hello guys
Im new to the forum. just have a quick question for you all.
I have done hours of research and come up with nothing to help me solve my problem.
here goes..
so i have the samsung galaxy sIII and i use it to tether with my ps3, but when i am getting a strict nat type.( no good lol )
so realy my question is, is it possible to get custom firmware to get around this problem. i emailed samsung about this and they said that only custom firmware would sort my problem. is this true? any one any ideas?
i used to own a i used to own a zte racer wich did the same(strict nat type). I flashed that with a custom rom and abracadabra open nat type.
so please if you nice people have any info or suggestions on this it would be very much appreciated.
thanks
If you have a rooted device you can type:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
To enable ip forwarding.
You might need to use iptables to change routing.

Thanks for a quick reply. Could you please help me out with this. It's all new to me lol

Off the top of my head, I can't, maybe when I get home from work.
To root your device there are plenty of threads that can help you. There is also a cm9 (a custom rom) build out there that supports the sgs3. As well as plenty of instructional posts.

Ok thanks. My device is already rooted. If I could do it without custom rooms that would be better but if it has to be done I'll do it lol.

I am able to tether but I get a strict Nat type when playing call of duty and some other game.
I still haven't found a solution to this. Samsung told me if I install a custom from that would sort it. I have tried several but still not luck.
when i was tethering from my sensation i too would get a strict NAT type but i was still able to play, im not sure what strict NAT type is. i just want to be able to connect so i can enjoy some online play. im using a custom rom now but its Samsung based. i hope i dont have to go to an AOSP or AOKP based rom.

I tether my ps3 to my GS3 and haven't seen any problems all I had to do was switch off WiFi power saving via the secret menu, (can't recall the dialer code off the top of my head)

I to am on a custom rom that shod not affect anything. All I do is open portable hotspots and put the same details in the ps3 and it should work.
That's all I did. Strict Nat type is where you can only join other people with the same or open Nat.
Its all so will talk longer to find and join games.

Do you have a open or Strict Nat type???
finally got it working but not 100%. when i reboot or turn on the ps3, it will still say connection error but after a moment it will finally connect. sometimes i'll have to turn my data off and then back on. i got to play MW3 online without any lag...i guess thats progress.

It might be your router thats the issue. I have never had any trouble connecting to any wifi spots whether it be at my house our anywhere else.

That's what's weird about. I can connect to my router on stock rom. Just did last night. Then flashed bionix(never worked with any rom) and now I can't connect to my router. But the other day I was running nero and was able to connect to mcdonalds free wifi. So now im confused. Its something with the combination of my router and custom roms cuz stock rom works fine.

I have used a dozen different roms and have never once had a wifi problem. I cant imagine what the problem is, but you have one on your side.

Or if this doesn't work, set up a static ip on your phone: menu>settings>wireless> wifi> press menu softkey> advanced> Check static ip and set it according to your router.

The deleting of the two files didn't work for me either. Actually the second file (dhcp_list) wasn't even in my files. Only the first. When I try and connect I don't even get to the 'obtaining ip address'. It just says connecting then says disconnected. It loops saying that. Thanks for the info tho guys

Alright, Currently I have the 2.3.4 gingerbread version of the Atrix rooted. For some reason I can not get any of the wireless tethering root apps to work. This includes Wireless tether for root users, wifi tether and barnacle. None of these would work on my previous 2.2.2 root either. Any help? the logs say the programs are running fine but none of my devices can pick up the phone. This includes laptops and me Eee Pad. I have changed the SSID, added and removed wep. I do not know what I am doing wrong....
I know this probably won't help much but the same thing was happening to me when I first rooted my Atrix and the Wireless Tether app. I turned off the password and everything worked fine after that. I can always see who is trying to connect to my network anyway so I know if anybody is trying to steal my network.

Why not root and change the entitlement check then use the built in mobile hotspot app.
I've been using it with no problem and used the custom apn method before GB

They can tell much easier that you are tethering without a plan if you are using custom APN's.
The custom apn will not work on gingerbread. The ota will not allow changes like froyo did.

Hi guys,
Im trying to help a friend, He has the Verizon Samsung Fascinate, the phone is rooted, has super user. I Dl'd and installed the Android wifi tether 2.07apk from the google dev site. started up the app. started tether without issue, looked on my Toshiba Thrive Tablet, found the android tether wifi, tried to connect and message pops up on my tablet stating something about adhoc is not supported.
I have a Droid Incredible running Nil's sense 3.5 rom and have the same android tether app, I can start up tethering, turn tethering on, connect and surf the web on my tablet, with no mention of the adhoc compatibility thing.
Im not up on Samsung devices, I have always had HTC phones. So im not sure if this a Samsung issue or what.
I compared his tether app settings to mine and both are the same.
Im at a loss here and could really use some advice about how to fix the issue.
Thanks
Hitch
Try downloading the newer version 3 beta 6 from here http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta6.apk&can=2&q=
Be sure to go into settings and change device-profile to samsung fascinate.
It may work with that version...

Thanks for moving the thread, I had posted another topic in the Q&A.
The good news is 96 people have read the post, the bad news is not one person posted any ideas, This usually happens when you cannot post in the rooted section.
Still hoping someone has some ideas to help out.

Which rom is installed? Is it just stock Touchwiz with root? I ask because if your friend is willing to try CM7, the built-in tethering works beautifully.

its called Evil Fascinate from the samsung galaxy forums. I told him he needs to start getting his roms from here, he just rooted for the first and has a lot to learn.
I know he likes roms that are really themed, If you any suggestions for a stable, themed rom that has tether baked in I will flash it for him and see if he likes it.
Thanks

I have tried barnicle, but We get the same message when trying to connect from our tablet to the phone (AdHoc is not supported) and it wont connect, no matter what tether app I try I get the AdHoc not supported message.
I dont get this message when tethering my tablet to my Droid Incredible.
Thats why I was thinking it had to do with Samsung firmware, but I really have no idea and Im hoping that you Samsung guys can get my friend fixed up.
An easier question might be "what tether app do you use on your Fascinate"
Hitch
I use open garden, but I have never tried tethering to a tablet...only pc's.
Meh, easy fix for the ad-hoc thing. In wifi tether (I use pre10, 6 should work) go to settings, set your device profile to Google NexusOne and your setup method to Netd (master) and it will run in infrastructure mode and run fine. Tablets will connect and receive internet.
Just curious as to what everyone uses to tether over wifi? I tried barnacle but my tablet won't find the network, barnacle works fine on my attic but not the S2. Any particular reason?

Its honestly about how much data you end up using, if you go crazy and start using 50gb then they will want to switch you.
They give warnings before they do anything and they are starting to throttle people after a certain point.
You can try this for USB Tethering - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424676
He claims to found a way to hide it but they still know how much data you use.
Basically, don't use a desktop browser. It's one of the #1 ways to get the tether police on your ass. People are getting nastygrams after only using the "desktop useragent" feature of Dolphin HD 2-3 times.
Otherwise, native tethering (remove TetheringManager2.apk if on a stock ROM) works best. Only one that isn't adhoc.
OK. So I was in iHell for a few years and got pretty good with the file system/ jailbreaking. So I've since been paroled (from Jail-breaking :l ) and PRESTO!!! Im a noob again.
Im still debating on flashing but im gonna root for sure. I need to check my facts here. I can root via any mentioned method. I'll need to install titanium (?) to freeze that network check to use the native hotspots. (The name of that file escapes me but I can search it up later)
Anything else for now? Is busybox worth it?
On a semi-related note, I've not had multiple ROMs available to me. What's the benifit to other Roms? I mean what does CM have that stock doesn't? Is there a break down or spread sheet to compare capabilities?
This may sound goofy, but I can already do everything that I wanted my old iPhone to do on stock, but if flashing will bring more, cooler, and
as yet unimagined toys to my newly Android enriched life, I'm all about flashing. What say you XDA?
Sorry for the long post. Caffeine makes me type a lot.

Well follow the guide inn general about how to flash custom binaries, it'll help. Also, most rooms take care of the tetheringmanager2.apk sup you don't need to do anything else, it works out of the box. Make sure to use a mobile user agent while browsing, and you should be fine.
As a starting point, I suggest unnamed or icscrewed (both roms I've personally tried and that both are great)
The most common side effect of having a custom ROM is the desire to show it off, awesome battery life, good support and limitless customization. Just read before you do anything and you'll be golden.

Well you could always search...there is an app that is for tethering and I used it at one point to get around the fact that stock froyo didn't have wifi tether. There are many ways to do it. You can use blue tooth or wifi and even a USB. So in reality you just need an app PDA net can do it via USB or BT AND I know there are ones that do Wi-Fi and if you Google it they should show up ( search appbrain.com and read reviews )

You do know this is a WP7 device, why do you keep mentioning android related stuff, CM9 CM7, Root, all android Froyo on the titan even more
I have an At&t Titan too and I live in İstanbul, Turkey. My carrier is Vodafone also and can use internet sharing. For this all you need a 2gb micro SD card and a card reader and a Y cable ( too easy yo prepare or you can get it from a store on the net ). There are many turtorials in the XDA , just prepare a GOLD card and put the 2.01 or 2,05 europe firmware in the gold card and rename it as ETERIMG.nbh , follow the steps for Y cable flashing and you will have a debranded HTC Titan witj all functions available.
Ps: sorry for my English , I am a just 6 months student

Found the solution
Hi,
I think I have found the solution to this issue (a lill time consuming though).. It wasn't working for me and after doing the following I am able to do the internet sharing on my unlocked AT&T HTC Titan...
First you need to reset your phone to factory settings by doing the following (beware that all your personal data, applications and settings will be gone so better sync your phone with your PC first.. ):
Go into settings->about->reset your phone (you might need to scroll to the bottom). It confirms twice.. do that to reset your phone
After the phone is back on, try setting it up as your would do to a new device.
*** HTC Connection Wizard or Setup(whatever is that app called) seems to be the culprit so DO NOT install that app ever if you want the tethering to work.. It seems it resets some registereis as soon as it is switched on which blocks the tethering there after**
You might want to use 'reinstaller' app from the market place which will help you get all your previously installed apps by connecting to the Windows Live account and going through the list of apps you ever installed using that Windows live account. This process is the most tedious one but still better then nothing..
Once all this is done, connect your phone back to your PC and sync back in all the content that you lost from your cell while resetting.
Hope this helps.
I will give it a try today. Will let you know if it works.

why nokia dont have this option till now? they wait till tango and than this option will be anvailable....or u become a phone with tango on board and u have this feature...

So, does it work ???
So we're saying the solution to getting internet sharing working on AT&T is just to wipe the phone? Seems like someone would have stumbled into that at some point by now. Would be great if its true. Has anyone else tried this yet?
