Need help with Wifi tether entitlement - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I am trying to figure out how to turn on the built in WIFI tether similar to my One X and older phones I had.
Using SQlite editor
Dialer Storage
2) telephony.db
3) carriers
4) 12 Entitlement 310410
you should change the value under "apn" from "broadband" to "pta"
This is how to enable it on the One X for example. Can anyone help out to figure this out? I know there are apps available to use, but I wanted to use the built in one.

I have also been trying to find this out. I tried the Droid Bionic/Razr way but couldn't find anything. :|

Just download "Tethering Widget" and it will enable the native mobile hotspot
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

Foxfi doesn't work yet as far as I know. And tethering widget won't help as it's just the equivalent of turning on the built in hotspot. To get the built in hotspot to work on these it requires changes to the framework because the Hotspot is built into it. Til someone figures it out ur best bet is to root and use WiFi tether for root users or drop a couple bucks and get klink or pdanet

what are my options for tethering internet to my computer?

I don't really want to root or do much technical stuff. But I would like to know the options and the pro's and con's of each.
I know there was a tether with out root on app. it worked but not that great.

i do not have unlimited. i have my own plan and its 6 gigs a month
i dont know what exactly i will end up using it for. possibilities are endless. today i was waiting for something and i had my laptop and phone and i could have done some work if i was tethered
wireless or wired will be fine. i have no preference really. whichever works best.
If you are on a share plan you should just be able to turn on the hotspot from options. Unlimited peeps need the root method to tether

MJ7 is shorter for I545VRUEMJ7, which is your Baseband Version/Build Number.

All Share Everything plans come with free tethering... even if it's 1 person. Just go to your hotspot app and you're pretty much done.

I have heard FoxFi works, rooted or not, but I don't really tether and since I'm on a share plan I can just use the built-in app. If you are rooted there are a few tether apps on the Play Store as well you could try.

My guess is gonna be a never. I don't see how an app that doesn't use root access can bypass the Verizon check. If I remember what I read correctly that change resided in the framework-res.apk
If rooted/unlocked then yes there is a mod which enables the native tethering

Yes you can. Pre 4.3 you could use several apps to access the native Hotspot feature with out having to actually have the service. With the 4.3 update all these apps are now broken and there's a message saying you're not subscribed to the Hotspot service.
Awesome thanks for providing the link. Can this be flashed on a stock rom with locked bootloader? I allowed my phone to do the OTA update not thinking about the bootloader lock :? grrrrr. I did get the phone rooted just not unlocked. If odin or stock recovery wont work any idea as to how I could get it on the ohone. Maybe ADB?
I had thought the courts and the FCC had ruled that Verizon couldn't charge it's customers an extra fee for using hotspot anymore. Can anyone confirm/deny?

It was the FCC, and it only applies to people that have a data cap. VZ is still allowed to charge unlimited data folks.

You need a custom recovery to flash that file, and you need an unlocked bootloader(or bootstrap method) to load one onto the phone.

Installed the APK. This app is set to start on boot but it seems to force close every boot on my Sprint Galaxy S3. Has this APK worked for any devices other than the Mega?
Can someone who has this working on the Mega make a Wi-FI call and disconnect Wi-FI during the call to see what happens? Thanks.
---------- Post added at 12:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:29 AM ----------
It appears that you need to follow this procedure to activate wifi calling on the mega: http://support.sprint.com/support/tutorial/Activate_WiFi_calling/50395-1828
The issue is that I can't even open the app after it's installed on my S3 so I'm assuming the apk is set up only to work on the mega.
If anyone finds a workaround, please share!

Thanks for your reply but i have already got that. Using USB and WiFi tethering by any App(foxifi or wifi teether) will compromise your internet speed. SO best method is to edit telephone.db file, after editing it you dont need any app for tethering. I have also done that but no success since we are using phone in india. Now i need telephone.db file of that phone which is not on AT&T base and running in india

NOBODY KNOWS!! Despite all the updates, I find the USB connection Internet Pass Through is flakey and always has been for me. Have Win7 and Win 8, and pass through drives me crazy on both machines. Sometimes I have success, sometimes not, so if you do get it working, you don't dare change anything. HTC Sync is another pile of crappe despite updates in that software. Last HTC I will ever buy.

Reverse Tether Options?

On my phone before last (GS3) I was able to share my computer internet connection via USB. It was called reverse tether but I believe I had to root to enable.
Has anyone had any luck achieving this functionality on the Z3v with or without root?

We are talking about REVERSE tether, which means that we want to use a computer internet connection to have internet on the phone.
It SHOULD be a standard feature as it is so easy to implement ! Some older version of android were allowing this easily and some phone maker were puting this as an option, now it's a hassle with LP !
