[Q] my friends keep telling me they hear me well on phone - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friends keep telling me they can not hear me well for most of my calls with galaxy S3, sometimes my voice are like under water for few seconds. I got no problem with my other phones before. I cut my sim to micro sim, it could be the problem? I also rooted and changed to custom rom, problem still there. What else I can do? Im using Tmobile and singal are strong.

can hear you well then its can't hear you well.
try phone > menu > call settings > additional settings , and play around enabling/disabling one or both - noise suppression and in-call sound equalizer.

Thanks, I just made some calls and they got no problem.

Do you mind posting what settings you changed to fix the issue? I've experienced a similar problem.

I too have this sort of problem. Some people say I sound far away when in fact i'm at normal distance to my ear. I would like to know what settings to change to fix this.

[Q] Cannot hear caller

Is anyone else seeing an issue where they frequently can't hear the caller when receiving a call, but the other person can hear you? I'm seeing this very often (almost every call I receive, about 7-8/10), not every call, but most. It never happens on outgoing calls. I've rooted and applied the update.zip to fix the GPS. Come to think of it, I've only noticed it since applying the update.zip. Perhaps undoing that would remedy it. Just thought I'd check if anyone else has seen a similar issue
I know it sounds silly, but are you sure your voice call volume is up? Try pressing the volume up button while in a call to see if that works.

That was of course, the very first thing I checked. I usually just hang up and immediately call the person back after first explaining that I cannot hear them. Good suggestion, but I'm fairly certain that's not my problem.
Then to be honest, I'm not sure. You may want to try to wipe back to stock, but that is a little extreme.

Just wanted to bump this post, as this happens on almost every call I receive... it's not volume, it's not google voice (which I suspected) because it happens on a direct dial to my cell #... and it happens inconsitently (one call I can't hear, they call back and I can).
The only common denominator is that they can always hear me.
Right now I'm running Trigger 3.2 with Bali 1.8.8uv kernel
Try muting and unmuting when this happens, it may very well solve the issue

Perhaps a problem with your speaker?
Maybe you have an intermittent problem with your speaker? Although it really doesn't sound like it since you can call back immediately and hear them.
Just a thought. I recently had to replace the back speaker in my phone.

If you can hear them through a headset (not BT for testing purposes) then you have an earpiece issue and should have it (the earpiece) replaced. If your problem does not change with or without a headset then it could be a rom or interfering app issue. I would back up and flash back to stock to see if it still happens. That will tell you what to do from there.

Is there a fix for the mic? (Sounds Muffled)

Is there a fix and/or setting out for the muffled audio sound from the microphone? I thought my phone was defective, but my wife's phone sounds just as poor.
I thought that I could live with the poor microphone, but I can't. I'm getting tired of repeating myself. I miss my EVO.
Thanks,
John

I honestly haven't heard of anyone having this issue. I know a few people with this phone, me being one of them, and haven't heard or have any issues like that. I know its slim chance but maybe they are both defective....take it to a sprint store...can't hurt.

Yeah, it's most likely something else, maybe reception. Try taking a video, or use the voice recorder. I've noticed video sound has been really good compared to the og evo.
Im taking in my phone today to see what is the issue. My wife and I both have the HTC EVO 3D, and the call quality really sucks. She has a hard time understanding me and vise vesa. Ive had the HTC Touch Pro, TP2, HTC Hero, and their call quality was amazing compared this his unit.
There have been some people posting that changing the voice codec (vocoder) on the phone helps, but I haven't done a lot of testing with it to say for sure.
I don't know off hand the original post with these directions so someone feel free to link but...
1) get your MSL - call sprint and ask nicely or search for other ways if you're rooted or feel confident to use a software to access your phone from your computer which could screw things up if you change something
2) dial ##DATA# (##3282# - same thing)
3) Choose EDIT MODE
4) Enter your MSL for the password
5) Choose Advanced
6) Change EVRC-B to enable
7) Change Home Orig to EVRC-B
8) Change Roam Orig to EVRC-B
From what I've read, EVRC-B may not work on roaming or airaves, so you may want to keep that on EVRC or just switch back if you have issues. I'm currently testing SVM which I read is newer than both EVRC and EVRC-B but I could be wrong and people have said they hear me clearer. Not sure if this one works everywhere though and I could be wrong in it being newer.
I DID read that 13K gives great quality, but is older, uses more bandwidth from the tower (bad for Sprint), and has more tendency to drop calls in weaker signal spots. Also read that glitches (pops, digital noise, etc) is more obvious using that one too.
See if that helps.
Thanks! I'm an going to try this out. I will let you know.

Has anyone been able to dial Sprint Support (*2 or 1-888-211-4727) while on EVRC-B?
When I switched to EVRC-B, I noticed that I couldn't call Sprint Support, whether I dialed *2 or 1-888-211-4727, either way it would always give me a message saying "Network is Busy, Please try again at a later time".
I ended up having to call Sprint from my home phone and I wasn't able to actually make a call to Sprint Support from my EVO 3D until I went back into the EPST Settings, disabled EVRC-B and switched Home and Roam Orig. back to EVRC.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Same here.
AND HERE!!
That's why I asked this question [Q] In-Call Voice Quality Better on Rooted EVO3D With Flashed ROMs?
I have had similar problems, nailed it down to this:
- handset and speakerphone work fine (for me), good audio quality in and out
- WIRED headset is the problem - mic gain is way too high, so sound is very muffled, but incoming sound is fine
- If I enable TTY mode, mic gain is reduced to the point where it is fine, people can hear me clearly, but incoming sound is very low (no good with any background noise at all...)
I restored factory settings (erased all my data), and initially the problem was fixed, but after setting up email, etc., problem has returned.
I am trialing Volume+, early on it seems okay, but the real answer is to fix the mic gain.
Is there a way to adjust the mic gain? I am on the Rogers network in Canada, some of the suggestions from the Sprint posts do not work for me...
I have reported the issue to HTC tech support but they had no solution (yet?)
Anybody have any suggestions?
I never had any luck finding a solution.

I have the same problem with my mic.
I haven't found a solution yet but somewhere on the web I found a thread about a Google nexus phone with a similar problem with the mic.
The guy there said that when he cleared the dalvic cache the problem disappeared.
I tried the same thing and for the first couple of calls it seemed to work.
But then all of a sudden the problem appeared again.

Help!!!

I can`t hear and cant be heard during voice calls on my Samsung Galaxy Note. When I make a call the speaker by my ear does make the default Android "dialling now" noise, but then nothing (although the call seems to connect and the other party picks up). Do you think this is a problem with the phone or a network error? Thanks
This just spontaneously happened 10 Mins ago. Was working perfectly before.
EDIT:- FIXED. PLZ DELETE THE THREAD

Network Issue - When called to my number it says switched off!

Guys, I have a strange issue, 3 hours of IDLE time on my phone and when you call my number from other phones, it says it is Switched off!!! The network signal is full, strangely if i callback someone it rings, and then if you call me back, my phone rings normally!
I do not know what the issue might be here, I have tried resetting the phone, reinserting the SIM card. Changing the Networking setting to only GSM, but nothing helps!
This is not good, and it is causing me lot of headache, as I am missing important Client calls anyone with a remedy?
Guys .... anyone who can help me out here ?

Sounds like a network issue. Make sure you don't set the network mode to automatic/auto connect. Other than that, I can't think of much.
Edit.
Check your edge preferences and turn off any of the flip to mute functions. Also double check call rejection in Phone to see if it's rejecting calls for some reason.

Call Volume always changing to maximum.

I need help guys everytime i receive a call the callvolume settings is always at full it doesnt stick on my sertings..i hope theres a fix on this issue of mine i have the s6 edge ATT

Hi. Have you found a solution to this problem? I'm having the same issue. No matter how many times I turn it back down my call volume randomly increases and always increases if i receive a notification while on a call or unlock my screen during a call. Very annoying. I also have an s6 edge ATT.
Galaxy S6 volume increases by itself.
I have the same issue for my call volume always increases to max both on wired headset and speaker all the time. I have a new Galaxy S6 not edge with att. Can anyone help? Is this a common problem? Manufacturer defect or update comming? Any words of wosdome? Thank you.

Was having the same problem with S6 on verizon. But then figured it was related to alerts and notifications when I'm on a call. It blows my eardrums when volume goes to max when I get a notification. Then I did this after some trial and error:
Phone app > more > settings > call alerts > notify during calls > off.
I still get the notifications at the top bar but no more "random" volume increases during a call.
Hope that helps some off you.
Thanks i will try that out!

After a few tries, it didn't actually in the problem. I finally decided to do a factory reset and have been slowly reinstalling apps to try and isolate the issue. No more in-call volume issues tho.
