Is there a fix to this if you use the stock message app?
Potential Workaround
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747794
I have posted a potential workaround for those that dont mind installing SMS Popup from the play store. It works in conjunction with the stock messaging app.
This is the 10th one of these threads. Where are the mods?
There's no fix for this. We all hate it...
My phone must be broken as a text does not "wake-up" the screen. However I would like to know if its possible to wake up the phone with S-voice even if the screen is off ? I can't seem to make it work -

If you're running a ROM which doesn't wake the screen for a text, and that annoys you, try SMSawake. Its simple and works flawlessly. No pop ups. Nothing. Just screen on for the length of time you set...
Sorry if posted before. On phone and can't search very easily.

or you can simply use any number or messaging apps that give you way more control over the system than the stock messaging app (handcent, for example, lets you set the screen wake with or without popup, and change notification tones for different users, among others. i'm sure gosms and other messaging apps give similar advanced customization as well).
We all know that. For those that don't want a spaceship for a messaging app, there's this tiny simple solution.
Works very well...

There is probably an option in the messaging app that allows the screen to turn on (depending on the rom).
Most disable it for BLN support.

Not in any messaging app I've seen. I've only seen it in 3rd party apps. And you can have the screen wake and BLN. It just activates when the screen turns off.

I have it in my messaging app. Also Bln on ics with stock messaging app does not work of the screen is activated when receiving a message, so screen wake needs to be disabled for it to function properly.

Hello everyone,
Is there any way to see the popup before unlocking but without the screen going on? In other words, I do not want the lockscreen to be on after I send my SMS reply. Just a black screen. I have tried Go SMS and Handscent.
Thanks

What? You mean like the notifications going on the lock screen without lighting up the screen?

What I mean is, after my popup comes up and I send my reply, the lockscreen is there. Is there a way not to light up the lockscreen?
I believe chomp sms has something close to this with some configuration.

I use the stock sms with an app called SMS Popup. It works awesome. It's very customizable. Give it a shot, I think you'll like it.

But the thing with SMS popup is that it gives you multiple popups of the same message
If anyone is still looking for a reliable popup app...try Glowfly. I know its a weird name but trust me its a good app. So far...no multiple popups and better than SMS popup
Callbar is known from ios, it allows incoming call being displayed as notification only, great if you browsing web reading or doing something important, but then all sudden you get a call you wish not to answer or not to hung-up either... it's taking all screen, i hate that.
Does anyone know any apps/mods that do this? Call blockers can, but the darn things auto hung-up
I heard that CyanogenMod have this feature, but I dont want to use that.
Anyone? Share me if know anyway to make this happen

Any Luck in finding anything related?
Hi all.
Have rooted my s3 with the omega rom and using go launcher. Wanted to know, after having searched xda as well as Google, how to either - disable the deliver report sound OR disable the deliver report screen wake up. Its annoying when constantly texting a conversation to have to discard the notification of every sms received.
I like the implementation of the stock ics delivery report (just adds a tick mark to the sms) but the stock ics messaging app doesn't search threads by person. Only searches the messages. (So if there's a mod for that to enable search threads by person name as well then perfect, will ditch Samsung mms/sms app in a heartbeat).
Thanks
Kunal.

Try other sms apps in play store.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
True but other apps don't replace the Samsung stock app. They just overlay it thus wasting precious resources. (As I understand it, please correct me if I'm wrong.)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Give it a try. Android quite good in handling resources. If it really cripple your phone, then just uninstalled it and find other solutions.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Have already tried Go sms or whatever the name is. Best sms I've found is the stock ics app but as stated in my 1st post, it for some reason doesn't search by threads only by messages. so if I have a thread with you, a search by your name won't yeild the thread as a result. only such messages where your name is mentioned will be shown. If there's a mod for that then that's perfect. Much better, lighter and faster app than the stock Samsung app.

Any senior member knows a hack for this? Come on I'm surprised the delivery report tone and wake screen hasn't irritated anyone else?

It has iiritated me too
I, on the other hand, prefer to use any other SMS than the stock one, but any other program will not disable the Delivery Reports.
It is very annoying that everytime you send out a message you get a "message delivered" reply, that I have to keep erasing every once in a while.
I have posted several times, in several forums, looking for an answer to this but apparently everybody enjoys knowing their messages reached their destination, as nobody seems to care.

To disable Delivery Notifications open Messages app --> Settings --> SMS Settings ---> Uncheck delivery notifications...
That disables delivery notifications. I like to know that the message is delivered. I just don't like that it sounds out like a normal sms and wakes up my screen. Just a tick on the sent message or a silent delivery report without the screen wake up is perfect. (Like in the stock ics mms app. However in the stock ics mms app one can't search for threads only for messages, while in the Samsung mms app thats possible).

This post is very old but if anyone had the same problem, just use the app "Messaging Notification". It solves the problem.
Thanks! This app is great! To recive proper funcionality I set "Silent" a ringtone in SMS app (to keep showing the SMS in notification bar) and everything else (the ringtones) I set in this app.
Anyway to make my phone not wake up when I receive a text? I can't find it in the settings or anything. Im also on Jelly Beans.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
this was the same way on the s3, as well as the note, not sure about other samsung devices. but the answer is no. they made it like an iphone, it will wake up no matter what unless you custom rom it with CM or something pure google like.
Ah, really? Well that sucks lol. Oh well, it's not a guge deal or anything.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
There has to be a setting somewhere in the code that wakes the screen up for these texts. Has to be. It doesn't just do it because it does it.
Someone will find it, and make it bend to their will. Just give it time.

I'm not trolling. I just thought it funny that you stated the obvious, that it is controlled by coding. Any application function is controlled by code
No ill will intended.

I decompiled it earlier to look at.
There is no bools.xml so its going to be in a method.
I'll know more once I locate it.
The method that ive been using is this:
Disable sms notification on the native app
Install sms popup
Uncheck the popup when recieved option on sms popup
Configure the rest of the settings
(500ms for light, 5000ms for off time)
???
Profit.

The solution I found that worked for me was to disable all the notifications in the stock messaging app and have light flow control the sound and led notification. I've had light flow on my other Samsung phones and it's proved to be a great investment. Now whenever I get a text i get my sound and my led lights up red and stays on. much better on battery.

A big reason I want it to not pop up, cause I feel that's why my light flow isn't working cause I have it set so screen on makes the notification go away. I don't always want to have to open the app, but want the light gone.

I too use this method of preventing screen flash on text. A little bit of screen time adds up when you are trying to milk your battery for all its got. Not much a huge deal on this phone though

I just simple replaced the secmms.apk all rebooted and when I get a text my screen doesn't turn on and I still get the notification light
