Hey all, after using EXT 4 formatter I want to try ICS but I need to install Stock 407 ROM. So I update Dell Streaks recovery to 407 by Fastboot (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) and restart (fastboot reboot). So I updated Stock 407 by 2nd recovery option, accepted by camera button and update was successful. So I want to boot into stock 407 but phone turns off after DELL logo! Now I can't turn it on nor LEDs are lighting! What I have done bad? I can't turn phone on, I can't go into fastboot mode nor safe mode so QDL Tools can't help. Is it over?
did you try plugging the charger and see if the phone goes on or not?
The most common reason a Streak becomes bricked this badly is by executing fastboot -w/erase. In these cases, the only way to revive the Streak is to have it JTAGged, but forget about using the Streak as a phone if you do.
I did not do fastboot erase. I know about this issue.
If I plugin charger it is not doing anything.
I tried other battery from friends phone and still same issue. So I have to buy used Streak with broken LCD and change motherboard.....
And I wasn't saying you had, but it was at the top of my mind. In any event you've already figured out what you have to do in order to get back up and running. I wish you success.
Strephon Alkhalikoi,
thank you for your advice.
I hope the Dell Streak won't fail to you or others in this community same way as me.
Experienced the same
I also experienced the same. after using EXT 4 formatter i tried to install the japan softbank stock rom (366) then the streak rebooted and then after the dell logo screen turns off. tried to full out the battery then power it on again but no response (led notifications did not light up). also i tried to plug it on a charger and no response at all. i also tried putting my fully charged spare battery still no response. now i send it to dell service center and told me that upon diagnostic it has something to do with the hardware and they told me that it may take 1-4 months to repair due to scarcity of the parts needed. i think bricked was due to the use of EXT 4 formatter and flashing a STOCK ROM over it (in my opinion). i'am not telling that EXT formatter was the only reason of the said bricked (it has also something to do with flashing stock rom over EXT formatter.
Just a piece of advice to those who already used EXT4 formatter do not attempt to flash the stock ROM.
I sympathize with those having this problem, but I have used the EXT4 formatter and then flashed a stock rom over it twice. (Once 407 and once 354).
But to be on the safe side, I won't be doing it again...
I did it to once, but i never do it again, maybe the inner sd got corrupted??
I don't think so. Even if the inner MicroSD were corrupted he should still be able to charge the Streak. His Streak is acting identically to Streaks hit with the fastboot -w/erase commands, which is why I mentioned it in the first place.

a simple workaround is that to reformat to ext3 or just delete the partition table and let the streak reformat it to factory default...
thats what i do... though never had any problem with not booting completely...

Have a dell streak that was running 2.2 fine..reformatted the sim card, then did a factory reset, and the phone just went into a reboot loop. Trust me, I have been to every resource on every forum and spent hours trying to fix it. I used QDL, streakflash, etc multiple times and on multiple computers. I was getting the error about the driver that everyone has, but i eventually figured out that it is not the driver, it is the fact that as soon as QDL gets to that point, the streak goes to the screen saying "factory reset, wait for reboot", over and over and over.
I have been able to get it to the point where I can get to fastboot, or the screen that allows you to restore from the sim, but that is it. I have flashed the recovery image with fastboot, i have tried restoring with the dell 309, 318 pkg's, the 2.2 rom, multiple times. Streakflash always gets me back to the ablity to enable fastboot screen, but qdl always takes me to the factory reset screen. Restoring from the sim SD card just brings up a black screen, and i've tried 3 different sd cards. Running the engineer test on the internal sd says everything is fine.
So, I have tried all of these steps 10 times or more, and I get nothing, so if anyone has another method, let me know...Also, as the title states, i will send my streak to you and pay you to get it back up and running, I don't care if its a custom rom or stock or 2.2 or 1.6 or whatever. At my wits end...
Also, I live in the chicago area if someone wants me to just bring it to them.
Thanks!
by sim card do u mean the microsd card ????
if ur able to get to the fastboot mode u r safe.
Have u tried flashing the CWM recovery ?
If ur able to do that flash then flash 1.5.1 streakdroid rom.
I always use fastboot and recovery to install roms.
Never used qdl and hence cannot answer questions there.

Ok, thank you. Yes, i meant the sd card, haha. I am at work now, but will give that a shot tonight when i get home. I appreciate the advice. Is the CWM Recovery file on streakdroid's site? I know the streakdroid roms are. Thanks again!

So I upgraded my Dell Streak to StreakDroid some time ago and had been updating along the way as new versions came out. At around 1.9.0 my streak started crashing every which way. So I reverted back to the old version - no luck. Then I reflashed 1.9 still no go. My streak now crashes basically whenever I try do anything useful with it. Whenever I open Maps, Market, browse a page with any pictures, watch a video, or even think about using flash my streak freezes up and then capacitive buttons flash a few times and the Streak reboots. Often times it hangs at it the Dell Logo and reboots a few times before being able to get back into android. Sometimes it never even makes it back to android and I have to pull the battery.
I recently tried Farad's Ginger Streak, it was stable for a while but now has the exact same problem! (Yes I did the amss, dsp, gps flash)
I have run all of the Engineering tests in the Fastboot mode ( I was convinced it was the internal SD card for a while) but they all turn out fine.
Something interesting: Whenever I boot into fastboot mode it says TE Failed and something else in red then it looks like it tries again and finally gets to the "Wait for SD Detect" until finally booting to fastboot mode.
I am at end of my nerves at this point! I can only use my phone as a phone! Everything else crashes it! Please Help.
Thank You.

Did you try the 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM?
If nothing works then the internal SD card (2GB one) maybe faulty.
He mentioned testing the internal SD and that it reported no problems.
To the OP, has this occurred on stock ROMs as well?
I am currently running farad's 2.3.3 ginger rom.
As for the stock ROM I don't remember having the problem back in the day of stock 1.6 from dell but that was a looong time ago...
I was trying to go back to complete stock..but any instructions I find seem to be a bit shaky I tried just flashing the stock rom through streakmod recovery but it never booted(didn't really expect it to since I had to flash a new amss and dsp to get 2.3.3). I was thinking about going QDL but that doesn't flash the 1.6 if I remember correctly. I kind've want to send it in for warranty but I need to get it back to stock for that.
Thanks for taking intrest and helping.
Install the current version of your carrier's ROM on the Streak and try that rather than going all the way back to 1.6. This will allow for the following:
1. The recovery image, the baseband, and the software are all the same version.
2. Eliminates hardware as the source of your difficulties.
If the Streak functions properly under the carrier firmware you install, then you can safely eliminate hardware as the source of your problem, which means the software is the culprit. In that case, install Fards' ROM again and test it. It is possible that your Streak had a bad flash when putting GingerStreak on it.
I believe the directions given on the Dell Streak Flashing Guide on the Wiki might be helpful.
Did he factory reset at any time inbetween all those flashes?
Flashing rom after rom wont fix anything if it's the data that's the issue, custom roms dont wipe data as a general rule (they can, it's simply not scripted to on install as it's usually not required for updating the same rom but to a new version).
I didn't even think to ask that of him. Putting a stock ROM on the device does wipe everything though, so wouldn't he be at the same end point that a factory reset would be at?
A stock update will, but reading his posts i'm unsure he actually managed to get any stock update to complete as he was likely doing it wrong
If I had a penny for every time I factory reset my phone....
I can't tell you how many times I factory reset my phone between rom flashes but it didn't help any. I tried both the factory reset from the "black and white" and from within StreakMod. I have cleared the Dalvik Cache and the batter stats and the entire cache partition. I have run fix permissions out the wazoo. And it never really helped any.
Anyway I just installed the latest stock AT&T Rom (unfortunately they are only at 2.2.2) as suggested by Strephon (thanks for the wiki link by the way that place is amazing! How is it I never ran across it in all my time with the streak...)
The phone seems ok...but so did all the other ROMs when I first installed them. Any ideas on how to "stress test" the device short of installing stuff from market and trying to do everything?
Thanks for all this help by the way you guys are being awesome.
Well nevermind...that didn't take long at all. It is giving me the same problems as before. It is freezing, flashing LEDs and rebooting a few times. It made it into android for a sec while it said "checking SD card for integrity" in the status bar then rebooted again and finally booted into android.
If you're having this problem even with a stock ROM, I believe you have a hardware related problem, and that it was simply coincidence that it happened shortly after upgrading to custom ROMs.

If its not under warranty, I would look on these forums for a disassembly guide and replace the internal sd card. I replaced mine with a 4 gig just for the heck of it.
Alright I guess I will I call Dell tomorrow and see if I can't get it fixed/replaced.
According to the warranty site I should still be under warranty.
I'll post back once I contact dell. Thanks for helping out so much!
Success
Called Dell and they next-dayed me a new streak. Runs just fine. I guess it was a hardware problem after all.
Now Last time I upgraded my streak from stock I had to go through a whole bunch of hoops (QDL, then some intermediate stock roms then streakmod and finally DJ_Steve)
Is this still the recommended path to 2.3.3 or has a better way come around since?
So...I welcome all the NOOB comments but in reality I'm hoping to learn from the wise ones in this field. I bought a Dell streak for learning purposes (own an MotoAtrix) so that I can really get behind the weels of learning android the meant it was meant to be FREE so here's my problem so far with with the dell streak. Since it got updated to the ATT 2.2 build 353 it has been restarting on it's own any time after 4-6 mins of real usage. I can leave it on it's own charging or just on standby and no issues but it freezes and resets itself to then hang on the Dell Logo before the colorful Dell Logo. Now here's the steps I've tried to resolve. like i said I want to learn not a solution to my problems.
I tried first the simple get in and reset from the Settings screens. reset still issues.
Then I tried a hard reset and still issue.
3.) I tried uploading the "Update.pkg" and then it tells me Update.pkg.dec out of date error 7....resets back to 2.2
after 5 mins of usage resets on own and hangs on dell black and white logo.
keep in mind sometimes the hang is so big I have to do a battery pull for at least half hour to get it back (makes me think that there's something going on with flash memories sort of like bios on a main computer)
replace battery restart and back to 2.2 reset okay tried to root with superoneclick 1.7 and it gives me this as I tried to root...and keep in mind I've tried both way trying to get the password first and then doing the super rage root.

so no luck still having issues reseting..so I went on to the next step...MULTIFLASHER RECOVERY TOOL v.08 wich by the way is super sweet for someone to come up with this....but I do this still (SR #11) option and still once it resets it hangs in the Dell black and white logo screen. I guess another half to an hour battery pull. Hopefully I've given enough info or detail for someone to guide me in the right direction. as the next step from this is getting more android devices to root and modify to learn the process better before I start hopefully someday writing my own rom. Basically, flash the recovery for a stock rom, i.e. 354
upgrade from update.pkg
See if this fixes your issue.
Going to try this as it has been sitting on standby with out a battery for about an hour now so hopefully it will start no probs will post results from there. Thank You Much will reply once I have results in the AM

SO I tried your suggestion and I'm stuck at the point of adding the Drivers manually, (which may be the reason why flash and the rooting didn't work to begin with since it's not recognizing the device in the port that is connecting to. I've tried all 4 ports on this toshiba but guessing that I'm running a 64 OS also may be the reason for the issues. but I've tried adding the Qualcom HS USB Diagnostic device 9002 and I get the following error.
Driver is not intended for this platform and for some reason it always wants to assign driver for Qualcomm Diagnostic device 1937, if you know the manf of your device please contact ... yeah right like DELL will know how to fix this issue. So once I hit close it just gives it a Com14 or Com# depending on what port is plugged in.
64-bit OS has nothing to do with it, since I can successfully run Fastboot commands on my 64-bit Windows 7 laptop without issues.
I believe your best approach is to intall Dell's sync software from Dell.com if you haven't already done so. That has the proper drivers for the Streak as well as creating the registry entries for the drivers. Once installed you actually can uninstall the sync software if you wish and the drivers will remain.
After that, do NOT run SuperOneClick or ANY one click rooting solutions. The recommended procedure is to copy Superuser.zip to the external SD, then flash Streakmod Recovery. Complete instructions and the Superuser.zip file can be downloaded here. Too many issues have been caused by one-click solutions, while the Superuser.zip/Streakmod Recovery method works flawlessly.
reinstalling the sync method...
I had already installed the sync software from dell and it was not connecting before I tried all the other methods I even tried reinstalling and have the program try to self fix install errors. So I'm going to uninstall completely and then reinstall see if that works. off tomorrow so i'm going to be burning the midnight oil to get this fixed am i crazy to think this is fun...? or is it the nerdiness in me that finds the challenge of restoring a hanging on a dell logo unstable 2.2 on a dell streak fun?
If I read correctly on the link that you posted, in order for me to do the streakmod recovery, I must have the streak rooted, now here's a problem with that since the computer hasn't been able to install the drivers I haven't been able to root the streak, and it keeps reflashing itself at boot to stock recovery so I don't get custom recovery boot. I will keep trying and post any updates or resolved issues in the hope that this can also help anyone out there. Thanks for all the imput I appreciate it!

Rooting and custom recovery are two separate things. You need a custom recovery to root using superuser.zip. You said it keeps rewriting the recovery when you reboot. I take it you have been able to flash recovery on it? If so, flash StreakMod again and instead of rebooting, pull the battery when finished. Put the battery back in and hold the volume keys (both) while powering on the device. Choose option 2 and you'll boot into streakmod. From there you should be able to flash superuser.zip and/or a custom rom. Note: Nearly all, if not all, custom roms are prerooted.
If you have flashed a custom recovery, what makes you think you have driver problems?
well...I tried the Multirecovery tool to try to get the Streakmod recovery on but when I tried to retry to load the streakmod.zip I couldn't get the other files on the sd but only the option to load from .pkg so I was under the assumption since I couldn't get the custom flash tool to read the zip i wanted to load that it didn't work. but here I go again. another thing I'm trying to start fresh I just formatted the sd card and I'm going to start fresh. will update once I try the next step. Going to load the right files onto sd then streakmod with multirecovery tool and then try to boot into streadroid by pulling the battery out and not letting it self reboot.
Under the advanced option in streakmod is an option to mount your sd card. Choose it and your sd card will appear in windows explorer.
You do not have to have root to flash and use StreakMod - you do have to flash it and then either reboot using the fastboot command and go right into recovery mode or do a battery pull and restart.
some reading:
Using StreakMod
Prevent overwriting of custom recovery
So...update...I tried to multirecovery tool option 11 Streakmod recovery in fastboot mode it kept giving me this message cant upload/admin user/... then it would proceed to succesful... so thinking that it successceded so I figure lets try this one more time load from sd update.pkg
message given was...
Assert failed: !less_than_int(1297160324. getprop("ro.build.date.utc"))
E:Error in /sdcard/update.pkg.dec
(Status 7)
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:can't open: recovery/log
it restarted gave me the good ol white and black dell then the multicolor flash and then hanged on the white dell logo for 10 mins before i decided to pull the battery and see what now.
UPDATE: i did a battery pull for 20 mins restarted and it finally booted into froyo 2.2 (att rom) hmmm...? now to finally root to a more stable and better rom let the rooting and modding begin! hopefully this wont be an issue still wondering why it said error on this and status 7 anyone?
here's the problem with doing that. Something is putting such a drain on the phone that by the tim i have to boot if I don't give it a good five to ten mins to reset when I do reset it hangs on the dell screen or when I try to boot into a flash recovery mode it only gives me the stock recovery screen....? confused at this point where to go from this point. but if I have to brick I have to brick and rebuild again here's the current numbes.
android version 2.2
baseband version GAUSB 135331-US
Kernel 2.6.32.9 perf
OEM version GAUSB 135331
Build 15697
without touching it or using any features that would use the GPS it hasn't reset for over an hour 1:45 time on to streak mod preferably something more stable than the ATT Rom
I tip my hat to you. I am happy to see someone wanting to genuinely learn how to mod their streak without being spoon fed every answer. I have been getting sick of seeing all the incompetencies on the Streak forums. Thank you for brightening my evening with your desire to learn.
Good luck in your Streaking endeavours.

Only way to learn is to actually do something...you can't learn to fly if you don't jump, but I'm pretty sure that when people slam into the ground I'm sure they had more imput on how to stay in the air longer or eventually to not slam back into the ground...Question if I change the rom that I put in the sd card and relabel it as update.pkg with the stock recovery will that give us bad results aka as BRICKING the phone my question really is the rom more like the OS on a pc system and the recovery more like a bios?? reason why I'm asking is this streak is so unstable at times that I have to do battery pulls for hours before I can get a full restart. So I wanted to load a rom in there and restore from update.pkg but start with a rom that doesn't use as much system such as 1.6 to see if the reset comes from having a 2.2 that from what I've read ATT never tested enough to send out. to see if I could actually use it or if it's hardware causing all the restarts (guessing a bad internal sim) from what I've read. And thank you to everyone's imput that has made me learn a ton about this device. hopefully someday I can use it as my main device but working in a market where I'm required to have a working cell for straight 9 hours means I'm pushed to the awesome atrix wich I have to say it's a tough lil phone. Again thank you and to streaking I go!
so the Streak has gone streaking...
Apparently is not what we were doing wrong but we really had a bad streak The cpu was overheating anytime it had real heavy load on it and it will shutdown and reset over and over and over as it kept restarting everytime it needed to cool down so DELL AMAZINGLY HAS STEPPED UP and sent me a replacement device! since the STREAK is no longer being replaced they are sending me a Venue HEY I could complaint but the fact that it was out of warranty and they are doing everything in power to replace the unit wich should arrive soon is the only reason why I'm not continuing on working on the streak but!!! streak and Venue look like they are carrying the same software so ON TO A MORE RELIABLE PHONE AND MORE LEARNING THANK YOU FOR EVERYONE AND THEIR IMPUT! I can't wait till I have a flashed Rom at work and people say WAIT MY ANDROID DOESN'T DO THAT! SO ON TO LEARNING OTHER THINGS BY READING! ANY GOOD GUIDES TO READ OVER ALL PLEASE PLACE YOUR " YOU SHOULD READ THIS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WORLD OF ANDROID DEVELOPING"
I have asked about this before, but now I'm here to inform. If you have the problem of not being able to flash roms, and it says something like
''Installing: SDCARD:update.zip
Finding update package...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip

There is a semi-simple fix. This issue is happening because for whatever reason, a certain directory in your internal sd card can not be read. It can happen for 2 reasons. 1. Your inner sd card reader is fried (but if that was the case, chances are you can't boot your phone either) or more likely
2. Your innersd card needs to be reformatted. If I had to come up with a reason, it would have to be that somehow, when your innersd card was formatted, it never created that directory. I'm not sure on the reason for that happening. Anyway, the solution is simple (though part of it is a pain in the butt). Again, you have 2 choices.
1. Take your phone COMPLETELY apart, to be able to get to your inner sd, so you can format or replace it. Or the much easier, though still a pain in the butt option of
2. Cutting off the plastic above your innersd. This can be easy, but chances are, it won't be pretty. Mine wasn't. Some have been able to make it a pretty clean cut, but I wasn't able to. The reason I say this is easier is because it's a lot easier to mess up a phone, if you take it apart. You have to worry about esd (Electro Static Discharge), worry about smudging the screen (though, if memory serves me right, the screen to this phone is actually stuck to the gorilla glass), as well as you have to worry about every single little piece in the phone... Another reason cutting off the plastic piece would be a better solution is you don't have to do it everytime you need to get to your innersd. It's a once and done deal. Anyway, on to what I did to fix this issue.
I first started having this error, when trying to go from 1.9 to 1.9.1. I gave up on it for a while, until I saw that GingerStreak came out. I was really excited. I wanted to get Gingerbread on my phone! It's faster. It drains less battery... I wanted it. With hours of help from lordmorphous, we determined the problem, and he told me to cut the plastic above it, and replace the innersd. I did so, and VOILA! It worked! I was ecstatic to have Gingerstreak on my phone! It is faster, and more battery efficient (I could put the cpu down to 384 with almost no lag). But it restarts itself... At first, it was a couple times a day. That I could live with... But it got to the point where it happened every half hour, to every 2 hours. Everytime it reset, it would turn off my alarm. I wouldn't wake up on time, when I needed to. And it was just a big pain in the ass! Also, sometimes it would even get stuck on the Dell logo, DRAINING battery like crazy! So, I looked it up, and found out that that was simply a glitch in Gingerstreak, and that DSC didn't have that glitch, HUZZAH! So, I put the zip file for DSC 0.72 on my phone, and try to flash... But I got that error again... The way I fixed it this time, I just switched the internal and external sd cards. Worked just fine. And you just switch the cards back, when you're done. Sorry for this big story, but my fingers wouldn't stop typing. :3
PS. You might have to format both, after switching. Just format the internal via Streakmod, and the external via phone settings.
Dell streak won't start
Hi
I tried to run the following command in fastboot mode after flashing to 407 ROM
fastboot -w reboot
wishing to clear all the cache data and my phone won't start. Doesn't show any thing on the screen. Is there anything i can do to start my phone??
All these happened while i was trying to root my DS.
Thanks in advance
If you did a "fastboot -w", you have a brick... a virtually unrecoverable brick

WARNING ABOUT FASTBOOT: Do not attempt to use fastboot erase or fastboot -w on the Streak
The fastboot program on the streak has issues and attempting to erase partitions with it may result in it hanging.
If it hangs the Streak will not be able to start up and is likely not rescuable by any manner (including QDL Tool)
Use factory reset via recovery mode instead.

Hi Radimus thank you so much.
I appreciate the time you spent to help and give your advices and expertise to all the newbies like me.
Well i think i bricked my DS and can't even repair it since there is no Dell's service center in my country(Nepal). Since it is still has warranty I was thinking to send it back to UK (where i bought it) last year but since i had changed from custom ROM i don't think the warranty still valid.
So I think I'm gonna have to give it up, but I'm gonna get the same again.......
best phone ever...
Carrire locked
hi everyone,
since i bricked my DS (apparently) i gave it to a local repair center run by a friend of mine. He was able to give it a new life , but the only problem is that it is now locked!!! Since my DS was a factory unlocked i didn't have a unlock code or anything like that to unlock it and i don't think the guys from dell would give any random code to unlock it now. so is there any way out of it???
Hello Everyone, I'm totally lost Usually I can figure these things out myself by just following the directions but this phone is confusing. Not to mention I have no idea what was done to it.
I bought a used Dell Streak 5 after my phone took a dive down a flight of stairs (RIP phone). I thought this Streak was stock since that's what he posted in his ad, but apparently the guy rooted it and has an old version of the DSC rom on it (1.0 I believe). I do not like this rom at all, either because it needs to be updated or because something is wrong with this phone, I don't know. It reboots itself, even while I am on the phone, hangs constantly even when I try to do simple things like open a web page (I'm not expecting much out of a 3 year old phone--email, texting, web browsing, light app use like eBay etc). I want to either restore it to stock or put an updated custom rom on it, but 1) I have no idea what this guy did to it; there doesn't seem to be any recovery software on the phone and 2) every time I follow the directions here (rename the file update.pkg, press both volume buttons while pressing power etc), I get the option to update via the SD card, but after I choose that the phone restarts and hangs on the Dell logo, which forces me to pull the battery and then I'm stuck just going back to the home screen with this rom on here.
I don't know if it's me being stupid (if it is please tell me and if possible, please steer me in the right direction ) or if it's something this guy did to the phone. I can't return it (I would have already if I could). Thanks!
Well, you should certainly be able to restore it to stock, but I'm going to recommend using the current version of DSC and installing a custom recovery. However, before you get to that point we need to make sure your recovery is properly installed.
Your starting point is this thread: Everything you wanted to know about the Streak but were too busy bricking it. Within it you will find a link to the Dell Streak Flashing Guide, which will give you directions on how to enter into fastboot mode. You will also need to get the Dell drivers for ADB, or else the Streak will not be recognized in Windows. You'll find them here.
Once you are familiar with getting into fastboot mode and have the drivers installed, download MultiFlasher from the link in my signature and extract the files within the zip file to a directory on the root of your hard drive. Put your Streak into Fastboot mode, connect the Streak to the PC using the Streak's cable, then run MultiFlasher and follow the prompts to install the recovery image.
For DSC and all rooted stock ROMs I recommend installing Streakmod Recovery (included with MultiFlasher) as ClockworkMod recovery (also included) has an issue with hanging while attempting nandroid backups on stock ROMs.
