[Q] Battery life - Motorola Photon 4G

What is the opinion on the best kernal to run for absolute best battery life? I've run Rocko and Olegfusion which I believe are both based on Jokers 1.3. I have dialed back to 1.0 ghz and use ZDbox to kill apps on screen lock. I'm not a gamer so I guess raw CPU speed isn't the top priority. The functions that are used the most are email (Kaiten), web browsing (mostly Opera mini), camera (Camera Zoom FX) and GPS (Back Country Navigator, Sports Tracker and mapping). I sometimes use Sling Player which is guaranteed to eat battery. For a ROM I'm running Peetr's Hibrid. I've tried some of the power saving apps with mixed results and am currently running Green Power. Thoughts from more experienced users than I would be gratefully appreciated.
BTW, my son has the EVO 4G LTE and I ran Quantum and Antutu on both phones and while the EVO obviously benchmarked faster (3000/5100 Quantum and 6303/7058 Antutu) (the Photon was at 1.3 at the time), in my humble opinion, my Mopho did not get blown out of the water and I'm re-evaluating my desire to use my last premier upgrade by year end. I'm thinking that I'll wait for LTE and see what hardware is available in a year. If I need CPU horsepower, SetCPU will let me go back to 1.3.

I'm on the 2.3.5 hybrid, with the stock kernel, and im getting great battery life. Right now at 19% with 3 hours 30 minutes of screen time so far, off the charger for 13 hours. Also I play music for about an hour to and from work. Also I play music at the gym for about 2 hours. So around 4 hours of music. Out of that screen time I also watched YouTube videos for like 35 minutes. A little bit of gaming to. Facebook and weather syncing every hour too. Sorry for the scattered info haha just trying to give you a good idea of what I did to get those results.
It's worth noting though that my battery is brand new.

[Q] Whats the best ROM for battery life?

Just wondering because right now I'm using GSB v2.6 and I'm getting max 6 hours of battery life through normal use like checking email, sms, casual browsing, and listening to music.

Have you tried re-calibrating your battery? Made a huge difference for me; it's good to do especially with a lot of ROM flashing, but even with just one it can throw your battery calculations off.
FYI follow the instructions to the letter, otherwise you might as well not do it at all IMHO.
I had the same issue using GSB 2.X. Switched to OMGB 1.1.1 and i now get 15 hours with moderate usage and no tweaks.

I've gotten over 30 hours before with GSB, immediately after a recalibration.
Your best bet for battery life is setcpu settings. As long as you're using froyo and gingerbread you'll get a boost.
I suggest Tazz as his ROM's have always worked for me. My setcpu sleep profile is:
min 19mhz
max: 480mhz
governer: smartass
and in advanced settings I have:
polling interval: default
Whatever the next one is: 98
Ignore smart or hwatever the third one is: 1
bias: 4
edit: With this I can get a good day or two of moderate use.
I found on GSB that that 19mhz is too low and the phone does not always wake from sleep. I followed workshed's suggestion of min 480 mhz with max 710 using CM7's CPU settings and all worked very well...that is until 2.0 when battery life went to hell. I recalibrated but i think the problem was my exchange mail app.
Oh, and with smartass you shouldn't have to set sleep profiles. Supposedly it's "smart" enough to figure that out
You can also try collins battery tweak, I use it on tazz gingerbread and it works awesome my phone used to die pretty fast before I tried it and now that I put it back on my phone I am very glad I did.
Im running GSB 2.8 but for me, all seems to be going well.
In one day, off a single charge, I've gone 12-14 hours at a time!
Make sure you always charge correctly, and don't abuse the phone's battery all the time!
Been trying out various ROMs and lately, I've settled on FroShedYo's Final V11 with CM6.1 as my everyday workhorse, stability over speed, and with a bit of battery calibration - getting an average of easily 20 to 30 hours off a full charge on OEM 1500 maH battery originally for the HTC Ozone (so it's about 15% higher capacity than stock's 1300 maH, which I keep as a spare/backup.)
With a bit of tweaking on CPU clocking (Ondemand), turning off vibrate & alert sounds/LED's, and email checks every 60 minutes (1 account only + Gmail pushed) and minimal widgets open, etc. - I can leave the house at the beginning of a long day, go about daily business, voice calls, check email checks, quick news & weather update, etc. and still have 25% to 50% battery life after an extended 12 to 15 hours day on the move, depending on how the device is used. I get a poor 3G signal at the house flipping to 1X often & back, and wifi OFF on the road (BlueTooth ON for driving but no Maps/NAV (ON at home.) In short, plenty of variables on how the battery is getting drained - in standby mode, clock speed is lowered so I could still be over 90 to 95% battery after 2 years but it will slide downward with active usage. After wiping/flashing & reinstalling all the APPS & fine-tuning the settings, I do a NAND backup and then do the battery calibration - and after 1 full cycle, I've been consistently getting these standby & usage time - which I can live with (C2C flashed and extra goodies on a 16GB SD card.) Yesterday, it was showing over 50% after 15 hours of light/moderate usage.
I've tried the latest nearly finalized GSB/GB Roms & variants, they are faster & fancier, but FC's, GPS issues & other minor bugs plus "not as good" battery life had pushed it back to 2.2 OS on the Eris. OMGB 1.1.1.1 and the Condemned CM7 just out this week are pretty cool - but battery life really slide quickly - unlikely to see more than 10 to 15 hours of usage out of a standard/non-extended battery.
The other one that I like is the Nonsensikal 2.2.1 ROM, troublefree, stable & reliable - the edge on battery yielding to FroShedYo's version ( keep that on another 8GB card along with the newest GB releases for "playing")
Otherwise, the xtrSENSES 5.x and xtrROM 5.x are fine as well for everyday use - performance & battery life-wise over the latest stock 2.1 ROM.
Those are my two cents for what it's worth, great work being done here and it's giving new life to the Eris, not quite EOL for some of us - played with the TB in the store, nice big screen & fast, but I'm not about to wear a "brick" phone going out on the job with an extended/bulky battery just for bragging about 4G/LTE. Mobile devices have come a long way, I still got my original analog MicroTac XLT with a 2200 maH tipping the scale at 10 oz in my bottom storage drawer.
On the sideline for a "polished" GB/GSB ROM with the bugs resolved and better battery life, and I'm off to flashing it on my spare SD to test it out. for the "adoption" usage.

SGS II Vs. myTouch 4G Slide?

I'm a T-Mobile US suscriber and after what feels like ages I'm finally due for a free upgrade on my myTouch 3G. The new offerings from T-Mo aren't really all that great. I already own a Sensation and I'm not terribly fond of it, not to say I don't like HTC phones, as I've been to hell and back with my G2 and myTouch 4G. The Samsung Galaxy S II and the myTouch 4G Slide are the two currently best available phones. Premium hardware on both. Keyboard isn't that much of an issue as I have phones with and without. Both have GB for now with plans for both to upgrade to ICS soon. What's the custom ROM development look like, though I don't think it will be too much of a concern on this phone, curious in particular about the SGS II because of the whole CIQ thing, I'm troubled to say the least by it. I want user opinions, feedback, or stories, preferably from people who've had the phone, or if there are any must see reviews those work too.

I own the SGS 2 which I moved to from the Nexus S. It's a great phone which surpassed my expectations - I was worried about the custom ROM having only owned "vanilla" nexus devices. The touchwiz ROM is actually quite nice and has some helpful features such as putting settings controls in the notification pull down menu. I did try a few other ROMs (villain) but found myself going back to stock.
The phone itself has a great screen and is really thin and light. The battery also lasts a solid day with quite a bit of use. I'd definitely recommend it.

Could you elaborate a bit more? I know I wont be stressing the phone anywhere near what I do to my G2 or MT4G, but I'd imagine that I'd be texting heavily, occasional game use (i.e. Uno, Angry Birds), occasional Facebook use, and possibly as a default media player on occasion. Slight OC at most for a snappy feel.
For Comparision: I pull about 16-19 hours out of my G2. My G2 is OC-ed to 1.5GHz On Demand, GO Launcher EX (7 screens, widgets on all 7), daily texting in excess of 500 messages, email checking, moderate Facebook checking, browsing XDA, as well as some media and gaming use (Gameboid)
MT4G: Sees about 5-7 hours of life. OC-ed to 1.8GHz On Demand. Heavy texting usage, heavy media usage, a lot of web searching, as well as moderate forum browsing on the ROMs I follow, dosn't get to sleep for awhile as I like to show off the phone a lot.

My normal usage pattern consists of playing games for probably 45mins-1hour a day (admittedly these are not processor intensive games). I send about 10 texts a day and maybe talk for 10-15 minutes which is not much. Most of the use is web browsing and news reader apps. I have long commutes so I probably end up browsing for a few hours each day. If you add all that up it does amount to quite a bit of use. By the days end I have about 15% battery left, once it falls below 10% though it seems to fade fast. Charging seems really quick too if you connect it to the mains (not usb).

Another Battery life thread...

I've been going around reading these forums for a while and im honestly trying to find out if its just my Rezound that is broken or what but...
Is it normal for my rezound to be at 20% Battery life after 7 hours and 37 Minutes. Screen on time = 31 minutes. Stock Battery on 4g.
What gives? This is ridiculous... i feel like i barely use my phone and the battery is just draining and draining, and its like this with whatever GB rom i use, even a clean one with NO apps installed. I Might get an extra hour out of it if i have auto sync off completely. Its also worth mentioning that my phone can get pretty toasty, around 112f at times when being used.
I feel like i need to use my extended battery to get what other people seem to be getting on the stock battery.
Is my rezound which i purchased on ebay defective?
Thats not normal for sure. I would download better battery stats and check your partial wake locks. Also 4g drains battery alot, especially if your in a spotty area with low signal. I use 3g unless I absolutely need 4g. (Youtube, downloading, etc.) From what you've described it sounds like something is keeping your device from sleeping. With that type of screen on time you should have much more battery left.

that not normal. i get like 10hrs on bamf evita with 3hr almost 4hr of screen time with some 4g

Would it be too much to ask for people to report the following?
ROM? If on one or stock
Any overclocking or undervolting etc?
Screen on time?
Apps dominantly used on phone during screen on time?
Are you on 4G, 3G or Wifi?
What do you have set to sync? Weather, Gmail, Facebook etc.
I am on RezRom 3.3
I have Screen on in Voltage Control Set to 1.5 GHtz Max and 129 Min
I have screen off set to 129 Min and 129 Max
Right now I am at 45% with 1 Hr 15 minutes screen on time
I have been using Twitter, Facebook, XDA and playing Drop7
I have been on 4G all day.
I have 2 Gmail accounts one personal and one work, only thing set to sync on those is Mail, Contacts and Calendar.
4g can kill your battery... try turning it off sometimes...
Dude use titanium backup super manager and es file to remove stuff u don't need
There guide who've API safe to remove
I get 15h with 3h use
I have done everything stated in this thread, including using titanium backup to freeze or remove un needed applications.
Cleanrom GBE 1.7.5 & Ineffabilis v1.4
No Overclocking
35 - 50 minutes
messaging, 5 minutes of playing music, 5 minutes or less phone calls, random checking time
4g When in a 4g area. wifi in most others
I have experienced this poor battery life with sync completely off and i manually sync it once or twice a day

I had very similar battery life until I ran the ruu leak. It was a difficult decision but I decided that my battery life was so crappy that it was worth the risk installing the leak. If it didn't work I was going to return the phone. Well not only did it increase my battery life hardcore. But it also made my temps decrease as well. Prior I was hitting 115 with little to no effort. And after using clean rom Dev edition and the provided kernal I usually never get above 109 even under heavy load. It is worth noting that I have 4g disabled because in my area I usually get about 1.5 MB down and that's plenty for me. But with around 2 hours 15 min screen on time and 16 hours 43 min up, on the extended battery I have 49% battery left.
Again keep in mind that prior to the leak mine was literally as bad as yours in both heat and batt life.

here is my battery stats on stock rooted gb with bloatware removed, and the leak ics ruu radios installed. I PLAYED MUSIC ON BEATS AUDIO ALL DAY! it says music 10% but i swear cause i have it on all day for work thats why i bought this phone. and it just hit yellow i just got off work. i called alot to on breaks and what not. stock gb kernal is the shizz! ics sucks big time. my opinion. just sayin
It's the 4G that is causing poor battery life on all 4G capable phones. It's the network, not the phones. I think the Rezound compounds the issue with the sweet screen. I keep the brightness on low.
More info about why the current 4G implementation is killing our batteries:
http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/110711-what-is-lte/5
I've found the battery life on my Rezound with the stock battery to be good as long as I disable 4G LTE. I'll only enable it when I really need it. Wish there was a widget to toggle it.
Just an update for you guys... Im now running Stock Rooted from Scott's site and I seem to be getting acceptable battery life... Its possible i have a very picky Rezound when it comes to roms and kernels? Bah..

literally six hour battery life

On the normal cyanogen releases and the nightlys I'm getting six hour battery life.
In WebOS I have fantastic battery life but I prefer Android.
I put HBOOT and whatever you require for Android a long time ago so is it possible I'm just not updated?
I really want better battery life, I'm thinking maybe there's a kernel or hboot or recovery I could flash that might help or something, because I love android but just can't stand charging in the middle of the day with mild use.

Haha, wish I could get 6 hours out of mine... I have it OC'ed to 1.78Ghz, both cores forced online, performance governor, and screen brightness to 100%... it dies in about 2hrs.
Consider yourself lucky you are not bothered by lag or dark screens as much as I am...
Love my TouchPad, but it I always keep it plugged in if my hands are not on it at that moment.
My daughter gets pretty good battery life out of mine watching Netflix or movies in VLC. I know I'm using an older version but don't recall which off the top of my head.
I know I've gone in there on multiple occasions and she'll have fallen asleep while Netflix is constantly streaming new episodes. Easily 8 hours later with still 1/4 charge. It sits on the stand charger when not in use.

if you customize the settings you can easily get more battery life than you could in webos, simply because you can change settings in a nice custom android rom version that you cant change in webos. everything from the wireless scan interval, wireless tx power using iwconfig, tons more processor power options, you can setup power profiles in most every overclocking app, tell the device how much power to use and when to use it. youre just gonna have to start learning how things work in android.
I am averaging 17-18 hours between charges using CM9 (August 19).

You didn't mention what ROM you are using or overclocks or usage?
Are you saying you, with constant continuous use, you get 6 hours? Or do you mean 6 hours between need a charge, idle & periods of use?
If it's the first, then that is not bad for constant usage, consider:

I pretty much get the whole day on mine... 6am to about 10 or 11 pm and usually have 10 to 15% left..
Facebook notifications set at every 30 minutes
Tapatalk notifications coming in 30 minutes
Plume notifications every 15 minutes
Gmail syncing everything
Hotmail syncing everything
Google+ syncing and running
Flipboard running
GReader Pro syncing every 30 minutes
SetCPU set to 192 low and 1782 high, ondemand and cfq set
Several games for kids my daughter uses and at least 2 or 3 hours of Netflix for her watching her stuff.
My TP is in my hands the vast majority of the day. Take it off the Touchstone when I wake up and don't set it back til I go to sleep
Sooo if your only getting six hours of use I would recommend doing a COMPLETE wipe of webOS and Android to rule out software and also get the Touchstone charger if you don't have one... if that doesn't do it then I'd say you have a failing battery or an internal charging issue
And yes I can watch 6 hours of movies in a day... usually more like almost 9 if I knock down SetCPU to not go over 972

[Q] Best JB ROM for longest battery life?

Hello
I'm sorry if this has been already asked before but I couldn't find it anywhere. What would you guys recommend as the best Jelly Bean ROM that will give me the longest battery life? I love the JB ROM that I'm using right now, but unfortunately it has got a horrible battery life. There are times where I will go through 3 full batteries in one day. I keep my screen brightness on auto and I don't really play games on my phone but I am a heavy user. I really value applications that use background data such as Gmail and Facebook and others so turning auto syncing is out of the question for me. I also use bluetooth a lot and stream pandora to my car radio for at least 1.5 hours a day. I'm looking for a ROM that can definitely get me through the day on one battery. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I don't think any rom will ever get the battery life you are asking for. With that kind of use, an extended battery is a must. Our phones (Hardware wise) will not do it.

That's not going to happen... Why wouldn't you plug it in when you're using it in the car?
Its not going to happen. You have to take people battery screenshots with a grain of salt. They have WiFi on and basically don't touch their phone. They have nothing syncing. I use neo infected ROM and while at work I mostly only use it to do fb texting and surf xda. I can have 40% battery left after about 12. During that time the usage is 2 10 min breaks and 40 min lunch. With maybe checking a few times an hr to see if the wife has texted me. So that's not real good life as that's light usage.
Like I have told people you have to choose what's more important battery life or using your phone like its was intended to be used.
This is just like a truck forum when people posts how can I get better gas mileage out of my v8. There's no such thing. I tell them want great gas mileage then buy a 4 banger econo box. Same goes for this Want great battery life get a dumb phone. Gotta pay to play.

I'm on Infected 2.6 and I'm surprised at how good the battery life has been. At least, relative to other versions or ROMs. I unplugged it at midnight 2 nights ago and with light usage like you describe, I'm at 19% right now. 4G on, wi-fi off, background sync of 2 gmail accounts, Evernote and Facebook, light txting and about 2-3 phone calls.
I agree with your idea of using the phone like it's intended to be used though. If I get a full day on a charge, I'm happy.
2.7 is out now.

Yeah, get an extended battery. lol. This phone is a battery pacman regardless what ROM or what version of Android you are using. I never use Auto brightness. I just keep it down super low indoors then if I really need it I turn it up a bit outside. My phone stays on the chargers inside and out most of the time. No extended battery will last you all day at heavy use......
