Problems with att i747 version. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. the external sd is mounted differnent that other phones.
ie /mnt/extCard or something..
this causes issues because move to sd doesnt work, and both gps apps I have
sygic and garmin navigon dont see the external sd card so they have to download their huge maps to the internal sd (which is not very big) big problem. Tried to do a symbolic link, but without root and busybox.. not possible.
2. text to speech also doesnt not work in sygic.. works fine on my old galaxy s..
reason is that if you go into language and input
and text-to-speech-output and settings for either google or samsung... install voice data is greyed out.. so that i cannot install the data needed for the sygic app to be able to speek.
3. light notifications:
no way to change the color etc.. and turn off at night.
lightflo does not work correctly.. if you leave the built in "led indicator" settings under system on .. the notifications work but everytime you sleep the phone a stupid green light comes on.. If you turn off the built in notifications than light flow notifications no longer work.
Any solutions to these problems would be appreciated.. thanks

1. It's /extCard on the i9300 too. I also have Garmin, Navigon - works fine.
2. No idea
3. Light Flow LITE works just fine for me...

are you sure you have your maps on your exernal card.. check where the downloaded too. .it does work but they download to /sdcard..
there is no /extSdCard in my phone
only /mnt/extSdCard
thanks

Its /mnt/extSDCard on the I9300 for external SD and /mnt/sdcard for internal storage.

i have the 9300 as well......Light should work if you go and turn it on in the accessabilty options in settings.

Yes, the maps are on the external storage (microSD) card. 100% sure as I removed the microSD card, plugged it in my laptop, and copied the maps to it.

strange .. just tried again.. deleted the internal sd maps and it immediately goes to downloader to redownload them.. even though i have them on /mnt/extSdCard/aura/maps
pain in the butt.. thanks for your help
also tried removing and installing the app from the external sd.. still puts stuff in /sdcard/aura and shows no maps and downloads to there.. if i copy the stuff from the external to the internal the maps work fine so the files are not corrrupt or anything..

All good here.

Same problem here but with a samsung tab2
It seems related to ICS
and yes no root yes for these devices
if someone find a solution keep me posted please

Unacceptable Download Issue

Hey guys!
So I've had my Vibrant for about a month now. I'm not sure exactly when it started, but I can't consistently download from Market or download attachments from my email (gmail). When I try downloading from market it says "download unsuccessful" and when I try downloading attachments, it tells me that an SD card is required.
I've tried pretty much everything except factory resetting. I've looked around and it seems like a rather common issue, although I can't find much reference to the SD card problem. By the way, I have an SD card in my phone. The phone finds it and everything. I've tried plugging it into my laptop and it works fine, so it can't be the SD card.
Any ideas?

If you go to settings then sd card and phone storage do you have any available space under phone storage or application storage? Also stop saying unacceptable, we didn't sell you the phone.
Also the phone says sd card when it means internal storage usually and sd when it means external storage.

I sae this on someone else's phone. For the market downloads issue, go to settings > applications > manage > download manager (if you don't see this make sure you hit menu and filter ALL), then clear data.
This should fix it. Im not sure why this happens and I'm not sure if this will fix your problem with opening attachments. Please let me know if this works.

@Wild - Regardless of who sold me the phone, it is unacceptable in my humble opinion.
@Dist - Thanks. I'll check this and get back if it doesn't work

Losing Apps

In the last week, i have lost 2 apps all of a sudden (Angry Birds and Splinter Cell). These apps were moved to the SD storage. After a reboot, the widget greyed out with a small SD on the bottom right corner. The apps disappeared from the 'Manage Applications' menu but the files remain in file explorer.
Does anyone know what this means? I havent done or install anything. Running stock KE7 with root.
Hey there, I have the same issue. I do not have an explanation, that is why I posted here, to find out when someone has a response. Thank you!
I am sure this has to do with the fact that the sgs2 internal memory IS an sd. Putting data on the external sd only messes stuff up. And hey, isn't 16gb enough?

Well actually for me is more than enough, but WHY should not things work as they are supposed to? And also, it's easier to keep stuff on external SD, just for convenience.
hey,
same problem here.

yes, 16gb is enough, at least for apps. the thing is i didn't copy anything, it just happend out of nowhere
I tried to copy some movies to external SD, everything seemed to work just fine, it took about 7-8 minues (not important), seemed as finished...and when I tried to find them and watch....NOTHING This is a very strange and unfinished phone. But I still like it
just to confirm this is all on the internal SD (11gb). I only have pics, vids, music on the microsd (external). So not sure why its disappearing

[Issue] Market/Apps have no access to the net; Browser works fine?

EDIT: I factory reset and it works fine now... still not sure why swapping the internal SD with the external SD would affect the market at all >_<
Hello everyone,
I recently did the mod to swap my external SD with the internal SD and it worked just fine! But then I noticed that my apps wouldn't connect to the internet along with my market app.
While those didn't have access, when connected, I can still use the browser fine and also my GrooveIP Google-Voice voip app works just fine as well... I don't quite understand why all other apps + the Market do not work at all...
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
~ ZaIINN
Maybe just put the market app. back onto the internal SD. Not a big deal.

APP 2 SD problem

Hi can someone please help me out.
i have just inserted a new sd card in my phone,
ive already transferd a few files to it so i no its working.
well im using the application app 2 sd to move apps , well i have apps that it says can be moved but when i click on them there is no option for sd card and also i get a message saying: the device does not have a real primary external storage, or primary external storage is emulated
can someone help me please
anyone? :/
Could be a copy sdcard card, loads kickin around from China
Also why u need a2sd don't u have enough on phone storage?
No it's proper sand disk I think from ebuyer, well I have about 10 apps and I have around 250-300mb left just wanted to free some up as when I install n.o.v.a 3 it's like 2.gb and that installs to whine storage aswell not sd. I think I've read that none if the apps to sd work yet for sgs3 :/

There's plenty of open topics about this. Search for them.
Basically Samsung intended the internal, external cards and dropbox to work as one big storage for all apps, app data and user files... or something like that.
So they disabled the Move To SD option in the app manager. Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like they intended and the external SD is practically useless as most apps (99%) can't read or write to it.
I'm reading around now to see if anything new happened but it's looking grim.
This thread should be closed.
Any updates on this? I still want to move my App Data to the external SD card. In this way my new SGS3 is even worse than my Galaxy Y -.-
as far as I know it does not work with S3. maybe an update coming soon

you cant do it again. samsung wont allow this option anymore. you can close this thread
It works. It requires some handywork though on the shelll.
maybe there will be a noob friendly mod soon for those that want to use .sd card for apps?

I'm just hoping for a custom Rom with App moving, UMS mode and fixed user dictionary so I'm not having to patch up the f**k ups that Samsung made and have it all built in like it should be.

Phone not recognising microSD card properly

Hi all,
My O1 has a problem wherein some apps recognise the files present on the SD card and some don't. I'm going to eloborate the scenario below.
Well, firstly the current ROM i'm running is the latest MIUI by Zack, which i had installed yesterday night. But prior to that i was running the stable CM7.2 with the candied kernel by DjnoXD.
While i was running the CM7, i noticed that only PowerAmp was able to detect my music present in the microSD card. Apps such as GentleAlarm, JetAudio, Fusion Music player and the default music player wasn't able to detect any music on my phone. So i assumed that the microSD card has ran it's course, since it was more than 2+ years old.
So yesterday, i bought a SanDisk Ultra 16GB class 10 card, and I installed MIUI on it, and to my disappointment, MIUI player didn't detect any music player, same result with JetAudio, Fusion and GentleAlarm. Yet somehow PowerAmp magically is able to detect the music!
Now I'm sure this problem is not because of a faulty microSD card, Kernel or the ROM.
I hope i have provided enough information, If more is needed please inform me about it.
What could be the problem? I searched a lot before making this thread.
Regards,
CD
Edit: I'm facing a lot of signal loss recently... Could this be due to a damaged hardware? I did drop the phone a couple of times
Installed ROM Manager?

I never liked Clockwork recovery or the ROM Manager, I use amonra recovery and MIUI doesn't have ROM Manager... Also i did check for the .nomedia file using root explorer, i didn't find it in the .nomedia file in the ringtones/alarm/music folders...
I feel my phone has a hardware damage as the signal keeps getting lost way too often after i dropped the phone... It wasn't a very steep fall, probably it fell on a delicate spot which i presume is located where the sd card and antenna is located(i.e., at the top of the phone)
Can this be fixed by servicing? My phone's out of warranty anyways... or do i buy another phone?
Does your sdcard work fine otherwise? Can you view pictures/documents or move apps to sd? If so, it looks like for some reason the phone is not scanning for music files and building it's music database. Why don't you try flashing another gingerbread or an ics rom to test?
Nothing is wrong with your phone. There can be many reasons for this problem.
Copy entire microsd card to your PC. Now delete all the useless folders created by so many music
players you used.. in the copied folder. Search for .nomedia in complete copied
folder.
Format your microsd card.. (fat32). Copy everything back. Done!!!
Dont do this if you dont have knowledge about which folders to keep and delete.
I recomend you to use only one music player at a time!!
> search for .nomedia files on folder and delete those.

I had deleted all the .nomedia files present... yet i had the problem. So I formatted my sd card again, created a 512 MB ext2 partition, a 64MB swap partition and the rest as FAT32 via the recovery.
I flashed the latest CM7 nightly and the default music player is able to recognise the files...
However randomly, the music apps keep scanning for media files and show 0 results... it's as if the sd card slot is loosly attached to the phone.
The signal keeps dropping often, and i'm sure it's not the network problem as i have an older nokia phone which has full signal... i mean at times, if ppl call my o1, i'm unreachable yet if the nokia is called at the same time, people are able to connect...
I suspect it's some hardware fault... Can it be fixed?

Cant be sure about your network problem. May be baseband not properly flashed.
Second.. go to network preferences and select Only Gsm or Only Wcdma. Not auto.
If you are using a2sd or link2sd.. Dont move the default music player to sd card.

I Will try the gsm/wcdma only option.
Im sure I flashed the new baseband correctly as Ive been using it for more than 8-9 months...
I'll test this for a while...
Could be a long shot, but maybe try to GENTLY clean the contacts on the SD card slot.
Sorry to hear you are still having these issues.
If I had the money for it... I would upgrade to a more powerful phone hehe. Not that it helps your current issue...

Well, I've gently pressed the sd card slot hoping it would fix the problem ... I'll test this phone for a couple of weeks, and if the problem persits, I'll give it for servicing to a known person rather than a LG service centre...
I can manage with random unmounting issue , but random/often signal losses defeats the purpose of having a phone...
