I know the steps to recalibrate the battery. But I've been wondering, while I'm recharging the battery can I turn on the phone and use it while charging or does the phone have to remain completely off and wait till it charges to 100?

well I don't think it matters, I've calibrated it and used my phone during that time too. Make sure u have something like battery doctor or any other good battery app which will assure u 100 % charge coz the phone shows 100 but isn't actually FULLY charged. After it reaches 100, its gonna take 10 to 15 more mins to get completely charged.

I own a HTC wildfire. I have some issues with my battery and I can't pinpoint out the reason, these are the issues:
It rarely charges to 100% unless I let it charge for a while and then reboot the phone. But it'll drop really quick
If its charging while switched off and I take the charger off, the charging light will stay on indefinitely
The battery goes really quick, in 90 mins my battery charge is now 38%
When switched off and charging, it never gets the green fully charged light, but if I switch it on it'll say 100%
Do I need a new battery?

What is the proper way ? I've looked online and people say differently. People say let your battery drop to 15 percent or a little under then fully charge. Then others say let the battery completely run out until the battery dies then fully charge it, but I heard letting the battery completely is bad and not necessary. So what exactly do people when when they say fully discharge or battery manufactures when then say fully discharge a brand new battery then charge?

Down to atleast 3%. That's how I've done it for years. Every opinion differs though
I always charge my phone when I know I will need a full charge, I never really cared about the battery percentage too much, but I do agree that there is no real wrong way.
It's my understanding that in order to properly calibrate a battery you must completely drain it.
From what I've gathered the battery needs to know what a "full charge" is and the only way to get a full charge is to be completely empty.
So following instructions from threads back on the MT4G forums I calibrate my battery by:
1. Letting it completely die.
2. Turning it back on just to make sure it dies again. And I do this til it won't turn on again.
3. Then charging it, while off, til it has a green light.
4. Then I unplug it, turn it on, turn it off and plug it back in til green.
Whether this really really makes a difference or not...well I can't say for sure
but my battery lasts longer than my sister's Amaze.

same with me, I never bother with letting it drain fully, I did with my first phone, and a few months after I got it the battery was pooched, so from then on I never cared. plus with the cost of getting a replacement, or even aftermarket batteries like anker, not following procedure to drain then charge a battery is a no brainer for me.
But, if I did care, then I'd drain it fully, then charge it back up. the percentages on my phone aren't accurate anyway. Actually today I was playing blade master and I kept getting the battery warning, and it was pretty steady from 20 down to 5, then hung there for a while, maybe an extra 15-20 mins, then died. so percentages are approximate. a full drain and then full charge should do.
What the other guy listed in steps is correct, though I'll give you a heads up, the amaze battery is total ***** when it dies completely, so be prepared to have it plugged in alllllllll night for it to charge.
Just got my self a replacement, the battery ended up dying, took me four hours to move 8%, was about to go buy a replacement the next day, but I let it charge overnight, it's been remarkable since then.

So, if you would care about calibrating, do you let it die and fully charge every time you flash a ROM? Or just the very first time when it's new?
Seems every battery is different. I let mine die completely and then charge overnight, but had the green light after an hour and half. I let it stay on though overnight.
I personally didn't see a drastic difference.
A lot of folks day to wipe your battery stats as that helps. I have yet to try that.
Just kinda deal with the 8-12 hours I get on ICS. I used to get 12-16 with gingerbread.

Wiping battery stats doesn't help, IMO, for the number of times I've tested it on a few devices. My results so far just shows that wiping it just fools the device to stay full longer than it should but after the battery passes the 90% physically it starts making rapid drops until it stabilizes somewhere around 50%.
Right now I'm letting the battery die. This is the life on 4g and listening to pandora lol wow. What awesome battery life this is with the brightness at 25 percent and a 2000 mah battery heh.

I just got a Samsung Battery Charger/Stand with Battery & have just charged the new battery with it, swapped it for the old one that had just run out when I noticed something weird...
The new battery was showing up as 100% for about 15 minutes. During which time I had the screen on for 3 minutes at full brightness.
What does that mean??
I've never seen 100% for any more than a second after I've unplugged the phone.
I'm assuming there's some difference between the batteries and the stats that are in the phone for the battery. I've used the Battery Calibration app before, when changing roms on my old phone, and that would sort out little anomalies. Do I need to use battery calibration every time I switch batteries?
Will this work itself out?
Will this swapping negatively affect my phone in anyway?
I thank you in advance for your help/suggestions
The phone has logic to not let the battery charge to 100% for too long. The charger does not. Battery calibration apps do nothing.

Well to me it doesn't mean anything wrong really. Just that the phone doesn't fully charge the battery for safety or maybe heat reasons. Who knows? If samsung desktop charger is approved by samsung its good enough to me.

It did on my new one for about 5min. Only but I had wifi on and screen and doing some work. It Wasatch new battery and didn't think much of it. I would say that even that was way more than the immediate 99% once off the charger on the phone

One of my usual days with the battery charged up in the morning on he desktop charger, and I'm now 8 almost and have 72% when previously I was getting about 60% around this time

Do you have any pointers to charging and battery practice tips?
Battery came half-full. I charged until full, it just turned 100% and green led.
I now intend to use it until drained, then charge it back up overnight.
Does this full/drain cycle sound like a good idea to you? Would you have drained the battery from new to empty? Same thing, right? As long as there is a pattern to touch the empty and full ends?
No point in those first charges. Mine came at 40% and when it went to 15 I charges it. NO problems or whatsoever

It doesn't matter with these modern batteries. Just charge it anyway you want, use your phone anyway you want. Won't make a difference.

+1 that 20% is a load in of crap, that means you would not be able to plug your phone in to the computer for file transfer unless you have -20% battery cos the computer will charge it.
