Porting Question - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wanted to ask if someone could try bringing stock SGS 3 Web browser, photo gallery and video player to work on AOKP or CM9 or even a few other apps just overall I cannot use my SGS 3 on stock as I hate everything except the main new apps like music video gallery etc... I think there quite cool and nice and would love to see them on a custom Rom that's not based off Samsung

Sorry but this is a pointless thread. If this were even possible, people would be trying right now even without your request.
Its probably not possible so don't get your hopes up

Flash Stock Camera app in CyanogenMod?

I recently flashed CyanogenMod 7.1 on my Galaxy SII. I previously had a Galaxy S Captivate and couldnt stand being stuck with a stock rom after using CM7. One of the only complaints i have about CM 7.1 RC is that the camera app crashes, and is completely unusable. Even if this were not the case, i love the original camera app on this phone.
So my question is, and it may very well be a complete noob question, so please try not to bash me too much, but Is there any way to flash the stock camera app onto Cyanogen? Or does the new Kernel/Rom prevent a stock application from running correctly?
Thanks a lot guys,
Evan

You cannot flash stock camera into CM7 it. If it was that easy it would have been done already.
If you want to retain all the features of the camera and video part of the phone
it's best to stay away from CM7 until the DEVS decide to fix it.
I have been testing CM7 ever since I first purchased my Samsung Captivate and
now with my new SGS2 i777.
GTG's UnNamed v1.03 custom rom is the best currently available for our phones.
It achieves the full & steady 30fps according to the specifications of the phone.
The user interface cosmetically speaking is also the best there is right now.
CM7 is not ready for prime time yet especially if video recording and camera
user interface (UI) is important to you.
There are many missing features and options in the CM7's camera user interface.
CM7 still does NOT achieve the full continuous 30fps while recording video.
So home made recordings when played back will not be super smooth and will
not achieve the video standards according to the specification of the phone.
BUT it's up to you guys, if you hardly use the camera at all CM7 is great.
(personally I use my camera a lot and video recording is very important to me.)

[Q] Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI - Best Root/ROM?

I'm trying to read up and figure out what the best root/rom is for the Galaxy Tab. I'm not new to rooting -- I've got an Evo 4G and a Nook Color both rooted and running custom ROMs.
Really, honestly - I like the Honeycomb in the Tab 10.1, except the Touchwiz launcher. That thing bugs the crap out of me - *it never goes away*. Watch a video in fullscreen? Sure, fullscreen except the launch bar. OH hey, I'll take out the icons, but I'll still be here.
I'm sure I'd probably like ICS at some point, when it's more stable -- but for now, I'd be content with a custom ROM that is honeycomb-like, close to stock - but where I can ditch the touchwiz garbage. Is stable, isn't flaky, or filled with a ****-ton of skulls and retarded sound notifications made by a 13 year old death-head.
So - any suggestions?
edit: as a side note, I want things to work like AllShare, Netflix, Youtube, etc. I've used different DLNA apps in the past, and frankly I think Allshare is the smoothest of the bunch. Sucks that we don't have Hulu+ for the tab, but I can do without that.

Just got it flashed and everything appears to be working just fine aside from the camera (which is mentioned in the post regarding this ROM), but other than that... It's pretty smooth, man. Not gonna lie.
Galaxy task 14 works PERFECT smooth as butter, that fat version has all the bloat included, the slim has it all taken out but you can pick and choose to put stuff back

ICS camera & gallery?

So maybe someone less noobish can clarify for me. In most of the ICS ROMs I've tried including the official TELUS one, the camera and gallery look identical to the ones in Gingerbread. In CM9 I see the camera and gallery that look like ICS to me.
There is even an app in the Play Store called Gallery ICS which looks like it.
So am I missing something here? Does ICS not officially come with the newer camera and gallery?
As a side note it seems it cannot play FLV files and even some MP4 that were actually recorded with this phone but on previous ROM. If I go play it from within ES File Explorer it will play the MP4 but only MX Player will play the FLV.
Would this be Samsung that customized the video player in the stock Gingerbread? Just kinda confusing and any input would be awesome.
I'll try and attach a screenshot of what I mean by ICS gallery
edit: oops, I guess I've posted this in the wrong forum .. since I'm asking a question? sorry! delete / move please if you want to. my apologies.
Because its Samsungs touchwiz gallery. They skin just about everything.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
NOTE user:
"take a deep breath, make sure to get a good look at it, relax and slowly take it in, the size is overwhelming at first but you will have a happy ending afterwards".
Woman:
:O
That doesn't look like 5he stock gallery that i have. Mine has looked like this since i first bought the phone. Through all roms including the official release ics.

There are ICS gallery and camera in the play store. Those are as close to stock as you'll find there.

I know. That's what I'm saying. The ICS Gallery in the Play Store looks like the pic I attached above. Yet when I install stock ICS the gallery doesn't look like that, it looks more like the other pic you see posted in my thread.
This makes the most sense so far. They must have added flash support as well..
Edit: that reply was for skyrocketing727
Forgot to hit the quote button and it would seem impossible to go back and copy/paste text in tapatalk on CM9. I may just be dense though.

When I was still running stock Bell firmware the ICS apps from the play store looked a hell of a lot different than the touchwiz-based camera/gallery.

i777 Stock Music Player?

(Fairly) new S2 user here. Gotta say, coming from an Apple device, Android is leagues ahead.
I've got a particular question regarding the music player in Samsung's stock 2.3.6/4.0.4. Is it possible to use either of these with a Jelly bean ROM? I've tried installing them both at random times, and the phone will immediately state "App Not Installed." However, I've seen people do the same thing for other stock samsung apps that work just fine.
If it helps, I'm running Jellybam 3.3.0. Patiently waiting for their servers to come back from the dead so I can get 4.0.0
Thanks in advance!

What ROM are you running

He use JellyBam.
Man, use the sony walkman that i think came with jellybam or install google play from store.
I was using that before buy poweramp that is the best player on last 12 months.
You can also try Xenoamp beta from xda. Search for it.
About sansung apps you do need to know 1 thing.
There are 2 kinds of Roms.
1- official sansung release base
2- aosp roms
Exclusive Apps from 1 wont work on 2.
Not a big deal cuz there is better options out there.

Thanks guys. After much reading and your help, I came across that conclusion.
I'm a little less noobish everyday
I got the player to work from another rom.

Check this thread - I installed this in my root folder and it works. The only thing iffy is the search function which if you select from the "suggested" items that pop up - crashes the app. But if you type it in and hit the search button (not the suggested) it works flawlessly.

Used it on CM Mod9,10. JellyBAM, and AOKP roms.
All working except for that small bug in the search.
You guys should check out Mediamonkey, it's pretty bad ass.

[Q] JellyBam 4.0.0 A few questions

Hey xda,
this is my first post. yaiks :fingers-crossed:
i got a few questions regarding the JellyBam ROM. I'm using Version 4.0.0 on my S3 International (previous T-Mobile Germany, but now unbranded).
Since now i've tried a lot of different ROM's looking if they suit my needs/wants. For now i stick with JellyBam
However there are a few things were i need some information on:
1. I'd like to have the "stock" camera app and gallery, cause i dont really like the aosp camera app.
It has just not the look i want and at the moment it's lacking a lot of options as well.
Ofc i know that there are some Camera Mods that bring the "old" camera back, but i dont seem to get them working. I've tried like four.
If i'm correct, it's actually the Note 2 Camera, right? So could someone tell me which camera mod actually should work with JellyBam ROM?
Don't need links, just the mod name. This way i can be sure that it has to work and its me who is doing it wrong
2. I also want the stock music player back, cause Apollo is, in my eyes, just bs. I didn't went from iPhone to Samsung to have the same stupid music handling. No folder view.....i mean, really?
Copy some music to your sd, switch to player and select the one you want to hear, that's how it should be done.
But with Apollo you only get the option Album, Artist, Title and Playlist. I don't want to make a playlist, when i can put different tracks in one folder.
And most of us probably have a lot of music, where the id tags are not correct...
So is there a mod for the stock player? That would be really nice!
3. Is there a mod for DLNA? Since i dont seem to find it now, with the AOSP ROM. This was pretty handy with my samsung TV
4. I'm using MPE for communication with my pc. However, i only can look through my S3 via MPE. But in the explorer it wont show up. Everytime i connect the phone it says "missing hardware id".
De-/Reinstalling drivers, etc. didnt work. It's not really a problem. But i just dont like work-arounds.
I also need to have the USB-Debugging turned on all the time, otherwise MPE wouldnt connect as well. Does someone has any ideas on that problem?
Thanks in advance. I hope you gents/ladies can help me out.
Cheers,
goop.Q

Anyone?
you can't have any samsung apps, like camera and player, on non-samsung roms like CM, which JellyBam is based on.
Why are you using an outdated version?

Well i'm aware of that all you say.
But as far as i know you are wrong at the same time. there are mods that bring some of those stock apps back to the ROM, sammy-based or not.
And that should go for the camera as well.
For the version thing:
JellyBam 5.x.x is based on AOSP 4.2.x
Version 4.x.x is based on 4.1. and is much more stable at the moment.
Just because there comes a leak every third day or so doesnt mean, i have to get all the updates.
especially when the FW is working fine. why should i want to tweak on my phone forever?
not the camera, and not the player. it won't work on non-Sammy ROMs unless it specifically says that it's been ported
Ok thanks. Will loook for that.
