Driver problem - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Need a little help here. I cannot get my phone to connect to my computer, I'm running Windows 7. I have kies installed and have also downloaded the drivers directly from the Samsung site, but still cannot connect. When I plug in, it says installing drivers, but then gives me an error.
If I go to Device Manager, I see SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device but with the yellow exclamation mark. Under driver details it shows the correct driver installed, but has a Code 10 Error. "The Device cannot be started".
I've rebooted comp, rebooted phone, toggled USB debugging, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, tried 2 different USB cables, and nothing is working. Anyone have any ideas?

I didn't have to do everything you listed to get it to work, but I did have to run the installer (T-Mobile_T999_GSIII_Samsung_USB_Driver_v1_4_6_0.exe) twice to get it to work.. it failed the first time.
I just unplugged and then plugged cable back in, ran the installer and installed again over old drivers.
You can also try going into Device Manager, right-click on the phone and "Update Driver Software" manually... installer extracts all drivers to the C:\Program Files\SAMSUNG\USB Drivers folder.

Still no luck. It installs the Samsung USB modem drivers fine and shows the phone correctly, but fails on the MTP Driver section.

Just for future reference for anyone that comes across this while searching. I did get this fixed. I tried a couple more usb cables and a friends computer with the same issues.
What I ended up doing was a factory reset on the phone. Plugged phone in after first boot and mtp drivers installed right away.

Vibrant bricked and cannot be recognized by windows

So I switched to the energy miui yesterday and it worked for like 20 minutes then wouldn't boot up anymore. for hours I kept getting "usb device not recognized" error then out of nowhere I got it to work and started to use odin to flash back. Well during that time it failed and wouldn't start up for awhile but now I can get it into download mode again but my pc won't recognize my vibrant no matter what I do.
I run win 7 x64 with 2 different cables, 2 vibrants (the other vibrant has zero problems connecting and works every time with my pc) and I've tried different usb ports. I've taken the battery out re plugged the usb several times and even tried installing all my usb hubs and nothing.
What can I do to get my computer to recognize my vibrant so I can fix it?
Usually i get "usb device not recognized" message when some stupid reason samsung drivers stop working. What i do is uninstall them, reboot and then install them again. Give it a try, also make sure you're connected to usb port on back of the computer. You can also try heimdall if odin doesn't recognize your phone. Couple of time that has worked for me also.
Try installing Samsung Kies mini, it will automatically install the drivers so that your device can hopefully be recognized, if that does not work, well just use your other vibrant.
I gave that a try but I cannot seem to get heimdall to even work. I keep getting random errors each time. 3 different ones so far. Is there any other way I can do to force my computer to recognize it? And I have the keis but it hasn't helped either. It just tells me to connect.i don't think it is the drivers when my other vibrant connects just fine without problems
If you were in MIUI, you are a going to need the Nexus S drivers for Odin to recognize your phone. You can get them here:

Q: Where can I get the Nexus S drivers?
A: Download and install the Android SDK here then download "Google USB Driver package, revision 4"
Once downloaded, right click on "Computer", "Manage", "Device Manager", "Nexus S", "Update Driver Software", and point it to wherever you isntalled the SDK.

[Q] Unknown Device :(

Hi everyone,
i'm having difficulties to connect my sgs2 to a pc.
i have tried it on 3 different machines (win7 64, win7 64, winxp 32) with the same problem:
I works fine when i first connect the phone in download mode. But as soon as i disconnect the cable i can't connect it again. Windows sais that it doesn't recognize the device and that's it. The device manager shows an "Unknown Device" under USB-Controller. And i am not even able to install drivers by manually pointing windows to a file.
as already sais, i have tried that on 3 different machines. I have tried installing driver via kies and via the driver file that is available here in the forums. i have also tried different usb ports.
Any ideas?
Goddchen
EDIT: Maybe this is an important information: the phone connects fine as long as it is running (can be found via adb, logcat is working, etc...) it only makes problem when in download mode...
I had exactly the same issue yesterday on my Windows 7 box. In the end I connected the phone in normal (not download) mode. Into device manager and uninstalled the drivers through there.
Then I uninstalled Kies and reconnected the phone, I allowed Windows to search windows update to find drivers (not that it did as it couldn't find any and reverted to the local ones. Then disconnect the phone, re-install Kies, run the install drivers from the tools menu, close Kies. Run up Odin and the connect the phone in Download mode, low and behold 2 minutes later after a lengthy installation process the phone was picked up.
I tried a number of things but for some reason this specific order seemed to sort it.
Hey,
thanks for you hints. But they didn't work for me.
I found the problem: believe it or not, it was THE CABLE. I went and got another cable and this one is working fine all the time. The other one doesn't... Very strange...

[Q] Trouble being recognized. :(

Okay, so I am attempting to flash back to stock, or anything that WORKS at this point.
I can get my phone into download mode and I connect it to my computer, but I get a rather annoying bubble that says "USB Device not recognized... one of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."
I goto device manager and check my USB devices and it is listed as "Unknown Device" I look at it's properties and see "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
So, I check the driver details.
It says "No drivers are required or have been loaded for this device"
So I goto update drivers, browse to where I keep them and see "Windows has determined the drivers for this device are up to date."
I have reinstalled all my drivers using various methods. I have tried new USB cables and all of my USB ports.
No matter what I do ODIN won't see my phone. Nothing shows up under any of the usual COMs
PLEASE HELP! WHAT SHOULD I DO?! D':

If you're running anything Gingerbread, you need to download and install the Nexus S Drivers to get your pc to recognize your phone in dl mode.
Didn't work. Could you link me to the the drivers?
I got mine from androiddrivers.net/samsung-android-drivers/download-nexus-s-drivers/
I GOT IT!
Upon taking a closer look at things.... literally. I found a very small piece of what appeared to be pocket lint lodged in my phone's port. Pulled it out and immediately regained functionality! SO, words of wisdom from hours of frustration "Look in the hole"

Those are probably the right ones, however I got mine directly from the drivers folder in thr Android sdk gingerbread update. Are you getting an error when you try to install the drivers you downloaded?
Sent from my ZenDroid, meditating on the XDA App

Thanks for the help though!
Just download the drivers. click usb debugging. it should pop up.

dRIVERS WILL NOT STICK TO PC

Ok, this is getting annoying.
Every time I plug my phone to pc, I get "device ID was not found" message. It was like this from the very beginning.
Should I reinstall Samsung drivers, I can log into phone. But if I turn pc on and off - those drivers are forgotten, and phone is not recognized again.
I tried Kies, they do not recognize phone also.
When I reinstall drivers (from Samsung) message says I already have them installed. But the only way phone will connect is when I reinstall drivers again.
Any suggestions?
Just unplugged and replugged it again - logs in fine. But, like I said - turn pc off - those drivers are forgotten...

[Help] PC unable to connect to Honor 9

Hi,
After the most recent update (OTA), when I connect my phone to my PC, regardless of what mode I have the USB set for on the phone, I can no longer connect
to my phone.
It worked flawlessly before.
The Huawei HiSuite also cannot connect (although I don't norm ally use that anyway).
I have tried reinstalling ADB and also HiSuite to no avail.
One thing I do notice is that there was a HDB driver missing. When I rebooted my PC it has now changed to 'USB Composite device' but shows the error
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
{Bad Image}
%hs is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0x
I've tried to automatically install a driver, again no joy. (Because the device is not recognised, it just says it could not a find a suitable driver).
If I uninstall the device and then plug my phone back in we then start with the HDB device (for which there is no driver according to MS), which upon reboot becomes the 'USB Composite device' again.
So, anyone know how I can fix this? I'd like access to my phone through my PC if possible.
TIA (Thanks in Advance)
I know it's obvious, but have you tried a different usb port.

Yes. Front and back of PC as well through a hub.
It makes a sound like it connects, then I get a popup on my phone "Charge only / Transfer files / Transfer photos" and regardless of which one I select, it then disconnects.
Somewhat annoying. It worked okay before latest update.
I've even reinstalled ADB, even though I'm fairly certain this has nothing to do with it.
Thanks for your reply anyway!
[Solved]
I managed to solve this by plugging in my Honor 9. On the device manager page in Windows take a look at the 'USB Composite Device' item and selecting with an exclamation mark against it and right click it and select"Uninstall device" from the menu. When it asks to remove the driver, select yes. Unplug your phone. Reboot your PC. Upon plugging your phone back in, your device will be re-detected and Windows will install the driver correctly.
