Hey guys! Ive been browsing this forum as well as the internet to get to know about ICS. There are many ways to have it on this handset. May I ask what is tue easiest way of having ICS on a LT26i? Do I necessarily have to unlock the bootloader? Can't I do it wwithout rooting? Please help me. I'm not that much of a tech person. So the answers for the questions above will be very helpful to me. Plus, is there a stable version of ICS for LT26i? Thanks in advance!!
flash it with flashtool 8.6. No root required, just the ftf found in the rooms compilation thread.
Can I use the bootloader unlocker offered by the sony site?

Method 2c is what you are looking for. By the way, this is a sticky in the general forum.
1. Rooting is not firmware dependent, the method to root is almost the same across firmware
2. Installing games does not require rooting.
Thank and do you think this video here is besically the same things that ill be doing?

Hi,
I'm fairly new with this phone, and I had rooted it without unlocking the bootloader. (downgrade to GB, root, then upgrade to ICS)
I just found out that a newer version of ICS is released the other day and was wondering that if there is anyway I can update my device while keeping the root ? Say, if I use flashtool to flash the new version, will I lose the root? Or should I use the pc companion software? Or cwm recovery?
I am a total noob here, and I have no idea what I'm doing... Kind of want to figure everything out before I accidentally bricked my phone.
you could try the thread about it on the development section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857736
or you can try this:

And btw, use the search button first, or at least read the thread titles in the first page ¬¬
Thanks !!
I must have phrased the keywords wrong or something last night since neither of the posts you provided was in the search result.
Thanks for sharing the posts though. I had just successfully upgraded my phone with PCC while preserving the root !!
Hello,
I have a Motorolla Atrix 4G purchased from Bell. The phone was updated to Gingerbread 2.3.6 already.
I have rooted the phone following this guide http://androidadvices.com/root-motorola-atrix-4g-45141-gingerbread-236-firmware/
Using the moto-fastboot files from here http://www.android-advice.com/file-downloads.php?filename=Atrix_Root_Files
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader so I can ultimately install CM7, but my understanding from this forum sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160408 is that I can't do this without bricking the phone, since I had already done the official gingerbread update.
So if I'm correct, I need to follow this guide... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
Except that guide and the warning sticky are referring to 2.3.4, not 2.3.6...
Could someone please lend me some knowledgeable input and/or guidance on this? Greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time.
Solved my own question. Phone is unlocked and functioning.
To anyone else who might be helped by this, that guide I posted DOES work for 2.3.6 on Bell... Even says so approx. 13 pages into the discussion (took me awhile to find it).
Just like to thank this community for existing, and all the effort and time you guys spend to not only develop, but to help others by publishing these great resources.
Hello everyone.
I need new mobile phone.
I don't want to spend too much money but I'd like to have JB on it or ICS so Galaxy Nexus etc. is not an option.
Is there any mid-end phone you could recommend that is possible to root and install JB on it ?
And which one is the easiest to root and install custom software ?
Thanks for help in advance !
You should ask that question here.
Oh sorry.
Could someone please close that thread ?
Thanks
