Settings do not change - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies if this has been a topic of a previous post. I searched the forum but could not find anything that related to my issue.
Firstly, im loving my S3 having come from 5 years of iPhones. I have rooted my phone with odin (but my issue was present in the stock build). I have attached a picture of my build stats.
My issue is that when I set a certain behaviour in my settings menu it never sticks.
For example in the settings menu I set the option 'keep Wifi on during sleep: only when plugged in' and it sets it fine but when I return to the settings a few hours later the setting has reverted to its default - 'always'.
This issue also occurs on other settings for example the 'use packet data' in the mobile network menu keeps unticking itself.
Has anyone else had the same experience? This is my first Android device so im quite willing to accept that there is some n00b switch somewhere I need to tick
Thank you in advance for any help

[Q] HTC HD2 Time Problem

Hello all,
I'm having a problem with the click on my HD2.
It is a Portuguese Rom.
It's always one hour before! I tried to change the time and settings to GMT Lisbon/London, and goes fine. When I connect to the internet, and update some stuff, especially the weather, the GMT goes back to Casablanca.... meaning, 1 hour before!
I tried to change the setting in Manilla settings with now sucess.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance
I also had this problem some weeks ago... I corrected it by setting in the data connetion settings the option "sync time with internet" in sense settings.
Also in the start menu I had an app/button which was called "Carrier Time". It seems like it syncs it with the carrier or cell im logged in or something like that.
Are you using "My location" feature?

Hello,
Thank you for your answer. Yes i'm using my location.
I think I already got it. It's the sync time with the internet. I turned it off.
I think everything is ok now.
Thank you very much.
Time/Location Problem
Hope this is the right place for this question - I have a Telstra HD2 and live in Sydney. However, whenever I do a soft reset/hard reset the default location for time, etc reverts to Brisbane, which is in another state. Creates problems with time, especially daylight saving. I have tried changing all the usual options but with no success.
Does anyone know of any registry setting, etc that might apply. This is my second HD2 (previous one had a GPS problem and was exchanged for a new one - and still the same problem. I also noticed the demo HD2 in the Telstra store today was set to Brisbane as the default location (again, the shop is in Sydney).
Any help???

As suggested above turn of sync internet time and set your time zone manually to Sydney. If you hard reset your phone you will have to this procedure again. Soft resets are fine!

Thanks for the advice, I had tried the above, but with no success. However, I had also posted on the Forum for the Telstra HD2 9193 version and received the answer below from Tmorgan4 which seems to have fixed the problem so I am quoting it here for the benefit of anyone else who might have a similar problem. There are so many places that can cause a problem, the trick is to find the correct one.
Tmorgan 4 says: "I think I used to fix it via Settings Page - All Settings (down bottom right) - Personal - Phone. Under that is a GSM/UMTS Services Tab. Under Time Syncronization disable it."

The problem is there are three ways to sync the time on the HD2:
1) Sync with Internet
2) Sync with telecom provider
3) Sync with Activesync
The first two options use location. If your location is incorrectly determined, disable the location service and set your location manually.
It is my experience the Telco Provider time is not so reliable
Yesterday My provider insisted it was 6:05 when actually it was 10:25.... (I now Disabled it)
Internet time / Activesync time are more reliable, if your location is correct.
Disable location service if the phone determines your location wrong.
I do not know, but I can imagine syncing through Activesync can cause problems if your computer is in a different timezone as your phone (eg, computer has London as location and phone has Amsterdam as location)
Concluding:
Four settings can influence time on your phone: Activesync, Internet Time, Telco Provider and Location services.
TimeSync2 PPC
I had the same problem. The solution I found is TimeSync2 PPC

[Q] need help: syncing and packet problems

hey guys a mate of mine was asking me for help today about his s2 as i have one too.
anyway i cant help him so i said id ask on here for him.
heres the description of the problem he gave me.
Having a few problems with the galaxy s2, main problem and the most frustrating one is a background data issue where it just doesn't seem to update constantly enough. I use whatsapp, wordfeud, google talk and a few other applications which require the "Use packet data" box to be ticked in the phones settings. Regardless of wether i'm on wifi or 3g it seems to randomly update sometimes hours late... How ever if I untick the "Use packet data" box then re-tick it, the messages come straight through.
This would be fine as I can accept a minor delay but sometimes it's days at a time... I've changed firmware versions through pretty much all samsung have for the phone and all have the same issue for me.
he is on orange uk network.
running. 2.3.3
basband: I9100XXKE7
build number:GINGERBREAD.XWKF3
any ideas or thoughts would be helpful.
thanks.

I think some apps are not updating automatically or late for some reason, i was trying to find the cause too;/ I can live with it though mate, it may have something to do with the launcher.. Do a complete wipe and reflash of the rom and test again, if it still persists try using launcher pro, hopefully the first method will work though
bump anyone any ideas?
I had the same problem - the reason was, that I 've lost APN.
Therefore just check the APN status by
settings>wireless and network>mobile networks> access point names
if it's empty press left button (for settings) and choose "reset to default"
maybe this helps...
GOOD LUCK!

[Q] Block specific wifi networks?

My Galaxy S2 keeps automatically connecting to the BT Openzone wireless AP (basically a portal that you have to pay extra to use). Sometimes it connects to this instead of my home network which is a huge pain. I can tell android to forget the BT network but it soon rediscovers it again. Is there anyway I can block it completely? I cant seem to find an app that can do this.
hi mrjeffery
I had exactly the same thing happen to me yesterday - and I noticed it only started happening after i installed that badly written "My Vodafone" app.
So I "assume" that you're also running the same or similar app?
In the My Vodafone app, select the "more" tab, press your menu button - settings - and remove the tick from "Enable BT Openzone"
I have noticed that even if you uninstall the app with that option ticked it still tries to connect to BT Openzone - so if you still have the problem after you removed the app, re-install it, remove the BT openzone tick and you should be good.
Why Vodafone decided to enable the function for people who didnt sign up for BT openzone is beyond me?
Good luck and I hope this helps!
You're absolutely right! I've disabled the option in the Vodafone app which should resolve the issue completely. I never knew it was there in the first place. Thankyou!

great! thank for the help

[Q] Wifi Calling Keeps Showing Up In Quick Settings

Normally I only have 5 Quick Settings icons enabled (Quick Memo, Wifi, Sound Profile, Data, and Bluetooth), however every time I reboot my phone, the Wifi Calling icon re-enables itself and pushes itself in between the Data and Bluetooth toggles, pushing Bluetooth off of the screen. I realize that it's easy to just go back into the 'Quick Settings' settings and un-tick Wifi Calling again, but it gets really annoying when I reboot multiple times a day. Does anyone know of a more permanent solution besides just un-ticking the box every time I reboot? If it helps, I am using the Gold edition G3 from Sprint (obviously) and I'm rooted. This 'problem' has been going on since I got the phone.
I have the exact same issue, but I have my WiFi Calling quick setting button enabled. Normally I have Bluetooth in the fifth and right most spot, but WiFi Calling always forces it's way back to that spot upon a reboot, pushing BT to the next page.
In the Edit menu, they show correctly but they are actually flipped, so I just move one of them then move it right back.
Not a huge problem, it's just a weird little glitch I've never seen before on any other device.
I was just about to post about the same situation (wifi callling always showing in quick settings).
Is there a fix to this. It is getting annoying because I never use wifi calling yet it always shows up in quick settings even though I always uncheck it the quick settings options

I doubt there is a fix for it yet. I can't even reorder the icons, without it changing them back to original order.

Im having the same issue, before and after root. Anyone heard of it happening on other carriers or is it just sprint?
We should all contact Sprint and let them know. Maybe it will be fixed with an update.
This is very annoying...
I too have this same issue

Question How do I stop my phone from automatically disconnecting WiFi at night?

Hey guys,
I'm from India and I have an Mi 11x Pro running the latest stock global stable rom (13.0.3). I'm facing an issue where my wifi automatically turns off at night and I'm losing money because I freelance and I'm missing out on work emails. My phone automatically turns off the wifi connection from 2 to 3 a.m. to around 5 or 6 a.m.
I googled before posting here and I found a few recommendations on the internet and on reddit, but none of those recommended things exist in my phone. There is no "Scenarios" in the battery section. There is no "Enable/disable wifi automatically" in the Wifi Assistant section.
Please tell me how to disable this behavior, else I'm throwing this stupid phone away and never buying an Mi/Xiaomi phone again. This is preposterous. I've already lost hundreds of dollars worth of work, which is more than what I paid for this stupid phone.
I am finally turning to the good people of XDA to help me solve this.
Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for the rant.
Check your router settings. My router under Advanced-Wireless Settings, has an option to "Turn off wireless signal by schedule" with a start and end time to disable all wireless. Just a thought, but may be worth a look.

It's not a router thing. It's a thing that MIUI does where it turns your phone's wifi off at night. As soon as you unlock the phone, the wifi icon comes up and it connects to the network and there come all the email and whatsapp notifications. There is an option to disable this behavior in the EU version of the rom but not in the Global Stable version. Morons just outright removed the option to disable it while still keeping the behavior active.
I found this...
[MEGA-GUIDE] TWEAKS and DE-BLOAT for NON-ROOTED ROMS.
Hello, There are some settings tweaks for NON-ROOT users. Setedit app tweaks : Download and Install the "SetEdit" app from playstore. Open the app and make sure you are at system table press Add new setting and type...

And I think the first option should help with my problem. I'll check it out and see if it helps. Will post here of my findings.
