[Q] Navigation? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,was wondering what (offline - no mob.data connection, only GPS) navigation can you reccomend ? but it has to run on ICS

I believe Google works on wifi. There isn't a navigation tool that doesn't need wifi or mobile data.

Navigon
Navigon works fine I think.
Ndrive is alright. Froze up once but I think it was due to the phone overheating whilst sitting on the dash in my car.

Definitely Navigon. Never seen a more flawless piece of GPS software and I've tried TomTom, Route66, Autoroute, Ovi Maps and many others.

You said Google & Sygic when OFFLINE - Google doesnt really work offline, only on cached tiles.
Waze gets my thumbs up, and google navigation is up there also.

[Q] How to Enable Navigation which doesnt Support some Countries

hello,
I from India (Pune) i have Samsung galaxy ace S5830 overall cell is good.
But my question is why does Navigation app doesnt work in India. When i start that app after loading for few sec i get a message saying "Google Navigation is not available in your location" i have seen in many sites for solution on this bt couldnt Find any ,I got 1 soln bt it requires Rooting of cell which i dont want to do
So can anybody plzz tell me if there is any free app or any other trick that will make this app work in India.
Download brut maps... it supports navigation in places which are not supported by google maps navigation..
Downlaod it here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=867994&d=1327264439
I have a version that can save the maps, and can read it without net conection.but I don't know how to give it to you.

Its a request to everyone that while giving a soln ,specify it properly that whether the so and so app or trick requires Rooting of cell or not ,because i have clearly specified that i want a Soln without Rooting.

thr r hell lots of advantages!

An Ace without root is half an Ace... To enjoy full functionality of the Android platform, the phone needs to be rooted. You can always unroot at any time safely.
I use sygic for navigation in India... It is far better than Google maps... Worth every rupee and more.

K I have seen review of sygeic it seems good bt after I downloaded the setup it says " need to download data which is big as so requires Wifi connection ",now my problem is I dont have wifi connection bt I do use 3G ,bt still it says need wifi to download data, so can u plzz tell me soln or this or any other alternative app which is good as sygeic and supports navigation without internet for india....
Apart from Sygic, i am not aware of any navi app utilizing gps only navigation. Basically, any navi app would need to download mapping data upon initial installation. That is how the app would not require internet to navigate... With sygic, it is a one time download of 350 mb, u can try downloading from 3g.

You can use Navfree for offline navigation. The app is free also!

Navigation works only in mumbai and bangalore, not in the rest of the cities. Due to "security reasons" Indian government doesn't allow it. Now dont ask me why its available in bangalore and mumbai as they are also part of India, I aint got a clue man. The government of this country is screwed up. But yeah only mumbai and bangalore

How about the standard "stock" app Navigation?
Reccomend Sygic Aura or Navigon - seems like the best ones I've tried
Google's built-in navigation works great. If you want an offline navigation app I'd suggest navigon. Also TomTom seems to be releasing an android version later this year.

I've also used sygic aura a while. Imho it's biggest flaw is if you go off route it desperately tries to get you back on the original route instead of calculating a new route.

Any idea on how to enable voice guided navigation??
I've got my self confused on this one too
But i'm currently exploring all features of Gmaps Now
EDIT: Found the Voice navigation but the only way using it is to make sure your area is available on Google Maps Navigation service
Sent from my Xperia Mini using XDA Premium
Try using Maps 6.9.2 ,compass navigation is working fine
As for Audio Guide IDK ,I haven't tested it coz it's not available in my country
Regards
Thanks, i also don't think VOICE NAVIGATION is available in INDIA.

I've used FoxFi in the past and it worked well until I got my Mega. I've heard that a fix is to boot into recovery and clear the cache partition but it is failing for me.

Stop the native WiFi tethering client running and use Mobile Hotspot from the play store. Use the one with the green droid peering at you from the bottom of the app icon. When settings fail just ignore.

ok. No tension. I will try next only for you..
If you are on ATT, it comes with a Mobile Hotspot app....unless you turned it off.
Once you go in to the app, it will have to be configured and assigned a name. You will be given a password to use.
It works very well. I use my Mega as a hotspot for my wifi Tab 3. Just have to remember that while it's on, you will be using your data!
