Is it possible in a non CM9 rom ( not sure if the dailer / incoming call screen is a feature of CM9 or AOSP. ) to add those screens? I love the big image on Cm9 when you get an incoming call, and the same for outgoing calls, however, I'd love to be able to get the S-Pen support too and really, that's the only Cm9 Feature i'm missing when I go back to the more stock roms..

It's the asop dialer and I was looking for the same but found that no one has been able to port that to stock roms for any device. It seems hard coded to the Samsung framework.

Bummer... That's the gem I love. I know there are things on the play store and i've bought 2 diffrent ones, but in the end they are quirky at best...
Thanks for the reply

U r right.
None of the third party apps works well
While I haven't used it much yet, Ultimate Call Screen looks pretty good. There's a free demo version. Has a lot of features and high resolution pictures look incredible on it. It's working well so far on the Perfection ICS rom I'm running.
I flashed the AKOP dialer to my ICS phone, it works for a day then it just starts FC'ing every time. I wish someone would port it, UCS works perfect for caller ID pics, but I really like the contact section of the AKOP dialer a lot better than the ugly Touchwiz one.

any way to port any of the Touchwiz frameworked apps (such as the dialer and contacts, or the clock) to work with Cyanogenmod9? I love CM9 but I miss the smartalarm clock and the contacts apps with swipe left/right to call and message. I tried rocketdial but i dont particularly like it.

sorry ma8 none of them will work with cm9 based roms u will face only FC's
so dont try it
since cm9 uses Pdroid frame work if iam right
Yeah they are based on the TW framework while CM in based on googles framework!
So not possible mate!
So i have flashed countless custom roms and found alot of little differences i liked in all of them. I have come to find i enjoy the customization options of AOKP and AOSP ICS roms. My only drawback is I (which seems unlike alot of other users) actually like the stock samsung messaging app, the mms that comes along with the aosp or aokp roms is slightly plain, atleast for myself.
If anyone has a fix for this or can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if kinda all over the place with this request, first time posting
Try placing it in system app after doing a Android. Can't hurt although it will probably break being able to text people from the dialer app.

Well i actually tried that once, i do know with similar based roms (ie. SHOstock, Ultimatum..) a copy and paste over the mms.apk in system/app folder followed by a restart did apply and worked fine.
When i attempted to replace mms in aokp or a cyanogenmod variant of some kind it came back with no messaging after reboot
Well from what I have read the stock mms app from samsung will not work because it is apart of the touchwiz interface and will not work on aosp/aokp/cm9! If you want it that bad you will have to go to a touchwiz based rom like shostock2. I actually prefer the stock aosp mms app over the iPhone inspired sammy app! Touchwiz sucks in my opinion.

Charlie

System apps won't work across bases (AOSP to Touchwiz or vice versa). Touchwiz to touchwiz or AOSP to AOSP works fine.

Ok, yes i read that somewhere, it was poorly explained in the forum i read though, i wasn't sure if there were some sort of modifications to the apk itself that would allow cross-base application or not. I am trying out Foxhound now, which actually has a decent interface with a dark theme, would you happen to know of any theme options for AOSP messaging?
What so good about Sammy stock MMS app that you have to stick with it?
You can try out GOSMS.
Anyway, most of Sammy apps requires their own frameworks in order to function properly.

Not that I know of. On GB, there was at least 1 AOSP application that worked on Samsung (messaging app, coincidentally). It was from CM, I think; idk what made that work while others didn't.
Again, not that I know of. I've always found AOSP apps aesthetically pleasing, so I never looked for other options.
Is it possible to add the CM9 Incall screen and the Incoming call screen's to a non CM9 build? I love CM9 for these 2 things alone, but can they alone be ported to run on a "stock" build?
I know there are playstore apps that "mimic" this to a degree, but they all fail in some way or another. Like when call waiting clicks in etc...
It's probably possible to do this, but not likely at all that anyone would take the time to get it to work.
There are theme options that can mimic it to a degree, but as you have experienced, they can only go but so far.
If you like the CM9 experience, why not just flash CM9?
If ur on ics rom then no its not possible..ics is no where near cm9 any mods u try from ics to cm9 will bootloop or just not work!

Hi all !
I have been using many different custom jellybean rome over the last month or so and have realised that they all have a noticable lag when you try to open the dialler or contacts from the home page especially for the 1st time or after you open the task manager and kill all running apps.
Does anyone have a explanation or fix for this as its really frustrating me and looks bad when someone wants you to add there number into your phone and see how slow it is to do so ....
Some of the roms i have used are : Criskelo, Dragon, Omega, Turkbey, Wanam lite to name a few.
Look forward to your feedback !

Thanks for your reply but what are these AOSP or AOKP roms & what does the abbreviation stand ?
Android open source project & android open kang project.
AOSP is the 'rom' originally released by google.
AOKP is a rom based on AOSP but with some additions.
Many thanks to both your replies !
So there is no fix for this lag in the normal jelly bean roms?

So, I have been using many Jelly Beans, now I am using the stock from France, last released on 10/23/2012, and all f... JB have the lag when you try open the dialer or contacts because they are not cached background on boot, but the useless "help" icon, it is!
Does anybody know how to set dialer (secphone) and contacts as cached background processes starting on boot?
Can't stand those lags anymore on JB.
Thanks

Exactly the same for me. The dialer, call log and favourites contacts performance is a pain in the... I can't understand how a firmware is realesed where one of the most important apk is not working properly. My solution has been exdialer (which is working flawlessly).
sometimes I think, this is the difference between Samsung and Apple products (I hate to admit that)

Yes, ex dialer, nova launcher. ... did i buy galaxy s3 or some zte blade? !?!
Does anyone have the solution for this? Now I'm on 4.1.2, and the lag is still there, I can't believe , didn't anybody complain about it? Samsung doesn't have an answer for that? Is it impossible to make a fix?

it is because contacts & dialer are not kept in memory. There is a big thread in the General section about it already. Solution till now as I understood: use for instance exDialer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1807819
+ 'Whitelist 'Dialer/Contacts' on/off toggle (make sure Contacts stay in memory.. removes the lag!)

Exactly the same here. Even stock jb has this Lag. Such a fix will be a huge improvement.
i just tried deluxe settings but it doesnt seems for me to do the trick. i am on omega v37.

it has nothing to do with quad core ...
if u install cm 10.1 it opens instant too. its just the bad software that runs on the quad core. and u think the phone boosts up all cores just for opening dialer? play heavy games on both device than u got the true power of that phone
I am searching a PHONE alternative (one you see during a call) , I really liked Samsung phone but can't find even one replacement (there are ones only for the contacts and dialer).
I wish there was a Samsung look alike phone for AOSP.
I am with ParanoidAndroid 3.15 ROM on i9100.
Also I miss the green highlight on the notification bar during a call.
If someone know how to write such an phone.apk app, I will pay him nicely.

You can try exdialer & contacts.. It's a stand alone app but you can set it to default and it works. Looks very nice, miui stile

A good thing about exdialer is the theme support. So there are many different good working themes. I used exdialer a long time on my lg l9 with a holo theme. Works good stable, fast and Battery friendly. The green lighted StatusBar... I have no idea. When i am on homescreen during a call, so i can pulldown the statusbar and can click hang on or can go back to the telephon screen. Thats enough for me. SGS2 - RevoltJB4.3 - android 4.2.2 - cm10.1 and aosp and Paranoid based rom
I want the in-call app replacement, not a dialer replacment like eXdialer etc...
