I've turned it on, but have only seen the eye icon pop up a couple of times. Seems to time out still.
I haven't had much luck with it...I disabled it after about a day of trying it out.

I have had no luck with it in many different lighting situations : /
Maybe it doesn't like my glasses or something...
Seems to be more of a novelty, it works sometimes, but I think it has to be directly in front of you.
I have this smart stay on since I had the phone and never seen it work oh and I had the S3 since 6-21-12

It works fine with me

I just did another test with really good lighting for 5 minutes with a 30 second timeout and it did say on the whole time. I made sure to keep the phone still and be looking at it the whole time. I guess it can work, but under real life situations maybe it's not perfected yet...
It's worked flawlessly for me so far, even in relatively dim lighting. The eye ball icon should only turn on every X seconds (where X is the the timeout you set for the screen under settings). If your eyes are on the screen when the eye ball icon appears, the screen won't timeout.
After some testing, I've come to this conclusion about smart stay.
I put the timeout to 15 seconds so I wouldn't have to wait long for each test. After 10 seconds, I saw the eye icon appear, and then on the 15th second, it would appear again. The screen would only stay on if I looked directly at the front facing camera on the 2nd eye icon.
I tested it multiple times, just looking at the screen, looking at a website, reading a website and starring at the front facing camera. It only worked when I looked at the ffc when the eye icon appears. Other than that, it would just timeout like normal.
Has anybody else done any type of testing? This is a crappy feature if you have to stare at the ffc only when the icon appears to get it to work because if you might miss it if you're actually reading something on the screen.
Works well with me..

works fine here, actually, pretty well, my phone sits on my desk at work in a cradle at about the 10 o'clock position (my computer monitor being the 12 o'clock), i will open FB and leave it open, and smart stay works, while im looking at my computer monitor....i think it all depends on how well the software can differentiate your eye from the rest of your face, or if you wear glasses

Ok so one of the cool features I was excited about was the eyetracker feature. But I've haven't noticed it once work for me. They icon will flash on the status bar but it will still keep going black. doesn't matter how close the phone is or what kind of lighting is in the background. Anyone else?

Was the front facing camera directly facing you when the icon appears? It needs to be looking right at your face and not angled slightly in any direction.
Doesn't seem to work at all for me. I dont believe it's because I wear contacts...

You say that, however the advertising in the UK shows a guy reading to his daughter from the phone in the dark, when his eyes close it shuts off the phone and states the phone only sleeps when you do.
I would call that false advertising if it in fact doesn't work in low or no light...

Tested properly today, multiple times, on my way through London whilst my girl drove. Bright sunny day, and it failed everytime. I tried opening my eyes WIDE, moving the phone nearer, farther... nothing.
It works randomly for me, in dark or light conditions.
This needs an update, period.
My one fails every timr. It just dosnt work even very bright days. Shame on you samsung.

Dont like hearing this at all, this was the feature I was looking to the most i think.
It works fine for me. Not 100% of the time but at least 80%. Most of the time I don't even notice the icon flashing because it's so quick.

did you try to put your phone around 20 - 30cm as mentioned in smartstay function? reading with the phone to close to our face also prevents it to capture whole face and follow our eyes movement.
surprised you're all complaining about this. It works almost everytime for me, even if im looking at the screen from a slight skew
I too have been disappointed in this feature. Doesn't seem to work at all.

Does not work for me either.
I know most people already know this, but smart stay has to be turned on in settings-display. May be just double check if it's on?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Did any of you try it in landscape mode? when i'm reading pdfs in landscape, most of the times smart stay fails.
I find this very weird to hear everyone having so much trouble with this, me and my friend have not had one drama and it's been awesome. All i did was juts make sure it was turned on in the motion settings and it works a treat!
It doesn't work on me as well
I've tested and seems to work about 70pc of time. It has definitely failed too..... But the little eye icon has shown too and it has kept the screen on.... I'd say failures have been a mix of bad/odd angle held and lighting...

im looking for how i would go about making the lowest brightness on the evo 3d lower than what it is from the factory. ive seen this accomplished on the atrix ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245332 ) so i am hoping there is some way of doing it on the evo 3d. im not looking to use screen filter or any masking apps. im just curious if anyone knows if theres a hardware way of doing this. thanks for all your help.
I've been looking for something like this for a long time. I've came up empty. There's apps that say they do it, but don't.......blah....frustrating.
Try rootdim, it's not a screen filter
Sent from my IdeaTabA2109A using Tapatalk HD
ive tried root dim. but it only goes as low as thirty and then it doesnt get any dimmer. so theres something in the software somewhere limiting it so u cant make it so dim that you cant see the screen at all. i just wish i knew or could figure out where that limit is and change it. grrr
Lux brightness. Been using it for months now. It's pretty awesome. It actually gets low enough to where you can hardly see what's on the screen.
tried that one too. same thing. stops dimming at a certain point before it reaches actual bottom of the scale.

I agree with this.
I use screen dim on this device, it's the same between 0 and 30.
When I use it on my Acer Iconia 110 Tab, at 0.8%, it's literally black.
I can lower the brightness to nothing.
Both use LCDs. So I'm curious what limits the display.
It may have something to do with 3D, since the brightness goes to max for 3D.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/47r0gjinq0a0q1z/Screenshot_2013-01-05-01-37-09.png does anyone know what display is in the evo 3d? im using that atrix thread to bump my way around a little bit but i need to know what the display is. these are the choices.
If you get an older version of Lux, it allows you to dim the screen to where you couldn't see the screen at all (like the old Game Boy colors where you needed the leds to see the screen) the new one that I'm running now doesn't allow you to do that anymore.

Can you clarify which version?
I have v0.75 right now. I think it's 0.66 that does it. Anything below the 0.7x version dims it I'm pretty sure.
PM me and I'll hook you up.
Okay so I work in a water restoration company and figured why not test the accuracy of the S4 with the tools we use in the field. Well with any thermohydrometer's they take a little time to get an accurate reading for a few reasons and depending on where it's stored. Our meters are stored in a water proof box and of course the phone is in your pocket. Both of which will affect the readings for the first 1-5 minutes.
Attached are the readings I got within 3 minutes of each other and they are very close to each other to consider the S4's readings to be very accurate. The readings were still getting closer to each other but they were slowing down. So I'd say it's safe to say you can trust the readings the only thing yo remember is that when you've got the phone in your pocket and not off the table you have to let it sit a little if it's been sitting then kick it on and the readings are already correct.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. No I didn't adjust any settings on my phone they were correct out of the box and leaving the screen on and heat from screen and battery didn't bother the readings at all. Holding your phone can if your hand is near the bottom near the sensor.

I am really interested in knowing if the device will have a led for notification or only the side blinking edge foe some contacts.
I have the same question. Do we have the notification LED at all?? That is the most useful feature in Android phones.
yes...
I think I saw it on one of those hands on video.
Yes it does.

besides the phone having a screen? lol.. this question comes up every time a new phone comes out... out of my 10+ years using smartphones (at least 20 different phones) ive never seen a phone without a notification light. heck, even my v600 clamshell has one.

S6 edge sometimes miss it but it can display on going notifications on its your preferred edge either left side or right side. The black and white notifying will not effect to your battery life.

The newer Moto phones like Moto X and Droid Turbo do not have a notification light. They use "active display" that the whole screen lights up every 30 seconds or so if you have notifications. I prefer the old fashioned notification light myself.
I'm using a galaxy s2 right now with no notification led.
Glad s6 edge has it!

This phone can completely work as a laptop replacement.
For everyone? No, there will always be things that don't work for some people, missing features, sacrifices etc.
But for me? Well... yeah. I had a bluetooth keyboard and trackpad from like, 3 tablets ago. Seriously, that keyboard is going on 4 years old now (the majority of that time spent gathering dust in a draw, if I'm honest). Upon stumbling upon it, however, I thought I'd give it a go. My Note 10+ has a kickstand case so now was the perfect time to test it out. I connected everything up, sat down at my coffee table, and poked around.
My first test was copying a whole bunch of stuff from a PDF into my Fifth Edition Fight Club app. That is to say, reading text from one screen and typing it into another. CTL+C and CTL+V worked when copying other text from discord or Word. The side by side windows were brilliant (the one annoyance was when I started typing, not realising I had the wrong window in focus).
Normally I have YouTube playing random videos in the background when I'm doing stuff like this, so I had some Doctor Who playing in my video player in a floating window for a little while as well. Ended up switching to Play Music after a little while, however, because I found I kept moving the window around. The addition of the pen for navigating the tiny screen was actually perfect though. The trackpad was... ordinary (but again, 4 year old keyboard, I'm honestly surprised it worked at all)
Sure, the screen is small, but I had an EEE PC 701SD back in the day. I live for tiny computing.
Final thoughts? I wouldn't use this in the house while my Razer laptop and its second monitor are two rooms away, but to catch up on stuff while I'm away from the house, it actually works AMAZINGLY well, even without on-device Dex.
Kudos, Samsung.
After a while, I prefer to use it when it is in portrait mode. Especially when switching between browser, WhatsApp and telegram. Portrait feels better
