[Q] HELP. Phone wont switch on

Guys, I tired to flash the s3 look and feel rom from the galasy s2 android development theard on my s2 and now it wont swtich on. It will boot in download mode but no recovery. when I connect it to power, the battery icon only comes on once and then it switches off. Sometimes the screen starts flashing.
Could someone kindly advise how can I get around this?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
If the phone boots only into download mode, that's still a good sign. Just use the Odin tool and flash the new ROM. I know that doesn't help but need to stay calm and find the proper images.

You've obviously flashed it incorrectly or onto a incompatible rom or device variant. Next time read before flashing.
thanks guys,
do I flash a new kernel using odin? if yes, which one?
Thanks again.
Any one you want. Download a stock ICS or GB ROM from sammobile.com, and flash through Odin. Lucky you didn't brick your device, READ TWICE, FLASH ONCE.
Chris.
You should also confirm what model phone you have. Look on the label under the battery. What does it say for model?
flashing the stock firmware is the best option .. that solved my problem in the past .
flash the stock rom using odin . That is the best way to revive a bricked phone .
Oh good lord I hope this guy actually has an i9100.
I do have s2 i900. I am downloading I9100XXLPH.zip as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
Is this ok? or do I need stock rom/kernel? if yes, could you advise where I could get that from?
Thanks

To downgrade from ICS to GB.
1.. Download from Samfirmware.com, your providers last GB firmware before ICS.
2.. Unzip the firmware once to the .tar.md5
3.. Backup your files from your internal sdcard that you want to keep to your PC/laptop, ie photos, docs etc.
4.. Make a nandroid backup.
5.. Remove your external sdcard.
6.. Enter recovery. Data/factory reset. advanced, wipe dalvik cache
7.. Mounts & storage. format system. Format Data. Format sdcard.
8.. Turn off phone and remove battery.
9.. Re-insert battery and enter download mode.
10..Start Odin as administrator.
11..Connect phone to PC using original usb cable and wait for yellow confirmation box
12.. Load GB firmware into PDA and press start.
13.. Once GB firmware has rebooted fully, go to dial pad and dial *2767*3855#
14.. Phone will factory reset and then re-boot into GB.
15. .Remember your phone will not be rooted at this time.

hey pal since ur phone is carrier branded( UK Virgin) i think 2.3.5 is the latest by the virgin people hence try the same
ps- also u can check the link below for carrier branded official firmaware from intratec hope it might help u
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
i dont think it is carrier branded, i think i can use carphone warehouse and then manualy put network settings and thanks for the link but i cant work out which one is gingerbread 2.3.6 from that link, i will just have to keep reading but thankyou anyway
I though of downgrading back to gingerbread because of the battery and wifi issues but then I see some other small practical things and improvements that the ICS has and I like, and just stay with it!
i have tried ICS update and i just dont feel its ready, or should i say apps arnt ready for it yet, you mentioned battery drain, i would run down a compleate charge in about 4 hours the way i use my phone. hd game, mobile tv, web browsing ect, gingerbread last double that. lots of apps are rejected by ics older hd games, other apps are being updated to work with ics, heard juice defender helps ics a little, so i will wait for a while with gingerbread

Meh, could've been anything. Since it is working now, I suggest you just leave it. Also, post this kind of thing in the general section.
no need to be sarcastic about the wrong section..
but is it that i need to change the firmware or something?
can u point me to a solution or a bug or something..
For one factory reset fixed it means you know what you did that crashed your phone.
Second, get rid of lpq and flash something newer, but with full wipe before and after.
User dial code to wipe, or better cwm format cache data system dalvik.
ok please suggest me something new to flash...
all pointers are welcome

Search the forum for the answer this is a common problem. You will need Odin. Since you have bricked your phone install a custom Rom and Kernel. You will not go back to stock!!

I have attached the odin file for you
What firmware was you using when this happened. You've sounds like it's recoverable. If download mode is all you can get your probably get best results by downloading official firmware from Sam firmware and extracting it then flashing the zip file in odin via PDA section. All the best.

I don't remember exactly my firmware but it was 4.0.3 and I haven't installed 4.0.4 but I did have CM10 just before I did restore from CWM and now I did factory data reset, this happened.
I prefer stock ROM, but I don't mind custom ROM either as long as I can get back to stock ROM

Flash a stock Rom via Odin. Wait till your phone boots up. Go back to Odin install a custom kernel (i recommend siyah kernel). Backup your stock Rom, then install a custom Rom. There is a lot of tutorials to tell you exactly how to do this process. If you need help at any point of this process just send me a message and I will give you a detailed walkthrough. You should be fine though!!

If you want stock then take your pick from stock firmware at samfirmware. Aviod the ones with the red warning triangles, risk of brick bug!

How about from the intratech's thread? And is the Odin flash failing risk big with the situation I have right now?
I've used odin A LOT and never had a problem. I only ever use the PDA section and never touch anything else because I don't understand it. I can't comment on intratechs thread as I've never used his software. Any custom ROMs are normally flashed via CWM.

i9100 soft bricked

i tried to flash my brothers sgs2 on 2.3.5 fw( dont remember what exactly) via odin and it stalled on flashing factoryfs.. on multiple fw packadges.. 2.3.5 and 4.0.3 and 4.0.4.. before that the phone worked fine... now i can only put it in download mode with a usb jig..
any thoughts on how to try to fix it?
thnx in advance

If it's really a i9100 then i would flash this stock firmware with Odin in PDA
i will try it ...managed to get it boot to stock recovery by flashing old bootloader... but still no charging...
downloading this fw and will try it
Okay let me know how it goes and just to make sure :
Is it a i9100 or another derivate of the s2?
Did you check the repartition box in Odin? If yes, you'll need a correct pit file for i9100.
There is no such thing as a "soft brick" your device is either bricked or it isn't and if you can get into download mode it isnt "bricked".
What you have done is flash a incompatible rom or kernel to your device.
Firstly give some relevant information, what model/variant is your device? What rom did you try flashing?
If you can get into download mode, flash a custom kernel like Siyah then reboot into recovery, wipe data/fcatory reset and see if rom boots. If not try flashing a custom one like CM10 via recovery until you research and find correct stock one for your device and try ODIN again.
It is a i9100, said so in stock recovery...
The fw i was on was 2.3.5 from austria 3 network.. i think it is KI2 ..
I tried flashing Lp7, but before that i tried my country's KK1(gb) beacause i had it on my pc and i had a cf-root kernel with it...
It also stalled on factoryfs.img.. every fw seems to stall on that...
None of the times i tryed flashing was re-partition ticked..
Im on my job right now but as soon i come home i will try some of these solutions and will report here
Thx
