Hi All,
I have started using X10i a month or so back and so far have been flashing many ROMS and finally settled on CM6 mod by [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01] : by http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1022236
However now i am moving to the next step which i thing would be to mod my own ROM. however after looking at the whole forum i was not able to find some straight forward startup guide for this.
can anyone help me on this.
It takes years of learning coding... only by creating this thread, you've shown us that your uncapable of doing that.
ohk so i have checked again the whole forum
found : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697938
let me seep that in and then will firein more targetted question .....

he just need the way .. weather he wil be able to follow the way or not cannot be decided by YOU bro.. dnt be rude... just encourage young developers... And if you dont wish to help them then dnt help (i.e want you have done).. BUT at the same time ATLEAST dont discourage them...
Well, are you interested in modding the ROM in its core,
or applying modifications like themes, framework-res changes and tweaks?
Because if the latter is the case, it's quite easy.
You just open the ROM zip and tweak yourself away!
But if you actually want to build a ROM, then, as it has been already said,
it is not easy.

Yeah ur are 100% correct mate... and this is the way to spread education ... not by the way of getting rude... and 2ndly yeah building rom is not easy but everything shud be tried then only +ive results can be achived..
Thanks for the tip buddy seems like i will start with some tweaks and move forward to custom ROMS as i gain more traction in the whole android world.

and you have shown that you are incapable of spelling. Its called karma. You give an attitude, expect one back. So he wants to learn, there is no need to bash somebody for it.
So there is now a general list of most of the kernels available.. but what about Mods? Stuff like the modified boot menu (which I just flashed ). It would be nice (if possible) if there were a list of single/individual mods for things that people randomly have preferences for (e.g. 4 or 6 bars for signal strength and circle or regular battery etc).
Anyone else agree?

this is too hard to do as every rom has different frameworks, apks etc. cant really make a "general" mod that will work for everyone.

Nonono not a general mod! A list of mods that each do single, specific things.
*edit* nevermind I see what you are saying. But would it be too difficult to do something like the Mod for the expanded boot menu? There were only two versions (one for deodex and one for odex) that worked pretty broadly.
agreed would be nice...but sooooo difficult!!!
what's a mod???
a single icon change??? how about a group of icons??? transparent pulldown bar??? how bout translucent pulldown??? theme's, icons, skins, deodexed, odexed, sense, non-sense, aosp...
it's just too much

I was thinking more along the lines of just the single icon change ones. I guess it would be quite a bit :/

I was thinking about just that. I'd need to learn everything from scratch (not sure how to do any of it) and only have relatively basic knowledge of programming. Only a freshman in college! Don't have much free time but I will definitely get on it.
for a second there I thought the OP was looking for moderators who were single.

So since there's only about 5 or 6 custom ROM's at the moment I took the liberty of creating a quick site to compare the ROM's. I put them in a comparison table side-by-side, put a link to download them (off my own site [so this can be used as a mirror]) and put a link to my own personal thoughts/semi-informal review of each ROM and included screen-shots of the ROM (90% of it I took myself).
I wanted to share the link/site with you to see what you think. I'm going to try and stay on top of updates and such, and each page on the site has a way for you to leave a comment. So if you have any suggestions or problems, feel free to comment there (or here). Also, if you want to submit your own review, thoughts, suggestions, etc. the site has a way for you to post it and I can look it over and publish it. I'd love for this not to be a one man show. If you have extensive experience with one of the ROM's and want to throw in your own review, post it there and I'll make it live and link to it in the comparison table.
I know I'm going to get blasted, told how stupid and useless the site is, etc. etc. and I'm prepared for that, but maybe you could also include a quick note on why it's stupid, what I need to add, how better to improve it, etc. you know, constructive criticism. I do know it's ugly and using a crappy default skin, but I was more concerned on getting content in there right now vs the look and feel of the actual thing; I'll get around to it, eventually. Anyways, I'm only trying to help.
http://sgs2.glitchsys.com/
Thank you, this is very helpful to a newcomer to Android. I'll try to find time to read through the reviews, as I want to find the right ROM without the hassle of flashing each one (but I guess you'll never know which one works best for you unless you try it...). The comparison table helps a lot.
Nice compilation! Was worth a read! Thanks for gathering all these into one
This is awesome! Many thanks. I had asked to setup something similar a while back with all the Galaxy Tab ROMs. Never took off. I can definitely see that this could take a bit of work keeping it current. Hopefully folks will help out in that area.
i like the work u did...
Thanks for this! Really helpful to new guys.
Serendipity is at 8.1; added the file to the server, updated the Download link and included his changes in the table. It's all good.
i dont think that site is stupid at all. I think it'll help a lot of the newbies but that takes a lot of work to update. As long as it stays updated, I dont see how anyone can say that its a bad idea.
One issue that the devs MIGHT have is that you saved their ROMs and update files to your own server. I know some devs dont like that (at least some on the captivate section didn't) but maybe thats different, here.
Really nice to see all the listed items in there, I know it would be hard to list them all but but maybe point out in the CM7 section more (if not including all seperately) the Modifications, Theme Chooser, Etc. that are built into CM7 by design without the need for more apps, rom tweaks. Also note that the CM7 camera does not have the same options as stock and how the video recording rate is not the 30 fps as with the stock roms. I am trying to be impartial here but thought I would note that looking at your site would make some think CM7 didn't have much to it, when in fact it has many options and setting built in that are not available to stock roms or how stock roms would need some other changes to get things to work the same. On another note the ONLY downfall I see with CM7 is the contact searching would be nicer to have a letter on the side.of the screen like stock does so I don't have to scroll all the way down to find a contact and would be nice to have speed dial working without another app from the market.
Just trying to point out a few plus's and minuses of CM7 to help you add to your great comparison site.

Nice work -- the only suggestion I would make is that UnNamed's section is huge compared to the others - so unless you are specifically recommending that one, you may want to equalize the columns.
But other than that -- I think a very helpful resource for folks who are new to the phone looking to get a quick comparison of which ROM to try first!
@RockRatt can I use some of your wording in my review? I'll update my CM7 section/review but you wrote a lot of nice ideas.

Can anybody tell me which are the top most downloaded for each year 2011 and 2012 roms right know, that are fully working
would u mind if u tell me which are senseless and which one have sense ( the ones that have HTC sense on them) plz
thanks in advance : )
What do you mean by "top rom"? The most downloaded? The latest software? The fastest?
Either way, like I tell everyone who asks this, there is no "best rom" for everyone. Everyone has different needs/wants in a rom. The beauty of rooting is you can try out a rom for a few days, and if you don't like it, flash another. Just try out a few and see what you like.

Mean ROM and Clean ROM are the two best daily drivers you can find!!!!
They are fast, stable and good on the battery.
Also, great dev support.

I don't think he was saying that viperROM doesn't have good support, but rather that MeanROM does have great support.
I have been using Fresh. I don't know if it is the best or even good. It works well for me and I need my phone for grown-up (work) things, so I don't have time to try them all out. I wish someone would tell me which one is great and uses sense and has the most going for it.
Lol stock builds you tend to squeeze some nice battery life from. But again it boils down to what the op prefers.
Nothin is top lol. Most devs offer support if you get stuck . I offer help on my own builds or to whoever needs help . I bounce around here.
Most builds have dates that tell you how new it is. If you go to a overclocked rom your battery life won't be the best. Just depends on what you want.

You're asking us to go research every ROM for 2011 and 2012 and rank them in order for the 3d? Sorry brah. You could probably take a good guess by clicking on the development section, and see which ones are constantly posted to (popularity), which translates to downloads.

I think everybody is looking for a little wondering different in a ROM, so the answer to your question is 100% subjective.
After I rooted my 3vo, I flashed a new ROM nearly every 1-2 weeks, looking for that "perfect" ROM.
I have found two that I like enough to hold onto:
CleanRom
Viper
Just for the record, there are many ROMs I have not tried, so that's not to say there aren't others just as good.

There isn't a good way to find that answer since every rom is downloaded a insane amount and no one keeps track of downloads.... Devs are too busy whippin new things up
I agree with everyone and no one. MIUI is pretty popular I personally know about 15 people who are running that. Viper is another good one. Until we get something like Google Play for ROM's no one will ever know the answer. I have seen several blogs and what not that are titled something like "MOST POPULAR ROM's" but after reading them it would seem that they are ALL based on opinion and nothing more. I use more broken ROM's then ones where everything works so if there where a pole that met your criteria I wouldn't even be able to vote!
Which that the admins would start tracking the download and views it would make it so much easier to search
Remember when I had my hacked PSP I used to search themes and other stuff and there where all organize by popularity. Download times. Ect

Ey OnePlus 6 users
As you may know, in OnePlus 6 Android P developer preview 2, you can choose your accent color in RGB using their HEX code
Since I discovered this feature, I'm literally playing with it, changing accents every day, or few days !
I'm currently using #b71c1c which is a Material red tint.
I'm using two websites to pick cool hex colors :
https://www.materialpalette.com/colors which is a Material colors picker
I'm using this website as well, using pastel colors from their palettes :
http://www.color-hex.com/color-palette/5361
Feel free to share screenshots with your accent color

Actually you are both wrong. You're posting in a themes and apps section. Is there anyone on this thread offering a theme to download or an app to download? Sharing your experience with a feature built into software doesn't count. Maybe it would make sense if it was in the Guides News and Discussion section.
this feature must be in Android OS from day one !!
Google keeps way too many employees with broken hands as well as way too high number of designers with complete absence of any style sense !!
Huge shame on Google !!
and huge shame on Oneplus for not fixing it on their phone !!

It definitely relies in theming. Themes and apps section doesn't require a download link to an app. At least for me, Themes and apps are for customization, and I think it makes perfectly sense for this thread to be here, but of course it's fine if mods think it should reside elsewhere. But well, the thread makes sense and that all that matters.

Opinions are fine. No issues with them. But the op didn't just talk about something random, he did bring something useful for people if they want to be able to find hex codes for colors in the beta builds. So it's not pure reading and misleading. And not to mention, we will all be getting that color thing in the future Android P release so all will benefit knowing where to find color hex codes.
