Seeing as I`m still a relatively noobish poster I`m unable to ask this question in the relevant thread. I`ve just debranded the phone following the 8 step guide but I had issues following step 8 where you change the CSC code. I couldnt quite figure it out so step 8 never got followed. As a result, despite losing the Three branding on the phone I now have a phone that displays the CSC as "unknown" and may well explain why Kies cannot pick up the firmware version on the phone. If I follow step 8 and key in *#272*<your IMEI># on my phone it then shows me a screen headed "Preconfig" with "Sales Code" underneath and "H3G" in the box to the right. Underneath is a radio button thats deselected. if I press to highlight it then press "install" at the bottom of the screen I keep getting an error saying "Must be THREE chars".
Can anyone shed any light on this and give me any hope of rectifying?
Will I need to manually input the Three APN settings once I successfuly change the CSC code?
Thanks in advance. I have spent ages scouring the web but there`s not a great deal of info out there about the CSC part of the debranding process.
id like some more info on how important the csc is too, im got told it hold some carrier information but i dont know if that is true or not.
the reason you cant pick on is probably as since debranding you havent flashed the csc you need, you could find the one you need for your firmware over in the dev section.
Cheers for the reply, interestingly i`ve just re-flashed the phone and this time it is showing my CSC as XEU. Even so, I still cannot follow step 8. When I input that code including my IMEI in it shows XEU but when I press "install" it gives me the same old error of "Must be THREE chars". So not sure whether its worked or not and what diference it makes. At least Kies now shows something in the firmware field, even if it doesnt show what I was expecting. Hopefully someone can assist with this at some point later.

Hi there
If it says XEU after inputting the imei then it's working fine. You're not supposed to have to press install at this stage. Also to make sure it's working fine, I always boot into recovery mode. If you look down the code as recovery is loading, it will say which csc is being used/implemented (xue etc). Always reset data in recovery after rom flash from (especially from different csc.
I've had issues in the past when I flashed back to T-Mobile (after originally flashing ke7 stock) and then back again to T-Mobile. When I re-flashed back to stock after this, I couldn't get it to change from tmu (t-mobile) csc back to xeu, no matter how I flashed it. In the end the only way I could revert csc back to xeu was using the jig I had purchased. Apart from resetting the customer binery counter, it seemed to reset other settings, as once I had done this, I was able to install stock ke7 with xeu csc.

Cheers for that. I just did a recovery as you suggested and saw it was done using the Multi-CSC so hopefully that means its all sorted.
Does this mean I should now be able to see the latest Firmware update available in Kies?

Yes you should be able to see the latest available update for your csc via kies. Although kies seems much slower to get the updates. It's much easier to use Odin. Most people update by this method. It's really easy and pretty safe.

The csc will be sorted now. Also if you plug your phone into kies, this will confirm what csc you are using.

Cheers Redbullman. I can get into Kies now but on the firmware information section it says "Current Firmware Version : PDA:KDD / PHONE:KDH / CSC:KD1 (H3G)"
Its not telling me there`s a firmware update available so I have a horrible feeling something`s still not quite right but I`ve flashed it twice now and done 2 factory resets.
Would it be easier to find the stock KE7 kernel (forgive me if I`m using the wrong words) in Odin to flash it that way? If I can manually do it then I`d rather do it that way. Only problem is I`ve not yet found any tutorials on doing that, unless its the same (mostly) as the tutorial for debranding, except using a different .tar file (KE7).
Hi Guys,
My Galaxy S2 came with KE7 I bought it in the UK and it's not branded to any network, I flashed CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4 and then the stock kernel and all was good.
A while later I tried to flash the clockworkmod from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693 ... that flashed OK but I couldn't get into the CWM recovery so I flashed the CF-Root back.
The recovery menu now works, but I still have the warning triangle on boot (I have tried reflashing the stock kernel again). This in itself doesn't bother me too much - I did this a month or 2 ago.
I've been told by someone that there is an upgrade available via Kies, however when connecting the phone Kies on Windows just tries to connect for ages and then gives up. (I have disabled USB debugging). Not that it should be relevant but I have previously removed Kies.apk, KiesAir.apk and kieswifi.apk using g-script but I put these back before trying to do this.
My phone currently reports:
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100XXKE4
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 [email protected] #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
Looking at these values, is the mix of XX and XW correct? (It's possible that I might have downloaded the wrong CF-root version the second time)
All I would really like to do is get the official version Samsung version and then root the phone. I believe that the Kies upgrade would still keep all applications.
Any help would be much appreciated.
You can find official, stock roms in the development threads

Thanks.
I've seen the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 but I'm not sure which is the correct stock firmware for me.
Given the other issues I've described above I'm a bit 'concerned' that I've already done something wrong :S
EDIT:Re-editting my post cos Im blind and cant read good
Sorry dude I got all screwed-up there I have ta apolagize.Anyway you can download the one i told you and all will be cool as its a UK+Europe generic as stated and its XWKF3 but you are indeed on KE7 and you will find it here

its XWKE7 ,Build Date 18/05/2011 generic XEU

its a kernel flash via odin that takes, from hitting the start button, about 10 seconds to complete. It roots and puts CWM on your phone. The kernel you want is one of the first ones (xx-xeu-ke7).You Cant go wrong its all explained.
EDIT: You can also check to see if it really is unbranded by checking your product code by typing this number and checking the last 3 letters of your code *2767*4387264636#
Thanks very much. The PCode I have is GT-I9100LKAXEU.
I'm going to try the latest KI3 and see how that goes, failing that I'll reflash the I9100XWKE7_I9100XXKE4_I9100XEUKD1 I've just got (I note that this lists KE4 and KE7 in the filename, which does match the version I currently have).
The important part about your code is the XEU which is your local CSC.this is recognized by kies when you connect. The first thing Kies does when you connect is rcognize this code to identify the phone and look for the appropriate firmware update. When you flash a new firmware if its not official obviously kies wont understand it cos it doesnt register.Your Product Code says your phone is a UK model (XEU) so for example if you flash an official firmware and by default the phone sets KOR then kies has 2 conflicting CSCs and thus might decide not to connect. If you want your phone to work properly on kies then when you flash an official FW make sure you have XEU selected as your CSC marking *#272*(IMEI)# this will then reboot your phone although its always good to do a factory rest too.Do this anyway although not on an official FW as it might not always set the CSC to your area so it pays to check.
This is what Kies looks at for an upgrade .

Spoof FW Check Fus may be worth a search also.

I installed CSC_XEU_I9100XEUKH2 after i noticed Kies said my CSC was KI3 (KOR) and not XEU. Kies still says this however.
Under phone settings I can see Baseband and kernel and build. They are all XXKI3.
Why does kies show my csc as KOR? Did the CSC file not install properly?
Look her for your csc code.
codes.docx
Hmmm.. that document doesn't even list KOR. I would have thought it was Korea. TBH I think my phone first showed KOR in Kies after I put nimphetamine kernel on it. I just don't understand why subsequent flashes leave it still saying KOR. I would have thought it would now be back XEU like it was at first.
I am trying to fix a bluetooth car problem (another thread) and don't want to be wasting my time flashing what I think is different software if it isn't flashing properly.
I really understood my HD2 but I'm still climbing a steep learning curve with this phone.
Also in another thread someone posted a screen capture and it was title version. It listed PDA, phone and CSC. I can't seem to find this screen. See 1st post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169338
You can change the CSC code to anything you want.
Just flashed clockwork mod. Now Kies shows CSC KH2 (KOR).
Where did KOR come from and how do you change it? Why does flashing an XEU CSC not return it?

*#06# gives your IMEI number
*#272*IMEI# gives the CSC Code (!!!!!!!!!!!If you change the CSC code you'll get a factory reset !!!!!!!!!!!!)
*#1234# gives the CSC version
Nitrality from Market does this all for you.
Cheers. that 1234 gave me that version screen. under this csc is listed as xeu.
Can someone explain what flashing clockwork mod changes. is this another csc or does it just modify the one you have to give a new recovery menu. i also seem to still have root after flashing clockwork despite the saying it would be gone.

Guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125282
Clockworkmod is a 'custom recovery' made by xda member koush. Every phone had a recovery partition designed so that if the user messes up a ROM installation, they can recover their phone. CWM is a modified recovery installed into the recovery partition that allows advanced control over ROM recovery, installation and much more.
Features of CWM include:
- NANDroid Backup, This allows you to completely back up your existing ROM with all its files, data and apps
- Restore Backup, Restores a previous backup (obviously...)
- ROM installation, Allows you to install a ROM contained inside a flashable .zip file
- Wipe data/Factory reset, completely erases all of your data contacts, apps etc, leaving your phone 'as new'
Amongst others...
How to install CWM
If you have already rooted your phone using the CF-root Kernel, then you already have CWM! If not, then just install the kernel linked to above in the 'how to root your phone' section

Can somebody please tell me what my region is? I purchased it through handtec.co.uk sim free unlocked. wondering ever since why it isn't showing BTU
Or is it that this information itself is BTU??
Hi All. I wonder if someone can help.
My CSC is permanently set to AEU regardless of what firmware I flash with Odin. Which is one of the reasons I believe I'm unable to update through Kies anymore - I got a message that this software can't be updated.
As before I was always able to update through Kies with installed older original firmware.
However, when I check the CSC in the phone shows XEU, but Kies shows AEU? I believe that my multi CSC is also gone as I don't have any other CSC to chose from when I try to change it. Multi CSC also can't be accessed when flashing.
I've been reading many posts for the last week or so, but I can't find the answer.
Your help is well appreciated
1) Install FW with proper CSC if not already done
2) on phone dialpad: *#272*IMEI# (replace "IMEI" with the actual IMEI of your phone)
3) select desired CSC and hit install
This procedure will wipe everything (=factory reset), usually even reset date/time and set the new CSC.
// EDIT
If that doesn't work, look (after making a backup!) into your EFS:
/efs/imei/mps_code.dat
Look what code is entered there and edit it manually (after making backup!)
Hi,
I give you an alternative solution, you can install the Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC apps from market to reset your location *** Please be reminded that changing CSC would erase your data, backup your phone before you go on.
Many thanks for the advise.
I'll give it a try and will let you know the outcome

Here is another possible solution:
1.
Go to the thrid post "Frankenstein Firmwares" of Intratech's thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
2. Download the latest version for your region => XWKJ1.
This already contains CSC: XEUKH2.
Optionally download the best CSC for your region/provider.
3. Flash this ROM in PDA section (and maybe CSC in CSC section) of Odin.
If using a MultiCSC, you should choose XEU in CSC selection menu after dialing *#272*Device IMEI#.
Good luck !
Hi all. I am an American recently stationed in Europe. I got a Galaxy S2 GT-I9100, build number IML74K.BULPC, Baseband- I9100BULP6, running 4.0.3 I got the phone in Germany through Vodafone, using a vodafone sim card. So...... I am new to europe. I had a droid eris that I rooted, a Xoom that I rooted, an iphone that I jailbroke, but...knowing nothing about the German versions of these phones, I don't know how to root this phone.
What version root do i use?
Can i root 4.0.3, I just got the update yesterday when I turned the phone on for the first time?
Is this XXLPH, XXKP8, how do I tell, the Android version only says 4.0.3?
Can I root the phone here in Germany and still be on the German Vodafone network?
I am an American, so I want access to the american app market, and so I want to root.
Please help me root this bad-boy without bricking it or losing my German Vodafone network.
really! so much rooting yet you have no idea where to look for version?
how about looking in settings about or dialing *#1234# if you are stock, which im assuming you are
No matter what version your phone updates to, there will be a rooting process for it, most likely from the one and only Chainfire. Here is his thread to find the rooted kernel when you update your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I think the mostly likely PDA for your phone when you update will be XXLPQ, so find Chainfire's LPQ CF-Root, and follow his guidelines outlined on the first post.
Chris.
*#1234# shows:
PDA:i1900BULP6
Phone: I9100BULP6
CSC: I9100VD2lp8
Build Info: Mon Apr 2 22:11 KST 2012
I am not seeing whether it's XXLPH or XXKP8.
I am new to Europe and don;t want to brick my phone.

chose the CF-root kernel matching to your version BULP6
Kernel to be flashed from ODIN, read ODIN flash guides if you are doing first time (see my sig)
this should work
http://download.chainfire.eu/141/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LP6-v5.2-CWM5.zip
if you get problem or bootloop, use this
http://skywanker.net/download/download.aspx?link=GT-9100/Kernels/Kernel_I9100BULPC.7z
password is: [email protected]
this is your stock kernel.
Actually, it appears you should be using CF-Root-SGS2_BU_VOD_LPC-v5.4-CWM5.zip...
To confirm which one you want, look at your current kernel version. (in About Phone) What does it say?
You can tell which CF-Root kernel to use according to the "Help! Which file do I use ?" section in the CF-Root kernel post.

"blah blah" and "small box with the word Odin in it and some crazy letters" is less than helpful.
Screenshots or exact wording of the errors are more helpful if you want someone to be able to diagnose your problem.
I see 3 potential causes of the odin crashes.
1: what version of windows are you running?
2: do you have current drivers for your phone installed on the computer?
3: and what version of odin are you running?

There are no screenshots of the errors, there are no error reports. After the Odin3.ini box opens, I click OK, Odin quickly apperas to flash on in the background, then nothing.....I looks like its trying to run, but crashes. If I had an error report, I would most definetly put it up here.

EDIT: Actually, what do you mean by "After the Odin3.ini box opens, I click OK"??? Where did you download Odin from, and what version is it? I don't have an Odin3.ini file anywhere.
Not sure where i got Odin from, but it was a bad download, I deletede it and re-downloaded and now Odin is up and running. So I got Odin, my kernel, and now I should be good to go, I HOPE!

If you just want root, then you just need an insecure kernel. If you have a CF-Root kernel, that's all you need. Flashing that kernel will root your phone and install CWM recovery. (Again, make sure you follow the directions in post 1 of the CF-Root thread... specifically make sure you have the correct kernel by reading the "Help! Which file do I use ?" section)
If you have some other kernel, it will depend on the kernel whether or not it will root your phone when you flash it, or if you need to take additional steps.
No, you don't need a firmware, unless you WANT to flash a new one, or a custom one.
I am rooted!!! Thanks everyone!
