Hi, just curious, I thought freezing and uninstalling an app through Titanium backup were the same thing?
I uninstalled htc lockscreen .apk, and the lockscreen went back to the oldschool style.
BUT, when i just freezed it, nothing happens. Its still the same lockscreen...???
I know this is a newb questions, but I could have sworn since my OG Evo days, that freezing is the same as uninstalling?
Mind sharing some of your insights?
THanks!!
That is weird I just froze the lock screen and was wondering why it didn't change!
I renamed the. Apk and the. Odex file and I have the stock ics lock screen now. Weird.
I believe freezing an app just removes it from being seen by the system (and user) kind of like hiding it and not having it use any resources. while uninstalling is completely deleting the item. For lockscreen, i've never frozen it, but you should back it up and then uninstall. Should work like the old EVO since apparently freezing didn't work

Can you tell me which directory you found the .apk file? (htclockscreen.apk I believe?)
I have no idea which folder to begin to look at

Some of my apps are not staying installed. Anyone else ever run into this problem? Then when I go into the settings/manage applications the com/blahblahblah file is there with a little SD card image next to it but nothing actually installed. I do not move the apps to the SD card either.
More information? Rom? Etc?
I have this very same issue on the stock rom, I am rooted running ADW ex I notice that an application is no longer installed after random reboots. Never consistently though. one random sd card app will disappear from my list of applications and would have to reinstall it from the android market or reboot several times and it may come back on its own.
Wow thats so weird. I swear I made a post about this back in Sept and people probably thought I was crazy lol. I would reboot and my XDA or Riptide Gp would always disappear. I couldn't understand it, those suckers were deleting themselves every time. I started using titanium backup and I would just go reinstall it along with data. It would happen to me using adwEX as well and once I went back to the stock launcher and it hasn't happened since. Going a month without an app deleting itself now. This issue is definitely way over my head...

I've had the same issue. Apps kept disappearing. A soft reboot wouldn't bring them back, but I found if you pull the battery, the apps come back. I'm stock and rooted.

Let me give this a shot because this morning I went to use the FM radio and noticed it's also gone. I went into the system/app folder with Root Explorer and found the following apk's with a blue icon rather than the ones they would normally have. I dont know wtf happened to my phone but it's been kinda jacked lately. Stock rooted only.

I also think that this may have happened after flashing the no clock zip in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377557
I never noticed it before then.
Edit, my girlfriends has the same things missing and she does not have the clock mod so it's not that. She also uses GoLauncher and it stock rooted.
Home apk and moto fm radio apk's are installed but the apps don't show up. Does anyone know the correct permissions for these two?
Rooted Stock
My apps are disappearing too. Very weird, not sure why. Was using GO Launcher, switched to Zeam. Hope to see some improvements
I still can't figure out why I have my FM radio on my system/app folder but it is not in my apparently drawer. My stock home lanucher will not launch either and says "this is not a motoblur device" wtf?

What program to use and what is safe to freeze? I have already tried AntTek app manager and App Quarantine. I have root explorer and not quiet sure how to use it to freeze apps.
I use Super Manager but I think the free ver won't do freezing. Its build into the apk manager.

Use root explorer to find the system/app .apk u wanna freeze and rename it to.bak
Be careful..freezing some apps can cause force closes or issues in other apps if they are dependent on the one u froze....nandroid first just in case u need to restore
Titanium Backup Pro (paid version) and ROM Toolbox Pro (paid version) freeze apps.
I don't know of any free app that does this.

Only thing is BF used to be the BEST at it.
And was a lightweight app SPECIFICALLY for freezing.
I didn't want an app with all those "features" I didn't use so were useless to me
I can see at the apks in root explorer. Now how do i change the last part and when i do change it where should i store it.
Ashclepdia I hope you year has started out good... And thanks for all the steps on rooting my phone. Your right once you start it becomes addicting and eclipse is cool, I wish i could use the boot up screen as a live wallpaper..

Lol
I didn't create rooting
I know what you mean tho lol
All u gotta do is long press the apk and choose rename....and just add to the name .bak
(u gonna have to mount/system as R/W first to be able to edit anything though....just Tap the gray button on top of screen once u are in /system/app)
After you rename it there is no reason to move it. You could just move the apk to your sd card or straight up delete also. But I don't recommend that until u figure out what is safe to remove without causing problems....
As I said tho...be careful what u "freeze"
Things like Yahoo.apk if frozen will break your contacts.. They will force close on u.
Ooh yeah...and thank you hope yours is too
And your welcome.
Have fun experimenting! Lol
Ok.. Got it so it will just stay in the same location. So, no freezing yahoo.. My year has started out not drama free...lol

if you use titanium you can back up the apps before removing them so if they do F things up you can easily bring them back. Also gives option to just freeze the app so it doesnt run

I don't think titanium restores system apps...you have to save a copy of the apk before deleting then when you need it you can just move it back to the system directory to reinstall

I've installed SearSlim on my at&t Galaxy Note and have set the DPI to 160 for tablet mode. My only issue is that while I still have the toggle available for the flashlight the torch.apk is not included in this rom. Does anyone have it or know how I can obtain it?
I use the free Nexus Torch (dev: farproc) app in the Play Store, works great...same one touch function. There's an app by the same name dev'd by Ben Buxton that kept asking me for SU access.
I don't think that will work with your toggle function though, hopefully someone can UL the apk.
Yeah, I was hoping to be able to use that toggle. I suppose if no one has it handy I can always do a nandroid, install another version of cm9 to get the apk, and install that after restoring.
I got the torch.apk and I thought I might leave a link for it in case someone else is ever in need.

Thanks for hosting it, I deleted mine for some reason.... and didn't want to re-flash or restore my Nandroid and do a whole bunch of changes again. Also Titanium Backup wouldn't extract it for some reason.
EDIT: It keeps crashing I even changed permissions and rebooted I just realized this is in Samsung forum, Haha, That's probably why... I'm on an HTC Sensation.

I've had the same trouble ...
I'm convinced that rom mangler (manager ) has something to do with not being able to pull apps from a nandroid backup ..
But of course ...the pro version of titanium isn't 100% reliable either.
It worked well a few days ago ....then yesterday I couldn't extract again .....g
The notification pull down toggle would require some framework and system ui edits to get to work properly I believe...very involved process...however you can always pull apart the Rom either on your computer or in root explorer to get the apk, and then you might be able to install it and have at least the home screen widget toggle for it.

Yeah I started by doing that....but I decided it was taking too long and it would be easier to do an "adb shell ls" in /system/app and just copy and paste the names of the ones I wanted to get rid of into a zip
Although looking back, that way would've been quicker than making this...but whatever

I believe /system has its own, separate amount of storage...so deleting these doesn't get you more space in /data
Not 100 percent sure on that though.
Yeah, just looked in Titanium Backup, System has 1.84GB and Data has 12.2GB
And anyway, these apps are a few megabytes...so....at most maybe a couple hundred megabytes of system are freed up

Just open the zip(don't extract it), navigate to "META-INF\com\google\android" and copy updater-script to your desktop(or anywhere really). Then open it with notepad(I used notepad++, but notepad should work fine) and edit the line that says "delete("/system/app/......". When you've finished adding or removing the apps you want to keep or want to remove save the file and copy and paste it back into the zip.
Let me know if you need me to clarify anything

I let all the bloatware apps update via the Play Store when I restored my phone after unlocking. It freed up 200MB for me on the data side, no idea on the system side.
Looking back at it, I think the removal of HTC_Widget_ShowMe.apk/HTC_Widget_ShowMe.odex gets rid of all the HTC Widgets. If so, does anyone happen to have a copy of them so I can push them back to my phone?
EDIT: OK, clearly I am a moron, the ShowMe removal did not affect the HTC widgets. I still don't have things like the Mail widget when I go to put a new one on 1 of my screens though. I can see the APK via Root explorer. Anyone have any idea on what the issue may be?

Whew, thankfully it's not just me... anyone else confirm that they cannot add any new HTC branded widgets? Or, if you ran this script and can still add widgets, did you omit any of the APK's from the script?
