent.png like the original, compressed handcent again as a zip and renamed it apk but when I try to install it keeps saying application not installed.
Any clue what I'm doing wrong?

[Q[ Change the TouchWiz default layout

Do you guys know if theres anyway to change the 4 apps at the bottom of the TouchWiz launcher??
I really like the launcher but it annoys me that I can't put my prefered messaging app (Handcent SMS) at the bottom of the screen instead of the stock messaging app.

Open your app drawer, tap the key to the left of home, it's name escapes me, to enter edit mode. You can then drag/drop icons to the dock.

[Q] Handcent Dock Icon

Hey guys, just wanted to know if it was possible to change Handcent's default icon to the stock touchwiz messaging icon. Using the touchwiz launcher so can't use apps like better cut to put it on the dock. I did try using apkmanager to change the handcent png file, signed it too. Doesn't want to install. If i push the app to data/app it shows up but force closes if I click on it.

GO SMS Ugly Icon!

Hi,
I'm trying to replace the Go SMS Icon on the default Samsung lockscreen, I use Go SMS for default sms and I'm running Nova launcher so have changed the go sms icon to ics icon. But on my lockscreen the go sms icon cannot be changed, is there away?? I have tried a few ICS lockscreen but none work to how I want, either double lock screen or look awful!
Can someone shed some light on best way.
Thanks

AFAIK, the icon cannot be changed on the default lockscreen. Only the application. The only way I can see to change the icon would be to edit the Go SMS Pro apk and change the icon file to the one you want. This however will need to be done again after every reboot.
Another way would be to create your own small application with the Icon you want, and have that just directly open Go SMS Pro.

Thank you for the reply... Hmm that's a shame as I do like the default lockscreen just the Go SMS Pro app looks awful on there!
I'm not sure how to create my own icon, was hoping that I could copy the stock messaging icon and replace the Go SMS one in root...
Oh well will just stick with Holo launcher now!
Thanks.

i think you can decompile the apk, change the icon sign it and install it and it will have the icon you replaced by default. but its not such an easy process.

Hmm think I might skip that, probably end up causing more damage than its worth!
Thanks though..

If you install widget locker, you can customize the lock screen using any combination of icons-to-apps that you want.

ICS Icons?

I use chompSMS and Nova Launcher. I'm wondering if there is anywhere I can find the stock motorola SMS icon? I tried taking a screenshot and cropping the icon from my computer but Nova Launcher scales the icon in a way that makes it appear larger than the dialer, email, and browser icon when they should be the same size. Any suggestions?

maybe when ya cropped it, it was to the same size as the icons should be but u prob didn't leave space around the borders, so they don't look bigger than the default icons?
just a thought..
