My battery life has definitely suffered.
I've also noticed under the battery section of my settings that it says that media is taking up most of it. I've never seen that before I upgraded. Any ideas?

Guys, it's because you've probably spent every millisecond that your eye lids were parted from each other playing around with new features, thus using the phone more often now than you probably were prior to the ICS update........ Oh wait, sorry that was an evaluation of my own battery issue.
Strange hearing this. I was more than a month on ICS china leak and battery was great. Now i went back to oficial 2.36 due to waiting for genuine ICS and bat life is terrible. Clean system, no apps installed, no play, just couple of calls and emails, phone didnt last 14 hours. Where is this ics!

You're probably for the most part right, but I still think my battery life on ICS is less than GB. I managed to use up the entire battery in less than a day, on my first day with ICS. This is something that never happened with GB, even on the first day I got my Maxx. My battery usage doesn't show anything unusual. 60% of it was used by the screen (auto brightness).
NOt sure what builds we are talking about but here are my stats using the baddass battery monitor.
OTA GB (.181) = 2days average battery life
.79 Moto leak = 1 day average battery life
So in reality my battery lif is half what it used to be, with the Android OS using about 20%.
Here's to hoping the ICS OTA update is better than the 4.0.3 .79 build.

I'm on the OTA, and the Android OS is using 10%.
I'm rooted on the .211 leak and noticed a considerable drop in battery life when I first flashed. I did some digging using the 'badass battery' app and found that winamp had been draining my battery for some reason. After uninstalling winamp my battery life immediately returned to normal. I highly suggest getting that app and looking at the 'app sucker' breakdown to see which apps are using the most battery as opposed to androids stock usage breakdown.

Well actually, this is kind of scary. I got off work at 6 am this morning, came up and went to sleep somewhere between 7:30 and 8 am. I woke up around 3 pm and my batter was left charging via usb from the computer with about 80% battery THEN. So I woke up at 3 pm and my battery was COMPLETELY DEAD. I had to plug it up to a power outlet. I understand that, but what I DON'T understand is how in the heck did the battery die in the FIRST place when all it was doing while I slept is being charged from my computer (which I ALWAYS do) and was already at 80% when it was plugged up?

I have the same issue. I fully charge my phone every night. I drive a truck for UPS so I don't look at my phone too often throughout the day. By end of day, I have about 30% battery left and over 70% of it has been consumed by the screen!?
Also, I have noticed the battery takes MUCH longer to charge. Usually, when I had GB, I would get home from work, usually with about 60% battery left. I would plug it in and go take a shower. When I got out, it would be fully charged. About 30 minutes. NOW, I get home with a 30% battery and 30 minutes of charging gets me up to about 45% battery. I don't get it. Is there anyway to go back to GB?
My issue was, I was rooted on GB and I could NOT update to 4.0.4. It would download, get about 1/4 way installed and fail. I unrooted the phone and got the same results. Used rootkeeper etc. So I had to sideload the OEM ICS from Verizon. Nothing but horrible battery life ever since.
Some people are having battery issues, but it's not a universal thing. I'm getting great battery life. I was about a day and a half with moderate use on my Maxx and was down to 60%.
People having these issues, I'd look at all your installed apps and maybe you guys can find a commonality. It's a known issue that Facebook's apps is a battery killer, maybe others are under ICS.
Try epsilon V2.
My battery life is pretty bad. It was bad on stock and still not any better with eclipse. It dies after about 6 hours and I only use it for 5 minutes every hour in that time. I even exit apps before putting it in my pocket. Badass battery and stock battery app both give similar info. The screen accounts for 70% or more even though its only on for a total of 30 minutes in those 6 hours. Charging is also incredibly slow. With gingerbread it would last for 8+ hours and usually only be at 30-40% by then.

In the CleanROM ICS thread, Marine6680 posed an observation that I think bears looking into.
Please vote only if you are using an ICS ROM.
EDIT TO ADD***
Also please vote based on how your phone behaves while it is turned on. If you experience different behavior when the phone is off, please post that as a response.

I have both the stock and the extended battery. My stock battery has stopped charging fully, only to 92%, my extended charges normally. My fiance's battery will not charge fully either. It is stock as well.
So it could be that these new 3.8v batteries (which are tweaked chemistry versions that have a slightly higher voltage than standard 3.7v) are not supported by the new kernel's charging controls. (which seems odd that it wouldn't) That is, if that is even controlled by the kernel and not hard wired into the mainboard.
So it may be an issue with the batteries... or not. If it only happens with the stock batteries then it will be harder to say for sure.

I've posed the question in both the CleanROM and Ineffabilis ICS threads, but figured I'd post here to try to get all ICS ROM users to see it.
So far, all responses in those 2 threads have been that people with charging issues all had 3.8v batteries and that people with no charging issues (myself included) had 3.7v batteries.
Please respond here with your findings. Just pull out your battery and look on the back, top line of text.
I'm not sure what can be done about it, but at least it would answer a question that seems to be annoying a lot of people across ALL ICS ROMs.
Great idea for the poll, but still wrong section. Should be posted in General.

I have the 3.7 battery and have had no issues with charging at all.
I have a 3.8 for about another 3 hours. I'm stopping by Verizon and getting a 3.7. I dare them to try to tell me no.

Well, my battery lasts like 2 hours since I put ICS on there but I can't tell if thats the usual terrible Rezound battery life or something wrong with my rom.

If I charge too 100% while it's turned off (since I have the 3.8v battery), I get great battery life on ICS. Yesterday I got around 16 hours with 4g on all day under normal use. On stock GB and the two GB roms I tested out, I was getting between 14 and 15 hours on average with 4g turned off.
If I try to charge with it turned on and experience the 87% ceiling, I get horrible battery life. 10 hours max, and the battery seems to discharge very quickly when I'm actually using it.
on my De-Sensed ICS Rom it doesn't charge up to 100% pretty much stops at around 98%~.. I have pretty amazing Battery life Could go an entire day with out hitting 20%, but then again I don;t have alot of apps
I have a 3.8v battery, running ICS, no charging problems, no battery life issues.... no nothing.
The ONLY strange issue I have, and I've had it since day one on GB, is that when i unplug my phone from the charger it will say either 99 or 100% on my battery widget, however if you wait a bit and then look at the battery stats chart later in the day, it shows that it began discharging from 93-94% rather than 99-100%. I simply assumed the battery scaling in software was slightly off from what the battery itself is reporting, but since it doesn't seem to be a problem at all I have just ignored it. The battery easily lasts all day with plenty of juice to spare for me.

wow, 10 hours is bad battery life on a lte phone?
If you aren't in a LTE area, make sure to set the phone to CDMA only instead of CDMA/LTE since it will forever search for an LTE signal... Thought I'll share that little tib bit.
Oh and In my situation I'm always connected to Wifi, Home,School, Work so I go into *#*#4636#*#* and under Phone Info I switch to CDMA only (1x) instead of CDMA Auto (3G) since in my commute I'm not stream/downloading anything... So keeping the Phone at 2G all the time makes for an even better battery life
But To each their own
** Since the issue is more ICS centered, I (among others) would blame this on the Leaked (unstable) battery/power drivers... So only until the official release we can't blame ICS as a whole (for now)

Maybe "horrible" was an overstatement, but it's certainly worse than what I was getting on GB or when I'm actually able to charge fully. That's also with 4g disabled, which I should have mentioned.

Which rom are you on?
Posted this in another thread but:
Just got off the phone with Verizon, they said they are pushing an OTA that addresses battery issues. Take that with a grain of salt
He texted me the info: 2.01.605.00: Baseband:0.95.00.1118r
There's been mixed reviews of battery life in the CM7 rom for the NT as far as battery life is concerned, some are saying they've run it with moderate use since the day it was released and only used about 20 - 30% so far while others are saying battery life is terrible.
SO I thought I'd start a little poll to see what people are getting, I'm guess the battery drain is due to various software being installed so not really the OS's fault.
For me the Battery life is greatly improved over stock, for instance I took it of charge 10 hours ago, it's admittedly only been used for a few minute son and of during those 10 hours but it's lost the grand total of 4% battery in those 10 hours which I consider pretty good really.
Soi lets here what everyone thinks, remember to vote !
Battery life - improved
This is my third day on the CM7 alpha - battery life has been much better than before. Considering I have probably spent more time with the NT turned on over the last couple of days than I normally would, the battery used is less than normal. Previously I would use about 60% of my battery per day. Now I am using 30%-40% - and that includes downloading and configuring many, many applications.
I really think its much better than stock in my cm7 nt
No problems here. Take off charge around 6am and return to charge around 10pm with usually more than 80% left depending on usage.

I don't think mine has been on a charger for the last 16 hours or so, light usage, wireless has been off most of the time, and I use a task killer to kill things before I turn off the screen. Didn't power off, just put to sleep last night before bed, it's still at like 85%.
So far, it seems better than stock battery life to me, or at least no worse, and I have a lot more apps installed now.
Edit: Internal version.
It might help if folks said if they were running off SD card or internal memory when looking at battery life - I have the impression that the SD card reader on the NT is something of a battery vampire.
Internal CM7 since it was released.
Live wallpaper on Golauncher
wifi set to screen off-off
Brightness at about 60-65%
It's been off of charge for 4 hours 21 minutes this morning and I'm at 96%
Dolphin HD and Gmail have been running all that time.
Hasn't been out for long enough to really tell but my impression is that it's about the same as stock.

Yes. I don't really know what "standby" means. This use was about 40 minutes of checking email, weather news and etc followed by About 2 hours with the screen off then an hour of dinking around. Watched all the superbowl commercials, staying up on XDA and other forums with Tapatalk and learning things in CM7. I'd describe this as light use bordering on moderate.

Watching video or playing games can be quite intensive. Flash is probably the most intensive for video playing.
Keep a good eye in it over the next few days then cone back and post if you've noticed anything that makes it better or worse with battery life
Last I checked mine was going on 18 hours and at about 40%
One thing I noticed is that the charger for my Moto phone doesn't seem to charge the nook as well as the nook charger. I'll have to look at the nook wall wart and see if it's pumping out more juice. For reference the Moto charger is only 4.33W (5.1V at 850mA).

What kind of usage? Low, high, moderate? Just curious because my wife and I do a decent amount of Netflix (1-2 hours a day) and I don't have to charge more than every 3 days. This is with 1.4.0 rooted. I've been exceptionally pleased with that - power consumption in standby seems to be incredibly miserly with stock (most likely due to WiFi being turned off when the system is in standby).

On the subject of the battery, I posted about an issue I encountered last night, here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22261812
Additional information: At the time, I was fooling around with a playstation emulator, which i'm fairly sure constitutes a heavy drain on system resources. Battery drain seemed appropriate for the level of activity.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
Internal install, wifi off during sleep. Figure the end of the graph was about 19-20 hours or so of sleep. Before that was a constant internet, twitter, WWF session. Screen brightness is in the bottom 1/3rd of the slider.
I am going to beat the hell out of it tonight and will see how the battery holds up. Looks pretty solid just sleeping, so we will see what it can do under load.
So found that if your wireless location is turned on, it will wake your NT about every 5 minuetes. That's not a good thing
If anyone is seeing drains, i suggest using betterbatterystats to help track down the culprit.

So Im getting horrible battery life with this now. Not really sure whats going on. I use to be able to leave my nook on standby for days and last night it was at about 30% woke up this morning and it was completely dead...
I'm just curious to see how everyone's doing with battery life on the new software leak. Lately I've been getting HORRIBLE battery life. For the past 2 days, I've only gotten 4-5 hours with moderate to heavy usage. This was worse than what I was getting with ICS ROMS before the leak. The reason I update to the new firmware is because I heard people were getting exceptional battery life off just the stock battery.
I think the reason may be I haven't completely charged it because it was stuck at 99% for like an hour before I took it off the charger. I finally just let it charge all night and I will see how it goes today. I'm curious to see how everyone else is doing with battery life.
Also, if you could, state which ROM you're using and possibly what things you turn on/off to help/hinder battery life.
I'm running BAMF v1.1.1, my screen's on auto-brightness, I only sync my gmail account and weather, 90% of the time I use Wi-Fi, no GPS or BT on at all. I also have Juice defender on as well.
Edit: Well actually I just checked my phone and after about an hour and 50 minutes, my phone was down to 91%. about an hour and a half of that was streaming pandora on wi-fi. Maybe I just never had it charged completely. Screen on time was only about 20 minutes, though. I think that's pretty solid battery life. I guess I'll see how today rolls out.
Oh and also if you could state which battery you're using. I have the 3.7 V.
Edit: Since making this thread, my battery life has gotten considerably better. It idles just fine, now. I think there might have been something wrong with the screen off profile which was causing my battery life to be so horrible.
I would suggest using Scott's CleanWipe 5x when switch ROM's. I don't know why and it may seems a little unnecessary, but I'm getting a lot better battery life after using that and upgrading to BAMF v1.2 from CleanROM 4.1. Also, I turned off automatic brightness to 30% which I think has made a pretty good difference. The screen is a huge battery killer. I played Temple Run for like 20 minutes and the battery went down from 98%-77%. But I can get a 9% battery drop from sleeping for 9 hours with the phone completely idol.
It looks like 1/3 of the people are getting worse battery while 2/3 are getting the same or better. If I could revote I would and say my battery life is better now. So anyone hesitating to flash the new RUU. I'd say go for it. The odds are still with you: 66.666667% vs. 33.333333% that you will still get equal or better battery life.
mine is about the same.

Screen brightness between 30 and 40%. All haptic turned off. Five hours into the day and 65% battery left. On Nils business sense 3.1. 3.7V battery.

To those having worse battery life, mind saying what ROM, and stuff you are comparing your results against?
I'll be watching this closely as I've been straddling the fence on upgrading to the leak. I usually don't take this long to jump in the fray no matter what my phone has been. I have heard more good than bad about the leak overall. But you never know if they are legit concerns or people overlooking things just to be running ICS. I'm curious to see what battery life people are getting.

I've been running BAMF, but I switched over to CLEANROM 4.1 and I'm gonna see how that works out for me.
I've been getting about 5 hours tops with the new firmware as opposed to 10 hours with the same amount of usage on GB.
I use the extended battery, and I can honestly say I'm getting 5+ hours. From 100% to complety shutdown I would get 30+ hours with pretty heavy usage. Right after I updated I charged up to 100% and used it probably the same as I had before, pretty heavy use, I got 35+ hours.
Something is definitely better here.

Using Cleanrom DE. 1.0
Can people please start stating what ROM they're using, battery voltage, power saving tips. What governor, kernel, underclocked?
I'm using the leak ICS 4.0 Rom. By battery has gone way down. A couple 2-3 minute phone, a few text an my battery will be drained in about 6 hours. The phone is getting hot and draining the battery. On gingerbread, I could go 8 hours with streaming, texting, playing games and more before my battery was drained.

BAMF 1.1....normal power saving tips, stock kernel/gov. I'm getting better battery life with it.
My battery has been very bad ever since 3.6. Really thought 4.1 would fix it, but it's actually a little worse. I get 6 hour with light to moderate use. One thing I noticed, when I check my battery and usage, it says screen: 79%, WiFI 9%. But when I click on the graph to get history details, It shows a solid blue line for WiFi, and a solid, but two tone gold for Mobile network signal.
With other screen shots I've seen, wifi is usually a scattered, broken line. As if the wifi is shutting down at times conserving battery. Is there something I'm missing? Or is it supposed to be solid blue? Also, normally in the screen shot, the mobile network line is green, mine is yellow/gold. I am guessing that's just the quality of the network signal, but wanted to verify.
Mine seems like its draining alot quicker.

I haven't had the chance to try out any roms yet but I was curios if anyone has had even better battery life then the stock .181. And what about performance?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
Stock .181 with an hour and a half talk time and about 50 minutes screen on time unplugged from charger Saturday 5/12/12 at 2pm local time sitting about 12-13 percent right now (friday 5/18/12 8 pm local time), Smart Action "battery Extender" reprogrammed to trigger by screen off only and to turn off background sync and DATA (3G/4G radios). Added 2 days to my battery with that reprogramming.
Eclipse 1.3 rom is by far the best and smoothest experience
Everything works...its not ICS
But the smoothness and battery life more than make up for it

I have been running stock and had a smart actions setup that saved me a lot of battery on my OG RAZR.
Ex: From 5:30am to 5pm, my typical working hours, battery gets to 60% remaining on a single charge.
This week i tried an experiment based on a video i saw on poketnow.com's android guy weekly.
My battery is now at 80% when my work day is done.
I usually have 1 hour of talk time, 30 minutes of web browsing, and maybe 15 minutes of mobile gaming throughout the work day.
I also disable LTE since it is not accessible from where i work.
I don't use a task killer because it actually slows down, eats a lot of power on this phone as well as caused the phone to overheat and act buggy. It causes this problem when installed on the phone. It doesn't even have to be running.
I also found it affects every motorola device i tested running 2.3 android.
I hope this helps you out.

Well what was the experiment? or at least a link to the video. Don't just tease people saying you basically doubled your battery life and not tell them how.
I've been running my battery down to 20% each day before I put it on the charger at night.
When I do put it on the charger, I only charge it up to 80 percent.
About an hour or two before I leave each morning, I charge it the rest of the way for work.
He talks about extending the longevity of battery life and says that batteries operate best between 20 and 80 percent.
You can view the article for yourself in the link below.

The basic premise of under charged and over charged are possible, but to "under charge" (drain) your battery to damaging levels you would have to sit there powering the phone back on after it shut itself off and if your using the stock charger (ecomoto) it has circuitry to prevent over charging.
My last phone was an Env Touch I had for over 2 and a half years and still held 80% of its original battery life when I traded in for my RAZR MAXX, I followed the basic rule of run it till it shuts off, charge and unplug within half an hour of charge completing, my mom who got an env touch months after me, and got it stolen and replaced several months after that got a new phones a few months before me because her battery life was so bad, her charging method was to plug it in when she went to bed and unplug when she got up.
so the concept he explains is valid but his percentages are WAY off.
Don't ask me why but if you routinely power off and back on (at least once every 2 weeks) ,you'll get better battery life between charges.

With my env touch it was till it cut off on its own but with my RAZR Maxx its once "circle battery widget" shows about 2-4% battery remaining I will power down and back up then hook it up to charger (I do it every other charging cycle), It will be less glitchy (as those of you who never power off notice the lag build up after about a month) as soon as I started "power cycling" as I like to call it, and I will admit I'm a fairly light user, I went from 3 days to 4 maybe 4 and a half days then with the other smart actions tweaks mentioned above I went 6 DAYS 14 hours and some odd minutes off charger and that was with about an hour and a half talk time a dozen texts and 50+ minutes screen on time.
Pulled of the charger earlier today been off the charger for 19 Hours 8 minutes, sent/recieved 17 texts screen on time 17 minutes with some web browsing, power is at 90% (circle battery widget reading).
That's pretty awesome. Unfortunately black widow rom doesn't have smart actions which really sucks. Idk y u wouldn't include it. But its a pretty awesome rom other than that

I checked out the page for black widow, it looked sweet, but knowing from the time of purchasing my phone we would be getting official ICS one day I have kept my phone bone stock so I wouldn't have any problems updating, can you not simply install the smart actions app https://play.google.com/store/apps/...S5tb3Rvcm9sYS5jb250ZXh0dWFsLnNtYXJ0cnVsZXMiXQ..
or is there something missing from the ROM causing it to not work?

Its gotta be missing something cause when I open the link it says my device isn't compatible with the version. I do know the rom is missing the motion detection feature found in the triggers, so maybe missing that makes it not compatible

I see in your sig how it says "DROID SPYDER", does your phone say that name under Model Number in the about phone menu? if it does that COULD be why it shows as incompatible, there other possibilities but thats what jumps out at me.

Best way to increase longevity is to decrease the number of times you need to charge it.

The reason I asked is because I also have a samsung galaxy player 4.0 and some of the ROMs for it make show as an I9000 instead of the player which adds compatibility with some apps but also breaks some apps.
Anyone else experiencing horrible batter drain? Android OS is taking up 50-60% on average and it just eats it up while idle. I'm thinking about a return, this is my second handset, and with a locked bootloader, im losing faith in a quick solution. Any ideas?
Minimal use and quick setup with two to three app dowloads, and my 40% charged new device was down to zero in 2 hours.
I've noticed some battery quirks so far. My percentage drops 3% simply by locking and unlocking my phone within a few minutes. I've also seen it jump up in percentage once so not sure. Maybe there is something in the OS that isn't optimized that's causing the battery drain and quirks? I dunno. Be great to hear from some other people on this issue.

I've only had one charge on mine but it seems to be going good for me. I made it over a full day with 3+ of screen time.

what percentage does your "android os" show? I'm wondering why my second handset is the same. Did you root yours and remove the bloatware?

Hi give it a couple of charge cycles it will definitely improve.
Yes, I've got the same problem. The OS takes most of the battery. Idle is fine, but with any use battery drops very fast and gets extremely hot, as well.

Keep in mind that these are new phones with NEW BATTERIES. With that being said, you need to "cycle" (charge to 100% then discharge to 0% <repeat 3-5x's) the battery before we judge and jump into conclusions. Just sayin

For the record, I'm also having pretty lousy battery life. OS taking up 55%+. Last night I charged it to 100%, played with it until it was about 93% and then went to bed. Woke up this morning and it was at 65% with zero deep sleep and 80% OS usage.
Something's funky. I like the phone but can't be dealing with this constantly.
A:
EDIT: Turns out the extreme drain was from the radio. I had switched off LTE in the hidden menu and apparently that causes a ton of wakelocks and prevents deep sleep. As soon as I turned LTE back on, deep sleep came back. So that's somewhat encouraging.
I'll have to look at that. I'm getting a day with light use out of my second phone after a few charges, but it gets a little scary when im using it. I'm staying optimistic, my s3 was just phenomenal with battery life after rom kernel additions.
Can you explain how you turned off/on lte and the menu path?
I dont see an apn option other than the stock one (which im assuming is lte enabled). I'd like to see if it makes a difference. Thanks.
you need to enable network menu in the build.prop and a menu will appear where apn is

This is really disappointing. Physically, this phone is fantastic. It looks great and the specs are terrific but it's crippled by absolutely horrid software which I suspect is the reason for the abysmal battery life.
After my first day with the phone yielded less than 10 hours I decided to do a factory reset and set the phone to Eco Mode. That improved things slightly... I managed to get 14 hours but that was with limited usage. In fact, the only significant difference in results was that, in Eco Mode, Android OS shows that it is consuming 80% of the battery vs 53% the previous day.
There is something seriously wrong with these things... the fact that some people are saying that they aren't seeing the problem has me worried that it may be some sort of hardware-related issue.

I would guess those people that aren't seeing this are not looking at the battery stats, I have never seen Android take up this % of battery on any device and I have been using android since the Hero... about a good 15 devices or more ago I have lost count. Come next Thursday I am going to go switch out for something else if the boot loader is not unlocked yet.
