[Q] Problem ICS - Contacts has stopped - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've updated to ICS (first Samsung stock ICS XWLPF, now to AllianceROM v2 XWLPG) and I have one problem - Contacts has stopped
When I use "Phone" and try to search a name.. for example enter 346 (for the letters combination "Dim" ) .. the numbers appear as "34/6" and 8 names are found with a white triangle icon in the right to see them. When I press the triangle icon to choose the correct name after few secounds "Contacts" crash with massage "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped." and OK massage. There is no problem when I use Contacts to search for names (not in the Phone though the triangle icon).
What I did try:
- Go to Settings > Applications > All > Clear data in Contacts and Contacts Storage. - restore contacts but it did not work - crash again
- Try wipe data/factory reset (wipe cache partition) after phone boot I've add google account again, wait to sync and again - crash
- Update my colleague i9100 (with different google acount and contacts) to stock ICS Samsung XWLPF and again this problem
Note If I enter for example only 2 numbers 34 (for the letters combination "Di" ) .. the numbers appear as "34" (without "/" ) and there is no problem when I click the triangle icon to see name results.
Any idea where the problem is?

I did not even know I could search like that.
But on my phone that does work (ICS), so it should be possible

[Q] Create Contacts (not working??)

Don't know if this was either
- After installing LPQ
- After installing ICS domination theme
or
- After installing soul bound
BUT I can't seem to create contacts. I can view contacts, and everything else. But when I go to create it freezes for a couple of seconds then says "unfortunately, contacts has stopped"
Only found it out today after trying to add new number Any ideas?

[Q] Whatsapp Stuck on Initializing after Crash and Reinstall

So I had some sort of crash on my HTC Sensation where the phone rebooted, and all my whatsapp messages were gone. Whatsapp automatically backs up your messages every 24 hours, so I reinstalled to enable the backup.
1. After installation, when inputting information (after restoring your messages) and getting into profile info, I am stuck on an "Initializing: Please wait a moment..." box
2. This goes on forever
3. I have force closed, cleared cash, cleared data and tried again with no luck
4. I have uninstalled and reinstalled (and reboot the phone) with no luck
5. I have uninstalled and installed the latest version from the whatsapp website (which has a different file size than the play store one) with no luck
6. I have redone this WITHOUT recovering my messages with no luck (even deleting the back up messages folder)
7. I can actually receive notifications from whatsapp, showing messages from groups / people, though clicking it takes me back to "Initializing"
8. Sometimes I get an "android.process.acore is not responding. Would you like to tell HTC?". This may be a separate issue as it still continues to "Initialize" no matter what I press
I can see 28 messages from notifications, some which are very important and urgent. Hopefully someone can help
Edit: I am using an unrooted HTC Sensation with ICS
Thanks
Update: Tried reinstalling using safe mode. Same problem happens, though instead of being stuck on initialization, Whatsapp force closes and stops working after about 2 minutes

I tried to follow your steps, but they are not very clear.
Can you kindly elaborate the steps?
Thanks

Did the steps, but still stuck at initializing.
If your phone is rooted, try clearing dalvik cache. Other than that, I fear the only thing that you could possibly do is wait for an update.
I'm currently having (had) the same issue. I reinstalled a couple of times and suddenly it started working. I wonder if it was a problem on WhatsApp's end, because I didn't do a thing - suddenly everything was fine.

Did this:
- Uninstalled already downloaded version from Market on the cell phone.
- Downloaded Whatsapp from my pc, from their official website
- Transferred the APK to the cell phone, installed it.
- Left it a bit (a minute) at "initializing". Worked.
got it solved...
i was having problem with cm7.1.5 so installed cm7.2...
on 1st start of whatsaap it gave me msg about having custom rom can create problem as it does not support whats app..
then also i proceeded n i was facing same problem.it was stuck on initializing.
then after lots of different tries it worked on one trick...
what i did was :
1.1st backup all my contacts(mobile).
2.then cleared data in contact storage in manage apps.
3.installed whatsapp 2.8 which was backup earlier
4.clicked "Agree and continue" then entered my mobile no. but,it told me that whatsapp new version must be installed.
5.i then upgraded whats app from play store.
6.After installation was complete i opened it and it was started from same step of application of entering mobile no.
7. i entered no. , restored data from old backup of whatssapp, all messages were restored.
now my Display Picture , Name got appeared.
8.clicked next, shortcut of whatsapp was created. in 1 sec it got initialized, n continue button got appeared.

Been getting this error since this morning. Reinstalled whatsapp. Still didn't work. Then I reflashed my ROM completely. Still having this error. Any ideas? Getting android.process.acore has stopped as soon as I open Whatsapp.
Running the Revolutionary S5 mod on my S3.
same problem
I'm having the same problem. As soon as I open whatsapp it gets stuck for a bit in the initializing screen, then crashes and shows "android.acore.process has stopped". This happens in the XRom, Smartdroid rom and S5 revolutionary rom for s3. Any fix for this? :/

I had the same problem with Revolutionary S5 V3
what did the trick for me was installing an older version which i downloaded somewhere(but not too old cause whatsapp wont accept it) and use it to activate and initialize. Then i updated through google play and everthing seems fine.
As for the android.process.acore follow these steps:
First of all switch off the internet
- tap on setting and navigate to applications
- tap on all options and search for "google services framework" from the list
- tap on it and hit force stop to forcibly stop the application
- now hit force stop for the following apps
-> contacts
-> gmail
-> facebook
-> whatsapp
- reboot your system.
Cheers
WhatsApp slow initializing due to contacts problem. Confirm!
Check out how here...

[Q] Can't edit calendar entries after upgrading to ICS 4.0.4 and then to JB 4.1.2

Hello
Since I have upgraded my S2 from GB v2.3.5 to ICS v4.0.4 stock ROM and rooted it, I have a problem with the calendar.
I'm using only the Android calendar (My calendar), not Google's one.
I create a new appointment --> OK
I try to modify it but I can't because the Edit choice is not available in the menu.
I noticed that :
- previously created entries are not affected,
- newly created entries using Outlook and synced with Kies are also not affected.
Those non affected entries can only be modified once, the Modify option disappears after first modification.
I've tried to change all the (few) options but without any success.
Could it be a permission's issue ? How to fix it ?
If you have any ideas, they will be much appreciated.

I would suggest looking into two things:
1/ Make sure the version of the calendar app you're using is the most updated one from the market. If not - try updating it and see if that helps
2/ You can try clearing data (just in case in your rom upgrade process something got confused in the data). You do that by going into settings > applications > all (or downloaded - it doesn't matter) > your calendar app > clear data. Reboot the phone and try again.
I hope it works
Solved !!!
I found the solution.
I cleared the data for the app named "Calendar storage" (caution, not "Calendar") and then every new entry in the calendar can be edited now, even after several modifications.
Of course, this clears all the entries you have in your local calendar.
So a backup before is necessary (Kies export or Kies sync with Outlook) to be able to restore it after and get your calendar data back.
Thanks to all.
Hope it will help those who are stuck like I was.
The thread status can be put to SOLVED and then be closed.
Same issue when upgrading from ICS to JB
Same issue when upgrading from ICS to JB : unable to edit any existing calendar entry.
So same solution with this little difference : as Calendar and Tasks have been merged into one app named "S Calendar", clearing data will act on both types.
So to recover data, it is necessary to clear Kies sync logs for both and then sync them again.

[Q] Installing GAPPS after rebooting the phone

I have an HTC Desire with the latest stable KK ROM.
See here for more info
I used this ROM for almost 1 year without any issue. Then yesterday while I were showing to a friend how to install the gapps package I wrongly reinstalled it on my phone from the recovery screen and now the Home button doesn't work anymore. Furthermore the notification bar doesn't show me notifications about SMS , whatsup , app updates etc ... When the led start blinking I have to open every app to check if a message or SMS is arrived. Google Play work without problems.
All the settings and the apps are still there but I can't use the phone without these features. I tried to remove the google account , wipe the cache and the dalvik cache but the problems still remain.
I have 42 apps installed and a lot of settings and I dont want to reset and reinstall all the apps again. Is there something I can do ?
Finally I managed to restore the home button and the notification bar.
The only thing I had to do was to run the Setup Wizard again.
I powered on my phone I connected it to the computer and I run the following command:
Code:
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardTestActivity
I inserted again all the settings into the wizard screens and when I clicked on "Finished" .... boom the notification bar showed me the notifications about sms and others.
Also the home button now works flawlessly.

android.process.acore has ben stopped "GALAXY CORE 2" (SM-G355H/M/NH)

The error in android.process.acore often arise associated with cache problems in some applications
The android.process.acore process stopped - How to solve ?
1. First , start by accessing the Settings menu of your android . Among the "Applications " tab and browse to the " All " option .
Click the options in the form of 3-point button (some devices have a physical button options). Select the Reset preference .
2. Also in the Settings menu, go back to "Applications" - tab " All " . Look for the application " Contacts Storage" and tap the "Clear data" . This procedure can clean the contacts from your Android , it is essential to have a backup file ( or in the Gmail account, or vcf format).
3. Some users reported that the problem arose after connecting the Facebook account (which syncs your contacts) .
To verify that Facebook is causing the error , go to "Settings " menu - Applications - Facebook - Clear Data .
When cleaning the data, your Facebook account will be removed from your Android , being necessary to again log into the service.
4. If none of the options to solve the problem , try a factory reset the device , reversing all harmful changes.
