[Q] How to display charging current? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I am trying to compare different chargers for my S3 and can't seem to display the charging current. This thread mentions code *#*#4636#*#*, but that does not work on my AT&T S3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687302
I installed CurrentWidget, but that always displays 0mA.
Does anyone have a method for displaying the charging current on the AT&T S3?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw&hl=en ?

Thanks for the link. I installed the Battery Monitor Widget, but it does not display instantaneous mA. It seems to calculate mA charge or discharge current based on reported battery voltage and the mA numbers are all over the place.
Does Samsung simply not report the current?

[Q] Battery monitor Widget pro

Does this app work on S2?
i had it on my Hd2 and the mA when it was sleeping is between 2-7mA but on s2 it average idling mA is 200+
Battery monitor widget pro doesn't get mA current readings on the sgs2 cause the phone doesn't output current, so battery monitor estimates its own current readings and shows those instead. So they aren't true readings.
It supposedly takes the rate of level drop of battery percent, with the battery size in mAh plugged into settings by the user, and extrapolates mA readings from that. Either way I wouldn't our much faith in the mA numbers.

apps to check charging voltage

hi all,
anyone knows if there is an app or a way to check what is the voltage being pumped into the s2 during charging?
i am not referring to the voltage measured on the battery as i understand that is the voltage from the battery to the phone
tx
With a supported kernel, CurrentWidget will.
Battery Version 1.0.9
That's the name of an application i am using: it shows many numbers about your battery, and makes estimations about how much time left for it to drain, and how much time is left using a specific activity till it's drained.
The application has a standard battery voltage meter, and it changes if you plug/unplug the charger, so maybe you can calculate the difference? Does it work that way?
hi bro
currentwidget can check the voltage being pumped out from wall charger to the phone?

An app that monitors current

Can anyone suggest me an app that can monitor charging current? I would like to know if my charger is really outputting 1000mAH since my s3 has charging issue. It charges slow and sometimes nit at all
Current Widget from appstore.
It will show 999mA when charging or should but it doesn't work for showing the current when in use for some reason i think Samsung removed the file that it reads.
But for your test it will work to see what you're charging at.
I tried current widget but am having my doubt on whether it is really reading it the real charging output or just basing it off on a config file since it still charges very slowly or none at all even when it says 999mAh, I even increased it to 1098 but it still charges really really slow 3 hours and it only charges 10%
Anyone has any other suggestion?
Anyone?

[KENZO][QUESTION] Battery charging rate

I received my RN3SD 3gb yesterday. I was testing the charging rate today because I felt that it was charging slower today than yesterday. I used the program Ampere to check the charging rate. Market link is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...lay&pcampaignid=APPU_1_aYcvV5ziJMG0uATH1YSoBw
Well, in getting around 1000 mAh on an average with a max of 1300 mAh and lowest of 230 mAh.
I read somewhere that the charging rate should be around 1900 mAh. I would appreciate if I got feedback as to what the normal charging rate is for you guys (ideally, checked in the same app). And please let me know if I should be using a different app. Thanks.
info:
Unrooted ROM MIUI Global 7.2.2.0
Yes u r right, i m getting 1900 mah with 16 gb model ,ampere app is ok. Maybe try factory reset
Ampere showing 1.9k mA to 2k mA here.try check your cable and charger.
How that matter and what doest it affect ? Its about charging time or battery life ?
I'm gettgin 1550mAh
What was the battery percentage when you opened Ampere? When it's getting up to like 90 % the current goes down.

When I opened Ampere the reading always varies. Sometimes is 490 sometimes 1150, the highest I've got is 1650. The charging cable and the charger are brand new. Even tried charging from a USB power bank, got about 500mah. What can be the reason for this slow charging. These are all values foe when charge is less than 90%. What can be the reason?
Depends on what powerbank you have. Most don't support high charging rates, (although there are some more powerful ones from xiaomi and lenovo on the low end market).
On another note,
I am wondering about the maximum Voltage and Amp we can charge with safely? i tried 3 differennt ones; 5v 0.3A, 5v 1.2A and 5.2V 2A. All seem to work fine, with the last one i got about 10% per 10 min with a value of around 2100 Mahor higher , but i am not sure if this is a safe way to charge the device?
Does anyone know what is the maximum safe charging value?

There are regulators inside the phone that step down the voltage to charge the battery, i think it's a 4.35v cell but the phone will regulate the charge. So long as the USB voltage is within spec it's fine, many chargers have 5.1 or 5.2 volts to combat voltage drop with higher current over long leads or leads with small conductors.
mine about 1.900 mA

Quick charge not working on 9.6.25?

Guys recently i just noticed my device charging slower tham usual with the stock charger as well as other qc 3 certified devices and it also dsnt show the quick charge logo in the notification drawer!!!
Iam in 9.6.25 global rom can any body confirm if its a rom issue or my specific issue

download amps app and check current rating feed to your phone, fast charge > 2500 mA, if lower, try change your charger.

After the update mine also shows 3hr's to charge and slowly charging. I brought the phone 10 days back and updated to this 9.6.25 a week and facing this problem.
Have no problem at all with Poco f1 Miui 9.6.25. Charging time is around 1hr 45 to 2 hrs if not mistaken.

Ive already tried it it shows almost 1450 ma
And ive tried with different cable ... different charger and even qc3 power bank no luck so far could it be a hardware issue in my phone?

Try to charge below 50% from current battery level.my stock charger rating 5V 2.5A..can get around 2.2A reading from app.
Its starts slower then it gets faster , from 10% to 100 % in under 2h , so its working properly.

Don't worry its just a software issue I just flashed the miui 10 beta Rom and now everything is fine it shows the QC logo also
Me too facing the issue. In the screenshot, charging at 18% and showing 920 mAh
Me too facing the same issue and i am on Miui 9.6.25 as well.
I just had a chance to check it, as I recently upgraded to 9.6.25. Well, no changes for me - there is QC icon next to the battery and Ampere shows current reaching 2900 mA.

You guys don't use the search function on the thread and just keep on making new threads about the same issue.
It has been well documented now that the charging slows due to thermal throttling. The hotter the phone the slower the charging. If anyone wants to test this, charge your phone for 5 mins before an air conditioner and measure the charging speed using the app called 'Amps'.
You should see the charging speed at around 2700-2800mah provided your phone temperature is quite low.
Otherwise, take a chilled watter bottle from your fridge and pour it generously on a towel. Now place your phone on that towel and charge you phone. As soon as the temperature starts falling to around 32-34 degree celsius, the charging speed will increase.
This is built in safety feature. The charging slows when the battery temperature is around 36-37 degree celsius as per my observations.
Cool you battery to around 30 degrees using any method you can and then check the charging speed.
Not your charger, not your cable...its mostly the charging algorithm with built in thermal thresholds which is at play here.
DO TELL ME YOUR TEST RESULTS.
I just found this thread - I have similar problem but it's rather not connected with temperature.
After one of software updates I discovered that quick charge is not working. Maybe it wasn't connected with update but this is how I see this.
I was waiting for software updates and hoping that they will fix my problem but nothing was changing.
Recently I decided that maybe factory reset will help, but unfortunately no.
After this reset I was checking many chargers and it appeared that with laptop charger (with USB C output) quick charge works! I was checking parameters in application 'ampere' and there is information that this charger is AC, and rest is USB. So it looks like QC works but....
Please help, how can I make quick charge works again via standard quick charge charger.

Iam in 11.0.5.0 global rom can any body confirm if its a rom issue or my specific issue
I want to clarify that my Poco on fully stock 11.05 charges as fast as any previous version of MIUI.
I take care of my battery. Charge till 80 and never let or go below 20.
If you can maintain the variables, and it still charges slow then you have issues with battery IC or the battery itself.
The highest I got without ceiling fan and without ac is 1590 mA. Maybe I got higher other times but I installed the app just for this post.
Don't rely on software reporting.
Do you have a multimeter?
Ambient temperature plays a HUGE role when it comes to battery, even if it's 1 degree more or less.
