I'm stock unrooted. Up until an hour ago Gmail was working fine, now i can't even open it without crashing and flickering. Anyone else having this issue? It seems to be plaguing everyone commenting in the marketplace.

Try clearing data and cache for gmail. I am stock rooted and currently do not have this problem.
i did twice. I restarted twice. That's so weird. If you read the comments on the Gmail app in the marketplace a lot of people are having this issue. The only thing i did differently was download the new angry birds. I don't understand.

I found another forum where people are experiencing the same thing on different phones. It has to be Gmail updating their system. But i find it odd how it only affects certain users. I can't possibly be the only person with this problem who uses a note.

I am having the same problem on my note.
Yay I'm not crazy. Lol. Life hacker has an Article about it. Its apparently a coding bug that was recently updated. The only work around is using the default email app.

Hi guys, I have the same problem with HTC Desire!
http://groups.google.com/a/googlepr...ries/gmail/android/gmail/Cw1AKdxpj7c/overview
Here's a helpful group, apparently google is aware of the issue and trying to fix it. They're asking for you to post your phone model, software, and time the incident occurred.
It just occured to me this morning. Really weird...
I'll sync it up with the email app from now on.
the problem is still not resolved
No issues with any Google apps (gmail, +, maps, nav, etc.) for me on my note...

i've been receiving emails all day at 30 min interval
i do have angry bird space installed on both phones
working for me again after about an 20 hour outage. This bug was really interesting considering it is supposed to be server-side but the client behaving the way it is.
Finally back up for me.

So I guess I do not kno how svoice works but it doesn't seem to be working for me anymore....
I tried "what's the weather like for today" it correctly shows the question, however takes a long time to process and comes back to say " no weather results, sorry"
Anyone else experiencing issues with svoice...I already tried deleting its data and restarting app no luck. it can do web searches but no weather at all

Haha okay scared me. Thought I broke my s voice. I couldn't get any online results..
Must be something server related for s voice.

Svoice is terrible nonetheless, It delays the home button (disable svoice and see the difference) it laggs way behind siri and has very limited capabilities. It would be adequate if you can use it when the phone is locked and can be used via headset. The major delay on the home button is a deal breaker itself to me
Down? Hasn't it always been "down"? Hahaha.

The first time I tried to get the weather from svoice was about a week ago with no problem. So I assume this is a network problem most likely that will be fixed on their end.

By resetting it, do you mean you went back to unrooted? Or just a stock rom?
By the way I'm running Bean's Custom Stock Rom on VZW and it's not working. I'm guessing it's just a server issue with the activation of so many new GS3's
In advance of the Olympics, Sammy has been doing all sorts of network maintance.
Yesterday all the TV services were down.
Is this only affecting Verizon devices?
Could it be related to the updates surrounding the Siri debacle?
I highly doubt it's from the number of activations.

In my opinion, S Voice isn't terrible but it is behind Siri.
To have the home button respond faster just uncheck the 'launch S Voice by double clicking the home key' in the settings. You can also use S Voice when the phone is locked. Setup Wake up commands and you're set.

I thought it was related to root but I've had these hot reboots even before rooting so it's not just root. Most likely an app.

Will take a while to hunt down the app but anybody else have 'LinkedIn' app installed? It just hot rebooted while launching that app from a fresh restart - quickest hot reboot I've ever seen.
It might not be that app but then I went to the Play Store page and there are tons of 1 star reviews because the last update failed on people's phones - more interestingly the most recent comment is from a GS2 user who says latest update reboots his phone.
I've uninstalled it and I doubt I can be that lucky that it's that app and I find it so quickly but crossing my fingers.
Mine rebooted after I opened the Navigation app.

Well I'm tired of the random hot reboots! Some people say it happened to them before rooting, but I don't believe it happened to me until I rooted and installed CWM touch......so I'm going back to stock to start all over again so I can try to narrow down the issue. I'll report back on my progress as it becomes available.

I had the same problem on my previous Captivate and am having it now on the GS III; no rhyme or reason to the reboots that I can see.
I still have heat problem but I played w/ different settings to see what it is.... I had att s3 which got really really hot... So returned it for Verizon s3. Verizon is better but learned that the data (lte/s3) makes it really hot and battery drain. Also the screen, of course.
If you're rooted then go get Phone info and disable lte. I tried CDMA auto for Verizon and it got much better... But at lowered download speed. I change it when I speed the speed... Doesn't require reboot so it's easy to change.
U can also under clock using setCPU.
I don't need it to be fast normally except when playing games... So just have it at 384min and 1024max... I find this helps allot w/ heat as well... U can try and find your setting that's acceptable speed and heat.
Just sharing my experience here.... So good luck.

Happens here too with the T-Mobile GS3. I think they rushed their fabrication process to deliver a high volume and fubared a few hardwarewise. I've even had it lockup/freeze once when not even in the OS but just in the recovery menu's. But yeah, the usual is a totally random unpredictable hot reboot throwing out my resident programs, homescreen, ect. Starts with the screen being frozen and not accepting input, then a short vibration, then back to homescreen reloading and all regular apps and widges that are supposed to run at boot load again. It's as if there's a micro static short or something. Anyway, I'm sick of problem solving and looking through logcats. Going back in for warranty. This is a dream phone except for this ultra annoying bug that it seems not many people have.

Happened to me once or twice (that I noticed) in the two weeks before I rooted (stock UCALEM), and a few more times after. It's just TouchPiz being pizzy. Maybe someone can catch the logcat, but there's nothing we can do about it (except install a better ROM )
How would anyone be able to diagnose this BS
"OK. My phone is hot. And it randomly reboots".
"Crap - u r out of luck buddy. Go change ur damn phone".
Provide ur phone model, ROM version, apps installed. Check ur battery stats.
As a solution - flash any custom ROM which removes bloatware.
Have had my GS4 for 2 days and loving it. Today though I was opening a web page (Weather Channel) in the stock browser and the GS4 rebooted. Hoping it was just some glitch. Will be carefully monitoring the situation over the next few days. Searched other sites and found others who complained about this issue but no real consensus as the cause or solution (other than getting a replacement, sometimes the new one had the same issue). Anyone here on VZW had this also?

Well it just happened again simply viewing / opening the browser. Everything is stock

Just wondering if anybody has experienced this yet and has had to exchange their phone? If so, was it painless to replace? My wife just got the message on hers and we will have to exchange it. Also, mine has not had the issue yet and was wondering if anyone knows how to tell if the phone is one of the ill-fated, that way both of our phones could be exchanged at once if it is? Supposedly, people will just randomly get the message after a few days of use, so I don't know if there is any way to really tell.

The only time I got that message was on my Galaxy S4, which I was running my own kernel and some hybrid between MDL and MF3 firmware. It really jacked things up when I went to use the slow-motion feature on the camera, including usually just giving me that error message.
From the sounds of it, something is borked badly. If you haven't rooted (sounds like you haven't), I would recommend replacing hers under warranty just to be safe. If you have already rooted, might as well a return-to-stock Odin flash.
If still questioning whether anyone else has had the same issues with their Galaxy S5's .... I haven't seen any other reports of this, but I haven't been searching for it either. I would keep close eyes on the other variants' forums.

Samsung has come out and said its a known issue. They said replacing it should be streamlined, just wondering if it really is.

That's cool that a reboot fixed yours. From everything I read, they said that there is nothing you can do to fix it, and that it is a hardware issue with corrupted memory.

Get this on my Edge 7 which is using an SD card to store photos. It seems to kick when the phone is restarted for any reason. The fix is to force stop the camera app, clear data and cache, and then restart in a special mode which enables you to wipe the data cache. Samsung give instructions for this: "Power off the smartphone, then hold and press the Power, Home and Volume Up buttons at the same time. Let go of all the buttons and wait for the Android system recovery screen to show up. Highlight Wipe Cache partition using Volume down key and press the Power key to select the option." Hopefully, as it's obviously a software bug, Samsung will issue a fix.
