(Solved) fake charging in galaxy s2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you are facing an issue with Samsung galaxy SII with fake charging and you think that it’s a port issue and you are willing to change the USB port for your device please stop and action the below steps 1st to make sure that its not a software issue
• Take a backup from all your data in the internal memory
• Wipe your device by dialing the code *2767*3855# in your phone app
• Open the device in the download mood and flash on it a stock 2.3.5 OS
• After that you’ll find your device working like charm
• Don’t root your device in this phase, just flash it with a stock 4.0.3 and then flash it with the root from CF-root
• After that you can flash a custom ROM and I recommend Resurrection Remix
• The idea that you change from ICS to ginger bread that you will completely wipe everything in your device so it will be as if you are buying it new.
Appreciate that the above is helping people having this issue as I had it and now its solved.
The Original Post down there
Dear XDA team,
Appreciate your support on the below:
I’m an android user since 2009 I had many devices since that date ended with galaxy SII i9100 “international edition” 16GB
It was working fine from Dec 2011 till 4 days back.
4 days back the battery was 10 % and I plugged the original charger to the device and I slept for about 8 H, then I unplugged the charger how ever since that time my device is having the animation of the charging in the battery and its giving that its already plugged to the charger.. The main issue that I thought it’s a USB port issue so I tried to clean it with alcohol and with a tooth brush gently and nothing was helping... then I found that in the CWM the USB cable is working fine in mount mood so this means that nothing bad with the port so I tried to think about the ROM, I formatted the system drive and cleaned the kernel and installed the official software ICS 4.0.3 and I removed the root.. I still have the issue and its always giving me that the battery health is overvoltage I asked someone in the local warranty and he stated that there is some issue with water with the device which I know by heart that it was not effected by water.. I thought maybe because all the galaxy SII users are experiencing overheated issues and we spent most of the time in air conditioner here in Egypt so it can affect by heat and the condensation process but supposed that the device must have a failsafe protocol .. I have a good faith in Samsung but I found that the issue is still there and nothing was treated, someone told me that it can be a battery issue and you have to install a new battery and I did changed the same and I tried to put also the battery in deep freezer to lose its volts and nothing helped ..
Last trouble shooting made was to try to remove the battery and put the device in the sun to have any amount of moisture away and I let it about 3 H and also I put the charger in the device without the battery and I found it opening without battery as this was for me something strange.
Please share your ideas with me as I can’t find help from the warranty or from anyone and I don’t want to void my warranty by changing the USB port as most of people advised to..
Waiting for your kind ideas to help me with my poor situation
Sorry for making it long for you to read all the above but I really want to explain everything I did to help in solving the problem as I searched the internet and I found that many people are experiencing the same.
Your kind feedback is highly appreciated.

i'm sorry to tell you but it seems that you do have some problems with the usb flex cable (usb socket) and from what i have read here it seems that it doesn't need for the phone to be soaked in water... just condensation can cause you these problems... so you can guess what i can advise you... replacement
when i had the same problem i took it to servicing and they dismounted it and cleaned it properly, it worked for a couple of days but i ended up replacing the faulty part

Thanks gigeaky for your support i wish i can have any other solution.

My experience is different. I just got the phone and it was charging normally albeitba little slow compared to my sensation but now with a custom rom it has the fake charging issue.

If you were on a gingerbread rom before you should know that it doesn't show you that error, but you can try. And also I'm not trying to be rude but search for this problem and read the specific thread... Last time I checked there were almost 20 pages about this problem.

If you don't want to change the part for the USB port, then you're eliminating the one thing that will definitely fix your issue.

I did all what you've mentioned and its not helping i guess its a battery issue as i tried something here .. i put the device in the download mood and its was connected to odin fine .. also now am having the device connecting as internet tethering activated on my laptop.. definitly i need a larger battery to use but the issue that no one is selling the same in Egypt
if any one know a place in Egypt selling <2000 MAP battery for Galaxy S2 i'll be glad to have this thing done ASAP.

today i went and through the device to the warranty office in order to be fixed there and they had a look in the device they mentioned that its a recurrent issue and it must be water and they will check the same and feed me back .. warranty here in Egypt is sucks like everything about this damn country.
wish me luck

Before doing anything dramatic, try the following method, which worked successfully for me:
Get a compressed air can and blow the USB input a few times in short bursts. Do not use anything else than compressed air, unless you want to run into more serious problems.

I face the problem calibration also not working and i got no ans that can solved the problem for me too now m also searching the result.

For anyone who is facing an issue that his device is showing charging animation while he is not connected to the USB charger , or having over-voltage in the battery or even having his device turned on the time he plug the battery into the device
now you can find the answer below simple steps to try before you approach hardware dismantle as i faced the issue before and it was sorted out

i don't know what to say...i had this problem too, and it kind of self-resolved. It was in the winter, so i guess it has to be the humidity together with the dirt because i tried several ROMs that time and all had the same result. The fake charging was still there, randomly. The warm weather appeared, the port was cleaned, the problem is gone for the moment

i guess you are getting it right also noting that i had the same problem and i tried many ROMs but we can assume that maybe the steps i followed ended the problem or the time i took to get it done was having effect on losing water from the device but believe me it disappeared automatically after 2.3.5 .. and i tried it with my friend who had the same issue and it was sorted out so i thought that sharing this would be helpful for people experiencing the same issue.
Usually it's only the USB-connector which is broken/faulty/making contact. Had it replaced yesterday under guarantee and now all is well again. Tried 'all' other tips of course prior to sending it in.

SlimTW5-JellyBean-v2.0 issues

Being an absolutely brand new member, although not ignorant to the excellence of Android or for that matter different ROM's and there charm, I today joined this wonderful source of wisdom and knowledge
As I recently installed the great work called SlimTW5-JellyBean-v2.0 onto my SGS2 I wanted to share my experience with the author of this great ROM. Well...as a new member I'm not allowed to post anything until I've posted at least 10 posts...how the f***k that should be possible with a post "ban", beats me..
Anyroad, this is what I wanted to share with the author and you other guys, running this ROM.
Absolutely the fastest and most stable JB ROM I've tried this far...and loving every experience more and more ! Well almost...an odd behaviour have occurred when charging the phone. And this is the only problem I've had. When I connect the charger to the phone, this being the charger connected to the outlet on the wall, which means 230 V AC, the phone indicate it's being charged...the screen's shutting down as it should after the time out period chosen...
How ever, when and if I "wake" the phone's screen, the phone still connected to the outlet, the screen shows me the "enter PIN code" screen! Ok, I can live with that so I enter my PIN-code...which is dismissed as being the wrong code?! As I look at the upper right corner the symbol tells me that the phones not connected at all...to anything. With this I mean that the SIM card is shown as not present, which is SO wrong.
A restart solves this issue...if being patience This behaviour is sort of pi....., making me frustrated.
In short; I would SO much like to be able to charge my SGS2 without the phone loosing the ability to connect to my very present SIM card

Being a friend/devoted to "RTFM" that to me seems the installation behaviour...and which I followed. Do you think your advice would resolve the issue? I'm happy with the ROM's feature, it's speed and stability. A change of kernel to what or which one?

Thanks a lot, you guys. I've changed the kernel to Siyah 4.1.1 kernel, put the phone on charging and crossed my fingers
First impression of this kernel is that my SGS2 feels more responsive and faster I'll get back to you guys with news around the charging issue

Back again with great news
After charged the phone it would wake up into full connectivity to both the network and SIM-card !
A big chunk of thanks to you both for pointing out what probably caused the issue with ROM

[Q] Complicated Version of the Reboot-after-Shutdown Problem

Hi there,
I searched the forums, I tried suggested solutions, I've been at a repair shop, nothing helped so far.
I have a SGS2 GT-I9100 Android 4.0.4, Baseband I9100XXLPX, Kernel 3.0.32-CM-ge9cef6c (Aug 28, 2012), CyanogenMod 9.1.0-galaxys2. This has been working flawlessly for months now -- until I plugged it into an DC-USB adapter in my car. When I plugged it into the car adapter the phone rebooted.
Since then the phonce shows the following symtoms:
a) If I shutdown the phone, it restarts automatically.
b) If I remove the battery and re-insert it, the phone starts automatically.
c) USB connection to PC does not work anymore.
d) Charging the battary is possibly. However, charging is not indicated in the status bar as it used to be.
e) The battery drains much faster than it used to. (Settings menu reports the CPU being at 200 MHz, when idle)
What I did so far:
1) Cleaning the Micro-USB socket. --> Didn't help
2) Going to a repair shop to replace the socket. The guy disassembled the phone, and connected the ribbon cable to another USB socket. Didn't help. He also tired another battery. Didn't help. He suggested to go back to the original software as this may cause the problem. If that didn't help, he said, it is the mainboard.
3) I reset the phone (i.e. wiped the Dalvik cache, etc. and reset battery stats in recovery) and ended up with a "naked" SGS2 with the above specs. Yet, this didn't solve my problems.
What I hope to find here:
i) Someone sharing their solid experience/knowledge as to what causes such behaviour.
ii) Instructions how to reset the phone to its stock software (remember c) above).
iii) Other suggestions how to fix these problems.
What I have at hand:
Windows 7; Ubuntu (preferrred, also used it to flash the phone back then); a PhD in computer science.
What I don't have:
An SD-Card, but willing to buy if needed; knowlegde of all acronyms and "community speak", but willing to learn.
tl;dr: Thanks for reading so far.
Best,
Daniel
Hi, I was wondering if you got this fixed yet?
Hi there,
no I didn't find the time to play/mess around with the phone. If you do -- I expect you have a similar problem -- please let me know.

Can you connect it to PC in download mode?Or it doesn't work at all?
Also, you can try Mobile Odin to reset your phone. It can take a time,I've never tried it before, but I have seen that it works. Here's a video that can help you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLxGzWYGDNw (it's the same for S2,don't worry that it'a an S3).And for the firmware,go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/ and create yourself an account.I recommend you to download the UK/IIreland -XEU firmware, because I know it's an unlocked firmware.Download it right on your mobile, then flash it via Mobile Odin.Let me know that it helped.

I had the exact same problem after using a car charger. I took my phone in for warranty repairs and they changed the USB flex cable and the battery. No more issues since then.

SGS2 bricked while booting up.

Well, first of all, I should start by greeting the community, as this is my first post. So, yeah, hey everybody, been reading the forum for quite a while now, and it's been of a great help
Now, to the problem - this morning I noticed that my sgs2 had turned itself off. I didn't suspect the phone to be bricked or something as this happens from time to time when using custom roms. I tried turning it back on, it booted up, showed my kernels logo (DorimanX, not sure for the version though), so I put my phone in my pocket. After half an hour or so, I wanted to make a call, but I noticed that my sgs2 still hadn't booted up. So I tried restarting my phone using the power button, but instead of restarting it just turned off and I hadn't been able to turn it on since - it's bricked
I've heard of phones getting bricked while flashing a new rom or kernel, but never had I thought it could happen on simply booting up...
I did some research on bricked SGS2 and here's what I have done so far:
I've tried booting up in recovery/download modes, but that doesnt work.
I've tried soft/hard resetting my phone - still no luck.
I've also tried making an USB Jig, didn't work though. I'm not quite sure if my self-made jig works in the first place, as I did mess up the micro usb connector pretty bad while soldering resistors to pins. I'll try that one again with a different jack later and will keep you updated on weather it worked or not.
So, my question is, if my second try at making a USB Jig fails, is JTagging my only chance on reviving the phone? I guess that a MOBO change would probably help.
Another question is, if JTagging is my only chance, wouldn't it be easyer to just replace the bricked NAND chip? Then again, even though I have all kinds of soldering equipment accessible and also have the skills to do it, I have no idea where it's located on the mobo... Some info on that would also be much appreciated.
I havent flashed a new rom for quite a while now, last time I did it was when the latest version of Resurrection Remix was released.
My CPU wasn't overclocked - it was underclocked to 1GHz.
I was using DorimanX kernel.
Thanks in advance

I guess the battery is charging, as it heats up, but I don't see the charging animation. Also my PC won't see that a USB divice of any kind is connected.

order an usb jig and try. If it does not work send it to a repair center
Very similar happened to me a couple of days ago. Sgs2 crashed and wouldn't boot. I was also running dorimanx kernel, under clocked at 1ghz.
Originally I managed to get to download mode (not recovery mode). Kernels wouldn't flash via odin. I also tried using samsung kies to flash stock without success.
I tried the solution for nand bricked phones in this forum, however, this appears to have hard bricked the phone, since it failed to flash and now the phone does nothing (other than get hot when it is plugged in.) Nothing shows on screen. The PC does not recognise the device.
None of the threads I've read seem to offer a solution to this - any ideas? I guess I need to try a service centre, but thought I'd mention since I had same configuration as jankanolv, which of course may just be a coincidence...

Sounds familliar, lol. Anyways, did you use USB Jig to get to download mode? Or you just managed to boot it up on it's own?
I am really confused right now, because I'm pretty sure this can't be a hard brick as nothing has went wrong while flashing something on the device - it just bricked itself...
I've just get in the forum a few minutes ago only to find somoene with this symptoms, and i wasn't in here for too long and voilá...
Since yesterday my SGII, with no problems to this date, went in reboot mode for a few times.
I have no clue what is going on, but im sure something is.
i'll wait to see if theres anyone else complaining about it.
cheers
Hmm... Looks like a lot of people are getting this "brick" lately.
Maybe we all used some kind of app that bricked the phone on bootup?
Well, I tried to make another Jig, didn't work... This time though, I screwed my resitors up...
Another thing - is it really relevant to have exactly 301kOhm resistance between pins 4 and 5? As far as I know, it just kind of short circuits some pins on MOBO, which tells the phone to boot up in download mode. But I might be wrong...
Btw, sorry for the double post.
Same Problem
Hi,
I just face the same problem today,
now my S2 not working and just heat up.
this only happened after the original update done to my S2 - Android 4.1.2 - 2 days ago.
any help please
heat up....near the rear camera heat up?
Sent from the little guy
Mine gets hot near the camera. Nothing shows on screen.
In answer to jankanolv's questions:
- originally I could get to download mode via pressing home/power/volume down. (Not any more following failed flash). I've not tried a USB jig.
- my crash which started the situation occurred while I was listening to tune in radio pro app.
Well guys....near camera heating + no boot/dl/recovery = claim warranty saying that you factory reset the phone, 4.0.4 was laggy.
Sent from the little guy
was going to post a thread asking for help for what appears to be a similar problem
mine got stuck in a bootloop after pulling the battery, tried flashing new software in recovery then tried through odin but kept failing, now its bricked.
does nothing, wont go into either download or recovery mode so looks like its off to the service centre with it.

Yessss! good to know I'm not the only one facing this issue.
I posted a thread about this yesterday but it is all the way down in page 3 already:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192996
I tapped on the "sync" toggle on the notification shade and my phone just turned itself off.
Recovery and download mode were accessible though.
Thanks for the help.
I went to Samsung to get them to fix based on the factory reset while on stock 4.04 premise, but they were having none of it, and wanted to charge me to investigate the problem. Once out of warranty period, it seems it doesn't matter if their software can brick your phone!
I found a local phone fixing service in Hong Kong which investigated, diagnosed as a motherboard failure (which I suspect my problem genuinely was given how firmware flashes were failing), and replaced + fitted for 700hkd, (approx 90usd). The guy did it in front of me within 10 mins. "Andy Telecom" in Mongkok, on +852 9237 9237 in case someone else has the same issue locally.
Well, outta warranty...that's another story. You only get 1-2 years to brick your device
Glad you had it fixed for 90 bucks, some service centers charge around 150.

Well, I finally managed to make a working USB Jig, tried it on Galaxy Ace, worked like a charm.
What confuses me right now, is that my sgs2 has drained all the battery, even though it was switched off for about 2 days. I'm charging the device right now, and I will keep you updated on weather my jig works..
Sorry for double-posting again on an old thread, just wanted to let you guys know - I took the phone to warranty service and they changed the mobo. I didn't have to pay anything and everything is working normally. Of course all data on sd card is now lost for good, lol.
So if you hard brick your device so badly it even won't respond to usb jig and you still have your warranty active, don't bother trying to revive your phone - just take it to warranty service
I guess they couldn't see the odin download count so they cant void my warranty, he he he ]

display battery fault

Hello, I have a samsung galaxy s2 gt i9100 with a problem that I do not manage to find from where it comes. when I branch to the PC displaying the battery collapses until zero and then unplugged when it goes out and it is necessary to remove the battery and put it back to the start and functioning normally. well when it is off and that puts him in charge and then to start you must remove the battery and put it back and then it starts normally. beginning if someone has a solution or explanation I'm interested. thank you in advance.
Try a new battery. Also sounds a lot like the USB board/port is on the fritz; it almost always throws up intermittent problems like the ones you're experiencing rather than dying completely all of a sudden.
Replacing it is easy/cheap to do. There have been lots of threads about this issue on here over the past few months, search for those. You need to look at the USB board you currently have in the phone & order the exact same one. There are 4 different revisions from memory, get the wrong version & your phone may not work/properly after you change it. So it pays to get it right first time.

Whoa. Wait a minute.
You're trying to tell me you were able to source a new USB board/port on a Sunday & replace it all in the space of 3 hours ?
