Still worth buying? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm coming up to the end of my contract, so I'm in the market for a new (or at least different) phone. I currently have an HTC Desire, and I wanted the Streak not long after it was out - however I've been locked in contract...
My first thought was the Galaxy Note, but I can't get it for less than £35-£45 per month (if I want the phone for free or a reasonable price); the amount of minutes & texts I'd get for that price is crazy, I wouldn't even use half of it... I can't afford to buy the Note - or any new(ish) android phone - outright, but I could get the Streak at current eBay prices.
How well does the streak 5 handle newer versions of Android? Can it still hold it's own against more modern phones? Does the performance suffer? Do we actually have a working/stable ICS port yet? Are there any pitfalls with flashing/rooting?

Streak is the best phone that you can buy,It is strong enough.

no worry.. streak 5 is rock solid... it is still competitive in android market...
the performance does not suffer at all...
we have a pre-alpha ics right now...
if you afraid of any pitfall, i suggest you read all of the information available in the forum or get someone who knows how to do it properly...

Go for it, pay about 10 pence though, on mine the PDMI socket just fell apart... so its a good device, but the PDMI socket is not mechanically sound at all, also the earpiece didn't work from brand new and meant it also had to go back for repair.

The performance day-to-day will be on par with your Desire. I used a Streak for almost a year (much longer than I used any other smartphone). For me, the Streak is easily up there on the list of my all-time favourite devices.
There is not a stable, working ICS port yet. That said, performance under Gingerbread, with thanks to the small but very dedicated Development team here, is excellent for daily use.
Side-by-side with a Note, the Streak shows its age - no doubts about it. For what it is today though - performance is admirable. There are days where I still go back and try out a new ROM (I'll always keep my Streak), or daily-drive it for a week just for nostalgia.
If I'm honest, I've never enjoyed a phone as much as I did the Streak. It's nice to have all the latest bells and whistles, but if you can live with the form factor, you'll be very happy with it.
On paper it's not much of an 'upgrade', hardware- or software-wise. But in terms of usability and productivity, it will blow your Desire away.
Pick one up and give it a try. Prices these days are good. I don't think you'll be disappointed :good:

I have seen the note for £20.50 a month on orange but only 100 mins etc at cpw.
seen the streak on ebay ones going today for under £100.
You could try the Huawei G300 unlock is v cheap on ebay then giffgaff it.
I have one its nice mobile and 4" screen is very good, better then some High end one's I have had..

Cheers for the advice all.
Picked up a used Streak last night for £117 on fleaBay, which includes three cases (!) and a spare battery. It's still locked to o2, but I've already located the unlocking software. If I can't unlock it to my current network (T-Mobile), I'll just go to GiffGaff when my contract is up. I'd prefer Three though, as their monthly-by-month plan includes tethering, and no one else's does (though they are more expensive).
Now to sell my poor old Desire... *sniff*.

So what ROM you're using now?

Currently using Longhorn 2.8. I have looked at using the CM7 build posted here, though; I don't like the default portrait lock screen and dialling screen - I have quite big hands, so one-handed operation of this phone is not a problem .

Dell streak 5 been launched a little bit late at my country...:crying:, if I'm not mistaken, launch in Malaysia around April or Mei, 2011. I bought it in the mid of October, 2011 and still using it until now.
DS5 never disappoint me.. The best ever smartphone i ever use, even though currently, i have Samsung Galaxy S II I9100G and LG Optimus 2X P990, but still DS5 still the best. The performance of the phone still good for daily use and for my point of view, didn't have so much different with other latest model out there...:good:

I would say YES most definitly. I have had mine now since it first hit the shores in UK and with the number of devs working with the streak it has always managed to stay current.
I think Dell did not do enough to market the streak when it was first released and they did not do much to help devs in the way of support either, but the love for the streak has kept it current until now and I have to say Long May It Continue.

My two cents. I moved to the US and got Sprint and their version of the GS2. I love that device. I'm in the UK for a month and I needed a GSM phone so I went back to the Streak. It's still a good phone but it's definitely showing it's age. All of this is compared to the GS2 which I think was the best phone from last year. First off, the Streak is heavy as hell. When I'm sitting at my desk, I have to take the Streak out of my pocket. It's just too heavy. Yes, the Streak has metal for the case and the GS2 is all plastic but the GS2 feels just as solid and and like half the weight. Performance-wise, the Streak is noticeably slower. I get pretty serious lag all the time. Lastly, the screen just isn't very bright and the reflection in sunlight is bad making it almost unreadable. I loved the Streak before and it's still a decent phone with all the developers improving it (I'm on Longhorn 2.8 btw) but honestly, it's 2 generations old now so to say it's still as good as what's out on the market now is just not credible. I dream about the Note 2 and will get that as soon as it launches. It's basically what Dell should have built as the Streak 2.

[Q] Would you buy a Streak now?

After having and using the Streak for several months, would you buy one today? It's getting to be the time of the year when the carriers/manufacturers start putting out new devices, and with some of the rumored and confirmed Android devices due out this Spring/Summer plus the iPhone 5 this fall, is it worth it to get one now?
It is worth it if you like the formfactor (5") only.. I have had one for an half year, and I still love it, but it's more of an Wifi tablet for the house than a phone now...
GodoPPL
+1
I love the 5" screen ... Would buy one again if this one craps out.
For sure if you want the largest screen phone, there's no others.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
yes, without a doubt.
For 200-350 unlocked it's worth it for the screen size.
It's replaced my iPhone, but it's not perfect.
Screen range of backlight is small , speaker on the back is not that great, camera poor, but for web use the large screen makes it the worthwhile, also had to apply a dpi hack.
Streak + iPad is a great combo.
Yep, for at&t it is still far and above the best android option. The atrix would be cool but a locked bootloader is a red flag for me. I would definitely purchase it again today.
Yes - I would.
Definitely. There is still nothing close to it and its lovely 5" screen - whenever I pick up anyone else's phone now, I just think, OMG that screen is SOOOOOO small!!!
The only thing I'd really like it to have is a physical keyboard - but only sometimes.... somebody make me a case with a nice keyboard built in please
I just did! $99 with new computer purchase from Dell.
well, since the streak came out, att has gotten 4g, though its only hspa+ right now and not lte, the network speed is about to hit the hspa cap. theres now new phones with higher resolution screens, cameras, and performance specs. the atrix with its dual core processor is a very fast phone, but i think what i would buy (if it was lte) is the samsung infuse. itll be a few months before i consider a new phone.
In a heartbeat.

I think I would wait a little longer,to me this device has been a little buggy from day one, besides that the quality of the camera is a little pathetic when it is dark.
The lcd is another reason to buy a diferent device,I really like the 5inch screen and the battery life.I also think the infuse could be my next choice.
I love my streak. I would definitely buy it again.

Yes and yes to streak 2 when it serf ices
Just did.
$49 on contract from AT&T, for my father. Got him updated to FroYo (build 340) and so far he likes it.
The 5" screen is what makes it so nice. I can't imagine going smaller. My next phone will probably be a 5" form factor (or at least 4.5"). 7" will be too big to use as a phone, and I can't justify having two devices when the Streak works so well.
Just too convenient as both a phone and tablet. It really walks the line of usability, and I can't believe so many people comprimise when they can have it all.
I managed to bust my first streak, but luckily (even though i didnt have insurance) i managed to get the screen fixed for only £60.
I use my streak everywhere and i love it. Its big (which is wonderful) but not too big for my pocket, so its the perfect size. the only time i think it is too big is when i get phonecalls: I put it to my head and people think im listening to a bible or something.
I use mine a lot in lectures, hooked up to a bluetooth keyboard, if it was any smaller, I wouldn't be able to use it like that! (Its also great for high quality films in lectures )
I also use mine as a music player. Its playing music for about 3 hours a day, and its perfect.
All in all: its an iphone killer.
Count me in. dont know what I do without my streak
Lol iphone 5.. That'll happen..
Yes.. I will
New here..Like McDonald, I'm Loving It..!!
Love the big screen.. Would love to buy one more for my wife if she can manage it

[Q] Would you buy the Atrix 4G today?

Hi there. I know there are some threads about this but they are seriously outdated.
I have an Atrix that I bought in the summer off of eBay and I love it. I'm running CM7 Ba2tF and everything works great (I'm getting 3 days of battery with moderate use). Thing is: my girlfriend loves it too, she has an old Nokia and has been thinking about upgrading for a while, so I was thinking about getting her an Atrix for Christmas.
There are some pretty affordable Atrixes on eBay now, but my question is: is it worth it to buy one now?
My girlfriend doesn't need the latest hardware, but it would be nice to have a decent phone (which the Atrix certainly is). She also doesn't need the latest software, but the Atrix seems more than capable to run ICS (either officially or not).
So do you think there are other phones for about the same price on eBay (200-250 €/270-340$) that would be a better deal than the Atrix?
Edit: I forgot to mention that we live in Portugal, and don't have a lot of money, that's the reason for wanting to buy an affordable (possibly used) phone on eBay. It obviously can't have a contract and must be SIM unlocked/easily unlockable.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask. And I apologize for my poor english.
I like it a lot, I think its great. Especially now that Lapdocks are cheap.
Honestly, I'd probably be looking at getting the next great thing if I were buying now. I love my Atrix, but it's already old news imo. There's bigger and badder coming out.
ATRIX is one great phone that brought Motorola from its grave however there are better phones out there now and if u wanna wait, there will be even more.

I agree, but the reason i asked this is because we don't have a lot of money, and we don't live in the USA, so we can't buy new phones for a couple hundred bucks (I should have probably mentioned that). We are looking for an affordable phone, that's also a bit future proof, even if it is not the most recent device out there.

If I were strapped for cash I would get one if I could get a good deal. It's a great phone. I'm just a technoholic, so I'm looking for my next one right now. With 5 phones on our plan, I get 5 times the chance for a nice upgrade!
Yeah you can be waiting for years for the next best thing to come out and never get one because there is another one on its way about to come out also...
I think atrix is a great phone, I had it since the week they came out and still love it. I say get it, it's an awsome phone for the price and the specs that it has.
Although I'm running a different rom on it, I think the stock version runs great too for anyone getting into androids or smartphones.
I came here looking for a thread just like this. Funny how it works out. Thanks
ATT is running a deal to get an Atrix 4g for a penny with contract extension. Being cash strapped and wanting an android device that doesn't suck to replace my old Curve just became an option.
Also consider replacement costs if you don't have insurance. Depending on where you live I am guessing this could be more or less expensive. If you don't have phone insurance through a carrier, you can always ask about adding the phone to your home or renters insurance.
I'd say get it!
The Atrix 4G is anything but an old and budget smartphone.
It still has great specs and even better than some of the latest and greatest.
Just for fun let's compare it to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Atrix has many features the Nexus don't have, like huge battery, hdmi out, webtop, lots of accesories to choose from, a screen that will outlast that on the Nexus due to image burn-in problem on AMOLEDs, ICS capable, memory expansion through micro-sd, fingerprint scanner that really works great, and best of all, CHEAPER!
P.S.- I'm not saying that SGN is not a great phone, but on feature/cost ratio the Atrix blows it out of the water.
I had thought of that, but what about the galaxy s (not the s2)? It is slightly cheaper on ebay, probably because more were sold, and it doesn't have the flash or hdmi out or dual core processor, but it's still a pretty capable phone.
I know there are more than a few posts comparing these two devices out there, and I've seen some of those, but TODAY, would any of you opt for the galaxy S, that is about 40€ cheaper, instead of the Atrix? I am just looking for personal opinions.
Keep in mind that I own an Atrix, and I did a lot of research before buying it, including comparing it with the galaxy S. The point is, the galaxy S was a lot more expensive when i bought my Atrix, and I don't know if i would still buy it, if the prices were as they are today (although I probably would and will again ).

Well the problem I see by purchasing any type of used AMOLED based smartphones is that the buyer runs the risk of getting a device with a burned-in screen.
For those not familiar with this "burn-in" term here's a brief explanation:
AMOLED based screens (even new ones like Super AMOLED +) use organic leds that produce it's own light, so there is no need of an electroluminicent backlight like that on normal LCDs, colors are brilliant (oversaturated to some) but the downside to this new technology is that unfortunately blue leds tend to degrade faster than the other colors, so after just a few months of use (according to reports all around xda and other sites) the user start to see ghosting or burn-in effects on screen, specially visible on whites.
That's one of the primary reasons why we got a change of color scheme starting on Android 2.2 Froyo like dark top task bars where static icons and information tend to burn-in quicker.
So, in conclussion, I would avoid purchasing any AMOLED based smartphone without looking at it first IN PERSON!.
How to check?
Simply hold the device and pump the brightness all the way to the max settings and then have a blank WHITE screen (i.e. maximized or zoomed in blank white web page) and look for ghost images specially where the top bar sits, or even squared and ghostly icons where the program icons used to sit).
There are lots of videos and pictures all over to see what to look for.
Cheers!
Rayan
Definitely get an atrix over galaxy S. Much more powerful phone. The price on galaxy S is artificially high due to demand for replacements from a lot of people that bought them. See that a lot on the used market with the mass consumer market phones just like old iphones.

Forget the old Galaxy...I had one and it was crap. Slow, not enough memory, laggy, Froyo.
I read all the android news every day looking for my next phone. So far the only one that is tempting me is the Motorola Dinara, or XT928 coming to AT&T soon. It is a 4.5 inch screen and true HD 1280 x 960. The ones being delivered to AT&T will have removeable batteries, 1.2 GH dual core, and I like the design. Price will be a factor so I won't be able to actually purchase it till 6 months down the road. Whatever the case the longer you wait the more powerful phone you will get, its just the was it goes.
I think the ATRIX 2 with a fingerprint scanner would be a fantastic device for the $100 asking price. Recently played with one, I liked it.
I was in the same position of yours couple of weeks ago. My budget was around $300-350. I couldn't find any phone better than Atrix 4G on this budget! Man its one of the greatest phone still now in the market & it has the lower price of them all. Its the great phone with a great price! If I had money I'd buy another atrix!

Yes, I would but the Atrix again today. I am not the "chase the hottest thing today" kind of guy.
Atrix has very good specs in dual core CPU and 1 gig of ram. Remember that most phones are still single core.
I will listen to upgrade arguments when there will be a single app that requires more raw hardware power than what Atrix provides.
I would happily purchase the Atrix again today, it's the best phone I've ever had. Ill be waiting for a good quad core phone before I replace mine.

Best Alternative To Discontinued Streak?

What is the best option if your streak has an early retirement? I am thinking the Samsung Galaxy Note or the up and coming IBM 5 Inch Tablet. Any ideas for this endangered species? We need to be thinking about this right now or we will have some serious withdrawals when all of our phones die.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
......there's only 1 device for every Streak users to upgrade to, and this is the Galaxy Note. There's nothing more to say or anything else in the market to consider beside the Note which is far more superior than our Streak! Problem is the price but it is more affordable now on ebay, 600-680usd.
I finally said goodbye to my beloved Streak 5 and sold it off to a happy new home. It served me well, providing just over one year of joy (not without some pains of course). It's a pity that the device reached 'EOL' so soon. I guess Dell decided that Android tablets were not their strength.
Thanks go to all the talented members on this forum for having helped to make the device such a joy to use despite the challenges.
Although I'm sentimental and was sad to let it go, I can't wait to lay my hands on the Galaxy Note asap! As Final5K stated, the Note is the only device for us ex-Streakers now
Unless something changes, probably going the Note route after the 1st of the year. Hopefully the price will drop just a bit after Christmas, and hopefully someone state side picks it up "officially", although I plan to by a carrier unlocked version.
Everyone? But do you think the Samsung Note is going to be as modible as the streak. I mean it seams like you hack the balls of your streak and then glue them back on. I just hope there is a lot of support and hackable/modible support for the Samsung Note!
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
I'd also consider the new galaxy nexus. I know the screen is smaller but it's still a behemoth (hardware- and screensize- wise) with a 4.65'' 720p display.
Regarding the hackability you're better off checking the phones' threads here on xda to get yourself a quick idea of how things are going to evolve. My prediction? the galaxy nexus will be modded, haxxored & supported beyond imagination.
If you think about it, the streak modding community is unfortunately too small. As it has been said over and over many times, the point is not that dj steve, fards and all the other few great guys are not "good enough", but the strength of the hacking/ROM community is in the BIG numbers, and you can bet your house the galaxy nexus will deliver.
Not sure about the galaxy note though. As the streak, its size makes it a niche device, and although sammy is supporting his product way better than dell (at least with proper advertising, clear upgrade schedules etc) i guess the big numbers of the above will not come to the note.
therefore, for my next phone I'm willing to sacrifice a small amount of screen real estate in favor of an incredibly bigger community, with all the benefits/ major geekery that come with it. I'll surely keep an eye on the note though, since it will take a while before I change device. Who knows, I could be proved wrong..
Not so sure about the Note
before reading the comment on the galaxy note's thread, i would've agreed with you about it to be the "after streak" phone.
i was really interested in buying a Note, but now i'm not so sure, because i've read too much comments about screen, gps and bluetooth problems.
i don't know, it looks like a good device, but too many users wrote about the same problems, so i don't know what to do

If you look at the Streak forums here, you will also see many people whining about the Streak. So, unless you are ready to do some compromise, every phone has its flaws. Nearly every forums on the xda have people complaining about problems - there is no exception!
My 1 year old white best buy unlocked Streak is a totally perfect device for me. Yes as with any phone out there it used to have its flaws. And lately the microphone does perform too good.
I am a huge reader, reading absolutely everywhere and everytime. Actually I was reading when I realized I wanted to check xda a couple of minutes ago. And yes, it is my Dell Streak that I read on. For me it's almost flawless.
But I made up my mind to try something else. I used to have one of the very 1st iphones out there. And I believe I was one of the first users out there who threw up on it and sold it because of its...hm...I'd say incomplexity. I used to own all the best symbian devices as well including the monster e61, beautiful e71, gargantuan n97 and mysterious Maemo based n900 (the fastest texting ever!!!). I tried blackberry as well. Now it seems with my Streak bot being able to deliver the clear voice experience I'm going to try something new. Like good old Dell Venue Pro, windows phone. Surely it's going to be some kind of downgrade, but I'd still want to try some new experience, especially sweet for 179$ on outlet. We'll see. And if I don't like it, my choice is going to be either the colossal note or sgs 3 ehich might come up soon. Last week I had to use dad's iphone 4s for 1 day. I could not hold it in my hand. It was too small. It was too freaking small. And the screen was annoyingly small as well!!!!!!!! Truly cannot understand small screeners these days.
P.s. just wanted to add (right, tastes differ) that Dell Streak is one off the best looking devices for me. And not only for me. Several friends of mine told me it's an absolutelly stunning and clean design.
P.p.s. Go, Dell. You used to be the biggest guy in the hood. Now you have to be the smartest.

It would be very interesting if Dell went ahead and released the Opus One after Christmas - bearing in mind the weird screen hue of the Samsung Galaxy Note, I'd like to see what Dell could do as a Streak 5 successor...
Cheers
Brian
Lenovo released it for them, they called it the LePad S2005, it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect the "opus one" to be.
Most of ex-streakers/early adopters of the Streak have sworn never to buy any phone from Dell due to the number of problems they've encountered and deceptions about support.
It is really surprising that people still want to buy/longing for Dell phones after they've let the streak down and not releasing a GB rom for so long!
I love my white Super Streak, but I'm definitely going to get the Samsung Note. It was announced today that AT&T will be getting the Samsung Note 4G version in 2012. Imo the Galaxy Nexus is definatly worth considering
With a 4.65" screen (0.35" smaller than the streaks) I doubt you would notice the difference (I didn't)
Having guarantee updates and developer base would be quite refreshing
The Galaxy Note is an impressive device, but for that price..

Well the 4.65 is smaller than the 5" from the Streak. I've noticed a big difference when using these smaller screen devices. Thing is the first few hours will make you miss the large screen of the Streak, but past 1 day, you'll get adjusted to the smaller screen. Still, there is nothing comparable to the 5.3 inch of the Note --> saved money people and get the Note instead - it's definitely worth the investment.
Finally got my SG Note 2 days ago, and I can see now how badly Dell messed up with the Streak. I realise now in retrospect how many compromises I was forced to accept in comparison to the Note. Anyway, we did not have much of a choice due to screen size, so I have no regrets tho. Thank you Sammy for bringing us an alternative ....and what an alternative! indeed! Honestly, the Note rocks and my Streak experience is fast becoming a distant memory...
This sucks. I have an AWS streak on tmobile it took a long time to find one after I found out they were even made. Now its been a year and I want something fresh and new but I have no good options for tmobile. Switching carriers is not an option I have to nice/cheap of a grandfathered plan. The new nexus might be nice but I just got my wife a galaxy s2 and even 4.5" seems to small so 4.6 is not going to cut it. So what is there for me? I search at least once a week for the next 5"+ phone. I would buy the note but no 3g =no good. So anyone know of any other large phones coming soon for tmobile bands?

I got gs2 as a replacement for the dell steak after I got fed up with the lagging and the buggy build by Dell for O2
And I can confirm the screen size is really matter, 4.5 is small Vs Dell steak
So diffenetly I am going for the Note. But its very expensive in the Uk

Samsung
Again samsung, if you are wanting maybe a bit of a smaller screen but still big and want a really powerful device and yet stable custom roms and a bigger community (personaly again as the streak did I don't think the note will have a big audience) I have gone for the Samsung Galaxy S II as this is one of the most popular phones, I went to a friends party to day and three people had the same phone as me. (I found out as we videoed a friend taking of in a heli of our friends front lawn!)
I think that if you go down that route you will have much more of a wider range of roms and a bigger community to help when things go wrong
Plus the bigger the device the more prone to damage!
Hope this helps and would love replies

Converted Dell Streak users

Just wondering how many dell streak users have switched over to the Note. Still waiting for my note to get here, hopefully tomorrow. I had my streak for a year and a half and it was my favorite phone I've had. Any streak converts...how are you finding the switch?
Shockingly, it's not as big a difference as I had hoped. I guess that's a testament to how ahead of its time the streak was. I love the Note, too.
I also really appreciate the development here, its nice to have a phone that a few other people have as well..!

Digitizer on my streak stopped responding literally a week before this bad boy was shipping. I miss the metal case on the streak, somehow felt a bit tougher... lord knows that thing had been dropped.
I'm a bit terrified to drop the Note. Plastic and weak feeling in comparison...
I was hoping to be blown away moving from the Streak, but so far I am not seeing a huge improvement. Maybe I should go back to the Streak for a day to change my perspective. Of course my Streak was running a custom ROM and my Note is still just stock. I imagine I will like it much better when I get a new ROM.

Most of the enjoyment I got from the streak was playing with the custom roms. Especially dj Steve's gingerbread roms.

Great avatar slaydog!
I kind of preferred dell's landscape mode, but note is great too. Screen is awesome.
I had a streak and loved it for a year and a half. Now I love my note!

The one thing I do NOT miss about my Streak is the back cover sliding off and turning off the phone if/when the phone got bumped while in by belt holster case. Both my Streak and Note are rooted; and that is it! No custom ROMs etc. The Note is WAY faster than my Streak. The Note's picture quality is WAY better than the Streak. I kind of miss the landscape mode too; but I'll live....
Had a dell streak for over a year...despite Dell/At&t not knowing what they had, not supporting the device, it was (even with 2.2.2) my favorite device.
Got a Note just before Christmas (international version), and absolutely LOVE IT!
I hated the streak so I see a lot of difference with the note its much faster and all around better device hands down the streak is a POS compared to the note IMO

its been an easy move from the streak to the note. overall size is almost the exact same. I did like the Streak's landscape mode too.
2 Birds with one stone.
I switched from the Dell Streak 7 (multimedia & gaming / browsing), and the HTC Inspire as my primary 2 devices down to the AT&T Note; putting both out to pasture. So far I am VERY pleased with the switch.
There are quite a few incompatible apps with the Note so far since it is brand new but I don't mind waiting. As far as modding the Note, I have already flashed the OC/kernel and the Deoxed Rom; It took a great Gingerbread device and made it even better. I can't wait to see what pops up in the coming month for the Note.
I had my Dell Streak running smooth, had bought the Dock and a 32 gig card for it, had the Mini HDMI - HDMI cable and other little things. Now I guess I'll put the Streak and everything on eBay and say goodbye to it, and keep the Inspire in a drawer as backup in case I need it. You guy's think $175 is about right for the Streak/Doc/Card/Cables?
I had the Streak for 2 years and loved it. I now have the Note and it has a nice screen and it seems a little faster. The battery life and charge time on the Streak is way better. I like many that posted here prefer the landscape operation of the Streak. Using third party apps 95% of the time I can use the Note landscape.
I used custom ROM on the streak and looking forward to a custom version of ICS for the Note. My screen density is set at 240 and I use Zeam as my launcher.
I am really loving the Note. I still have the Streak but the screen is broken again and this was the last time for me.

My fondness of my streak is like that of a childhood friend.. Sounds weird but i don't think ill ever forget it, no matter how many phones i go through in life.

I was one of the early Streak adopters(I should say), loved the screen size, landscape mode, custom roms & streaksmart.com with a small tight community..
Note being same dimensions with a lot more power was an easy choice for me, and yes I love it so far, lot smoother and no quirkiness that I experienced with stock and some custom roms on Streak and no I don't miss the Streak
I dont even remember seeing the streak for sale at at&t, were these unlocked on at&t? I'm surprised you guys are seeing the difference to be minimal. Dell doesnt have the greatest reputation for quality products. No offense to anyone.

It wasnt advertised properly, when it first went on sale it was only available through Dell.com with a ATT contract. Later it was launched in BestBuy and ATT stores but there was enough publicity!
Quality of the product it self isn't bad, solid construction but software updates pretty much sucked, it came with Android 1.6 when 2.2 was available and took Dell months to release an upgrade. But I was able to root and apply a custom rom with 2.2 in couple weeks after the phone launched, DJ_Steve was a dedicated developer working and churning out custom ROMS like crazy!! So that made it worth while!
streak
shattered the screen on my streak 2 days ago, already replaced the screen once and decided it was time for an upgrade instead of replacing again. happy so far, but the custom roms made performance comparable in a lot of ways (quadrant scores much higher on note though - 2900ish)
............adw for landscape.............who used the dell stage launcher anyway?
I used the Streak for 1.5 years. It was a good device only because of what DJ_Steve and Fards did. It did have it's quirks though which one just learned to deal with. The note, at least to me, is far superior than the Streak. I can't wait to see ICS running on it.

Saw an Atrix HD couple of days ago (was it on Amazon or eBay, I forgot), around £130-150 I think. No contracts etc~
If I were you, I'd look like a Galaxy Nexus, but that's just me. One thing I've learned is that from now on, I'm only getting nexus devices. (Waiting on the next nexus to get a new phone for myself)
Depends on your budget but if you can afford it buy a nexus 4. Hordes of roms to try and developer support will be much better than the atrix. I still use my atrix 4g as a test dummy.

I would definitely not buy another atrix. I cracked my screen terrible a year ago and I've kept using it, but now the WiFi chip has burnt out. This is common problem with the atrix and happens with age. This combined with bug ridden ICS support and the fact that google will be releasing 4.3 soon, I believe it's time to move on.
Personally I'd wait until the new line of nexus-based products hits the UK. On June 26th the S4, and HTC One nexus versions are coming out in US and shortly after to the UK. You'll see a crapload of people dumping their old phones for resale when this happens. Just wait a couple weeks and you'll spot some deals. And you'll definitely see used Nexus 4 prices hit within your budget.
