Hello,
I am currently running jokersax's CM9 ( 20120612 version ) on my MoPho. Whenever I connect my USB cable, it automatically mounts the external as well as internal SD cards on mass storage and this is a real pain as it stops any music I'm playing or anything else to do with the SD card. I get a toast saying "The SD Card is now shared via USB" a couple of seconds after I connect the USB cable.
How do I stop this?
And I do have doubleTwist installed but its "Auto USB" option is disabled. I do not have WinAmp installed. Are there any other apps that might do this ? Any way to find out ? ( Say using adb logcat? ). I also tried uninstalling doubleTwist but it didn't make any difference.

Is there anyway to get the X10mini pro to show up in windows as a standard USB mass storage device, like my camera or MP3 player? I want to be able to simply copy files over to the phone without using Sony’s software etc. Is there an app I can download for this?
when i connne it shows up as long as there is a memory card not sure if need to select mount usb on the phone menu , if you want the phone memory im not sure its possible to view but as its not that big i guess ur just looking for the memory card
how do you select mount usb on the phone menu? I am still unable to connect this phone as a usb mass storage device and upload files to the card without the Sony Software

When you plug in the USB cable from the PC to the phone, are you greeted with this menu (see attached image)
Thanks I am familiar with that screen, however I can't get the phone to be treated as a USB mass storage device. I just want to be able to browse the memory card like on an MP3 player, camera etc without having to use the Sony software. Is there anyway I can do this natively in windows or linux?

When that screen pops up, just select "Connect my phone", and it'll mount it in mass storage mode. Works perfectly fine for me on PCs without the software installed. Haven't tried it on linux, but it works on my car's stereo that plays mp3s off a connected usb device, so I can't see why it wouldn't
My phone works like that but only with the phone drivers installed. I treid this before I installed the phone drivers but windows just said the drive was unreadable. Also you can't browse the entire directory structure.
Very odd. My Windows XP SP2 has no drivers in it for the phone but manages to read the memory card
Works fine here as regular usb mass storage in Mac OS X.
Sent from my U20a using XDA App
Ive just suddenly had a brainwave: asking for drivers? That to me sounds like its in USB debugging mode. Switch that off and it should be ok
When I plug my Atrix into a device (computer, car, etc) via USB, the SD card auto-mounts. I would like to be able to adjust when it mounts but the auto-mount isn't a huge problem. My issue is that when I unplug the phone from a device the SD card doesn't automatically remount.
Is there a way to set up the SD card to automatically remount? Is there a manual way to remount besides restarting the phone?

Did u try mounting in Settings --> SD card and storage
Yes, when I go to that menu it says, "Insert an SD card to mount". I'm not able to click "mount" because it is grayed out with the above message on it.
Any other ideas?
When u plug your phone in, there should be a USB icon @ the top of the screen. Pull that down, and select 'Do Nothing' that should clear up your problem. Always make sure you do this before unplugging your phone if it mounts the SDCard to avoid corrupting the data. Let me know if this fixed your problem.
I have the same exact issue. Selecting "None" for usb mode does nothing for me either. I have to reboot my phone just to get the SD Card and Internal storage to re-mount.
I don't know if this is related but I am also running ADEO ROM.

I'm rooted but running stock otherwise.
Selecting "none" just affects the phone's internal storage, not the SD card. Also, whenever i plug my phone into any device it automounts the SD, I'm never given an option. It is really frustrating when I just want to charge via USB and not mount my SD card.
Any other ideas? Is there an app that would solve this?
EDIT: I'm also having an issue where my PC won't let me "eject" the internal storage of the phone or the storage on the SD (drives F and G) so I have no choice but to just unplug it.
I should add that with my case my phone unmounts internal storage AND the sd card. It's to the point to where I am using adbWireless in order to push or run any other commands needed for adb.

Yeah you and I are having the exact same problems. This is really aggravating. However, I might have found a solution. In the app switchpro, you can set one of the controls (icons) to be "media remount". I have had soem limited success with it. Try it out yourself and let me know if it fixes the problem.
Thanks
I'm having the same problem. I downloaded the SwitchPro app and used the toggle mount/unmout successfully, so i don't have to restart the phone. It's a shame I had to buy an app to fix a problem with a new phone. I believe the first day of owning the phone I may have unplugged from the cpu while in media link mode for the usb connection, but since then I have it set to "none".
I am not rooted, nor am I running adeo rom as mentioned above.

OK I'm glad we've found a fix of sorts at least.
That reload media widget works for my music player. Unfortunately, my widgets (dependent on teh SD card for skins) don't reload properly liek the rest of my media does. I'm still stuck powering on and powering off every time i unplug from a device.
SD Card problem
I think I have the opposite problem. I just rooted using aRoot. Now, when plugging the phone into my computer using a USB cable, the phone says the SD card is ready to be removed. And the Media Link can't read it either. Once I unplug the phone from the computer, the SD card is able to be used by the phone.
Any ideas?

My problems started after I used aRoot as well. Unfortunately, I never really found a solutions. I've just been restarting my phone whenever i plug it in. In your case, have you tried switching it into mass storage mode after plugging it in?

I've tried every setting with no luck. All I wanted to do is add some music to my SD card. So I ended up taking the card out of the phone and inserting it directly into my computer in order to add the music. Not the best solution to the problem.
No definitely not. At least the files get transferred faster that way
I am running CM9 4.5.1 with GApps v12 on an Atrix 4G. The issue I am having is that when I connect via USB cable to my XP system, my PC detects the two sdcards (internal and external) but I can not access either one of them..."Please insert disk into drive" like they are not formatted.
I did find that the external sdcard is now being seen in the phone as folder EMMC and both of them have data so I don't think it is a format issue.
I have tried to connect via USB using the MTP and Mass Storage Option and rebooted the phone both times after the change was made. Neither attempt worked.
I have searched through the forum as best I could but with the CM9 thread pushing 1000 pages, I'm not sure if anyone has come across this. If so, what was done or are there any suggestions out there? Thanks.
Never mind, I figured it out after installing new USB drivers from Moto and trying everything else. Found out it was a simple/stupid oversight on my part. So if this happens to anyone else....
Even though I had Mass Storage enabled in the settings, when I connected the phone via USB to my XP Pro Pc, I had to pull down the notification bar, select USB storage, and turn it ON. I guess by default it is turned off. Once that was done, I am now able to access the sdcards on my PC.
I did find during all of the research and trial/error that the sdcard-ext is now the sdcard and the sdcard is now emmc in the folders. I believe there is a way to change this (xda thread) but I can live with the way it is.
It seems that with the JB update, UMS has been disabled when trying to attach the phone to an external device like my stereo, before the update all I had to do was plug the USB cable in and I could play music stored on my SD card. Now all I get is a message saying "USB Unavailable". I can still see the SD card through a Windows 7 machine as long as I change the connection type to "Disk Drive", but that only works when attaching to the PC, (which has the latest HTC drivers installed".
So is there a way to re-enable UMS for portability to connect to the car stereo? By default, HTC MTP is the only protocol available...
Hi.
I have my Galaxy S3 for some time now, and i want to transfer some music to my phone.
I have an SD Card with 64gb and of course, a computer
now what happens is that i start copying some music to my phone but after a few the phone simply disconnect and connect, which makes the file transfer very hard. (unless i'm gonna move song after song...)
Obviously this is not how the phone should work so this is why i am here.
Try Kies Air or Airdroid which are wireless transfers.

That happened to me too but only one time while transferring 5GB of music from my computer to my SD card so it wasn’t terrible. You can use the tools mentioned by sriram231092, or put your files on any of your clouds storage, then download them to your phone and transfer them to your SD card.
Edit: I found out reading Boeffla-Config Settings that if you have Boeffla Kernel, you can change the USB connection as UMS on demand, which simplify data transfer:
http://www.boeffla-kernel.de/non-joomla/en/bc-settings.html#Overview said:
1.1 UMS Mode
Default: Off
Expected impact: Make external phone SD card available as drive on an USB-connected PC
With Android 4.x versions, Google decided to only use the MTP (media transfer protocol) for communication when you connect your device to a PC.
This prevents the memory to show up as a drive but only as a device.
By toggeling this checkbox, the external SD card gets unmounted internally (not accessible from the phone anymore) and the protocol is switched from MTP to UMS (usb mass storage) to make it appear as a normal USB drive on your PC. This simplifies data transfer a lot.
Please do not forget to untick this again after you finished using the connection, so it gets mounted and visible on your Android device again.
Note: When this does not properly work, it is most likely an issue with USB drivers installed on your PC.
