[Q] Very slow torrents - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hey. I recently installed a few torrent apps to give it a go, and they all download very slowly, and by that I mean slower than my old dial-up connection... 1 or 2 kb/s. I've tried the same torrent on my PC and it downloads way quicker so it's not the torrent - I've tried loads of torrents and get the same speed every time. And I chose torrents with loads of seeds too. So I don't know why it's so slow.
Any ideas?
I've read through related threads that I could find but found nothing useful. Would be great to get torrents working on my Prime as it's slowly starting to replace my laptop for most things.

Perhaps your Android torrent client doesn't support uPnP, try forwarding the right ports for torrenting. Legal things I hope

Really can't tell why given the current information you have provided.
I use ADownloader, and I get decent speeds. Not as fast as PC, but still very good.

I've tried ADownloader, Atorrent and Ttorrent, they all give the same speeds. Not a major issue but it is a bit of a shame.

[Q] Rom Connectivity, do some Roms have better data connection?

Kind of a newb but managed to root and flash newest vanilla tazz to my htc eris. I noticed that it came with H connectivity instead of 3g. HSDPA. Seems to work faster for wifi tethering x box 360 than when i had just stock rooted on 3g. So i was wondering which rom for the eris has the best data connectivity or would be the best for tethering and gaming on a console.
Tethering and gaming on a console is a bad idea.
And no, different ROM's probably won't effect 3G data all that much... if anything they might do something wrong but most of them wil give you the same.
The only thing that effects 3G data is your ISP, your radio, and the reciever in your phone.
Bad ideah why?
Is it because of the speeds that you say its not a good ideah? Its really my only way to game and all i want to know is how to get the fastest tether. And yes switching from stock to vanilla tazz improved my connnectivity. 3g to hsdpa is a difference maybe not a big one but it helped alot. There is way less noticeable lag. if there are any other ways to help make my tether faster thats what im looking for. thanks for any help. and for the quick reply .

Don't let the data icon fool you... its still 3g no matter how you look at it. The reason for the H is because it was ported from the Hero. It doesn't change anything.

Well ever since I flashed the rom gaming got a little less laggy on tether my movie download went fromapprox. 20-30kbps to 60-max160kbps. And I even did internet speed test and got 1.5-2.5 Mb higher so there is definatly a difference consistsntly not just guessing. If anybody out there knows any other ways to faster tether plz help. Thanks for any help and quick rrplys

I have a lot of tethering experience as it was my only internet from August until just a couple weeks ago. Every time I thought I found a rhyme or reason why my tethering was working much, much better, things would change again and it would revert to the old, works, but is hard to rely on consistently for computer levels of data transfer.
Sorry I don't have any specific advice for you at this time. In general, I liked CM6's (and I assume CM7's, too) native tethering as it connected a lot faster than other solutions. For a while I got great tethering performance, too, and then it was only on weekends I would get great performance. Eventually it was hit or miss, with a lot of misses.
I hope your solution keeps working well for you!
Somebody must know a way...lol plz help

4g vs. wifi for tethering

I can tether using PDAnet using the 4g and I guess its running ok. My speeds are 7.41Mbps download and .79Mbps upload (no idea what that really means). I try to tether so I can use Netflix but it says my server is too slow and the movies wont play????
Any help?

WTF are netflix requirements? I have the fastest AT&T DSL I can get in the area without getting professional level service (and associated fees) and only get 6mbps....when I get 4g it's always faster than that....and upstream has nothing to do with it (0.79mbps should be more than enough, essentially).....
....I've never used Netflix, I don't know...but....srsly? more than 7mbps required?
Ohhhh, Netflix puts content servers on most major ISP's...Sprint probably doesn't do this for obvious reasons....

I would think that is some sort of glitch/bug going on... 7.41Mbps is MORE than adequate to stream netflix, at least it should be.

Splashtop keep getting drop connection?

My connection keep getting drop everytime when i tried to stream a show from my laptop for 20min. Any one else with this issue? suggestions? thx
i Was getting something similar mate. But when playing games over it on the Wifi sometimes it drops randomly. Noted though my router is a hog. Its made by virgin so its ultimatly "****"
yea thats what i thought at first but i brought another router and the problem still there
However the good news is that Nvidia are building a new Spalashtop THD version for the tegra 3. They showed it at CES and it was awesome. Albeit it wont be as awesome over the net, but on local WIFI it will be wicked fast.
Here is the Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nyg2kZfF5A
Not sure how long we will be waiting, but I'm pretty sure if you keep an eye on the nvidia store we might see it pop up in the future.

OP: Do you have GotoMeeting installed on the host machine? Is windows setup to receive Remote Desktop connections?
I have the same problem, and I'm wondering if we have similar setups. I haven't had time to to play around with installing and uninstalling, but there may be a conflict going on.
I get a great connection on local as i should, but on non-local i get dropped signal too.
I read a support page from splashtop and their answer was "You have too many devices connected to the network"
Seems like they have a major design flaw or don't know what the hell they are talking about..
My name is Optimus Prime and I send this message..
I have had the same problem from day 1. It will work for a good 15 minutes.. then disconnect. Then maybe it will work 2 minutes before disconnecting. Very random. Found this on their website.
From Jaff at Splashtop:
Hi all,
We recently get a disconnection issue on Transformer Prime running ICS, our engineering is fixing it, please stay tuned.

The article talks about it not working with Android 3.2, but JAN 10th, it was hijacked for the Prime and now ICS.
Hope it helps.

i used to have this problem too, then i changed "keep wifi on during sleep" from never to always, and the problem went away.

Mine has been on always since day one, I suppose. JUST found the "Advanced" setting - lol. And it still disconnects.
Are you using the one that came preinstalled in MyCloud, or did you download it free from Amazon?
I am using the free one from Amazon - and it just disconnected twice in 4 minutes. Haven't tried the apparently older MyCloud version.

Well, tried that, and disconnected in about 4 minutes. I do like the look of the MyCloud version - having the Asusesque feel.
Anyway, it didn't work for me - but thanks for the suggestions! May work for someone else.
Brad
i'm waiting for a fix on this as well I'm actually using splashtop remotely to post this, but i get d/c every few minutes. I cant watch my lecture
yea im having the same issue on the my cloud version...i dont know if there's any difference but it happens even if I'm just browsing around on my desktop (not streaming music/video) sometimes happens quickly and often and sometimes it takes awhile...but it is constant..there isn't one time where I haven't been kicked...rather annoying...hopefully there is a fix...and this happens when I am connected to my home wifi (my desktop is directly connected to router via cat6) and when I am on some other network.
My network during the times I am using my cloud consists of my desktop, my tablet, and my phone active..all other wifi devices are turned off.
Any fix for this yet? I still have the same issues
Waiting for a fix here too.
I am also experiencing this problem, is there no fix.
I figured out this issue a while back (regarding the MyCloud version in particular) and there is no good news. The version bundled with MyCloud is a version that was released before the ICS fixes for Splashtop. If you goto the Google Play link for Splashtop or Splashtop HD and look through the changelog, you will see the following...
Splashtop Remote Desktop HD
Code:
v1.9.8.6
Fixed continuously disconnect issue on Ice Cream Sandwich issue
Splashtop Remote Desktop
Code:
Support Ice Cream Sandwich
These changes are both listed under the most current versions. Sadly the version that comes with MyCloud is version 1.1.0.6 r11494 and I do not believe that any of the ICS fixes are included in this version, therefore the only way to use the free MyCloud version without disconnects is to never upgrade to ICS. There is of course the other option, you could just purchase the THD version which was basically built for our tablets (I do not regret purchasing myself).

Can't play flash videos on 3g!

Couldn't find topic with this, so if one exists, sorry and let me know.
So far, unlike sgs2 and regardless of reception and network speed, I am unable to play flash from the browser properly. Video freezes 2 seconds into play while audio keeps playing normally. Netflix app shows the same problem. You tube app does not.
Stream everything fine on wifi. Different roms or modems do not help. Pausing for a while does not help as well cause it does not buffer whole video.
Any confirmation from others, or a clue how to fix this?

Could you please check in your contract if such things like streaming are allowed?
My provider forbids streaming and keeps pushing APN-settings with a trafficshaping (and completely overloaded and unreliable) proxy when hitting a 3GB/month usage
With Fido and 6gb package, streaming and tethering certainly is. And historically on original Internet apn its straight through data pipe, although past few years they started blocking voip and vpn ports.
Sent from my GT-I9300
Crap.! Spoke too soon. Regular apn, same problem.
Sent from my GT-I9300
If possible, please try if the same issue arises when using a VPN.
If they try to trafficshape streaming, that should get rid of it.
Why would it work on sgs2 without problems and without vpn. Same apn, same neighbourhood, all conditions same.

sometimes video lags audio..while sometimes, video totally freezes but there's still audio.

So you steam on wifi (which is no problem for anyone) , or on 3g?
Only workaround i was able to find is restart the phone before streaming.
I don't know if it's memory management, asu level or whatever, I don't care, just annoys the crap out of me.
What's funny is that north American model does not have this issue, but has extremely crappy bluetooth. Keeps disconnecting on its own.

This was the only issue that pushed me towards purchasing north American version to try.
Than i found some things amazing and some things sorely lacking on it. So basically it came to this... If theres gonna be fixes... It will be coming first here on i9300...While I would be lucky to have one or max 2 updates on Rogers version.
Have high hopes in jelly bean as well (which will definitely come sooner on this phone than nam version) , not some fantasy, just real observation while flashing my brother in laws galaxy nexus, noticing it uses approximately 100mb of ram less to run, than the ics release on the same phone. The might give is just enough headroom to improve multitasking and not feel lack of ram as much.
Im testing some more things before losing hope of fixing this myself.

jelly bean does not support flash player... that's the biggest reason why others are not going to update... majority of the sites still use flash player for now... the only reason i jumped from iOS to android is because of flash support... now they decided to take it away in jelly bean... very sad...

wifi tether and CM7.2 problems

I have an issue with I try to use any tethering other than PDANet with my Droid x2. I actually had this issue when it was stock, and thought maybe they had some safety built into the stock ROM. When I switch on wifi or wired tether, as soon as I start using a bunch of data, (ie 60 k/s sustained for a half minute or so) my 3G magically goes away, and stays that way until my connection is idle again. If I go through this cycle a bunch of times, eventually it'll become stable for the better part of an hour before going through the same issue. Now, as far as I can tell, this has something to do with the way Verizon monitors tether usage, but I'm on CM7.2, so wouldn't that sort of 'safety' be gone by now?
When I use PDANet, I can use it as much as I like without even a hiccup, so I know it isn't my connection. Any suggestions as to the cause, and how I can go about correcting it? Thanks!
Strange problem and sorry I'm drawing a blank... although i do have an image of an old country doctor smacking you up side the head with a rubber chicken saying "well use PDAnet"!! (For you youngsters that a Hee Haw reference)...

Never used tethering with Linux, almost sounds like the problem might be on the computer side as I've never had problems using it with Windows.
You might do better asking for advice concerning the best way to tether with the particular version of Linux your using.

It's not the computer, because it works fine with every other phone. Also, when I use the built in tether with my desktop, it does the same thing. When I use PDANet, it's fine.
