Is there a reason that the development forums for the US variants of the Galaxy S 3 seem to be hidden only when I am logged in? I know they are supposed to be blocked from posting since I don't have 10 posts, but it's weird that I can read more of the forums when I'm not logged in...

Yes, i was wondering the same thing. I am not sure, though, if this is temporary or not, because so many other phones have development available. For now, i post what i can in general and accessories.

You have to have made like 8 or 10 posts to get into the dev section. IDK why, but apparently they think you should be an active member first?
Funny thing is that it's accessible from a computer without being logged in? That is how I view it right now since this it's a none account for me...kinda odd to restrict access to members but allow non-members to view it. Maybe it is a permission issue on the forum cause I would think that it should be viewable but that you couldn't post until you hit certain requirements?

I think it's so that development sections aren't spammed with posts by new users that do not belong in the dev section.

more importantly those with less than 10 quality post cant download from the dev section (ex custom roms when available) so if u are looking to download those u better get on some quality posts! i just made it in recently
I can understand not bring able to post in the dev sections, but should still be able to view them, cause I can logout or open a different browser thats not logged in and I can see the dev section with no issues. Also I can see other dev sections just not the S3's...but of course it's read-only...so not sure it's working as intended?
On a different note this is a new account for me, I have been using a friends in the past cause I was helping with her phones, now that I got my first droid powered device I figured I should actually get my own account.

They reason why you are able to view it when not logged in is because you cant post anything or download . In guessing the forum decides that is a waste of time to hide it even when not logged in.

I noticed it being hidden and I think its a terrible practice to follow. I never had to post to download ROMs for the Vibrant or the G2X. Why is this device any different? There is no reason to be snotty about allowing access to the dev forums.
Edit - If you want to restrict posting privileges in the dev section, fine but everyone should be able to view and use it.
Looks to be fixed...I can now view the S3 development forums while logged in, obviously can't post in them yet but now I don't have to use two different browsers with one not logged in.
Thank you to the mod(s) that fixed this.

I apologize for that. Unfortunately, Motorola did not like the fact that I was helping their customers update the phones that they wouldn't, and after the C&D letters were ignored they had my entire 4-Shared account removed.

Too bad users of other manufacturers devices got caught in Motorola's crossfire. The OG Droid enthusiast community pretty much single handedly saved Motorola's phone division and just over a year later this is how they repay their loyal fans?
What's worse is it looks like HTC might follow Motos lead. Let's hope not. I'm happy with my Fascinate for now, but want to have other choices from other manufacturers that aren't pure evil. Thus far Samsung has been more incompetent than evil (reference to them posting kernel source that won't compile)

Don't post in dev sections if you need help with something, especially if no-one can understand what your question is or how the can help. Ask in Q&A, you're far more likely to get help there.
If you mean that "3g" does not really work on your device and nothing happens when you try loading a website, i can tell you it IS actually that slow. but JieeHD is right, please post questions in Q&A...
which leads me to one question: how the hell is he able to do his first (!!) post in dev section?! when i joined, there still was some 10-posts-rule...

yeah definately does ;D but i can remember when i first rooted and installed elelinux (it was 0.2 back then ) i noticed some issues but was unable to report them.. and it took until 0.5 when someone noticed and ele fixed.. i think in special situations there should be possibilities to send some pm to a mod , would help to find bugs earlier... especially new users do alot play around and maybe find something we would never have tried?
thank you for asking, keep me up to date would be interested, maybe this is another strange xda-premium thing? were you able to instantly post in dev section with your xda pro app?

3) I think the OP is wonder if the 3G data usage is somehow connected to the H icon that appears when data is being used. Maybe, maybe not.

Agreed, the Skyrocket people are clogging a perfectly good SGS2 forum...
Mikechannon is an admin
Or at least move them to the SGH-T989 forum since their Qualcomm hardware more closely resembles that. The only thing similar to the i777 is the at&t logo on the front...
Is there a way to atleast filter the content to exclude anything with the skyrocket term? It feels like a wild party was thrown and now there are a bunch of squaters that won't leave your home....
J am guessing something.tis being.g done about it right now. It is not showing up for me underneath our i777 links now.

There is already a thread of this in the Skyrocket sub-forum. A mod already posted that he has passed the info along.
This sub-section is BS at best. I9100, AT&T S2, and Tmobile have their own section, there is no need for combining 2 phones that are not identical.
It is just going to create a giant mess, as if these forums don't get messy enough as is.

So... why are we still stuck under the S2?
They had time to make this section, and add the Rezound/Nook/Vivid. I don't see what the complication was to give this its own section at the same time.

Because it took mere moments to create a blank forum for 3 new devices as opposed to waiting for an Admin to go back in and move forums/threads.
The Mods/Admins are aware of the situation and the situation is being discussed/looked at. It didnt get its own section at the time because we already have WAY to many forums as it is... and I think somebody thought the Skyrocket and the GS2 were basically the same phones (which they are obviously not).
Its getting sorted out though, so please just a little patience. Thank you.
Edit: Ill PM this thread to the Mods of this forum just to make sure that this has been in fact taken to the proper people. It seems most people (on both sides) are in agreement that the Skyrocket needs it own forums and should not be meshed with the GS2.
I was just asking, Sorry if I came across otherwise. Your explanation is appreciated!
I understand the forum is flooded with phones, but that (clearly) is only going to get worse with the crazy Android Fragmentation, and with Nokia joining Winmo I'm sure they will end up the same way lol.

They do. I went through the process a couple months ago to help someone sign up. It's actually a lot more complicated than when I became a member. It required a captcha and a simple question like "Musical instrument that has several black and white keys" that you have to answer. Then you see the link to the video and a check box saying that you agree to the forum rules and that have read the video.
Unfortunately, there's no way to know if they actually read the forum rules and there is no way to verify that they actually watched the video.
Maybe we should implement a pop quiz before posting a new thread.

We have enough stickies. You can include it in your post though.
One of the main problem with stickies is that a lot of people use the XDA app to log on and search.
However most don't check the stickies tab at the top so they don't even see them when they search the forum. That's why at least 75 percent of the "noobs" post their questions that have already been answered. Seriously! Next time check to see if you notice a "Sent from my _____ using XDA App"
Hell... there's one in this very page! No offense to ebatr8 or anything I'm just proving my point that a lot of people use it. Unfortunately it's my belief that a lot of them use it as their primary source to log on. So a lot of content is missed because of it. And don't think that I don't check ip addresses! When I see someone with a stupid question I check two things:
1. Do they have a history of asking stupid questions?
2. Have they asked that stupid question multiple times?
3. Are they from another country? Sometimes the language barrier makes things difficult so I tend to have more patience.
4. I check the ISP of the person.
Now let me pick on ebatr8 just real quick. Don't take it personal or anything... but looking at your ip address you have "or.wavecable.com." What is that? Also.... I'm assuming you're using your home wireless network. So is it safe to assume that you also have a PC at home that you just don't feel like using? I'm not trying to pick on you or anything I'm just trying to see the appeal of that stupid XDA app. I use it when I have to but I would much rather have a PC. Maybe that's just me though.

Generally speaking, do search in the thread first, say you're running AOKP ROM, then search within that AOKP thread for answer first. If generic issue like OP stated, search within this forum, i777. Then expand the search to XDA site and finally Google.
To OP, my suggestion, pls do provide more info if you want more useful help.
