Jelly Bean - HTC EVO 3D

Even though we're still in the midst of the ice cream sandwich fiasco, is it plausible that we'll see Jelly Bean on the 3d since it isn't a major overhaul?

The worlds gonna end before we see either

Idk if there is anything definitive yet other than it will be Android version 4.1. So probably performance and bug fixes with minor new features.

Fat chance in hell we're receiving a Jellybean OTA. The OG Evo got 1 major lifetime upgrade to GB. So we can expect the same for our 3D's as well.
The differences so far from 4.0.4 (ICS) and 4.1 (Jellybean) are Chrome is now the default browser, and a more sophisticated search widget. That's only what I've seen, there are probably 100's more.

Most likely. And I'm sure a few UI changes. They completely revamped androids UI with 4.0 so I'm sure some tweaking is sure to follow.
And a nice slue of performance increases the likes of which 2.2 brought would be nice one can hope.
What would also be nice is if it consumed less battery. All the new graphics drain more than people tend to know
Also, since the VM evo 3d is launching with ics, with jelly bean just around the corner will it receive the update?

I'm hoping jelly bean brings group messaging. Since no app can achieve it, native functionality would be nice.

It's been confirmed with Sprint. They don't sell candy to users.
But seriously, I remember HTC agreeing with some update alliance a long time ago. They agreed to keep all devices updated for 18 months. considering it's been 12 months and Jellybean is coming out soon, we should get the update but I don't know if HTC will folllow through.
Even if they don't, CM9 by then will hopefully have WiMax and 3D so it's just a matter of CM9 getting updated to CM10.

I agree though - when I switched from GB Sense 2.1/3.0 to ICS AOSP the group messaging hit me
the work around was to compose a message with all the recipients and then you have the 'group message' set up and can send to all at once.

Assuming the driver model doesn't change that much (and that we ever get stable ICS drivers), we'll get it from one of the AOSP projects eventually. I highly doubt we'll see an "official" JB release.

hmmm when was our phone released? lol. 18 months.... hmmmm I vote that we sue sprint then HTC if it isn't released to us. If they develop a product, SOMEONE BETTER INSURE THEY SUPPORT that product! Cheaper to finish supporting the phone than it will be if I sue them for 120 Million each. You know that HTC and sprint both read these forums. I wouldn't be surprised if they have someone that is paid just to read these and keep them informed of what we want and say.

haha, jellybean on the 3D.... HIGHLY unlikely.

The Evo 4G will never and was never planned to receive ICS, and yet there are completely functioning ICS builds available for it, with working camera on top of everything else besides the obvious 4G (and maybe a few other things, I haven't followed OG Evo development since I upgraded to this phone).
Official releases aren't a huge deal unless we need them to fix something. The problem with ICS on our phones have to do with the difference between it and GB, as well as our camera. I do not foresee JB to be a big difference from ICS, kind of like Froyo to GB.
So in the end an official release won't matter as long as JB isn't a huge difference over ICS, and we can use the official ICS release in order to make sure the camera works.
You're going to be able to run JB on this phone, do not worry.

I know the phones hardware is more than capable of handling JB. And I'd agree with everything you said, but our phone has some unique needs that others don't. Like you mentioned, the 3d/camera is one of them and also Wimax. ICS has been around for quite a while and there isn't a single ICS build for our phone that is a nice stable daily driver. Getting some of our phone's features to work without the help of HTC may be a bit tough. The development scene of the Evo 3D isn't huge either, though thankfully we have many great devs.
I came to the Evo 3d from the HTC HD2, now that's a phone that seems to be able to run just about anything. Ridiculously massive development scene. It had ICS running long before many other phones and it isn't even an android phone.

Custom Jelly Bean Roms For Rezound?

So I've been looking around and from what I can tell, the jelly bean situation for the rezound is looking pretty bleak considering the fact that it hasn't even received ics yet. That doesn't phase me though because I figured I could just install a custom rom and get it now; however, it seems thats not the case because for some reason no one seems confident that a custom jelly bean rom for the rezound is possible. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there already custom jb roms for other phones? So I was just wondering if anyone could explain to me why a custom jb rom for the rezound is not possible? And if it is why hasn't anyone made one?

K.. my answer for OP: I can almost certainly promise u that by mid next 2013 we should see jelly bean for Rezound. Reason I say that is because as of recently the RIL (which is what allows the phone to receive 4G LTE) has finally been cracked/resolved. And the official OTA ICS is soon for us. Also ICS-Jelly Bean is not that huge of an update, it is most likely we will be receiving that as well.

cant be that broken.........its cm9 which has basically all the base code for msm8660 devices.....the kernel is the only thing that might not be ready due to being a 2.6.35 kernel and not 3.0 but 2.6.35 works fine for the most part

Are you serious? Stuck?
Considering that only 0.8% (not event one percent) of Android handsets globally have JB, Rezound owners will now be in the category second only to those with GB on their handsets. Enjoy ICS for now and you know very well that the amazing devs here will generate a JB ROM for the Rezound as soon as they have the "raw materials" to do so.

Yes i am very much serious that I'm stuck. Don't get me wrong, i like ics a lot, but I find it annoying that Google releases New versions of android and i don't get to use them until months later. HTC tends to update Sense when it updates the Android version.
For example, I'm quite sure that the Evo Shift went from Sense 1 to Sense 2.1 when it got updated to Gingerbread, and the Evo 3D got updated from Sense 3.0 to Sense 3.6 when it updated to ICS.
It'll probably be much the same as Sense 4.0/4.1 but it'll have more JB features.
Since this is a jb thread I think sprint is doing a better job w updates. Reason I'm lead to believe this is I just got the update for jb on my gn meanwhile the vzw doesn't have anything official. So as long as sprint does a good job with approving it i think we will see jb by November as long as htc doesn't drag ass. It took 29 days from the one x getting updated to 4.0.4 to us getting it which is a rather quick turn around Imo.

This ARTICLE has a nice little tidbit of information in it:
Sprint has finally started rolling out Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S 4G. The update starts this evening and will be available to all handsets over the next few weeks.
For those new readers that don’t quite remember the Galaxy Nexus, the device features a 4.65-inch 720p display, a 5-megapixel camera, and Android 4.0 ICS. The Nexus S, on the other hand, is Google's 2010 Android flagship and also runs Android 4.0.
The upgrade, which is standard over-the-air, includes a great deal of improvements with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. These include enhancements to the keyboard, a buttery-smooth UI, and more advanced notifications. The update also includes Google Now, Google's answer to Siri.
Sprint also says that it plans to upgrade various other devices to Jelly Bean. including the HTC EVO 4G LTE and Samsung Galaxy S3. We should be hearing more about those updates soon.
Per usual, there will be manual update options available if you don't feel like waiting for the OTA, and you can find the download link and instructions on Know Your Cell as soon as it's posted.
If you're not one for manual updates, Sprint usually rolls these out in phases, so you shouldn't have to way too long. They usualy arrive within a few weeks.
Are you excited about Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean on your Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S 4G?

I don't care if HBoot 1.15 isn't cracked before it's released, I'll still take that update.
So I attempted to port a sense 4.5 ROM based on 4.0.4, not 4.1.1 and it's stuck at the bootanimation and I cant get logcat going to fix anything
Really want to see the changes from 4.1 to 4.5.
For those wondering about the jump from 4.1 to 4.5 this is standard programming practice. This shows there were 4 minor revisions between the two. Those can be anything from adding or removing base apps to fixes or features added in. It is up to the developer to make decisions of what makes for a major upgrade.

That's unfortunate too cause this is a very nice and quick device, the processor is just as fast as a s4 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz

Clock speed isn't everything...what a processor is able to per CPU cycle is the real gold, and the S4 is way, way, way better at utilizing the CPU cycles than our processor. it can do more per cycle, it has better predictive branching, better cache performance...the works.
We can all agree that our processor isn't slow.
It just isn't as fast.

actually he was commenting about the VZW Gnex which did receive 4.2.2 official from verizon. but they have been on the network for a quite a bit longer.

This is correct, I don't appreciate the sarcasm guys. The DNA is much more powerful than the Gnex and it has been out since November and so has 4.2.
4.2 mostly added changes for tablets, there really wasn't much changed for phones over 4.1 besides adding that new photosphere. That's mainly the reason why Google didn't bother to give it a new code name. I doubt it's worth the effort to upgrade.
I think everyone needs to remember what goes into these things. Clearly none of you have worked in an IT department before. Google releases a new version. HTC will get it, and then begins customizing it for their devices. They have to adjust the firmware, rebuild sense... it's not small development work. Then it goes into QA for a while to make sure it's up to par. Then it's released to Verzion and goes into their QA. Problems that arise during these phases are corrected and retested. Finally after it's all signed off, it's scheduled for release. That process can and does take months. It's the significant drawback for the android platform. Apple on the other hand would have been done with their initial release. Google Nexus phones get all the upgrades because Google tests everything for them before they release the new version.

Yes but the change from 4.1 to 4.2.isn't that drastic that it would take this long to release it considering it came out when the DNA did.

I want the new version mainly for the lock screen changes.

It is extremely unrealistic to expect a heavily skinned HTC device to get updates at the same speed as a device running just stock vanilla Android.
The Sense overlay is massive, and requires a lot of tuning and customization in order to function properly. Throw a new version of Android at HTC, and they have to spend a lot of time to make 'Sense' of things, if you take my meaning. The first thing they have to figure out is whether or not the update will even improve the user experience. What if there's no benefit to the end user because the update was mainly for tablets (as the previous poster said). Or, is it worth the cost of re-tooling Sense for an extremely minor update?
All this hating on HTC over updates on fairly new phones is really unfair.
Now the Rezound ICS update debacle was unforgivable, but this device hasn't even been out 6 months, and they've already put out an OTA with new radios. Dude, that's freaking awesome support!
So instead of all the negativity, how about congratulating HTC on lessons learned from the Rezound delays, and enjoying what you've got?

You are right but the new android isn't that different aside from the lock screen. I am not hating on HTC it's more than likely Verizon.

Man idk why you even started this topic? Have you been on Android or VZW for any length of time whatsoever? This shouldn't be a surprise. I mean we will probably see AOSP 4.2 from one of the devs long before we see 4.2 or even sense 5(which we already have) from VZW. Updates for phones that aren't a Nexus always take a long time and VZW is notorious for making that wait even longer.
ViperDNA
Woah woah woah... Sense is NOT skinned / heavily modded its a completely built up OS based on Aosp/Linux kernel
Two totally different things
