[Q] Great 3G speeds first couple days, now terrible - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

To start, I live in Boston, MA.
When I first got my Evo 4G LTE, it was getting about 1300~1500 kbps download and 700 kbps upload and 100 ms ping. The earliest tests in my Speedtest app show pretty commendable speeds.
Then, hmmm, about a week later those speeds have completely disappeared. Download is average about 90 to 120 kbps, and upload 100 kbps, about 750 to 1500 ms ping -- and these are tests performed at non-peak times such as 4AM. This has been consistent for about the last 10+ tests with different servers and locations around my local area in the city. Just to be sure, I also ran tests on my Wi-Fi connection, and the phone tested at my full 25Mb/s down / 3.5 Mb/s up cable internet.
My Evo is unlocked, and running the Charmeleon rom. I'm wondering if anyone else here has had a similar screeching halt to their wireless speed, either running stock Sense or a custom ROM. I'm wondering if the rom I'm using is capable of causing such slowdowns? Hmmm.
Before I try perhaps going back to the stock rom, any possible little tips would be appreciated! I'm getting sick of waiting 3, even 4 minutes for a very simple page to load in the browser.

Try updating your PRL. Then update your profile.
That usually gives me a bump up for a few days.

Mine fluctuates, the top three I took a few minutes apart. I also get a lot of random network not connected type errors.

Happened to me as we.l when I barely got the phone great speeds went to Mexico for vacations and came back and we back to sucky speeds, sometimes I do get good enough to watch YouTube tho, and my wife notice it as well, so our contracts our not over to late 2013, so I might end up seeking her iPhone and my evo and should be enough for etf, but I really like this phone the bigger battery and the ad card slot is good for me, the htc one s or x are great phones but limited to 9GB is not enough sometimes in my iPhone I end up using 25GB( iOS are bigger too tho), so idk I have a tmobile which I'm gonna get the gs3 to try out and might have it for myself till sprint gets LTE in las Vegas area and come back

[Q] What kind of speed are you getting with AT&T?

Can someone in the Seattle (WA) area help me with some AT&T data info
What is your download speed??
What is your upload speed??
What data plan do you have (dumbphone, grandfathered 3G, Same data as the Infuse)??
Thank you
Im not from Seattle (WA), California (SF), thought you might like some observation of ATT network.
Im on grandfathered 3G .
The best i have gotten was in the picture below , usually its around 3000kbps when network gets congested as low as 1500kbps, ping is usually around 140ms. Also depending on what server you connect for testing SF server never gets higher then 3000kbps . So in practice your speed could be all over the place regardless what others get highest upload i got was around 2000kbps

I travel all over the country and get between 2-8MB down and 1-1.5MB up. I live in a non-4G city and have even pulled 3MB down. I came from T-Mobile and interestingly, even though AT&T pulls lower numbers on Speed Test, my downloads and streaming speeds are equal to or better than T-Mobile's. I get less stutter in video for example on AT&T 3G than I did on T-Mobile 4G with 8MB down. I'm on a new unlimited data for Non-Smartphones plan I set up when I got the SGS2.

Thanks for the info, so I should be able to get between 3-8mb/1-2mb. Those speeds are good enough for me. Gonna order my new toy NOW!!
I currently get up to 11mb/3mb at T-mobile on my HD2 running android rom
I'll post what kind of speeds I get here in Seattle in the next few days

Speeds seemed to skyrocket since 4S release..

Well yesterday I was testing my 3g speed and kept getting around 300 kbps now today I peaked at 2000 kbps and a steady 1k-1.7k speeds..
Anyone else notice an.increase?
mine went down.
used to get 56k lol this morning 9-22k everywhere ive checked.
im zooming at sprint speed!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting better 3G for the last few days. From 800k average to 1200k average. And I'm getting 4G in more places than before for the last 3 weeks or so.
That's pretty damn impressive.
Still crap here...
slow as ever here...
sub 200kbps here in central WI...........
Even slower here....damn iPhones

I thought the same as op. Since yesterday, everything is all good!
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.
I am getting 1337ms ping 125kbps dl and 152kbps ul. Salt Lake City.
Download speeds increased from 300kbps (last week) to 1 mpbs this morning, located in East L.A.
230 ms ping, 215 kbps down and 680 kbps up.
Pathetic.
Yeah they shot up like crazy here.
About an hour north of LA
boom!! from my shooter
Mine were extremely slow today... facebook wouldn't even load, it was even roaming where it never does before (no idea why).
Iphone coming to Sprint was definitely the right move, I just hope they get their 3g network together soon.
I'm seeing the opposite.. kinda. My 3D used to see 10-100 kbps. Now its seeing 500 kbps, but my 4S is literally in the 10-100 kbps range in the same spot, same with my friend's Sprint 4S as well. The speed test doesn't even move sometimes.

Not surprised.
Where are these people doing speed tests? I RARELY get under 15-20 down. Is Chicago just that much faster than these other city's? I mean my best ever was 42 down at like 3am. Even my hsdpa+ tmobile incredible s would 4-6 down.

Lucky you guys, mine varies from 4 mb/s to 8. At work its a bit faster at 12 mb/s, really rare when it reaches over 15. When 4G was new in my home area, it was averaging at 18 mb/s, almost 5 times faster than now. IDK why it took a dump, can't complain but i miss the faster speeds.
I'm not real surprised at the poor showing by the nexus.
A couple of my coworkers bought the nexus and I can't believe what a chintzy POS that phone is. If it didn't have ICS, nobody would give it a second glance.

I go from 20 megs down to this depending on where I am at in the city. Very rarely do I get below 20 megs down.
This test below was taken inside the mall and was not an anomaly.

I am usually in the 45-60Mbps DL and 7-20Mbps UL. I am sure they are on a heavily congested area. And being that it is a tech company they probably have a lot of interference.
i usually get like 1 mbps....oh wait...i don't have 4g *sniffle*
My best was 24 down in suburban Baltimore. I've never seen above that.

My mom asked me the other day if they could upgrade their Network Extender I got for her house to an LTE one. I told her it wouldn't matter because LTE is so much faster than cable they would be bottle necked by Comcast. She didn't understand what I meant, so I just told her they don't have them yet, lol.
I get 20-30 down here in Charlotte.

I'm getting horrible 4G speeds.

Each of these tests is 4G LTE:

I feel lucky if I ever get over 5 megabits. This is my first LTE phone and I don't have another Verizon LTE device to see if it's just my S4 or the network. Should I be calling Verizon to complain?
What was the signal strength like at the time of the speed test? Also try changing the test site to another one near you.
The screenshot looks like your on WIFI...

I was on WiFi when I took the screenshot but all the test were done on LTE. I usually only have 2 or 3 bars of signal strength. All the tests were done within a 20 mile radius.
I don't believe that calling Verizon would make a difference, considering that your down/upload speeds are directly related to your location. Have your speeds always been like this?

I was in a known great speed/coverage area less than 4 miles from me... couldn't muster speeds faster than 24mpbs. Switched to a server 400 miles away and got 57mbps. Try different servers.
I would say its your current network conditions and not your phone. Check out the article posted by droid life.
droid-life.com/2013/05/28/americas-carrier-speeds-benchmarked-att-beats-out-verizon-while-sprint-struggles-to-perform/
Note the average speed for Verizon at 9.61 mbps download.

They've been like this ever since I got the phone which was only 5 days ago. Usually 2mbps or less with a couple outliers that hit 12+.

I just tried different servers and it didn't make much of a difference.
Is there a way to force this phone to 3G speeds? It's been so long since I tested those on my old phone I don't even remember what I was getting. It seems like they were close to 1mbps though.
Are those all in the same location? Try going somewhere else.
It would be worthwhile calling, just mention the <1Mbps speeds though, because anything between 5-12Mbps is considered normal.

LTE Salt Lake City?

Has anyone noticed that since they on LTE here any over time the data speeds have slowed down. I have it here in tooele. At first i got 8-10 Mbps down now i get anywhere from .5 to 5 Mbps. It's that all past of the testing before full launch.

lol your getting better speeds than my lte here in dallas, 2mb max , sometimes early in the morning i can pull 6mbps
I live just outside of DC and have noticed the same thing the last few weeks. I don't even get LTE in my house anymore just 3g and I used to get upwards of 30mbps download speeds. Its almost as if something happened to the towers in a snow storm or something and Sprint hasn't fixed it yet. As of lately I am so fed up with the crappy Sprint data speeds I wish I could go with T-Mobile and let them buy out my contract but I signed a deal with the devil with the "one up" program and still owe about $620 on this phone. Also at my work there is LTE but only outside. I work on the 2nd floor right beside a window and the LTE always cuts off but if I threw my phone out the window I'd have about 10mbps download. Sprint is such a joke.

Well speak of the devil. Seems as if my data in my house has been restored for now. I still wish I had service at work.
