Hello all
I have a rather weird question...it seems Samsung is abit late in introducing bigger capacities of any new device they make (they introduce 16GB first then the rest later, or in some regions maybe never, like where i live).
I was thinking....upon releasing of the 32GB or 64GB versions of the s3 in other markets....i could buy one online and have it delivered to me here in dubai...then ill grab the middle east version of the latest ROM from sammobile and update it via odin....so as to enable further official updates via kies for my region.
Is this possible ? I mean will it work ??

Why not just get a large capacity class 10 memory card and it saves the hassle?

Reason is: games.
As u may know...games data are installed on phone memory ! And 16GB in todays world is not barely enough

well...anyone ?
Providing its the international model it will work .

thanks for your quick response
so, i can grab the middle east ROM from sammobile and do the flash using odin, and them am done ? Or more tricks are needed ?
Will it support kies normally ?
There are apps like Directory Bind that can move data to the sd card but have the data still show up as a folder in the internal memory. Works perfectly and it's a lot cheaper if you compare buying sd cards to buying a phone with more memory.
GL to SD works for me, were can you find directory bind? i cant find on google play store?
I got it somewhere on XDA. Try to google it.

hmm....seems good to me ! Then no need for a 32GB version !

Well, I got a new kingston 32gb microsd a while back. It's supported by the device (i've look about and know someone who has 30gb out of 32gb used in their x10)
Now the thing is, i have a few problems with it. It's not being recoginized by the phone! I had to format it when I first got it. Which took hours to do. It would only hold about 4gb of data I currently have on my phone, anything else would go on, then get deleted.
After another formatting, the phone doesn't recoginize it! Any ideas at all would be appericated. It's a 32GB Kingstom class4. I have searced about on these forums btw, and a few other Android and sony forums.
Also, how much of an improvment would I see with data2sd if I got this to work?
Thank you, Darren.
I had the exact card as u with similar issues. I only bought that brand cuz it was cheaper. Then i tried my sandisk again and no issues. I trust only sandisk and i use my 16 gig one. I believe my kingston fried itself. Go to www.amazon.com the 16 gig r very cheap i think now but the 32 r more. Sorry i cant find u a solution.

Big question is where you bought the card, you could have bought a fake that only holds 4gb even though it shows 32
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Could be a fake if you bought it from ebay, basically what the cons do is flash the card to display a higher size, a lot that have been circulated are the 32gigs that are flashed from 2gig cards. I've seen this complaint on a few forums now,the good news is you can download a program that can check if you have a fake card and also what the actual size is. You will have to google it though as I don't have the link, hope this helps

When will 32gb version of SGS2 arrive/be in store?
Where in Aberdeen?
Price?
No one has any idea when/if it gets released. Everything now is speculation.
I got the 16gb version and popped my 32gb micro sd in. Roughly 41gbs total. Can't imagine i could even use an extra 20gb.

Not everyone needs space , many people use HTC devices with craptastic 1 gig of storage. I could use 2 Terabytes if it had , the more the better , movies , music videos , tv shows you name it.
My current SGS Captivate has 16gb+32Gb sd and its not enough , SGS II 32gb+32gb would be decent upgrade
Wish they made one with regular sized SD CARD none micro , could use 64+gb cards.

As ghost77 say, more = better
Hi everyone,
i am very frustated about my external sdcard.
When mounting it via USB on my pc and copying mp3s or images to it i only get ~500 kbps, even an mp3 album takes several minutes to copy?
Any ideas what might cause this slow speed?

For starters what class is your SD card and which brand, an awful lot of higher class cheaper cards do not perform as stated. Especially ones from ebay.

it this one from amazon:

wouldn't think that the no1 top selling card from amazon (directly ordered and shipped from amazon, not another company) would be crap?

What rom you got ? i had abnormal slow usb transfer on my Nexus one before , it was from nightly cyanogen mod , flashing different rom fixed it.
Oh and i don't have such problem on my SGS2 with samsung based roms. (did not try cyanogen )
Try reformatting the card in windows not on the phone
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
It depends on the card and how fragmented it is.
i will try formatting it under windows, thanks for the hint.
in fact i am currently on a CM7 nightly, but the problem was there even before i flashed CM7 (from litening rom which is samsung based).
there is only 2 gig of data on the card so far so i don't think there is big fragmentation on it already.
I have a 16gb class 10 bought from play.com and have never noticed the transfer speeds being particularly slow, however whenever i format my cards i use the Panasonic sd card formatter. A quick google should give you the software. I remember a lot of threads about the htc hero (my old phone) and the link between using the windows format tool and the write and or read speed being slow. You never know, It might be worth a try

Hi All,
There seem to be several different Galaxy S III boards here so I just picked one at random (if it's the wrong place would somebody be good enough to move it to the correct place? Thanks)
I was in a phone shop here in the UK the other day asking about the SIII, and specifically the differences between the three types 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB the salesman said instead of getting one of the bigger ones, I should just get the 16GB model and buy a larger sd, I said that isn't how it worked, but he called another guy over who 100% agreed with him. Still not convinced I came home and had a quick sniff around on-line. This did not help clarify things, there seems to be just as much confusion out there.
Can I ask the experts here at XDA to give a definitave answer on this.
Thanks.

Added later to clarify: I currently have a rooted HTC Desire with a 4GB a2sd partition. Even though the a2sd partition is practally empty the phone keeps complaining that I don't have enough space to install/update things. Although there are thing I want installed that aren't because of this it isn't a HUGE problem, but it's happening more and more as apps get bigger and bigger.
I'm not a big gamer (I pay some but not that frequently), I am a big app nut though. Yes 16GB is more than enough space for me right now, and I know there are options to move some files elsewhere, but if these options are as unreliable as a2sd am I going to be stuck for space again in 12 - 18 months time like I am now?
If you are not a gamer, 16gb model should fit well for daily usage.

You can always use the mod internal2external by Mattiadj in developnent section. Root is required.

If u are a gamer and u don lik to root ur phone( love stock) thn u should go for 32 or 64gb..
If u are a gamer and u lik rooting then u can go for 16gb version +64gb SD card.
If u are a regualr user..without gaming..16gb is sufficient.
Well since the phone has an SD slot you really can just buy a 16GB phone and buy a 64GB SD card..
Sent from my GT-I9300
You can only install apps on internal memory on the S3 also apps can also only use internal memory, which is why people said if you are a mobile gamer to get the 32 or 64GB version.
If you are just a normal user the 16GB will be absolutely fine, just use an sd card, I would say the store staff were half right, they probably don't know we can't install apps to sd.

I best his confusing RAM with non-volatile storage...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Game apps themselves don't use that much data, but it's the game data which can be massive. 9mm itself has about 2gb of data.
Game data can be moved to external storage so even if you are a gamer, 16gb is still good enough. I use 'gl to sd' from the play store which allows me to move data to the external card. There are other options as well, like 'directory bind'.

Clarification.
Hi,
Just added this to the OP to (hopefully) clarify a little:
I currently have a rooted HTC Desire with a 4GB a2sd partition. Even though the a2sd partition is practically empty the phone keeps complaining that I don't have enough space to install/update things. Although there are thing I want installed that aren't because of this, it isn't a HUGE problem, but it's happening more and more as apps get bigger and bigger.
I'm not a big gamer (I play some but not that frequently), I am a big app nut though. Yes 16GB is more than enough space for me right now, and I know there are options to move some files elsewhere if needed, but if these options are as unreliable as a2sd am I going to be stuck for space again in 12 - 18 months time like I am now?

Anybody want to add anything else?
Yes app2sd sucks a bit, I'm using something somehow similar, but more reliable (at least for my opinion)(also additional ext4 partition [20gb], but only mounted at /sdcard/Android to have the game data somewhere else and also because ext4 is way better for such big folders than messy fat32 or exfat).
But I would say go at least for the 32 gb, I'm not that heavy gamer, but I have some high-end games installed and the space is pretty tight at my 16gb device (if iwouldn't have put it to another place and also because I got some other stuff on it which I haven't moved yet).
Yes all is movable somehow, but why should you if you can get more space from the beginning.
16gb are for sure ok and I'm still happy with the device the same way i would with more internal, but I would have taken at least 32gb if it has been available when I bought the device.

so this is the reason they have 16 and 32g models. lock app installs to physical storage so people don't buy large SD cards and rather buy the larger 32gb or 64gb models.
too bad i didn't know this or i would of bought the 32gb.. i figured i could get 16gb and use sd card for extra apps but based on reading it looks like it requires hacking or apps that make symlinks..
why bother putting an SD slot if they're going to restrict what you can put on it.
Hey guys!
This being my first thread here, I hope it is in the right section
Here is my problem
I am looking to buy a new smartphone, and came up with the Sone Xperia ZR, its just around my budget (did not buy it yet, still looking around)
specs wise it is very good, but however there is one drawback, it has 8 Gb internal, (can be extended tough)
I think nowadays 8Gigs is like, nothing..
so my possible sollution was this,
I was going to get an sd card for it, install apps on my phones internal memory but install HD games on the sd card with apps2sd (the one that does not require root)
also movies and music... go to the sd card
what do you think, is this realistic and will it work? I think for normal apps about 4.5(?) gigs should be enough as most of them don't take alof of space, and I am not planning to install 200 apps anyway
Regards
U will have better performence if u intall all in internal mem.
Sd for music and vidz
