im looking for a seamless quality aftermarket solution for BT stereo input to my radio.
ive got a pre-2005 ford lincoln, and i would like to just enter my car, my phone auto detect, connect, and be used as my wireless mp3 player.
right now i have an aux adapter+headphone cable to connect direct to the phone, but im tired of that. I wanna go wireless.
Any suggestions? i'd either install myself or get a local audio shop to do it for me.

Sprint sells the HTC Car StereoClit(AUX) which should do what you are asking I think. It plugs into the aux connector and has a USB port for power. I just picked one up today after search all over the web for something like it with no luck. Was $60. I did find it online at several places but they were all the same $60.

The Samsung HS3000 in my opinion is better (has more features) and is only ~$30.

I bought a Parrot MKi9200 a couple months ago and have never been happier. Along with the bluetooth music capability, it adds the hands-free phone capability as well as giving you multiple options for hardline connectivity (for friends equipment)
i'm also using a Samsung HS3000, everything hardwired behind the dash and battery disconnected for power on/off with the cigarette lighter's supply. Wired a second 2 port cigarette lighter to the hot wire of the factory cig, then grounded nearby on its own ground to avoid any ground loop issues. Ran both wires to my glove compartment and velcro'ed the unit to the ceiling.
I haven't tried the mic as my headunit has BT phone profile but no A2DP, upgraded from a parrot MKi9100 as i found with my OG Evo trying to do flac over BT it loses considerable quality over a wired solution. If you want both phone and music capability the parrot line might work but the Apt-X on the HS3000 or the stereoclip is superb. I thinks someone mentioned that with the stereoclip it does not pass audio to the headunit when calls come in and instead takes the call over the phone's speakerphone. The HS3000 does however have a mic and will take the call over the headunit and using it's internal mic.
I am was in your situation as well but I couldn't find a hard wired car kit that had apt-x codec built in, plus none could touch the hs3000 on price. I just opened the back of my hs3000 and disconnected the battery then went onto my Bluetooth settings and clicked on the hs3000 and unchecked use for headset so it only connects for audio.

I was also looking to go this route. My Prius has a 12V socket and an AUX jack inside the center console so I wanted some sort of bluetooth receiver that was not battery powered. The 12V socket in the car is only active when the car is on so the bluetooth receiver would automatically power on when the car is and allow the phone to sync. Such a device just doesn't seem to exist and I've given up the search.
I just stopped by the Sprint store today and picked up the Sprint EVO LTE car dock and the HTC car stereo clip and got 20% off so total for the two was about $75 before tax. The instructions said it needed to be charged for two hours out of the box so i connected the car dock and the HTC stereo clip both into my dual USB port 12V adapter. I did get some ground loop feedback from the HTC stereo clip being plugged in but when the music was playing it sounded great. Definitely not as much ground loop noise as playing over the 3.5mm audio cable from the phone while plugged in and charging.
I'm going to order the ProClip center mount for my car and get a ball mount adapter for it to use with the car dock because the slope of the windshield puts the phone out of reach. Hopefully with the ProClip center mount the phone might get some air from the vent to cool it down too, I've never felt it as hot as it was in the car dock!

I have the same issue with the phone in the window getting hot. Wish I had gotten the white version.
You may not want to spend the money, but honestly its well worth buying an after market head unit with built in bluetooth. Picked up my wife's bt equipped pioneer from Walmart for $145. Great investment.

That is not always an option these days. With all the "intelligence" in some cars, they put it in the radio. My 2006 Impala put all the controls in the radio so you can't just replace it. And if you have the aux port already, a unit like the HTC stereo clip is cheaper and easier to install.

I've yet to come across a vehicle its impossible to replace one in that's not brand new. It can be a little difficult, but there's always a way. Stereo clip is definitely probably cheaper and easier, but not the best solution IMO.

I just got an Alpine 135bt head unit. It has built in bluetooth and a wired mic. It's worked really well with the EVO thus far. Easy to install as well.

I own a 2010 Impala LT (no BOSE) (so I have virtually the same body style and features as the 2006) and I installed a Kenwood KDC-BT852HD and a Metra GMOS-100 all-in-one interface. With this set up, my phone connects over blue tooth for audio and talking on two different channels so that I can take calls on the deck even if I'm listening to the regular radio. It also has a broken as hell pandora function.
Not only that, but the interface kit allows for all the stock bells and whistles to continue to work. My door Chimes, remote start, blinker, and steering wheel controls all work just fine.

I just did a quick look up of these two items and found them on Amazon. The radio was $163 and the adapter was $229! So you are suggesting spending almost $400 and modifying your car when you can accomplish the same thing for $60 without making any modifications? The OP only wanted to use his phone as an MP3 player. While replace the factory radio can be done, I was just trying to point out it was not as simple as the other solutions presented.

Obviously, you don't need to spend that much on a deck - I just wanted a really nice deck and I had some specific requirements.
As far as I'm concerned, having stock track and volume control at my fingertips on the steering wheel while listening to pandora over blue tooth is totally worth it.

Is there any way of having a transmitter in the 3.5mm jack and then the receiver on the headphone cable around your neck?
I spent around £60 on the HTC Bluetooth Headphones for my old HTC TyTTN2 and only used them twice because they drained the battery so bloody fast!
I have my headphones in while on my bike and find it really annoying with the cable dangling from my trouser/pants pocket.
Would be nice to just put the phone in my bag with no cables attached to me apart from the two ear buds and maybe a small receiver?!?
Any suggestions?

You realise that cycling with headphones is one of THE most dangerous things you can do when riding a bike? Unless you're off-road then it doesn't matter so much!

Bike or bicycle
There are FM transmitters that connect to a 3.5 mm jack. They transmit the audio signal via a certain FM frequency which you can pick up with a radio. So if you have a small FM receiver or anything, it could pick up the 'radio signal' transmitted by the HD.

and i tried several ones, including itrip and i dont recommend you this. because you will drain batteries in the transmiter and the receiver, you will have problems w wires anyway because they are still messy, and you will have problems with frequency. Once you get into a populated area or anything similar you will not be able to listen anything. Other frequencies will interfere.
I went from that into bluetooth, either headphones or car adapters are much better. If you want it for a bike you can look for helmets with on board headphones, its batteries will be better, i guess.
And I had installed in my bike a 12V power adaptor for these cases. so i can use the pda gps on board.

Another option, though it's potentially fairly pricey, would be a pair of headphones using the proprietary 'Kleer' wireless system.
The only pair I know of specifically that support it are the Sleek Audio SA6 IEMs.

There's probably a list of other headphones using the same technology on Kleer's own website.

if you have an auxiliary conx on your radio you can just connect it with a 3.5 cable.

OK I started out with a Venturi Mini which worked fine for a while, then physically broke after only a few months. I managed to repair it with a bit of soldering, and it now works intermittently.
I therefore (on recommendation from XDA) bought an obscure bluetooth transmitter from ebay. This is much more substantial and robust - and gives a very strong signal. This has worked perfectly, the only problem is it's size and having to use an extension lead and find a way to stick it out of the way in the car so it doesn't get in the way of changing gear! (Depends where your cigarette lighter socket is..)
I therefore fancied the combined cradle / FM transmitter instead from here My initial reaction was it was cheap rubbish - the socket was loose so although it would transmit a signal, as soon as you move the car it loses the connection to the TP2, making it useless. However, I then used a pair of pliers to tighten the socket in the cradle, and it worked well for nearly 2 weeks - including charging the phone while driving. I was getting to be quite happy with it, until today it just stopped transmitting a signal. I've opened it up but can't find any obvious loose connections, so it's now trash - proving my initial view.
I am now wondering about the FM talk transmitter. Has anyone tried it?
I have use the FM talk transmitter found on Ebay since July. It works great.
Only problem is that it doesnt charge the phone when the mini-usb car charger is plugged to the transmitter. It only powers the transmitter.

I would recommend the bulkier transmitter - in fact I'm back to using it now and it works without a problem. It even comes with 2 remote controls - 1 handheld, 1 which attaches to the steering wheel, although these don't work on the recent NRG ROMs to fwd & rwd through tracks (which is a shame).
Apart from the size, I find having to turn on Bluetooth and connect each time I get in the car a bit of a pain (as opposed to just plugging the phone in), but if you're used to that it won't be an issue.
I've ordered the FM Talk transmitter now anyway.
As regards Import tax, I have ordered numerous items from China, Thailand etc. and only once had to pay duty. Generally the retailers have wised up and write 'GIFT' on the label, which exempts the item from duty.

Thanks, the remotes would come in handy as the kids use my phone to watch films in the back..gotta love that TP2 screen!! I rekon i'll add it to my christmas list!!
BTW i'm using Miri's 2.5 ROM which does support the fwd/back on my BT headphones!
I use my Motorola T505 for bluetooth/listening to music, mostly Pandora. A little pricey, but I'm not a headphone type of guy and it's technically illegal in California to not use some type of hands-free set.
What kind of car do you have? I'm going to give this a try. It should also charge the phone. It looks like it will display track info in my BMW but not in my VW.

As Die Bruine said a unit with bluetooth is great! However I couldn't afford the bluetooth adapter for my head-unit. So I have a stereo with a USB reader, after I connect my Tilt 2 I just tell it to go into mass storage mode!

I do this too, and I accidentally discovered that you can still use the mic from the speakerphone when it's connected (via 3.5mm jack on the Sprint TP2), so I prop my TP2 on the steering column when I talk in my car (luckily, it cradles perfectly and the rubbery paint keeps it from slipping during turns). I'm told that they hear an echo when they talk, but my voice sounds better than any headphone or BT Headset I've used, and the voice quality over the speakers is really good.
well i bought the fm talk been using it for 3 days now and i love it. its easy to use its self explanitory just plug it in and go. makes the music sound louder on my cars speaker the only thing is that it doesnt charge your phone while in use but its not a problem for my i have temporaly flashed back to stock rom because its the only rom that has a long battery life well from my experience .....

Just wanted to warn people there are two versions of this. The BTAXS and BTAXM. On Ebay you'll see both and the M is cheaper, but that one only does bluetooth calling no a2dp stereo. So you want to buy the BTAXS.

I have one from belkin (about 35$ and music only ) it works very well it used to be ok quality on my e4g unless running cm7 ... Now with a stock 3d it sounds better than either e4g set up.

Their English is pretty bad but from the part of the description I can make out it sounds like a A2DP receiver, so it should work.
Just so you know, amazon has this a bit cheaper. I think amazon can be trusted more than ebay imho.

can confirm the SCOSCHE BTAXS motorMOUTH II Stereo Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kits is great for music streaming had it for a yr now used with both evo and evo 3d and works great.... for handsfree calling isn't that great but i haven't taken the time to relocate the mic closer so cant give u the most accurate review there

Quick update, I received my Scosche motorMOUTH II Stereo from the ebay I linked. I received it the day after I placed the order. It works great, sounds great. People can tell I'm on speakerphone but they understand me fine. The only con is that you can't charge it while using it. it usually prevents you, but I was able to get it to charge while running, the problem is that you will get the weird feedback sound from the car lighter through aux cable.... Not sure how to explain it.

That's a ground loop. Google ground loop isolator or ground loop filter.
The one I have looks exactly like the PAC SNI-1/3.5 or the PGLI35 (just google those terms) and it works very well - don't pay over $15, I think I paid less than $10 three years ago. It looks like the Kensington Noise Reducing Car Audio AUX Cable has it built-in if you need something longer.
I got this one for $32 at tmobile store with the 50% off coupon. Its a headset that comes with an adaptor to plug a 3.5mm audio jack and a stereo headset.

Yes. Under each bluetooth device you pair to on your phone you can select whether it's used for music, calls, or both; and you can pair with two devices simultaneously. I do this successfully all the time with my Kensington Liquid Aux (for music in the car, does calls too but the mic is crappy) and a cheap BT headset from LG.
It's a shame that Kensington unit is hard to find now, the remote it comes is SUPER handy and it's something I haven't seen included with any other BT bridge. I attached the remote to my Civic's steering wheel and it literally looks stock.
Another good bridge for music only is the BluBridge mini-jack Rx, battery lasts a long time and you can power it with any USB car charger, really good range too. I got one last year and liked it so much I got a second during Christmas to give away as a gift. I use it at home or during small get-togethers so I can stream to any stereo or set of portable speakers.

And it works well. It's expensive....and it doesn't plug into your Audi port.....and the Mic isn't built in ....the Mic comes with it, you have to plug it in and clip it on to your shirt. The satechi device works real well though.

In short, at half the price of the HTC Stereo Clip, I don't see why you would buy anything else. (A simple male to male adapter and it'll plug into your head unit just the same.)
Audio Quality: It's great! The new APT-X codec(?) is awesome. It would take a double blind hearing test for me to tell the difference between the Samsung and a wire. Can you tell? Maybe, but requiring a double blind test is good enough for me in my car.
Note: I have the bluetooth feeding directly into an amplifier that feeds my speakers. I no longer have a headunit.
For me, there are so many benefits of this unit vs the Stereo Clip.
Less than half the cost ! ($30 vs $70 for HTC Clip)
I can plug ANY set of headphones into the bluetooth and have "wireless" headphones
Has a built in mic, so I can answer calls with it in the car or out
Great battery life
Comes with a nice pair of short corded ear buds that have decent sound isolation as well
A minor gripe: If you look at the photos, the buttons are really small with no tactile differentiation. I always have to look at it to figure out what side I'm going push. It would have been so easy to make one side have some tactile difference.

I'm looking for an a2dp adapter to do a fixed install inside my car. Can I leave this hooked up to a usb power source constantly and hide the reciever in my armrest? Also is there any problem using these for a2dp only and using my car's built in hands free?

I would be interested to know if it would automatically power on or stay on for a fix car install. If you just want a2dp fixed install, check out the isimple isfm21. It does hard wired fm modulation or rca line out and has an Android app to change fm frequency.

I have mine hooked up in a sort of fixed install. I have a USB and 3.5 mm cord running through my dash up to my sun visor where the Adapter sits, I was also going to do a totally fixed hidden install, but that would have hidden the built-in mic negating the hands free calling functionality. As long as your armrest isn't surrounded in metal (blocking the bluetooth signal), you should be fine. I briefly had it in my center console to test and it worked fine, then I realized, hey I won't be able to use the mic if I do that.
My USB is hooked up to a secondary cigarette socket I installed that is only live when the ignition is on. You definitely could leave it hooked up to a constant power source, but I don't know what that would do to the battery over time (the bluetooth battery and your car battery). I've decided to play it safe and not kill the battery. Having said that, if it's permanent, it shouldn't be an issue even if the bluetooth battery stops taking a charge. I've seen laptops that have dead batteries, but ppl are able to still use them plugged in.
It doesn't turn on and off automatically, so here it may be different from the StereoClip (I don't have a StereoClip so I don't know). It does work while hooked up to power so you could leave it on all the time as mentioned above. I turn mine off although I did forget one time and left it on, no biggie since it's connected to power. I'm going to set up a tasker profile to remind me to turn it off.

I don't know. I do know that it supports a2dp, and it supports two simultaneous bluetooth connections if the devices support it to play music, but I'm not sure how that works with calls and whether or not it would try to play the music through your car's hands free system and whatever you have plugged.
I've never had a car built in hands free system so I don't know how that works. There's a small section in the manual about simultaneous bluetooth connections if you want to try and find the manual online.

Sweet man.. I just bought one based on your review. Do you think you can take a picture of your setup?
I purchased one too, along with a whole host of cables to do a permanent hidden installation.
My only fear is leaving it on all of the time, only charging when I am in the vehicle. Hopefully it has a "standby" mode to conserve power when the power switch is on but nothing is connected.
OP, I won't get mine until Tuesday, is there anyway you can test a permanent always-on installation like I'm talking about by seeing how yours does leaving the power switch on for a day or so?
The tech specs list a 130hour standby battery life. Should be more then enough when the car is not moving. my delema is that I cant find any decent Y adapters to split my one usb socket in my car into 2, But that is another story.

Not really, I use it all the time in and out of the car everyday so I'm always charging it to make sure it's topped off. Sorry man.

Right, but does standby mean power switch is off, or power switch is on but nothing connected?
I just bought this little guy to do the splitting and will install it behind my dash where I already have the wires to my dock run.

My concern with that is it'll only charge your phone in USB mode which isn't enough when using navigation with the screen on.
I ended up getting a dual USB adapter that charged in AC mode and running two usb cords.

If you have the car dock, it forces AC mode, as long as your charger has enough current (at least 1A).
My charger is 2.1A, the bluetooth will probably pull 500mA and the phone will pull 1A, so in my case (with the dock) the hub should work fine, and will look a lot cleaner with only one cord running from my cigarette lighter to behind my dash.
But to each their own. I'll take pics of my setup on Tuesday.

I haven't made it pretty yet. I usually run my stuff for several weeks before I shore up all the wires and hide everything behind the dash properly and make a custom plate to cover up the head unit opening and paint the L Bracket I used black.

You know what, at first I was like NUH UH! And then I remembered, the first dock I got didn't do that AND it eventually stopped working (charging) and I had to exchange it for another one. So it was probably faulty. Good to know. Thanks for the heads up.
What's the range on this device? Sometimes I don't have good signal in the office so I have to leave it by a window. Usually no more than 20-30 feet away. Wanted to know cause I like to stream Pandora usually all day while I walk around the office.

I've found that the Bluetooth signal is very dependant on a variety of factors. You'll likely be on the edge of its range though.
For example, in my house I've been 20ish feet away and it works fine, but if go in a certain corner with a bunch of appliances it gets crackly.
I've also parked directly in front of a strip mall store and gone inside easily 30 feet with no issues.

I'm glad to have found this seeing as how the HTC stereoclip does NOT route your phone calls, when a phone call comes in it mites the music and it will use the speaker on the phone nut your car speakers. It only routs music. Which seems incredibly dumb to me. But I suppose HTC has to sell you another blue tooth device to take phone calls.

Probably because they couldn't be bothered to also lower the phone stream's volume and if they had a mic on the device it would just pick up the other person's voice from the car speakers and it would be a whole bucket of echoes without active noise cancellation.
I got mine, and I have to say it sounds fantastic. I have it in my "fixed" install. basically I have it plugged into a cigarette lighter that turns off with the car, and the audio is running under my console to the backside of my radio.
With the HTC car dock, my phone connects to my factory bluetooth handsfree for phone calls, and the Samsung for music, and standard audio, such as nav.
Only problem I have is it stays on when the power is off which means my phone stays connected when I go into my house.
I am considering cutting the battery wire on the inside to solve that issue.
Are there any new ways to play music off your Note 3 through your car speakers??
Or is the Bluetooth FM Transmitter still the way to go? Is there one anyone can recommend? I have the old fashioned Monster wired cable, but it only has 3 channel options, and we often can't find a clear channel when we travel.
I assume you don't have a line in port on your head unit.
If all you have is am/fm radio and a cd slot then an FM transmitter is the only thing you can do.
I hope to not hijack this but when I plug mine into my aux jack, it plays fine. But holy hell, when I plug the power into it, there is a good awful noise until the audio actually starts playing. Just having everything plugged in without paying anything is too loud to stand. I'd there any thing that can be fine to stop this?

Get an A2DP radio player and you are set to go.
i use bluetooth, but audio stream has a bit delay tho, tried watching a hockey game live to confirm that, note 2 has no problem dunno y

If you're driving a Toyota or lexus, you can get a plug and play adapter like I have on mine. It's a Bluetooth receiver, look for the bt-35toy on Amazon. And by plug and play I mean you have to plug it into the back of the in dash unit. I did it this way because I wanted to keep the look of the original in dash unit and get Bluetooth support.

I like that that one can search for the best available FM channel, but in general I find the FM transmitters to be a last resort.
I am in an area with lots of radio stations (Atlanta) and for the last 28 years I've had commutes of 40-55 miles, and family scattered widely. When I used these devices I never went over 20 minutes without having to stop listening and find a new frequency due to having so many radio stations in the area. I also have been in traffic and had horrible interference from other electronic devices, possibly radios in nearby vehicles.
If your factory radio doesn't have a Bluetooth receiver the next best choice IMHO is a cable or Bluetooth receiver plugged into an auxiliary input jack. Many factory radios don't have those of course, so you should find a forum for owners of your car and get suggestions about affordable ways to add one. You may find instructions for a DIY method to add one that doesn't cost $125 or more. If you have the money those expensive ones will sound good, but after buying a $700 phone, $20 to $45 case, $8 to $35 tempered glass screen protector, $10 Qi wireless receiver, $20 to $70 Qi charger, plus who knows what for a car mount... Well, most of us have some limit to our disposable income.

Seems like a massive ground-loop issue! Not too sure on solutions though.
A couple years ago, I installed a Pioneer head unit w/bluetooth in one of my cars. Nice being able to play music without wires. Also great for handling my calls as well

This. I don't listen to music very often, but for podcast commutes the functionality of this product is amazing. Still just an FM but done really well. 2003 Lincoln Town Car Cartier Edition, just so there is no comment about put in aftermarket. The wires.....oh the wires...and computers....that aren't really computers....and the wiring manual that is totally not a wiring manual...wtf...but the ride...oh the RIDE.... whatwhatwhat

Back in the day I used to have this problem often. It was always feedback from the alternator.
There were line adapters you could use that would soften the noise, but no solution ever really worked very well.
Since my current head unit doesn't have bluetooth built in, but does have a line-in, I got this:

And it works fairly well. I can now charge my phone, play music through the adapter and not have the horrible high pitched noise.
Only problem is you can't power the adapter and stream through it at the same time. Kinda silly, but oh well.
Oh, and I forgot to mention but that adapted can pair using NFC. I just powered it on, tapped my phone to it and it paired right up.
2014 Camry hybrid + Note 3
I've got a 2014 Camry hybrid and it uses Toyota's eTune software.
Music, pandora, navigation, google voice, keyboard taps, everything worked natively.
I can even use the multimedia controls on the steering wheel to pause/skip music.
Only minor issue is that sometimes it will not go to the next track if the screen is off.
My workaround for this was to dual screen pandora with maps to disable automatic sleep.

I have used the PARROT MKi9200 for about a year and it works great. It has a USB connection on it, so I ran a cable for charging.
I connect through a Fiio e-18 straight to a 1600w and 900w amp hooked to 4 5 1/4 pioneer components and 4 6x8 3 way pioneers and one 12 respectivly. It sounds nice and my only limitation is the bit rate on my music. If i can I usually buy dvd audio and rip it at 192/24 and that usually satisfies my ears

Check GROM audio stuff, the GROM-USB2P can take a bluetooth, AUX, or straight USB connection. With the USB connection, you can use a USB drive(thumb or 2.5") or plug your android phone in and stream any audio through the USB port.
Not all phones/tablets are compatible, but is software limitation only. I have a Nexus 7 connected to my factory car radio via USB.

It sounds good. I read one review that said it gets interference in cars, but I have had possibly two barely-noticable audio glitches in 6 months of using it.
I like the fact that it has no battery and relies on USB power to operate. When the car is switched off, the BTA 10 powers off, disconnecting from the phone which automatically stops playback. Prevously when I used an audio cable from the headphone jack to the car aux, playback continued when the car was switched off (soundlessly if I left it plugged in) - meaning occasionally I'd have podcasts deleted before I heard them if I didn't manually stop playback, thanks to "autodelete on complete" by BeyondPod.
