[REF] ROMs, Utilities, Tutorials, Mods (Updated 3-5-2013) - Motorola Droid X2

I noticed that our current ref threads are terribly out of date, so I decided to create an updated one. I plan to keep updating this, so it should probably be stickied.

Note: I have omitted Froyo ROMs from this list, as they are significantly antiquated.

Long over due!! Thanks for the work!
Slim!

I'll sticky this thread as it's the most up-to-date of the lot. For now, I'll leave the other threads stuck as well as between them they cover info that isn't in all of them.
Good work ultravioletnanokitty.

<removed because I obviously figured it out>

I'd like to 'clean house' before my next ROM flash and I wonder what's the best way to rid my int and ext sd's of un-necessary crapola. I've copied contents to my pc so I have all my pix, Tibu bkups, clockwork bkups, and items that I need. So can I just delete everything I see on the sd cards now through my PC? or are there files that I need to leave in place for the ROM to flash successfully? I guess what I'm worried about are Root utility apps and files like: Superuser, Busybox, etc. can I just delete all and those neccessary files are safely stored in the hidden system files? I know i can use Google backup for contacts, calender events, etc..
I'd Love to see a guide on "preparing your byte zones for a happy Flash party!" with suggestions and instructions on how to clean out the detritus of uninstalled apps and leftovers from previoius ROMs.

What's a good 2.3.4 Rom?

Whats a good 2.3.4 rom that has somewhat good battery life, One that is very fast gets good linepack/Quadrant scores, And lastly a rom in 2.3.4 that is stable.
If anyone could point me towards a Rom like this it would be very much appreciated.
I wouldn't use a 2.3.4 ROM yet, not all the kernels are compatible with it. It could bork WiFi, camera, etc., since the kernel source for 2.3.4 hasn't been released by HTC yet. Also, there isn't much of a difference if you're just gonna be running a custom ROM on it.
Alright thanks for the tip so right now I'm on the stock 2.3.4 rooted ROM I can just convert back to a 2.3.3 ROM without any issues if I'm correct?

I'm using Synergy lastest build, just use subversion and keep up w/ every change and add your own stuff to the apps and take out those you don't want.
Plus the new wifi tether beta5 works so got all my functionality back.

[Q] Updating to Stock 2.3.4

Hi,
I'm currently on GingerBlur v4.5 right now and kind of want to update to 2.3.4 (some little things in GingerBlur just don't seem to work very well -- phone doesn't vibrate when I receive text messages, for example).
I'm aware that I need to go back to stock and then do the OTA update, but would doing so stop me from being able to root/theme? I'm excited for CM7 to be released, but kinks are still being worked out and I don't want to install anything that isn't at least in the "beta" stage, which I assume to be relatively stable.
Would reflashing (?) GingerBlur fix some of the issues I have or should I update to 2.3.4?
Also, is there any way to 'theme' Motoblur? I know of ADWLauncher and things like that, but I'd like everything else to look as close to vanilla Gingerbread as possible as well.. many thanks
When you say stock do you mean AOSP or Blurred 2.3.4? CM7 is the only thing sporting 2.3.5 that I'm aware of.
The latest stock version from Motorola is 2.3.4.
Sorry guys, meant to say 2.3.4 -- I've edited the post/title accordingly.

[Q] Can't get ROM to install

I've rooted a couple phones and used a few ROMS. I'm having trouble with my DX2 installing Eclipse barebones. It gets hung up with installing the .zip in recovery with trying to install and it wont install. I eventually pull battery and restart. I'm currently running 2.3.4 that I spf'ed and rooted installed CWM and bootstrap. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I would highly recommend the real eclipse versions. If you are wanting to stay on 2.3.4 eclipse 1.3 version from nitro is very stable. If you want to go to 2.3.5 version 2.03 is also very good and stable. No issues on Nitro's version. Also you can get the most current updates on eclipserom.com
The version Ace is playing with barebones is not really a rom it is a nanodroid of his own doing on top of Nitro's eclipse rom.

Dead links to old ROMs,or alternative ROMs suggestions

Hi!
I have recently bought a second hand Vibrant.
Seller had MIUI on it, which I didn't like, for a few reasons.
One was non working GPS.
So, I installed latest stable CM 7 , which I like, BUT, GPS doesn't
work with it too. As I understood, that is common problem with 2.3.3
based ROM and Vibrant.
So I started looking for 2.2 based ROM and faced the problem, that
most links for these are currently dead.
I have succeeded to download Toxic Crazy8 and few versions of bionic,
but my recovery (version 5.0.x.x) refuses to flash them, as they are
in "old format" .
So, long story short, I am still looking for a ROM that will make me happy,
and thus need your help .
My requirements are :
Deodexed ROM, so I can apply the RTL fix on it ( or with built in RTL support).
Working GPS
Good battery life
Not too slow
As new as possible ( may be 2.3.x if all the above apply)
Should include FFC mod support
with working download link .
So, your help, suggestions and advices (and download links) are welcome!
Thank you in advance!
First and for most I suggest the ICS Passion V11 rom ....but if you want to go back to the extremely stable roms among us you will have to flash an older clockwork something that can be done in clockwork mod. Many people suggest Project V it was a great rom, but most would say that you can't go wrong with the bionix roms. Again though ICS Passion V11 (4.0.3 based) is definitely a modern winner though.

ICS PASSION.
Stable fast GPS works and its 4.0.3

If you want the newest, latest and greatest, the two posters above me nailed it. Passion is awesome and fairly stable.
But if you are wanting a 2.2 ROM, fisherman (I think that's his name) is updating Bionix and should have updated links.
ICS Passion
Thanks for all the replies!
Let's say that you've convinced me, and I am going to try the ICS Passion.
Few more questions regarding it though.
As I am totally not familiar with ICS, does it have RTL support?
I recall I have read somewhere it does , out of the box...
Does ICS Passion have support for FFC mod, or , specifically, will
I be able to have video chats on Skype or it's alternatives?
Thank you in advance!
Mulder check your PM box.
If you don't end up liking the ICS, there are these 2.2's that are solid builds and you can flash them with the CWR version in my signature.
Toxic8 (which you tried but with the linked recovery it should work-did for me)
Deranged9
Bionix
Bionix-Fishman redux
Trigger
Bi-winning
2.3's have battery and memory issues, so buyer beware.
Oh, and how good is ICS in terms of battery life?
I get 2 days out of her...

Debloated stock 2.3.4 rom?

I am new to this phone as it was my best option at the time to use on page plus. I need a stable phone so I don't care about ICS or JB. Is there a heavily debloated stock 2.3.4 rom available for this phone? I cannot find what I am looking for on here.
The best Gingerbread ROMs this phone has is CM7 and Eclipse. Although Eclipse is based on 2.3.5 and you will have to update to that version first. Both ROMs are pretty stable.
