[Q] Tethering, no device would connect with SGS2? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have searched and googled for a solution for my problem but could not find an answer, and if there is an answer I have yet to find it. This is my first thread and took time to search for an answer before writing it.
I have recently rooted and flashed my SGS2 with both CM9 nightly and Paranoid Android ROMS and it seems there is a common problem.
When I activate "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot", no device seem able to connect to the SGS2.
It shows "obtaining IP address" for a long time and suddenly the phone gives up connecting and drops the process.
I tried to connect a Galaxy Nexus(rooted/CM9) and a Samsung Tab2(rooted only)
both are not able to connect to the SGS2.
Is there a solution of some sort, are the ROMS at fault since I believe the PA ROM is also based on CM9? Is there a missing setting?
Does anyone have a similar problem?

is there an answer for my question ?

Mine connects perfectly fine, I think your problem would be the rom. I use the Hyperdroid rom which is based on original samsung rom with redpill kernel, I recommend it. My suggestion would be to try a different rom if not Hyperdroid.

I came across this before but wasn't an issue after switching to a different ROM so I would think that it would be a problem with the ROM you're using?

As I have suspected, I solved this issue by changing the ROM.
I guess only the i9100 CM9 Rom & Paranoid Android Rom (based on CM9?) have this issue.
I reverted back to Gingerbread by installing CM7 Rom and it worked.

Cm9 has no issues with tether, as I told and posted images to some other user few days back.

I use wifi tether for root device and alors is perfect

I am having this problem only with CM9 on SGS2
CM9 on GNex works perfect with me

[Q] Wifi fried???

Hey guys,
2 days ago I flashed the latest Fusion 2.2 ROM and started to have wifi problem (unable to start wifi) or it would connect and immediately disconnect and all the wifi hotspot would disappeared as well. I know its not the ROM's fault cuz I've tried 4 other ROM's trying to figure out how to fix this, but since I have no skillz what so ever other then flashing roms (if you consider this a skill...lol)
Can my wifi be fried? or else???
Thanks in advance for your help!
Seems strange. You tried 2.1 ROMS as well as Froyo?

Yes, 2.1 VanillaEclair 4.0 & 5.0
Froyo, Cronos 2.2 ROM and Fusion ROM...
I've even gone back to my original 1.5 ROM and it still the same! I also flashed 3 different Radio ROM and it doesn't change anything!
Now most of the time it can't even find any wifi spots!
What about changing the radio maybe?

shoot…same happening here! So its either the 2.2 rom or the wifi tether fried it!

God doesn't play dice with the WiFi .. ?

Authenticating, obtaining ip adress, saved then loop.
After 6 hours on google im confused totaly.
There is hundreds or thousand posts about this problem and dozens "solutions" (personaly i tried 10 or 12 of them)
How is that possible can someone explaine me.
I mean in some roms wifi working normaly and in some wont.
What is changed in those roms, what is the problem?
Any help is apreciated.
It maybe kernel ralated .
Flash sirkey new kernel and try !!
If still the problem persists then flash kernel modules found on that thread !!

I get this problem whenever I flash cm9 direct from the cm site. I was advised to go back to stock first and then flash cm. I flashed the 4.0.4 from boy racers ftf list, booted in Stock, powered off and flashed the baseband from the fxp thread, booted up. I then used cm9 from the fxp thread rather than cm9 site and got stable WiFi.
I like pratting about though, so I'm now on rooted stock 4.0.4 using the guide in this forum to create your own rom

Thanks guys, finally some answers.
Here is my situation, flashed JellySandwich 4.3 (so far perfect ICS for me), tried sirkays 7.431 (rom is developed and tested with that version) and flykernel 0.7 and flykernel 0.8.
Nothing, one or two connections, 200 tries.
Then, 6 hours before tried sirkays latest 9.587a, with him is better but stil half-half situation.
"If still the problem persists then flash kernel modules found on that thread !!" will try this, thanks.
Full wipe done, etc.
On repacked4ru rom for example everythings working perfect, never experienced single problem with wifi. (same ap,my home ap)
Once again, flashed with full wipe, cache wipe, dalwik cache wipe.
Tried multiple times, result is every time the same (also redownloaded rom) and tested same kernels with other roms, they dont cause problem by themself.
Router isnt problem.
But, that what realy frustrating me is this problem is very common on android but i didnt seen in hours of googling what realy causing him.
Tell me please guys, im a noob but not stupid and learning fast.
To cure some problem man must knows hims root, whats causing that problem.
What causing this very common problem on android, one or more things?
Thanks again (and sorry for my bad english, my english is learned from movies, music etc)
Try picking up a pure stock ftf file from boy racers thread. I have a copy of the last gb stock ftf and two stock ics ftfs stored on my pc so if I screw up, I have options. I had this problem of reconnect loops using cm9 as above and pretty much reverting back to stock was all that cured it. Once you've flashed stock you can then go about the business of putting jelly sandwich of whatever rom you want on. I've tried putting jelly sandwich on twice now have issues of my own so am sticking to rooted stock.

Tried that and 10 more solutions, thanx anyway.
My questions still remains, that problem is obviously software related, how is possible no one knows reason why is this so common problem and whats a problem.
Come on guys, somebody knows for sure, this is xda-developers, guys here are able for unbeliveable things (like porting android to Samsung Wave and similar)

I Have same obtaining IP problem.Wifi problems started with official update to ICS.(on GB no wifi problem) Tried all possible "solutions".Nothing works... And finally? Use only WPA security on your router, but still some connection drops. Or buy new wifi router. From information I found. Older routers may have some new standards compatibility problems

Unfortunately, WPA security isnt option.
Im not on a hardware ruter, using virtual hotspot (Connectify applications + my notebooks wifi)
No WPA support.
Im back on repacked4ru rom , no phantoms problems, all works fine (too bad, yellysandwich is a nice rom, perfect ics for me)
Greetings from Serbia
p.s. (this thread can be closed)
The problem is the dhcp client ...
To resolve this issue, I create an /etc/init.d script for delete 2 tmp dhcp files
My script 99dhcp-reinit :
#!/system/bin/sh
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-wlan0.lease
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-wlan0.pid
Try it

Hi, Just follow the instruction in op and you wont have a problem. Not to lose anything just backup them! Simple!

You have to ODIN flash 4.0.4 stock rom before flashing CM10 to get rid of wi-fi issues. Thats all I know about that.
Did you lose your way to the cm10 discussion thread?

[Q] WIfi Tether No Longer Working on JB

Right guys Ive looked around the forums and cant quite find the post that relates to:
Samsung Galaxy S3 WIFI tether no longer working after flashing custom JB roms.(I have also found some ICS roms dont work either)
I have tried various different ROMs and kernels to try and get a working JB rom with WIFI tethering and not yet found one. Tested CM10, CM9, PA, SlimROM, the list goes on! with kernels 3.0.31 CM and siyah kernel.
Has anyone successfully got JB working with WIFI tethering successfully broadcasting an SSID and connecting and using it!!??
Answer on a postcard @ please reply below

ok cool Ill give that a try and see what happens!
this is what u get when u play arnd with custom roms.........each custom rom is ****ed up in some way or another!
russeini if you have nothing to contribute then please kindly stfu.
At least some of the roms (Pa, Cm, ...) are not Samsung-based and currently have some stability issues with such features as wifi tethering.
Roms based on Samsung's official Jb work fine or at least should.

Hey. I got the same issues. All roms you listed i've tried also (incl AOKP) and while WI-FI did work, thethering/NFC didn't. Some said that you need to flash back sammy ICS stock then the AOSP/AOKP based rom and it will work (you cand fine info on the related threads). Didn't work that way either so I quit although I am in love with AOKP roms (RR AOKP, rootbox, official AOPK). They provide the true Android experience that Google intented, not the the sammy/crappy one.
All sammy ICS/JB custom roms worked fine (WIFI, BT, NFC, tethering, etc). I am now on Alliance ICS that is fully AOSP themed, very stable and smooth.Highly recommended.
Regards
**FIXED**
**FIXED!!!** HOORAY
Right coz Im nice this is what I did
1. Ran ODIN and FLASHED ROM I9300XXBLH3_I9300H3GBLH2_H3G from samfirmware.com
2. Hold Vol UP + Power + Home Key - wiped user data + cache
2. Ran ODIN and FLASHED Kernel CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.tar from chainfire
3. Copied cm-9.1.0-i9300.zip and gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip to my SD card
4. Hold Vol UP + Power + Home Key and booted to CWM
5. Installed cm-9.1.0-i9300.zip and gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip and then wiped user data + cache
6. Rebooted!
And now I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 that is on cm9 with new JB look instead of stock look but more important!!! The WIFI Tethering is working!!!!!!! HOOOORAY

Do you know if this would work for a TMobile S3? I am still trying to find a confirmed working solution for WiFi tethering so I can tie my nexus 7 tablet to my unlimited data plan so I can make full use of it at work.

[Q] GT-P7500 cannot connect to wifi with CM10.1 or other roms

Hi guys,
I flashed CM10.1 and carbon and infamous and on all those 4.2.2 roms i have a problem.
That problem is that none of those roms can connect to my router.
If i reflash the stock rom then it works perfectly.
If i reflash cm10.1 then it does not work anymore but it can connect fine to other routers.
Is this a problem with my router or with cm10.1 ?
i dont think the router is the problem as i completely resetted it each time i reflashed and on stock rom it works perfectly.
Any help is welcome.
Grts Dave
Also i always did factory reset and wipe cache and all.
I just now reinstalled cm10.1 and again no connection to the wifi.
I get full signal and it shows the security and strenght of the signal and all just when i push connect it does not want to do anything.
The router is a wndr3700 with dual ssid 2.4 and 5ghz
Tried now giving the tablet a static ip in the router but also that does not work.
Im getting crazy here cause on stock ics rom all is working
By any chance did you flash another kernel after flashing those ROMs? Because flashing wrong kernel can sometimes lead to those error. I personally experienced it myself.

Nope did not flash any kernel after the rom flashing.
Came always from stock to either cm10.1 or carbon or infamous roms.
Did not flash any other kernel after that.
I tried CM10.1 again now but this time with the A1 kernel 1.9
This combo also does not let me connect to my wifi.
I just cannot figure it out why the stock firmware can connect perfectly but any custom 4.2.2 rom cannot.
