Hi,
I just bought HTC Desire V ( dual - sim) with Android 4.0.3. I have not done any root on Android phones before. I have done only rooting for Kindle Fire.... what's the easiest way to root it ? Thanks !!

I have written a guide to root this exact phone. It's a pity we don't have a HTC Wind/t328w/Desire V forum yet. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746561 Good luck.

Yeah I too want a htc desire v thread. And by the way this phone is also available in India. It was released in August.
HTC Desire V is also available in Pakistan.
As for rooting HTC Desire V, here is a working tutorial + flashing CWM: http://www.teamandroid.com/2012/09/...oid-403-install-clockworkmod-custom-recovery/
HTC Desire V is also available in the UK now, I'm getting one on Friday. Can we have a Desire V forum please :fingers-crossed:
HTC Desire V is also available in Indonesia for Rp 2.999.000 (around $300). It's only major drawback is the single core CPU and minimalistic support from devs (maybe due to dual sim and asian market). Anyway, I liked my device.

guys i really need ur help!
which is a better option?
desire s or htc one v?
I've heard the desire has better battery life as well as a solid developers thread..do you have any specs? Personally, my next phone will have camera flash and more ram...I hope the sgs3 will have camera flash.I haven't read anything about the upgrade though lets hope it rolls out with ICS 4.0.4

Desire S if you get it at a lower price than HTC One V.
HTC One V if you want always to be on the top in OS.
Loving the desire a, but it's over a year old, quality developer support, believe that it has more ram than v, plus removable battery and sd card
Currently running ics, although still waiting for HTC to release official ics along with source code for kernel 3.0

i want to know if htc desire x will get jelly
Htc desire x specs are capable for jelly bean. But sadly htc says somewhere on the internet (just google it) desire x will not get jelly bean upgrades.
But let's see. Who knows htc will change their plans

This info isn't right. This phone will get jb. No site saying the opposite. Even HTC published that all 2012 phones (excluding one v and desire c) will get jb (so all above 512 mb ram). They started the update based on device relevancy so OX+, OX, OS and desire x is next in the line (I wrote on htc support and they said Q1 2013

i have try to find on google wether desire x will get jellybean or not i just cant find it.
but i do find that des x not gonna get a jelly bean updates from here.
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Android-Jelly-Bean-Update-List-for-HTC-Smartphones-Leaks-313471.shtml
"Although some of these smartphones have already received the promised Jelly Bean update, some of these handsets haven’t been mentioned by HTC yet when referring to its Android 4.1 upgrade plans.
The leaked details come in line with HTC’s latest statement, which mentions that the company will not update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphones with 512MB or less RAM, including the HTC Desire X and HTC Sensation."
i do hope that articles wrong though and of course that is not 100% correct imo unless htc officials said so.
until then. we'll just have to wait
The article is wrong because before the launch of desire x, the specs are little lower. Guys on the leak sites thought that mid range phone will have 512 ram. But HTC made it slighter higher so the required specs for jb have been met. As you can read in the quoted article is says: all 512 mb ram devices, including one v, desire x and sensation...

I hope you're right, but HTC is known for not so great support in providing official updates for their devices. The only thing that can keep our hope is that DesX is still a relatively new device and HTC provides official support for about 2 years from the release of a device.

I will tell you one thing dude. Tell your friend to buy HTC One S or One VX or anything other than Desire X.
FOR ONE DAMN GOOD REASON, THEY TOOK OUT FULL SENSE FROM DESIRE X. (CAPS MODE COS ME MAD LIKE HULK)
I mean they could have included the full sense (4.1) instead of a crapped down 4.1a. I bought DX to get the goodies of full sense along with ICS. I was really disappointed to see it was lite version. And i am afraid they might strip down 4+ to 4+a...now that would be really a kick in the a$$
Sensation XE, XL all had similar ram of 768mb and had full sense. Desire X is supposed to be greater than them as its the next iteration of htc brand
So tell your friend to buy a phone, if he is buying HTC, a full sense phone like the ones i mentioned above if he wants to remain near the budget of Desire X.
PS: Thankx to chefs like ckpv5 and The Android Manual we are atleast getting a "sense" of full sense, which my pal, is actually ported from One S, One X if i am not wrong.
For example: you can see why lite and full sense is mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2081430

yeah man. i was disappointed i didnt. i checked the specs and i just thought it had all the stuff. i was so happy to see the little sucker i didnt perform a full check in store.
later i noticed it didnt had some stuffs like widgets, themes, scenes and all that load i was hoping for. never will this happen to me.
so if i get a new htc it would go through full inspection first on the youtube (lots of unboxing videos) and in store also.
thankx for the arrow in the knee comment. hehehehe
I'm glad it's not full sense because I don't use sense at all (launcher, lock etc). That's the reason I bought it

As said before, i have no mails or screenshots. The discussion was personal on their f&q online thread. I have no need to lie. Even if they lied to me, I think that update will be soon because otherwise the htc will go against its own rules and policy. (2012 phones with more than 512 ram - all checked by desire x)

sad news guys htc desire x will note get jelly bean
The leaked details come in line with HTC’s latest statement, which mentions that the company will not update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphones with 512MB or less RAM, including the HTC Desire X
Obviously, this device is missing from the leaked list, but that was to be expected. Those who still own this Android phone might want to upgrade to a newer device or search for other unofficial Jelly Bean builds.

Just look at "What devices will not get Android 4.1?" and you'll see that Desire X is NOT included in that list (unlike the One V and Desire C) so we don't know when it will be released or if it's not, it's just not confirmed.

Lockscreen widgets are only available in 4.2, we won't get that for a long time.
Search for Google Now on ICS Project in XDA and you'll get Google Now.
How the Desire S has got many roms i mean like a cm10.1 & many others without had received an official jb update or any other upd but never mind. The similiar spec еven the desire x is better than S. Pls guys explain to me right now!

I think it has to do with the fact that the Desire S received S-Off and the Desire X did not because revolution team stopped deving...
We have really less no of devs here who can build AOSP roms..
