[Q] HELP! SIII At&t NOT connecting to Win 7 x64 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
Recently got the AT&T edition of the S3 and i'm having the hardest time connecting it to my Win7 x64 laptop. It just wont recognize it and always comes up as a "USB Device not recognized"
Using Kies I have tried a number of things..
1)Rebooting phone
2)USB Debugging on/off
3)Reinstalling drivers "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_1.5.4.0.exe and/or ATT_I747_GSIII_Samsung_USB_Driver_v1_4_6_0.exe"
4) Clear Cache from Phone
5) Restart pc x numerous times
Every time I connect the USB cable on the phone it says "Connected as a media device" I checked PhoneUtil via *#7284# and under Qualcomm USB settings it has MTP checked, should it say something else?
I have no idea what to do next but to maybe mount a Windows 7 x32bit VirtualMachine and try my luck there... Any help would be great!
Also, under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\USB Drivers\" which is the name of the exact *.inf file for the driver?

Hi there,
I have the same problem, but on the UK SGS3.
What ALL have you done to your phone since you got it?
Rooted, custom rom, backed up efs etc ?

[Q] Unknown Device :(

Hi everyone,
i'm having difficulties to connect my sgs2 to a pc.
i have tried it on 3 different machines (win7 64, win7 64, winxp 32) with the same problem:
I works fine when i first connect the phone in download mode. But as soon as i disconnect the cable i can't connect it again. Windows sais that it doesn't recognize the device and that's it. The device manager shows an "Unknown Device" under USB-Controller. And i am not even able to install drivers by manually pointing windows to a file.
as already sais, i have tried that on 3 different machines. I have tried installing driver via kies and via the driver file that is available here in the forums. i have also tried different usb ports.
Any ideas?
Goddchen
EDIT: Maybe this is an important information: the phone connects fine as long as it is running (can be found via adb, logcat is working, etc...) it only makes problem when in download mode...
I had exactly the same issue yesterday on my Windows 7 box. In the end I connected the phone in normal (not download) mode. Into device manager and uninstalled the drivers through there.
Then I uninstalled Kies and reconnected the phone, I allowed Windows to search windows update to find drivers (not that it did as it couldn't find any and reverted to the local ones. Then disconnect the phone, re-install Kies, run the install drivers from the tools menu, close Kies. Run up Odin and the connect the phone in Download mode, low and behold 2 minutes later after a lengthy installation process the phone was picked up.
I tried a number of things but for some reason this specific order seemed to sort it.
Hey,
thanks for you hints. But they didn't work for me.
I found the problem: believe it or not, it was THE CABLE. I went and got another cable and this one is working fine all the time. The other one doesn't... Very strange...

USB Device not recognized / Unknown Device

I'm having an issue where my thunderbolt does not recognize my device any longer. I used to have it set up with pdanet and everything worked well for about a week. All of a sudden, any computer i tried to plug the device into, wouldn't detect the phone. A friend of mine has tried his thunderbolt on my computer and it detects it.
When plugging my phone in, it pops up an error message with "USB Device not Recognized." In the device manager, the phone shows up as Unknown Device. I have tried this on 3 different pc's, using 3 different data cables. No USB symbol displays on the taskbar of the phone when I plug it in, however, it does charge.
What I have tried:
Changing data cables.
Using another PC.
Uninstalling device drivers and letting windows re-detect and install.
Downloaded HTC Sync and ran it after uninstalling drivers again and re-plugging the phone.
Changed different Connection settings on the phone, such as USB Debuggin on/off, and changing it to HTC Sync Mode, Charge Only, Disk Drive, etc
Mounted and unmounted SD Card in the phone settings.
OS: Windows 7 x64
Thank you for any help you may provide.
same problem
I have the same problem with HTC mytouch 3g 32B Android 2.2.1 when I plug it through usb under Vista.
Any suggestions?
Try installing the usb drivers from htc if you haven't.
http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/USB_driver_20101122_release.zip
I have download the HTC usb drivers but when i go to control panel and uninstall the unknown device it just reinstalls it. when i try to update drivers using the location
ie C:\Users\sxristi\Downloads\android-usb-driver\Android USB Driver\i386
i get a reply
The best software for you device is already installed. Windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date.
and it continues to point to
unknown device
Oh one more things i got the usb drivers from Android SDK Manager the google usb drivers revision 4 and the weird thing is that i do not get the trident usb nor the debug icon on my HTC when i plug it in to my vista. I did get it once or twice before but not in general since the usb devices are not recognized. However when i boot on my Ubuntu os then i do get them recognized. so i guess the problem is with windows drivers somehow...
Thanks for the replies.
I've tried to install the drivers from HTC but Windows says that the driver is not compatible with my the device.
Also, I tried on a system with Windows XP and everything worked as intended, but I cannot get it to work properly in Win 7 x64 anymore.
When my win7 comp no longer sees my Tbolt I have to toggle the USB Debugging off then back on. Usually within a few seconds it reads it again. If that does not work I have also used the option to turn on internet pass through then change it back to hard drive mode. Either of those usually work for me. My drivers I used were from android sdk if that makes any difference. Hope this helps.

These didn't work, but thanks for the input
HTC
My problem continues under Vista OS. I called HTC and they told me to re install their Sync after removing Adobe Air and all HTC drivers and Google USB drivers. I did that and reinstalled Sync and still nothing. They also told me to call microsoft for it seems operating system conflict.
My conclusion yields toward windows conflict. But I can not figure out this conflict. Perhaps something I have installed does not let my vista recognize the HTC android device and uses the windows usb drivers to create this "Unknown Device" under usb serial bus controllers. once it is an unknown device forget about Sync or ADB etc... The phone is just not recognized as android and you can not do much with it via windows.
For the person who suggested to turn "USB Debugging" on-off, i did that and still the computer recognizes that there is a usb device but again it says "usb device not recognized unknown device.."
any additional suggestions???
I've verified that my phone works fine on Windows XP. I still cannot connect to windows 7, though.
Try turning OFF Fast Boot and turning ON USB debugging. this helped for me.
same problem
I have a similar problem too .. i know its not the computer as other phones and pen drives are working ok.
Plus this phone has same problem on other computers too, where as other phones work fine.
So it has to do something with the phone and not the drivers or computer in anyway
I have the same problem, no PC recognizes my HTC Thunderbolt. Now change cable and tried with windows xp, 7 and 8. Is there any solution I can not root. I want to change the rom factory rom I do not like but I can not do anything because I do not recognize the usb. Also the menu does not appear when I connect via USB in the notification bar.

[Q] Please help: Kies not connecting...

Hi, I have a problem connecting to Kies. I have been searching for hours over the internet for a solution but nothing worked.
Until yesterday I was connecting normally to Kies, syncing my mobile and checking for updates. Yesterday Kies gave me a message that there is a new update (for kies software), so I accepted the update and got the latest version (2.0.3.11082_152). Since I did that i couldnt connect my SGS2 to Kies again. It keeps on saying "connecting" on the screen but never ends and never show my SGS2 under "connected devices" .
I already have "debugging mode" unchecked. I used the option to update drivers several times. I tried to download Kies again at least 8 times (both the latest version as well as the original version I previously had), I tried unmounting my SD card, I tried several USB cables, but still getting "connecting" that stays forever.
BTW, I can connect to my PC in USB storage mode.
I have stock Android 2.3.3 with Kernel version JPKH1 (Arabic enabled).
I really appreciate any help from anyone.
I have read in many forums that I need to pick "Kies mode" by going to Settings>Wireless and network> USB settings. Well, on my phone when I go to Settings>Wireless and netwrok I dont have "USB settings" in the list but have "USB utilities" instead. Under "USB utilities" the only option I have is USB mass storage. IS THIS WHAT OTHERS HAVE ON THEIR SGS2s ???
same prob
Anyone, PLEASE....

Off course thats what we all have your other forums are talking nonsense .
Suggestion turn phone OFF turn PC off reboot PC Reboot phone .
Start Kies connect Samsung USB cable .
Wait for Kies to connect .
jje
And make sure you run Kies as Administrator if you are running Win7
I used to have the same issue.
If you are using a 3rd party launcher, try turning that off and returning to touch wiz, as that caused issues for me, also make sure the phone is unlocked.
Failing that, turn the computer off, and plug the phone in, and then boot the computer back up, that might force it to install the drivers.
Same problem with me.i have win xp.but newer kies verson does not support sgs2.one another problem is i accidently uninstalled samsung usb driver for mobile phone.now i connect phone with pc via usb cable, the pc every time says fond new hardware and try to install it but could not sucseed.when i manually install driver,pc every time says "mobile phone has being used, eject the phone and reboot pc then install usb driver".where no phone is conected.why pc says eject phone where no phone is conected? Please help me please.

Saolved: Kies not connecting
Hi. To any who is faing this problem, here is the soultion that worked with me.
After trying everything, from rebooting PC and phone several times, using Kies "Resoultion Connection Eror" to download drivers many times, making sure the USB debugging is turned off from setting, etc,,,,, NOTHING WORKED
So:
1- I disconnected my phone from PC
2- I went to PC Control Panel>System and Maintenance>System>Device Manager
Under "USB Controllers" I didnt find anything with Samsung name. Instead, I found 2 entries under the name "USB Composite Device". Using right click I uninstalled them.
3- I reconnected my phone with Kies closed. As soon as I reconnected my phone, I had a message saying that Samsung Drivers are being added
4- I opened KIES, and Voila... my phone connected and I could see its name under Kies connected devices.
5- Now under Device Manager I can see "Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device"
My interpretation is that although I tried to update the Samsung drivers thru Kies many times, the drivers that already existed for the "USB Composite Device" (which I uninstalled in step 2) were forbidding Samsung drivers to take their place. So when I unistalled the USB Composite Devices everything worked the way ot should.
Hope this could help anyone who faces this problem.
Solved!!
Just go through the trouble shooting procedure which shows up on the screen when Kies is running and your device is not able to connect. It'll download some driver and automatically fix the issue.

This device cannot start (Code 10) - PC Android USB error?

I am using Windows 7 64 Bit..
I have followed the correct procedure for installing the USB vcom mtek drivers and still I get this error.. It says : This device cannot start. (Code 10)
I have tried restarting the computer with the phone turned on and off, I've also tried changing the USB connection settings on the phone to"media device (MTP).. Also tried the "USB Storage" option.
No joy.. Any clues as to how to install this drive without the code 10 error????
I want to flash my phone but I can't because the Smart Phone Flash Tool cannot connect to my device in the way it want's to.
I can navigate the files of my phone via the PC though..
When I changed my USB connection settings type to 'Media Device (MTP) I could see 'Leagoo Lead_5' in my Portable Devices section of my Device Manager on my PC..
Does anybody use these forums?
What make and model of phone is it?
with the make and model we can help more by finding better drivers
but another thing to try right now, is try plug it into a different USB port(one at the back thats part of the motherboard rather than a expansion front style port)

[Help] PC unable to connect to Honor 9

Hi,
After the most recent update (OTA), when I connect my phone to my PC, regardless of what mode I have the USB set for on the phone, I can no longer connect
to my phone.
It worked flawlessly before.
The Huawei HiSuite also cannot connect (although I don't norm ally use that anyway).
I have tried reinstalling ADB and also HiSuite to no avail.
One thing I do notice is that there was a HDB driver missing. When I rebooted my PC it has now changed to 'USB Composite device' but shows the error
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
{Bad Image}
%hs is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0x
I've tried to automatically install a driver, again no joy. (Because the device is not recognised, it just says it could not a find a suitable driver).
If I uninstall the device and then plug my phone back in we then start with the HDB device (for which there is no driver according to MS), which upon reboot becomes the 'USB Composite device' again.
So, anyone know how I can fix this? I'd like access to my phone through my PC if possible.
TIA (Thanks in Advance)
I know it's obvious, but have you tried a different usb port.

Yes. Front and back of PC as well through a hub.
It makes a sound like it connects, then I get a popup on my phone "Charge only / Transfer files / Transfer photos" and regardless of which one I select, it then disconnects.
Somewhat annoying. It worked okay before latest update.
I've even reinstalled ADB, even though I'm fairly certain this has nothing to do with it.
Thanks for your reply anyway!
[Solved]
I managed to solve this by plugging in my Honor 9. On the device manager page in Windows take a look at the 'USB Composite Device' item and selecting with an exclamation mark against it and right click it and select"Uninstall device" from the menu. When it asks to remove the driver, select yes. Unplug your phone. Reboot your PC. Upon plugging your phone back in, your device will be re-detected and Windows will install the driver correctly.
